♛”What specifically blankens your stare, mon ami? Is it the incredible story that was woven so artfully by yours truly, the rollercoaster of anxiety and relief that coursed through you vicariously as I yet againprevailed in the face of certain doom?” Lestat leaned back in his chair, smiling triumphantly.
“Or were you disappointed in the coven as a whole for its failure on an individual basis to support me in my hour of need? That my One True Pairing of a lover completely left me to my own devices despite the fact that he himself would have been long dead by that time if I hadn’t fallen so hopelessly in love with him???”
Sure, I may not like all of it, but honestly I love all of Anne rices work and could not , with conviction, tell someone not to read it.
So all of you peeps who are afraid to read it or put off because of the fandoms feelings in the book, just ignore all that and work to craft an opinion of your own on the book by bravely reading it yourself.

TL;DR WARNING.
Before I launch into this, the title itself felt like a joke: "Oh gdi Lestat you are so obsessed with your stupid nickname, you hamburger-brained moron" but really he did not coin that phrase, and in fact he resisted it for most of the book. So let’s not blame Lestat for that bit. In fact, it is meant to follow Queen of the Damned in a very big plot point kinda way, and so the title makes perfect sense once you know that plot point.
I finally finished it after picking it up, setting it down, and repeating that procedure a number of times. There were sections that made me lose total interest for weeks. Then I’d grumble and trudge through. I knew some spoilers (bc I had asked for them!), just plot points, but I wanted to experience it as it deserved to be experienced. Even the parts that made me invent a wholly new WTF facial expression. But I laughed more than cried of second-hand embarrassment at those scenes.
I finally closed that book with the feeling that I opened it with: cautious optimism, and glad for having given it the chance. It’s revived our fandom for sure. I might even reread it soon. Is any of it really canon? Maybe. Not sure. I think some good RP and fanfic will revise some of it, fill in the missing parts, and glue it all together.
Oh, you want more? Well I’ll give you more…
Let me just say that there are several canon/fanon-worthy scenes in this book, that are not to be missed. There’s a lot of good character work with several of the characters (not ALL of them, but hey, it’s something).
There’s an intensity to the last 25% that’s worth the anguish of the parts that lost my interest. You have to slog through to get to that, though. It makes it more worthwhile, a creeping sort of anxiety in the story until that last 25% sweet spot.
There’s also a lot of good exploration of the PTSD in Lestat himself. There are times when it really feels like the Lestat from TVL or even IWTV! His brutality is still there. His gentleness is different now, worn sort of thin by too many people abusing it (*cough cough* Mona! Though she was in the right in several instances back in Blackwood Farm), but still there.
There’s a great, short, powerplay with David. There’s some great mother & son bonding (lol) with Gabrielle. Louis has a sort of change of heart. Armand is so chill you might think he’s being sarcastic. New characters are brought in (this includes old ones that we thought were long gone and are now brought back and dusted off), and lined up, they’ll surely be more developed and have roles in the next installment.
The entire vampire tribe has turned a new corner at the end.
I cannot say it is impossible as for I have never tried to do such a thing – and I find it hard to believe one would as I cannot see a purpose on doing so. However, I personally find highly unlikely for such an attempt to be successful.
♛ Hope you don’t mind my adding to this, Marius. Our physiology has always intrigued me, too much to be tactful and pass up a chance to discuss it *winks*
Technically Louis and I both made our daughter together. In that sense, one can be made by more than one sire. It just usually happens that it’s a single one of us claiming a single mortal to bring over for love, or on orders of a higher ranking member, or as an heir (in my case)…
It’s not an exact science, it can go horridly wrong even if performed correctly. My darling Nicolas seemed, at first, to have been committed to a fate worse than death. I would not recommend the further complication of two (or more) makers.
However… in my latest novel…
ooc; So I finally finished Prince Lestat!!! Took me awhile. ANYWAY.
I won’t spoil anything here, but let’s just say that the idea of 2 makers at the same time is addressed. Sort of. It’s not directly answered but it’s addressed.
I think it could be done. Why not? Lestat has admitted that Marius’ multiple transfer procedure is a better one than Lestat’s usual method of blood taken from the mortal and transferred back only once. The fledgling is a vessel for blood that must be emptied and replenished a few times.
I mean this in the kindest way… LOUIS IS A BAD ASS MOTHERFUCKER OK so people need to let go of this singular-mopey-tortured-soul-Louis thing!
Your headcanon may vary of course, but this is my interpretation…
I still haven’t finished Prince Lestat but I know some of the spoilers. I won’t share them here except to say that I understand Louis gets a good chapter to himself. He’s in Prince Lestat and he does make the impression of someone who is comfortable in his own skin and generous in his interactions with others, so far as I’ve read.
Aside from that, Louis shook off his mortal coil as early as in IWTV. When still but a fledgling, he stood up to Lestat during the Freneire incident, “And so I physically grappled with Lestat. I held him… I held him in the dark, where he spit at me and cursed at me…” Lestat sounds like an angry cat. That must have been fun. NOT.
He helped Claudia escape from Lestat. He burned down the Theatre des Vampires in revenge for Claudia. Etc.
In my favorite fanfic and RP threads, Louis is a BAMF. He doesn’t let anyone step on his toes, and he enjoys time to himself, but he’s not merely a hermit the sum of his library. He’s protective and nurturing of Lestat (and others) in physical AND emotional ways, which are reciprocated in kind.
Louis is at odds with everything. He always has been. Even in his darkest, saddest moments, there was the little flame of his ego and will to survive. It’s one of his most endearing qualities.
I think it’s this ego and indomitable nature that draw Lestat – and others – back to him again and again. Also, Louis is very pretty ❤
Y’know I have to give you some credit for choosing Santiago bc he does not get nearly enough attention. Yes he’s a terrible, awful, monster, but he was a great character, a fantastic actor, a cruel antagonist… it takes some effort to be that evil!
I suspect and there is a secret fanfic that supports this theory that Santiago considered himself 2nd-in-command and maybe more to Armand, and he felt himself very usurped when Louis came into the picture, and had it in for Louis from the first moment Armand made heart-eyes at Louis.
MY favorite character of IWTV… that’s tough. In terms of the movie I think all of the actors (even Antonio!!!) did a fantastic job with their roles. I’d go with Claudia only because she was just the perfect mix of sweetness and icy screamy-ness and just had Louis wrapped around her little finger.
In book!IWTV it’s Lestat who’s my fave… How can you not love him with this combination (and more!) of character traits: Charismatic, mixing silly with sinister, mysteriously hinting at a rich and traumatic backstory (which we definitely got later), and of course, lastly, intensely handsome.
lunchiemunchies: #INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE #IS HE WEARING RED VELVET….REMINDS ME OF SOMEONE ELSE…
Yes, he IS wearing RED VELVET… Claudia picks out his whole wardrobe, and occasionally she likes to dress him as fabulously as Lestat, without saying so, bc she misses Papa Jaune ❤
Are you the same Anon who asked me this a month ago? Why ask me when there are perfectly wonderful Lestat RPers who have full writeups about him, as well? I’ve listed them again at the end of this post.
I have alot of headcanons, and really, these are the seeds for fic/RPs. Headcanons come from canon, author interviews, and fanfic/RP. When they come from fanfic/RP, it’s ideas that fans have developed to answer the gaps left in canon, so they’re kind of preciously guarded until they are written into fic and released that way.
Go to my headcanon accepted tag for headcanons of others that I’ve agreed with ;] but gdi you twisted my arm, so here’s a little peek into my own headcanons… in general strokes. I wouldn’t say favorites. Just ideas that are floating around, begging to be written as fic. They apply to book!Lestat more than movie!Lestat, I guess.
Lestat’s birthday is November 7. This is undisputed. He always acts like he couldn’t care less, but if nothing happens that night, he’s wildly offended and can sulk for weeks or more afterwards. So Louis has calendar reminders far in advance so he can arrange an appropriately decadent outing/event/gift of some kind.
What do you get the man who has everything and can do anything? Experiences. Everyone in Lestat’s inner circle try to set aside the norm in order to try to give him a unique thrill for his birthday. More often than not they just decide to give him what he wants in the bedroom 😉
Lestat knows the date that he was turned and does not celebrate it, but spends it in service to others somehow; being kept busy for that entire night is especially important. He does not like to be in France on that night.
Lestat will lapse into paralysis when overcome with emotion, and Louis is the best at drawing him back out of it, with gentle touches and soothing words, or a little blood-dipped kiss, but even he usually just has to wait until Lestat resurfaces on his own. Sometimes Lestat is not himself if he’s “woken up” from it and it’s jarring to watch.
Lestat is a believer in Retail Therapy and has bought things immediately after or during an argument (even something as simple as a pair of shades at a gas station) in order to regain control of his emotions. It’s partly because he enjoys the whole exchange he has with the retail person.
Lestat had time to know his little sister, and mourned her loss, but didn’t write about it, ever, because it was too painful. She died young, she didn’t have enough hand-eye coordination developed yet to learn to hunt with him, but he wanted that for her so badly, and Gabrielle would have allowed it.
Lestat has a recent foot fetish. About his own feet. He can spend hours in a CVS picking out nail colors and he paints his toenails himself. He has 3 shoeboxes full of colors and glitters. Louis dislikes the smell, so Lestat will do it in the courtyard and wait until dry before showing off his artwork.
Lestat used to paint Claudia’s little fingernails. He did all sorts of girly activities with her, since it was difficult to find any children her age to befriend her.
This is funny bc outwardly he acts like this is some kind of achievement. Like, “if you’re going to think I’m a little shit I WILL BE THE KING SHIT OF SHIT MOUNTAIN IN YOUR FACE ALL NIGHT LONG.” The sad side of it is that he does think he’s a shit alot of the time, and he spends enormous amounts of time and energy trying to fix things/relationships w/ others. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.
