Merrick (2000 – 2001) By Anne Rice.
I think this one of Anne’s best works. The pace of the novel is relentless and gracefully written. For me this novel is about David, Louis and Merrick’s spiral into a world of moral decline while they are haunted by their respective pasts.
David’s confessional work, the reader is a voyeur in this tale:
A rare glimpse into Louis’ desperation, inner torment, lack of self control and poor judgement. An autobiographical piece for David within the context of the Talamasca, relationship with Merrick, his journey both into the savage unknown and his personal responsibility for those around him. This novel is his ultimate admission of shame and guilt; past and present.
The photos above represent significant parts of the novel:

The Vampire Chronicles Aesthetic: Gabrielle De Lioncourt
“We write our own fairy tales, my love,” I said, “The lesson in this is that nothing can destroy what you are now. Every wound will heal. You are a goddess.”
“And the goddess thirsts.” She said.
“What are you waiting for, the church to pronounce it a miracle?”

The Vampire Chronicles List : Prince Lestat – #8
“And how could I ever explain how I had reached this moment, I who had been Born to Darkness of rape, and sought for redemption in a borrowed mortal body, and followed spirits yet unexplained to realms of inexplicable Heaven and nightmarish Hell, only to fall back again to the brutal Earth, broken, and battered, and defeated? How to explain why this, this alone, was the bold and terrifying alliance that would give me the passion to travel the road of the centuries, of the millennia, of the aeons of uncharted and unimagined time?”

The Great Mass | Lestat’s Concert
The Vampire Lestat was God; or the nearest thing he had ever known to it. The giant on the video screen gave his benediction to all that Daniel had ever desired. How could the others resist? Surely the fierceness of their intended victim made him all the more inviting. The final message behind all Lestat’s lyrics was simple: Lestat had the gift that had been promised to each of them; Lestat was unkillable. He devoured the suffering forced upon him and emerged all the stronger. To join with him was to live forever: This is my Body. This is my Blood.

My boyfriend was inspired when he saw that pic I reblogged earlier… so here’s a version with Actual Daniel. 😛

The Vampire Chronicles Characters: Claudia
“She was to be the demon child forever.”
“Now I knew her to be less human than either of us, less human
than either of us might have dreamed. Not the faintest conception
bound her to the sympathies of human existence. “

“’And you give all these things. They proceed from you. Life and death,’ she whispered, mocking him.
“’I have,’ he said. ‘I do.’”
