“It makes me kind of sad that so many amazing writers have left the fandom recently, especially salems-little-sadist and a-misunderstanding-my-love. Their interactions were always so intense! I like to think of Alakai and Nicolas as my favorite hateship. I hope to see the writers back in the fandom one day!”

“I met my best friend through The Vampire Chronicles. We RPed VC together for nearly 4 years when she went offline after becoming very down with her life. I thought the worst after a couple of weeks before she popped back up, literally on my doorstep. She moved half-way across the world, on her own with nothing but a bag of clothes and a copy of IWTV. She started her life over here and still tells me how it was our RPs that got her through and inspired her to move away from the toxicity.”

“So much love to gairid, I know she just had a notecard, but I’m doing one, too. Her blog has lots of great pictures, many of NOLA which she has taken herself, and that helps set a dreamy VC mood. Her writing is rich and her world-building is so advanced that I feel I’m walking down the street, grabbing a beer at on of Brian’s favorite bars, catching a glimpse of a certain couple making out in Pirate’s Alley… Don’t even get me started on her OCs. Brian is sweet and affable, but not a Gary Stu by any means. He’s got guts, and he takes care of his beloved bosses in more ways than they deserve. Her other unique OCs draw shining facets out from our favorite canon characters, which she writes with respect and even (dare I say) improves upon.

Basically she is a gem, an emerald? An opal? And we are very fortunate that she continues to give us more of what we’ve come to love from her!”

ooc; devilsfool was amazing.  I’ve RPed with many people throughout the three years I’ve been roleplaying Louis on Tumblr, and I can honestly say that devilsfool was one of the most effortless people to RP with.  We “clicked” very well in our writing.  We shared many of the same headcanons and I always looked forward to seeing them on the dash, or getting asks from them.  They’re such a sweetie OOC as well.  I’m still very, very sad that they’re not on Tumblr anymore.

Thank you to the person who submitted this for your kind words. ❤ I’m glad you enjoyed our RPs.

VC: Daniel Molloy & The Reference of Ruth 1:16

Warning; I’m about to wax at length about a
Daniel thing in Prince Lestat.
I’m probably “interrogating the text from the wrong perspective”, but so be it!
😀

So I’m poking my way through Prince Lestat again, because I
cannot resist squeezing every last bit of interesting detail out of any of the
Chronicles that has to do with Daniel, and I couldn’t resist taking a good long
look at this particular bit because I was also made to suffer four years of
seminary during my late teens, so any chance to use that knowledge for
something I actually enjoy is occasionally entertaining for this heathen.

The line from Prince Lestat I’ve been
pondering the last day or so:

Prince Lestat: He
and Daniel had to leave Brazil. This was a safe place no longer. Daniel said he
understood. “Whither thou goest, I go,”
he had said.

This is, of course, a partial quote from The
Old Testament which is full is:

Ruth 1:16: And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to
return from following after thee: for whither
thou goest, I will go
; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people
shall be my people, and thy God my God

With the last name Molloy,
it’s obvious that Daniel is of Irish descent, and so it seems to have become a
fairly consistent fan belief over the years (based on the fic and discussions
out there) that Daniel was likely raised in a Catholic environment. Personally,
this quote just cemented that fan-canon thought for me even more, and with that
in mind, it really added a new layer of depth to what Daniel is saying here.

I know it’s also been
speculated post Blood And Gold
that Daniel is in a situation he has little or no control over, being left or
taken into Marius’ care. That somehow he’s become a ‘lackey’ or he’d become a low-level
replacement for Those Who Must Be Kept. I know because I was a party of that
fan-camp of thought for quite some time. So believe me, this is a really big 180° for me to be taking.

It’s become clear in Prince Lestat that Daniel has
come back to his senses, but this particular line seems to also establish that
Daniel has remained and continues to remain with Marius of his own volition. His reference of The Book of Ruth is a pretty
subtle but clear indication that he’s accepted his companion and wants to
remain at his side. Wherever Marius goes, he’s going, and where Marius chooses
to live, that’s where Daniel will live.

It also adds an additional
potential layer of Daniel’s mindset toward Armand. In the Bible, Ruth
chooses to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, instead of going home to her
family, hence the famous quote. I can’t help but wonder if Daniel’s also subtly
referencing that even though Armand isn’t dead in the literalist of senses,
their relationship is. That of course also begs the question if he then thinks of Marius in a ‘familiar, paternal kind of way’ but I’m not going there right now. That’ll be for another time.

I am flailing so hard right now because I’ve wondered about that line and I love you to death for drawing this out and pointing out its implications in the context of Daniel-as-Catholic, and the relevance of the passage to Daniel’s situation.

Personally I got the feeling that Marius was doing some recovery of his own, and that possibly Daniel is staying with him for the time being because he’s needed, and Marius has done a lot for him. That’s not to say that I disagree entirely about his thinking re:Armand, I do think their reunion in PL is probably the first since Daniel ‘went mad’. So he wouldn’t have any particular reason to think they could pick their relationship back up, but he still seems pretty eager to go to Trinity and see everyone – and if going to Trinity meant ‘seeing the ex’ I think we could expect slightly more mixed feelings on Dan’s part? So while I do think he’s definitely staying with Marius by his own choice at this point, I guess I’m not sure about the finality of it. (But this post is really awesome and I love it.)

Yeah, I like the idea that the relationship (whether it’s just paternal or romantic) between Marius and Daniel has been therapeutic on both sides. I think that because neither made the other there’s a lack of pressure, and they were living together at what was clearly a very difficult time for both of them.

We get very little from Daniel’s POV in BaG but I suspect that for every one of Daniel’s worst moments as described by Marius, Daniel has also watched Marius spend an entire night just staring at the wall, or constantly putting an order for paint in an Amazon basket and then deleting it, putting it in and deleting it…

I kissed him. I pressed my lips to his and I held this kiss for a long silent moment. And then I gave in to a silent wave of feeling, and I took him in my arms. I held him tight against me. I felt his unmistakable silken skin, his soft shining black hair. I heard the blood throbbing in him, and time dissolved, and it seemed I was in some old and secret place, some warm tropical grotto we’d once shared, ours alone in some way, with the scent of sweet olive blossoms and the whisper of moist breeze. “I love you,” I whispered.
In a low intimate voice, he answered: “My heart is yours.”

I wanted to weep.
But there was no time.

Well.
What a journey. I have finally finished Prince Lestat and I am pleasantly surprised. Fully intending to hate every moment of it, I have to say, it was a heck of a lot better than I was expecting.
Lestat was his true self on so many occasions which made me incredibly happy. Granted, there were many times when he was not and that did irritate me but the moments where he was himself were a real delight. There were parts that definitely could have been better, but I was quietly surprised by how emotional I became at times.

Very well-put! I totally agree, and that’s why I can’t simply toss the whole book out for its ooc moments/plot/etc.. There were some gems in there for sure, and I like following the fanworks, RP, discussion, etc., it continues to generate.

[Read More is spoilery]

The loss of Maharet and Khayman hit me hard and in fact I almost stopped reading altogether at that point. (thanks to antoineandthepiano for encouraging me to continue!) I will freely admit that I cried at that unexpected loss and though I am not exactly sure yet how I am going to treat this. I am interested in roleplaying the events of Prince Lestat and after, so I am going to have to decide on this. If anyone would like to come and speak with me about it, that would be wonderful!

And I have to speak on the final chapter; Louis’ chapter. I loved this part and, despite the frustration I often experience with Anne’s writing, I really thought this was a master stroke. It was the perfect way to end this book and it left me so pleased, knowing that he was finally happy in himself.
So, with that done, I am now very keen to roleplay anything and everything from these books and rather excited for the coming release of the next one in the series. I can only hope that it is as good as this one has been.

To Ship or Not To Ship, that is the question…

the-gentleman-chronicler:

Question for the mun: who do you ship David with? And how hard to you ship them?

(I’d send an Ask like a normal question but for some reason the button is inaccessible when I’m… not on my home ‘puter…)(WHO IS A BAD GIRL DOING THIS FROM THE AWFFICE)(spoiler alert: it’s me)

———-

OOC:  (You BAD GIRL.  <3)

The H.M.S. Noship:  Okay.  So, for my take on David, I haven’t really settled him into any romantic relationships on Tumblr.  Part of this is because I play him still at a point where he is working through his transitions of mortality and immortality.  David’s having to relearn himself with this second ‘restart’, while also watching the last threads of his mortal life dissolving (i.e. All those people from the Talamasca that knew him when he was alive, that he visits as they die one by one.) around him.  It’s more of a struggle for him than his outward calm and demeanour indicates.  The idea of settling into a relationship is far from his thoughts.

That said, here are the ships in order of my hardcore-ness:

H.M.S. I Wanna Do Bad Things With You:  Armand/David

I put this one at the top of the list, and not for the obvious reasons that most people think.  Yes, David showed an inclination for youthful people in his mortal relationships.  However, that is hardly relevant now when he himself looks to be only in his mid-twenties.  In fact — while Armand is physically attractive — the physical aspect of it isn’t what draws David to him.

Armand has proven himself a formidable psychic presence.  His illusions, his ability to lock Ancients out of his mind.  He’s not an outwardly emotional individual.  Armand is balanced by all of the experiences of his life, and the intrigue of all those internalized mysteries appeals to David.

H.M.S. Facebook Status:  It’s Complicated:  Lestat/David

David loves Lestat.  Despite everything that happened, he loves him.  The obstacle is the loss of control and trust that exists for them now.  In his friendship with Lestat while he was mortal, David felt that they were coming together as peers, as equals.  That Lestat was considerably older than him didn’t matter:  He was able to advise him, to lend his opinion as a mortal man with a lifetime of experience.

Lestat never belonged to David.  In immortality, this is no different and he knows this.  David would be required to adapt himself to sharing Lestat with other people if they were going to have a successful romantic relationship.  They’d also need to go through a period of time where Lestat rebuilt that trust before David allowed Lestat to make him so vulnerable again.  Love and intimacy are a vulnerability of self, after all.

H.M.S. Brother From Another Mother: Louis/David

These two went through a roller coaster of emotions together after Memnoch.  David was still new in the Blood, and Lestat was suddenly gone beyond their reach.  They had to lean on one another to get through it.  David built up such tender feeling towards Louis while all of this was happening.  He found in Louis an ideal person to spend the quiet time with.  They both have that quiet in common; the peace of just spending a night reading, not seeking excitement.

The situation with Merrick was heartbreaking.  Not because of David (under the influence of the spell) fearing so much that he was losing her to Louis but due to the heartache he clearly demonstrates in believing that Louis was violating his trust selfishly in pursuit of the woman.  The end of the chapter where they ask David to leave always breaks my heart.  His threat to Louis seems like David bracing himself to lose Louis too in all of the mess.

H.M.S.  I Don’t Even Know, Bro: ??/David

I haven’t explored too many major ships beyond those.  I could see David settling happily with people like Jesse, Daniel, even Marius.  Those with a similar appreciation for knowledge or with their own unique intellect.  And of course I ship Aaron Lightner/David Talbot BROSHIP FOREVER.
