Lestat and his son would both have an IG, and would get really annoyed when ppl confuse them (since they look so similar). Lestat maintains that his Insta is much classier with much better fashion, whereas Viktor’s in his greasy, sorta drug addict, grunge posing stage.
I don’t do IG, but Ton Heukels is chosen now and then as a Lestat RP face claim.
Sure, go on to PL! I hope you have more of an appreciation for the main characters since you know their background. I sympathize with your time constraints.
Prince Lestat CAN be considered a stand alone, AR said herself it can be treated like that. It’s just so stand alone that I consider it very Alternate Universe. You’ll see what I mean.
*sigh* It’s so strange that ppl want to rush to PL, but I guess it’s bc it’s the currently newest VC and the upcoming book is a sequel to it.
As far as triggering elements, there are some in PL. I won’t spoil you directly but I’ll just toss in some questionnable categories of things I remember being in PL (this is not all-inclusive, I may have forgotten a few bc I read it almost 2 years ago and I can’t read it again yet):
An emotionally abusive relationship between a female college student and a male adult authority figure
Other abuse of that female college student that she suffered as a child (not sexual but physical and emotional)
Body horror (sort of?)
Gorey moments (one involving a few amputations, one involving brains, some murder bc VAMPIRES)
Lestat in a non-consensual blood-related attack moment (but he doesn’t get away with it unpunished)
Yep, good motivation to be in the shape you want to be in! You never know when a vampire might offer you eternal life and not be willing to wait ;}
^This is Raja from RuPaul’s Drag Race bc IDK I LIKE THEIR BODY I LIKE THEIR WHOLE LOOK! Slay.
(Ricean vampires do get a light makeover in the process; Gabrielle got some 30 years wiped away, ending up w/ a more youthful appearance. But it won’t lose you 30 lbs.)
Fingernails are not subject to the Rule of As-Is, my new term for the aspects of appearance someone has as a mortal that will be strictly adhered to when they are turned (like the fact that they are missing a limb, or their hair is shoulder-length, things like that).
[X Lestat left one of his vicious little thumb rings w/ me <3]
It could stay uneven/broken for other vampires in other media.
Why aren’t Ricean vampire fingernails subject to the Rule of As-Is? Well, as you say, an uneven/broken nail would be hella inconvenient for eternity! But none of AR’s vampires ever mentioned having this issue, and with so many vampires, who have known so many more vampires, collectively, surely one of them would have brought it up by now if it were a thing. So I have to conclude that fingernails are not subject to the Rule of As-Is.
[^Claudia’s aren’t long but she was a child, special exception. In Ricean vampires, their nails also have a kind of glassy sheen also my hands are prettier than Louis’ hands]
I headcanon that their nails grow to a certain length when they are turned, longer than they were in life, and will grow back to that length after being filed down. Lestat files his nails, he’s doing it in IWTV:
“And he drew
from his pocket a nail file, and, seating himself on the foot of the old
man’s bed, he began to file his long nails… I could
hear the old man talking to Lestat; Lestat, who sat with his legs crossed,
filing and filing, one eyebrow arched, his attention on his perfect nails.”
Bc in vampire lore, in general, abnormally long fingernails are considered a sign of being a vampire. This comes from the fact that when you exhume a body from its coffin (to check to see whether dead Auntie Vivienne has been turned into a vampire *gasp*), the nails appear to have continued to grow, therefore, Auntie Viv must be undead! In fact:
“It is not that the fingernails are growing, but that the skin around them retracts as it becomes dehydrated, making them appear longer. When preparing a body, funeral directors will sometimes moisturise the fingertips to counteract this.” [X]
Ummmm I’m 99% sure he’s ever mentioned cutting it in canon, he’s far too in love with it to cut it ;} It’s sort of his security blanket.
I headcanon that he does style it, he’s braided it like Thor, he’s into trendy accessories and sparkly clips, he’s dyed colorful streaks into it. He’s very into the manbun fad as long as there’s a lot of front pieces loose:
No worries, I understand what you’re asking ❤ I could write SO MUCH on this, so I’ll try to keep it short and basic.
We all picture him differently, I think that’s what will make it so hard to cast an actor. I still debate with ppl about his hair: whether it’s chestnut-color (like in movie!IWTV), shorter and curlier (like in Lestat the Musical), or dark, longish and silky as in a lot of the fanart. We all apply our own ideals of beauty (which are influenced by our own cultures, art, families, romantic partners, and/or friends, etc.) onto him. Plus, the other VC characters are generally more poetic when they describe him; they detail his inner qualities more than his physical ones.
That said, I agree that he would appear at first to have an overall delicate and almost androgynous figure, and he moves with a lot of grace and dignity, but he can definitely kick ass when necessary; there’s muscle and skill packed into that slender build >;}
I imagine his eyes as being more of a sea-green, maybe not like lasers ALL the time, but with a sparkle to them,
…with a good fringe of inky eyelashes when his eyes close,
^and that feathery but still masculine eyebrow.
^X these eyes belong to Steven Kelly. His lips are a lot bigger then I picture Louis’s lips, but his jawline is right (it’s a flattering angle tho tbh), and Louis is described as having a narrow head.
As for the body, I picture him as a little underweight due to the state of physical unfitness he was in in the month(s) leading up to his turning, but still muscular:
^X Simon Nessman would probably not like to hear himself called physically unfit, what I mean is, he’s got the basic setup, is a little underweight, not all !bursting! with muscle. (yes I imagine Louis has dark nips like this but a more pronounced happy trial *blushes*)
@eibhlis97 and I agree that he has great thighs due to riding horses all his life ;}
And a view from the back, bc yes, he requires, as you put it: “long legs ( and of course nice butt ).”
^X Louis will wear heels for Lestat on occasion. Very special occasions. Right, @vampchronfic?
I’ve heard of this term, Mandela Effect, seen it in discussion re: the Berenstain Bears, for sure.
But really? All these ppl misremembering the title? Or was it more like this:
The Mandela Effect
“The Mandela Effect is a collective misremembering of a fact or event. Various theories have been proposed to explain what causes it, some more sensible than others.”
That might be it. Idk, I feel like I’m not really affected by this bc I am so obsessed with it that I never misremember it. It seems like ppl who say Interview with “a” Vampire are either:
A) Purposely saying it wrong bc it sounds slightly amusing wrong (it kinda does!);
B) It really might have been translated that way in their native language;
C) They’re really not as into the series in general so it doesn’t matter whether they have a word wrong;
FAR TOO MANY. But I can’t be all that annoyed at them bc I think it might have been translated that way in some languages. Other things have been lost in translation or changed, and that’s affected ppl’s headcanons.
[Note: Mun & muse do not accept the entirety of PL as canon, definitely not Viktor, but Lestat said he’d play along for the sake of this Ask.]
♛Honestly, I try not to feel anything about Viktor.
I barely know him and he has shown little interest in me. I assume he’s read my books but I have no idea. He seems to prefer thinking he burst forth riding a giant gilded petri dish like Venus on her scallop shell. Fine. That’s probably how I’d act in his position.
[Spoiler Alert]
Here’s the thing, anonymous person, how would you feel if someone told you you had a son, and before you could hardly even entertain the idea, they tell you he’s practically an adult, he was raised in a lab full of scientist-vampires, and that what he wants more than anything in the world, more than anything money can buy or any experience, even a relationship with you, is to become a vampire, too? Just another mortal who finds us beautiful, magical, has little idea of the grotesque nightly payment required? Killing is not always fun. Often it’s repulsive. This is a true customer service job, closer to butchery than the refined elegance people love to romanticize it as being.
Before you start with me on that, yes, I’m sure his “parents” told him about that part of it, too, but please *waves his hand* I met him when he was mortal and had all the starry-eyed wonder of someone who idealizes what we are, ignoring whatever they find remotely distasteful.
It’s been years now and I’m still livid about it. Surely there would have been a way to reach me about him sooner? What’s been stolen from me is priceless. His first words, his first steps, all the joy of sharing my son’s childhood. Earning his trust. He acts like I abandoned him all those years! I am a “deadbeat dad” by his creator’s design.
Did they think I would confuse him?
Did they think I would hurt him? Kill him? They’ve done so much damage keeping us apart that there may be no healing of that wound, even with vampiric blood.
I’m livid about all of that, and that’s only the second chapter beyond the fact that his very creation was not my choice, either. I didn’t sign any waivers giving them permission to make a child from my little experiment. What of possible failures they made before him? Potentially: other children who were biologically unstable, never made it to adulthood, suffering in their short lives. It horrifies and disgusts me.
Are you starting to get the picture? Do you have the faintest idea? I’m livid. I’m a father to him in the biological sense of the word only. It even seems that he actively tries to suppress anything of me in him, and isn’t that part of the thrill of having a child? Seeing yourself reflected in them? He reflects nothing back to me, only that we share an uncanny physical resemblance. He should dye his hair if he hates me so very much.
I try not to feel anything about Viktor. It takes me down a road that leads nowhere.
