What’s your preferred fighting style? Do you prefer to use physical weapons or no?

thelionscrimsonclaws:

Depends on who I’m up against….but I’m lethal enough on my own.  My nails, teeth, strength, and will to live are my best weapons and not much is a match for me.  The ax…well, that’s more for show.  If I am overwhelmed and need to turn to weapons, then we’re all in trouble, wouldn’t you think?

Gosh, Santa de Lioncourt kills me every time. I’m weeping with laughter, and it’s your fault :’) Précieux petit croissant, ne cesse jamais d’être aussi drôle!

♛Et tu me fais plaisir, aussi! Il faut que je continuer à faire ça, c’est ma metier et ma passion terrible. ooc; *hides face* because you’re gonna correct the femininity/masculinity of my nouns now but you should be impressed that I TRIED. “A” for effort, I award it to myself.

Okay so like, I haven’t read a lot of the series, so I’m really curious about this because I at least think I saw something about it a while ago but I’ve never really been certain. Does Armand have a band, or is it just Lestat??

Yep, it’s just Lestat, with his band, Satan’s Night Out, not Armand ;]

How Lestat wants to look on stage:

But also this:

Did anybody like Anne Rice or the director of IWTV have anything to say with the way Armand was portrait in the movie. Did they say why movie Armand didn’t have red short hair and wasn’t 17?

Well, I have never come across an interview with AR or director Neil Jordan about why Antonio was cast for Armand. I should have an FAQ and when I do, this will be right up at the top of that list!

I should probably watch IWTV with the director commentary again; he might have mentioned smtg about it and I’ve just forgotten, so I will do that.

ANYWAY, there are a bunch of theories as to why Armand is portrayed the way he is in the movie and my fave explanation, currently, is that movie!Armand is actually a blend of Armand and Santino.

Why do that?:

  • If they had cast a cherubic teenage redhead (or older creepy cherub dude trying to look 17 *cough cough* movie!QotD *cough*) it might have made Louis look like a pedophile, dumping his 11 yr old “beloved” (as he calls her) for someone only 6 yrs older (in appearance, anyway).
  • For people who hadn’t read the book, someone cuter than Louis might have taken the sympathy away from him (who was supposed to remain the focus, it’s HIS story, after all). That would have been compromised by omg cute little redhead bby we want to snuggles you!
  • Armand was supposed to replace Lestat in the sense of being a better mentor/teacher/father figure to Louis, and so that someone had to be more paternal-looking. Someone who would look older.
  • The actor had to be a bigger star than Brad Pitt (or at least older than BP)
  • And he had to have some European or other ethnicity, because these Parisian vampires were supposed to be darker, scarier, more like Real Vampires of the Old Ways than the softer Americanized Vampires. Their vampire makeup (aside from their TdV costuming) shows them to almost be a different, more vicious species from Louis (who has to still maintain his “most human”-looking vampire status).

In all this, Santino really fits the bill better, and my guess is that AR suggested it, she was the screenwriter, after all.

Can we give Claudia Blak a second chance(she played Panda in the movie we don’t talk about) and cast her as Gabrielle?

Well my initial thought was We can forgive but we will never forget.

image

^But tbh this was not her fault, and I’m sure she did the best she could, and honestly, I had no idea how beautiful she really is under all that hideous makeup like wtf was up with that extra pocket of white shimmer eye powder in the inner tear duct area on all those vampires in QOTD it was hella weird!

image

And how playful she can be!

And how seasonally appropriate!

In short Yes, let’s please give Claudia Black a second chance at VC. As someone. Maybe Gabrielle even!

Do you have any fanfiction recommendations? Personal favorites?

Fanfic?? there’s no such thing as VC fanfic… pfffft. What are you crazy honestly??!

image

^Lestat is laughing bc he knows I is sarcastic.

I have a huge list of faves. HUGE. But the thing about VC fanfic is that we still have to be sort of careful about sharing it bc of reasons (under the cut if you wanna know why).

MY faves may not be what you’re looking for as I tend to skew L/L, since they are the OTP I am hopelessly afflicted with, but I have some drabbles and links to fic saved with other characters in my #fanfic, and #damn you and your perfect headcanon perfection tags here. There’s also some fine stuff in the @vcsecretgifts archive.

Archive of Our Own (aka AO3)

has a mission statement about protecting fanworks from copyright infringement arguments, so I feel pretty safe recc’ing stuff that’s on there:

  • Gulfport: A British Petroleum Fanfic (Part One) by hw_campbell_jnr  – There are 2 parts and it’s incomplete but this is devastatingly beautiful long!fic. Hipster modern Lestat and Louis, Lestat going by a pseudonym, politics woven in, it’s just too good. It annoys me how good it is. I am annoyed. I would be less annoyed if it were COMPLETED.

Hit the jump for a teensy fanfic history lesson.

In short, Anne Rice had waged war on VC fanfic in the mid-90s, sic’ing her lawyers on many fanfic writers, eventually breaking apart fanfic sites (“speculative fiction” or “spec” archives/communities) and driving many of these writers to stop writing altogether or do so in a more underground way.

Currently, she’s had conflicting stances on fanfic, but hasn’t made outright war at nearly that level. We try not to tag her in discussions of it, basically, we don’t try to provoke her by making our caches of VC fanfic known. Especially on Facebook, where she’s very active and might see it. She posted this on her FB in 2014 (I think):

So what do the VC vampires do for Thanksgiving and Christmas?

(You might want to check @vcsecretgifts for more VC holiday goodness!)

image

 [fanart by Dany&Dany]

They gather together and be sociable! There’s an ugly sweater contest, just to irritate Lestat (it really does!). Daniel usually wins bc he is willing to spend hours hunting second-hand stores to find the VERY WORST, and most authentic, tacky holiday sweaters. In fact Louis lets him choose. Without fail, Lestat has to rush Louis home to tear off such an abomination.

#Your headcanon may vary on this, but Thanksgiving, being an American holiday, is probably ignored by most of the coven. Lestat has thrown feasts for small groups of gangsters bad guys, however, just to really enjoy drenching them in the finest alcohol so he can sample whatever’s in fashion. Sometimes Armand, Daniel, Marius, or others, join him in this.

Marius, too, throws feasts for mortals, but when he’s hosting, they’re as safe from him as the most of the Palazzo boys were; he loves the chance to argue things like politics and the current trends in cinema with collegiate people.

Xmas, too, may not be celebrated by all the vampires since most are secular in their beliefs, but they all like to do some measure of decorating for it. Lestat goes all out, with the biggest tree he can fit in the Rue Royale, layering it with ornaments and tons of tinsel (the poor cleaning crew are still finding bits of it 6 months later), and Louis has become very enamored with LED string lights. The fountain and plants in the courtyard is thoroughly threaded with lights in several pastel colors by December 1.

There was one year that Lestat felt required to top the tree with a most unusual ornament
