Signature and Ireland’s renowned Field Day Theatre Company are thrilled to present the U.S. premiere of 1996-97 Playwright-in-Residence Sam Shepard’s A Particle of Dread. This dark, fragmented, modern-day take on Oedipus Rex premiered in Derry, Ireland and features Academy Award-nominee Stephen Rea in the canonical central role, alongside a cast of actors from both sides of the Atlantic.

The Queen of Shadows has been silent for too long; her powers have regrown and her subjects move to shift the balance. Few stand against her, and those that do aren’t exactly hero material. An unlikely group of inhumans is brought together by circumstance and find themselves drawn into the war against the shadows while struggling to deal with their own problems. Between vampire politics, lost aliens, and the struggle to blend in with humanity, they have the odds stacked. The patchwork group may be the only hope left as the Shadow Queen nears her ultimate goal…godhood.

It’s short for Mater Glorioso, Latin for “Glorious Mother.” Not sure who or when first coined the term, but it’s the VC fandom’s loving and sarcastic way of paying tribute to the creator of the VC.

I’m so excited for this because remcovanstraten and I approached the Strand Arts Centre with the idea and they jumped at it – now we’re hoping to get the word out to as many fans as possible, so if you can share this we’d really appreciate it.
I don’t know many VC fans locally, but I bet there’s more of us lurking in the shadows – if this sounds like a great night out to you, all the info you’ll need is here:
