When did you learn to drive? Who taught you?

sangcreole:

“I first started to drive just a decade or so after the automobile was becoming widely accessible to the average consumer, sometime just before the 20s I believe. I never had a professional instructor as we think of them today, seeing as they were still rather new and potentially dangerous that most automobile manufacturers or sellers would volunteer a brief guidance lesson. It was odd to see the physical evidence of the world’s transition into the modern era, but the very first time I drove down an open stretch of road I was so overwhelmed with a sense of liberation that I could barely breathe. I cannot remember feeling more free than I did in that moment.

To fully answer the question, I did not get a modern driver’s license until 1957, and I did not require a teacher for that either. It was easy to read the guidebooks and memorize the rules of the road; I even went so far as to read and memorize the entire manual for my Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible. Driving a car is, understandably, much easier with enhanced eyesight and lightning fast reaction time- therefore, I’m an excellent driver by mortal standards and have no need for instruction.”

//ooc: I love this answer. Imagine Louis in one of ^these cute old cars omg! It’s a Circa 1915 Model 37 or 38 Oakland.

NOW imagine him in this (black, of course) 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible:

For some reason, I think Lestat would belt out No Excuses by Meghan Trainor. (It’s ok to tell me if I’m wrong.)

AGREE. It falls under #music Lestat motorcycles to, I think it’d totally pump him up ^______^  #HEADCANON ACCEPTED.

I recently found a band called Halestorm, and I’m pretty sure Lestat listens to their music.

Oh wow, for sure! She has a really good mix of 70′s and 90′s to her, I think he’d be down to jam with her band sometime ;D She has a touch of Axl Rose, with her own unique vocal growl. Good lyrics, too.

Halestorm – “I Am The Fire” [Official Video]

“I am the fire
I am burning brighter
Roaring like a storm
And I am the one I’ve been waiting for
Screaming like a siren
Alive and burning brighter
I am the fire”

^I tried a few of their songs and I really liked

this one, it falls under #music Lestat motorcycles to, I think it’d totally pump him up ^______^

@the-divine-in-you
reblogged your photoset and added:

Guuuurl, how did that come around to you!!!??? ;D

Tumblr tags me when my gifs are used, the first time it’s put in the post, and sometimes it notifies me when other ppl rebagel it, so I saw it bc of a reblob after you put it in ;D This was perf gif usage btw.

All: feel free to use my gifs for reactions to posts if you think it adds smtg significant. Sometimes #How to make a post a VC post yields hilarious results.

Hey Lestat! I’m a huge fan! I’m looking for a set of fangs I can wear for Hallow’s Eve or on other occasions when I need a confidence boost, but I want to be as realistic as I can. Would you recommend a style, find me a picture (or take one!) of fangs as close to the ones you have as possible? If nobody makes them properly, I’ll at least need a picture so I can make them myself, since I know where to find all the necessary tools. Thanks in advance!

♛Of course you’re a huge fan of mine, how could you not be? *smiles*

Fangs do give mortals a noticeable confidence boost; every version of myself I see on the streets of New Orleans is just oozing with it. Even those masquerading in cosplay as Armand or Louis take pleasure in flaunting their fangs.

The only fangs I “make” are the ones grown naturally by my fledglings or the one custom pair that I discussed previously, which were realistic in shape but not material. Take note, I actually have six upper fangs. I don’t know why. Something to do with our appetites, perhaps. That’s all the advice I have on that.

//ooc; so Lestat obviously can’t really take a picture for you! But here’s a pic of Brad trying on fangs for IWTV. More angles here [X]. They did two sets in IWTV, these are the “attack” or “wide-shot” fangs, longer than the normal ones so that they’re visible from a distance.

Claudia’s here are shorter, possibly bc she was a child, but also bc Michele Burke was going for a vampire makeup in which at first the vampires looked like normal people, but w/ something slightly *off,* that they could conceal the fangs when speaking, passing for normal people, or reveal them if they chose to do so.

what is my life that I’m drawing whiskers on a pic of Brad Pitt from 1992 or ‘93 and indicating which of his teeth would be fangs OH WELL

image

^Basically you want the fangs to be long enough to be visible but not interfere when you close your mouth, so they’re really more draping along the outside of the lower teeth. To get that canine point looking sharp, curving it back like a snake’s makes sense.

The IWTV fangs also involve the lateral incisor, the tooth between the front and the canine, and here it’s also kind of pointed backwards here but I think Tom’s was done straighter. It also looks like Tom had the first premolars as fangs, too, but I’m not sure. Doing the lower canine is a thing other vampire media does, often. I’m not sure if they did that for IWTV. I don’t think so since this post has Brad’s fangs for sale on eBay and it’s only the upper teeth.

I imagine straight or curved, having one or two neighboring fangs would be beneficial for gripping a struggling victim’s flesh, sharing the strain put on the canines.

Hello! You know, now that some other anon just mentioned the whole Casting Stress™, I have to admit that the Lestat casting is freaking me out. Maybe I just got too attached to Tom Cruise (’cause, c’mon, he was BRILLIANT but maybe i’m just fangirling here) and now I’m too afraid that Lestat won’t be as good played by another actor and it is, indeed, stressing. Like, everyone in this fandom has a different headcanon and goddamit that’s tricky!

First of all: “Casting Stress™” ? ACCEPTED. New tag.

RE: “Like, everyone in this fandom has a different headcanon and goddamit that’s tricky!” That’s an understatement, lol. Even AR has a different headcanon than we do, apparently. Reconciling all our headcanons is highly unlikely, but it’s great that we have Tom’s Lestat as evidence that the actor CAN win ppl over based on their acting (and the rest of the cast & crew’s efforts**) to overcome their physical non-compliance re:

headcanon.

Obviously I’m also very attached to Tom Cruise’s Lestat, I feel ya there ❤

TL;DR: I would hope that whoever gets cast will give it their professional best AND win us over as best they can, have a whole team supporting them well, and a director/showrunner with a clear vision. It’s not all on the new Lestat’s shoulders. It’s a team effort.

Hit the jump for a little more.

And I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again: I’d love to have him train the new Lestat, or at least be available as an adviser, but a new actor will probably want to stake their own claim on the character, like Heath Ledger made his own Joker w/o Jack Nicholson’s advice (I don’t think they talked about it). Different Jokers, different films. Gonna be a different Lestat for a different adaptation.

What made Tom’s Lestat so great? A lot of factors had to come together but mainly, he did his homework, he had read at least the first three books (maybe the 4th, too), he practiced reading aloud from books from the time period the character lived in, watched videos of lions attacking prey (yes they used to show that kinda thing on TV!), etc., and did a lot of that work on his own. I see it in the tags pretty often that ppl who dislike Tom in general loved him in this role.

**But more than his own work, he had a director* with a clear vision and a full cast and crew supporting that vision. Every department contributed to his (and the film’s) success, makeup, costume, set design, special fx, music, etc., it all harmonized in the end. I’m not saying it was the BEST FILM OF EVER, but it was a successful adaptation in my opinion, and I’m not the only one of that opinion. I’ve been told publicly and privately that that adaptation was the gateway drug to many ppl reading the books, so in that sense, it was successful!

*Apparently Neil Jordan was responsible for most of the comedy that got into the script, mostly in Lestat’s dialogue/actions. It was Neil’s idea to add that ending, which was more upbeat than the original ending (which was the book’s ending). That’s an example of a director making a choice that deviated from canon and it working out (admittedly, it would have caused canon continuity issues for a sequel). I’m sure there are ppl who would still prefer the canon ending, but the majority of opinions I’ve seen/heard have been that ppl liked the changed ending.

Hi Lestat, I wonder what u and Louis would do if you have chance to become mortals for just one day.

♛Darling, I would jump at the chance to be mortal with Louis for even one day. When I first met him, I wanted so badly to at least draw out the time I could spend with him as a mortal, but that simply wasn’t possible.

image

There are many things we sacrifice when we become what we are and I’d be content to just lay out in the sunshine with him in some grassy and flowery field in the middle of nowhere with a picnic basket and a few chilled bottles of French white wine (I love soda, but it makes me burp, and that could put a real damper on the mood), plucking dandelions to make a chain… eventually he’d complain that it’s too bright and that he’s getting a sunburn. We’d find some shade under a tree and drink in the softer dappled light with our whole bodies. And then… who knows what we might be inspired to do together? *winks*

Louis answered this question, and I’ll consider his answers.

“Sunrise/sunset: Too obvious? Oh well. It’s the truth. I’d witness it, and feel that unique pleasure of sunlight climbing up my bare skin, that warmth spreading, not as a warning, but a loving embrace. That same feeling in reverse, as it slipped away at the end of the day.”

He fails to consider sunburn, but I’d slather him well with sunscreen. Oh yes. Slather him very well.

“Swim in the ocean, somewhere tropical, perhaps, and feel the tickle of the fish around my body. Maybe take one of those aqueous cameras to capture the composition of the scenery myself, as a memento. I don’t imagine wearing any cumbersome swimwear in this scenario. Maybe just diving equipment (Lestat and I are excellent divers).”

Sure. I’m with him on this. Creatures in the Octopus’s Savage Garden! Sea anemones, forests of coral… I’d also want to go looking for those smaller sharks that don’t have much interest nibbling on humans but are beautiful and dangerous to look at. Or dolphins! Dolphins speckled with webs of sunlight…

“Food and drink: it could be a gastronomic adventure. I was never what you call a “foodie” now, but I have some dishes that I would love to experience again. Crêpe Suzette, for breakfast. Fruits, apple juice, coffee. Black coffee, café au lait, jasmine green tea. Beignets from the Cafe du Monde. Gumbo (with alligator). Crawfish étouffée.”

I’m with Louis on all of this. Sounds delish. And then watch him have a stomach ache from too much indulgence! I’ll hold his hair back when he’s tossing his cookies, as they say. Poor Louis.

“Other drink: I wouldn’t want to become so drenched in liquor that it would limit my experience, so I would opt for a few classic mixed drinks, rather than my previous mortal fare of anything in large quantities. A few glasses of St. Germain 75. Or Mezcal. Perhaps something I never got to try as a mortal, Aszú Tokay. I’ve been told it’s very syrupy, but it may go well with vanilla ice cream.”

I’d carefully drench him in liquor in the evening, he is a lovable drunk.

“- Dancing
– Go listen to a string quartet or trio in a garden.
– Ride through my old plantation on horseback.”

That’s all fine by me.

Is Tom Cruise also in VC fandom?

Not that I know of but I consider him an honorary member, he read the first 4 books to prepare for the role and at one point was interested in playing Lestat again. He has only ever spoken highly of Lestat ❤

image

I’d love for him to be involved in the next adaptation in whatever capacity; I’d love him to play Lestat’s dad, bc he’s old enough now! Or if he could be a Lestat coach for the next Lestat, that’d be awesome, too.
