I’m so glad I was the one who had to empty
the mailbox today, if my mother found this I would have to do a whole lot of
explaining. Also, the postman probably thinks I’m crazy now for receiving this.

I opened the mailbox hoping that my Ebay package had arrived. But when I looked I saw this, the flipside with
my name on it caught my eye. I never get postcards, from who could this be? I
twist it around and see this crazy picture and suddenly I remember, this is
from I-want-my-IWTV! A big smile appears on my face, I totally wasn’t expecting
this and I had already kind of forgotten about her saying that I would get
this. My fangirl feelings suddenly went through the roof. It was kinda
awesome to pretend that this card might have come from Mr. de Lioncourt himself 🙂  Thank you @i-want-my-iwtv you have made my day. The text on the back was also very fitting.

Afterwards I had to get some groceries
and I was smiling constantly while shopping just because this card was such a
nice surprise. I thought showing it with my VC books would be fitting, so I
did.

I approve of the choice of display <333 And what a nice story to add to it, I’m very pleased with your reaction ^_____^

P.S. There are alot of judgemental postal workers who’ve seen these cards, I’m sure… but maybe some were VC fans? And were jealous?!

ANYWAY you’re very welcome, and actually, I sent myself one for the same purpose… I wanted a card from them, too! *u*

Here’s that fanart by @ashetray, btw.

This might be a strange question, but does the VC affect your day to day life? For example: you’re reading a book and you think “Louis might like this.” Or you see a child and her appearance reminds you of Claudia? Or perhaps you find yourself quoting something from the books when you’re having a conversation. Do you ever experience those little daily moments when the VC doesn’t seem to be relevant but suddenly you are reminded of it because of the things you experience?

Not a strange question at all! It does affect me, in a positive way 😀

  • Kids often make me think about Claudia, both for VC casting ideas and also what it would be like to be an adult trapped in that little body (5 yr olds really are small!). I’ve never seen a *~perfect~* kid to play her, though. I think Kirsten Dunst set the bar very high.
  • Speaking of VC casting – I am always on the lookout for that. There’s a homeless guy I pass by on a regular basis who might be great for Lestat’s dad during the IWTV era. I’d love to share a pic but I feel like it would be rude to take one 😛
  • My headcanon for the VC characters is often in the back of my mind, and something might spark an idea about one or more of them, useful for fanfic ideas… Here in NYC I saw some older ladies, tourists, petting some huge police horses with policemen in the saddles, looking down and making small talk back at the ladies, and I had a very clear vision of Lestat seeing that as a form of fellatio (the men were straddling these massive animals and the women were flirting with them, practically fondling the horse’s necks and faces!) and finding it pretty hilarious, having to explain why he was laughing to Louis… so I wrote it up: 9TH AVE, BETWEEN 57TH & 58TH ST.
  • I’ll often slip in quotes from the books in emails or conversation partly bc they sound good but also it’s sort of a feeler to fish out other VC fans. Sometimes it works, too!

It works on bad days, too, I’ll just remind myself that Lestat doesn’t take this kind of crap from anyone, he just dusts himself off and kicks the asses that needed kicking!

Finally, a week after my arrival, I found David in the empty Rijksmuseum, just after sunset, sitting on the bench before the great Rembrandt portrait of the Members of the Drapers’ Guild.

The Tale Of The Body Thief – Anne Rice

I went to the Rijksmuseum today and I brought my book with me just to take this picture. I like to imagine Lestat really stood at the exact spot where I was standing today.

I’m not fishing for attention, but I think @i-want-my-iwtv might want to look at this because it’s VC related.

This is absolutely VC related!! Vampires appreciating the hell out of and talking about art is one of my favorite things ❤

Syndics of the Drapers’ Guild – Rembrandt, 1662

“The faces
are exquisitely beautiful, full of wisdom and gentleness and a near angelic
patience. Indeed, these men more resemble angels than ordinary men.

 They
seemed possessed of a great secret, and if all men were to learn that secret,
there would be no more wars or
vice or malice on earth. How did such persons ever become members of the
Drapers’ Guild of Amsterdam
in the 1600s?

’Are
there any vampires in this world who have such faces?’ [David] asked.
He
gestured to the men staring down at us from the canvas. ‘I am speaking of
the knowledge and understanding which lies behind these faces. I’m speaking of
something more indicative of immortality than a preternatural body anatomically
dependent upon the drinking of human blood.’

‘Vampires
with such faces?’ I responded. ‘David, that is unfair. There are no
men with such faces. There never
were.

Look at
any of Rembrandt’s paintings. Absurd to believe that such people ever existed,
let alone that Amsterdam was full of them in Rembrandt’s time, that every man
or woman who ever darkened his door was an angel.
No, it’s Rembrandt you see in
these faces, and Rembrandt is immortal, of course.’ ”

– Lestat, The Tale Of The Body Thief

Here I am again with another VC casting, what about David Garrett as Nicolas? He plays the violin, has long hair and has a historical appearance. I think he would be a good person to play Nicolas.

Interesting choice! He can definitely play a violin.

Tons of vids to choose from, I picked this bc he’s playing it w/o any accompaniment and you can see him really getting into the music like Nicolas did. “And this is what I do!” TOO FRICKIN’ CUTE. 30 seconds in and he’s already proven he can “rip into a little sonata, sweet enough and just short enough to bring down the house.” And now I headcanon that Nicki tied his hair back like this on occasion ❤

~AND NOW LETS LOOK AT SOME STILLS~

… BC OF REASONS.

This is from Playboy ‘09 and like, awww yisss that is a yummy filthy musician wearing a clean shirt and jacket:

We also already have fanart of him in which he looks like Nicolas! This is by buriedflowers on DA:

He played Paganini in the Devil’s Violinist, appropriately. I didn’t see it so I can’t comment but maybe I will have to watch it now… here’s a little scene from it, tho!

I have another suggestion for a possible VC casting, which would be Rami Malek as Enkil. I think he has the right face for it, and he already played the role of an Egyptian ruler in Night At The Museum. (And he was a vampire in the movie Breaking Dawn, but let’s forget those catastrophic Twilight movies.)

One of my fave topics is VC casting 😀 and Enkil doesn’t get enough love. So naturally I wrote an unnecessarily long-ass answer.

image

(^Rami Malek from NatM bc I couldn’t look at pics of him from Twilight, that vampire makeup was just too weird for me and that’s saying a lot bc I love the gross vampire makeup from 30 Days of Night.)

Rami is ethnically perfect and very cute and Enkil was supposedly pretty young when he started his rule:“But he was young and strong and determined to rule his land.” Maharet talking about Enkil, QOTD

And he looks like someone a giant bitch in a tiny package Strong Woman like Akasha could push around without much resistance. I vaguely remember liking Rami in NatM, all those characters were somewhat cartoonish and I always enjoy that. I’ve only seen bits of the Twilight movies but not enough to poison myself, and not enough to remember him from them 😛

But if you really want MY opinion, he’s not my first choice for Enkil.

We first really meet Enkil in TVL when Lestat meets him for a cordial discussion Enkil nearly crushes Lestat’s skull in defense of his Queenie. Even before that moment, Lestat is freaking the hell out over TWMBK. Not many characters are capable of scaring the (figurative) shit out of Lestat, and Enkil is one of them. So he needs to be able to look intimidating before he can speak or even move. Granted, some of Lestat’s flipping-out was more about the fact that they might be paralyzed inside their bodies (if you haven’t seen @remarried’s fanart of that moment you really must), but still. The near skull-crushing certainly gave him someone to be scared of in Enkil. Normally I defend all actor’s abilities over their physical characteristics, but in this case, he starts out as a statue, and needs to look intimidating without the help of fancy moves and lines.

So I imagine him looking more masculine, a hint of grimness (he orders some pretty cruel stuff if you remember!) and some mystery in his face, and I happened to see Ranveer Singh on my dash just today… and yes. Yes yes. Yisss.

image

Difficulty: Finding pics of Ranveer NOT smiling. I don’t know his acting, whether he does Serious at all, but physically, Ranveer matches my headcanon better than Rami. Rami might be a good Khayman, though.

I’m also not of the Social Justice Warrior contingency that demands ethnic conformance of the actor to the character. I am not politically correct *shrugs*

And Enkil does love Akasha, and I would want some snuggles like this:

My confession, since I began reading the VC I am somehow not afraid of the dark anymore and I found out that I can deal with death better now.

♛I told Gabrielle, “We are the things that others fear, Remember that.” It’s an empowering concept.

I always had a high tolerance for what others consider distasteful, but it definitely escalated after I was turned. I threw up my own blood and then found myself relishing the taste of it, licking it off the stone floor near a pile of dead bodies that resembled me! I scooped up a rat and studied its paws in front of retail people!

I’m glad to have shed light on things that frighten(ed) you. Glad to have led you away from fear of the dark, and of death. Not everything in the darkness wants to be there. The things in the dark, they might yearn for the light. They might not be trying to be deliberately harmful to those who wander into their territory. Things that kill may not always do it out of malice. It’s a Savage Garden. Bad things happen that are inexplicable. It’s possible to live in fear, but isn’t living for life itself better?

Being wary is good, but if fear hold you back, it’s freeing to let the unnecessary fears go. Fears that aren’t constructive to living.

ooc; AR has a way of choosing subjects that are difficult and unpacking them, taking the reader along, guiding us through it. Originally it was to work out her own fears, probably, and that’s why the first few novels were so strong.

First of all I wanted to say your blog is my favourite blog on tumblr, and I find your posts to be hilarious. But let’s get to the question. What book do you think is the best VC book and what book do you think is the worst/most disappointing VC book? I want to read all the VC books. I’m currently reading MTD (which I don’t really like) and I wondered what your favourite book in the series is and which you liked the least. As for myself, I can’t choose between IWTV or TVL being my favourite.

omg mine is your favorite? *flails* Thank u! If u love this blog, u love the VC fandom by default.

My fave VC changes over time. When I first started, I was definitely more IWTV, I identified with Claudia, and then Louis. It wasn’t until later that I switched over to Team Lestat. Claudia is very nearly the biological daughter he probably would have had deserved, in a mortal Lestat AU!

When I reread the books now, I see different things than before, now that I’m older. I can see the parenting perspective better now, for example.

I feel like someone just asked me my fave recently and I think I said TVL, bc it’s the one that’s stood the test of time the most for me, probably.

Least favorite also changes over time. I’m a very generous person tho, I can find beauty and salvage elements/quotes/scenes from books, movies, etc, that I otherwise don’t like as a whole. Same is true for VC. Lots of gems tossed in amongst the later canon that you’ll only really appreciate if you excavate them yourself ;]

I wouldn’t call it disappointing per se, but I admit that I didn’t really enjoy Blackwood Farm, I’d say that was my least favorite, consistently. It’s almost a stand-alone novel. Probably the reason I don’t like it as much is bc it’s almost a stand-alone novel.
