“Shoutout to all the role-players who put lots of love, care, and effort into their character(s) and never seem to get recognized for it. Maybe no one’s noticed yet. Maybe you play an unpopular character, or you play a character so popular that you get lost in the shuffle. Maybe you’re just not friends with people who do shoutouts. But the community appreciates what you do, unrecognized role-player, even if the community doesn’t know it. Cheers to you.”
Awwww *u* such high compliments! Much thank. Very appreciate. THIS IS FOR YOU bc u know they totally roleplay too:
gairid‘s headcanon is the inspiration for the shoes ;]
The short answer is:
Which includes RP. You wanna RP? DO IT. We can always use more canon (and OC!) VC characters. Join in! I’m so sporadic with it, I wish I could devote more time to RP than I do but I have this daily chore thing i do called a “job,” very time-consuming, really cuts into my fandom experience grrrrrr…
You want some more? Hit the jump.
Let’s do this in bullet points, shall we?
AR waged war on fanfic in the mid 90′s. It was ugly. It drove the fandom underground and made fanfic very hard to find. Frowny face D:
We try not to tag her in discussions of fanfic or RP, basically, we don’t try to provoke her by making our RP or caches of VC fanfic known. Especially on Facebook, where she’s very active and might see it (and let’s not send her any links to fanfic or RP, etc.)
She’s never seemed to have an issue with RP, specifically. Maybe bc it’s not full-blown fic, and is collaborative? Noone knows. Maybe she’s not aware of it.
On a side topic, she seems to enjoy some fanart, she’s even publicly said she loves garama‘s work (I don’t have the proof rn, but I remember it).
Currently, she doesn’t seem to have an issue with fanfic. She hasn’t made a negative public thing about it other than this:
“…in 2012, Metro reported that Rice has taken a milder stance on the issue: “I got upset about 20 years ago because I thought it would block me,” she said. “However, it’s been very easy to avoid reading any, so live and let live. If I were a young writer, I’d want to own my own ideas. But maybe fan fiction is a transitional phase: whatever gets you there, gets you there.” “
Anything else I have on this subject is in my #war on fanfic tag, and I do try to keep it updated (sometimes other things bleed into that tag, like the ebook-tree.com/.net massive shitstorm around 4/2015)
TL;DR: She seems to have mellowed over time about it, so we can do it, but, just fanwork & play responsibly ❤
It may not look like it, but I try not to get too offensive to her. As difficult as it can sometimes be, we have to admit she did create these characters that have brought us all together, for which I’m endlessly grateful.
“Why hasn’t anyone done any shoutout to nijah yet? Her OCs have the most interesting backstories and her ability to rp canon characters are shockingly accurate. And the mun is a bae. I feel privileged to know her in this community.”
//Goodness, I am touched beyond words. In three days I got three shoutouts all over my blogs. You won’t believe how hard I am trying not to sob right now.
This fandom had been very, very good to me. Especially considering how clumsy my rp and writing skill is. It always give me warmth and strength I need whenever or wherever I return. I enjoy rping here. And I like everyone here.
ooc; May 16, 2012 was the day I decided to make this account. I was a n00b who had just read Interview with the Vampire like two months prior, and was just reading Queen of the Damned at the time. I sucked really bad, but I met some cool people, and ended up sticking around. Three years later, here I am.
So, here we have my whole “wow three years” post. I never made a commemorative thing for hitting 1k followers either, so I just stuck that in with this. I’m not going to do a huge follow forever, since I’ve done so many of those, but I would like to just plug a few wonderful friends that have been super great.
That said, this is a giveaway post. Three people who reblog/like this will receive a promo post by me (example of my stuff here). If you don’t want a promo, I can just make a simple graphic, ten icons, or whatever you’d rather have. I just ask that the winners have patience with me, since my schedule has been insanely busy lately.
The three people who win must be following me, since obviously this is a thank you to my followers. And if you like/reblog this but don’t actually want a graphic and you get picked, let me know and I’ll pick another winner. Also excuse the jokingly shitty graphic on this post. 😉 It was done intentionally bad.
On May 23, I will use a randomizer to pick the winner.
Yours was one of the first RPs I followed here in tumblrland, and your Louis’ general sass and sense of humor definitely influenced my headcanon of him. I still enjoy your threads in ma dash (also when my Lestat is in them gdi he owes a reply i will wrestle him to the ground and force an answer!), like a fine wine, your muse has only gotten better over time.
1. RP is not a competition. You are not auditioning for the role of your muse. You aren’t trying to beat others out. You don’t own your muse or the muses who RP with your muse.* There might be 1 of your muse or 10, and that could number could change tomorrow. It’s not static. If you don’t like it, maybe tumblr RP is not for you.
2. No, seriously, RP is not a contest of any kind. It’s not about who’s “better” (who the hell decides that, anyway?) It’s not a race or a marathon or one of those irritating muddy obstacle courses. Fandom is giant celebration in a giant meadow and there’s room for everyone to play.
3. We are pretending to be vampires on the internet. It’s not serious business. Let’s all make an effort to be good to each other, yeah?
*Obviously you own your OCs, but the part about it not being a competition is still very true. It’s not.
“damnitarmand is such an incredible Armand. Their prose is rich and beautiful and they manage to capture all of the different facets of Armand’s complex and mercurial personality so well. Their writing is always such a pleasure to read.”
//YES. If you are not following them, you should fix that right the hell now. The mun is my writing soul mate so i may be a wee bit biased but this is 100% true.
When I say I try to be the RPer I want others to be, I absolutely don’t mean replying to threads with ninja speed and being on top of your RP tumblr like being Lestat, etc, is your job. (Unless you have managed to make into a job in which case please explain how.) Everyone is busy and has obligations outside of tumblr. If you want to and can reply to things quickly, power to you! If you can’t, it’s not a big deal and anyone who doesn’t think your replies are worth waiting for you is probably not an RP buddy you want.
What I mean is that I try to follow the Golden Rule: treat others as you want to be treated. Which means, essentially, put stuff out there, sending things out, foster interaction, and be open to being sending things to you.
You’ve probably heard about reblog karma. This is a good thing, where if you reblog a meme, you send an ask to the person you reblogged from. Great. But how about instead of reblog karma, you think of it like RP Karma. This is a game that falls apart if everyone sits still and waits for things to come to them.
So for example, if 6 people on my dash post a meme and I have time, whether or not I reblog it, I try to send everyone an ask. Sometimes the memes require thought and I can’t think of a question or ask for everyone and that’s fine. Sometimes I’m busy or on mobile and just can’t get to it. But if I can and and I have time, I make an effort. Especially if it’s a “send a symbol for a headcanon” type meme, just send some out! You can copy and paste the same one into everyone’s box if you want.
Beyond memes, if you think of a question you want to ask, say, Louis. Send it to a Louis you follow. Hell, send it to ALL OF THE LOUIS RPERS! Why not.
Or if someone posts an ask answer or a one liner* your muse has a reaction to, comment on it! React IC! That’s the point. If, say, Armand posts a line like “Banzai trees are hideous!” Lestat can reply that he’s making Banzai the official Coven Tree, Louis can argue that his banzai in Trinity Gate is quite lovely thanks, and Daniel can complain that he has no sense of cultivating something and watching it flourish.
I’m also a fan of reblogging replies you really love or sending people messages to tell them how much you appreciate their work. RP seems to be a hobby where everyone has days they doubt themselves, so a little positivity goes a long way!
TL;DR: Basically, when you have time, energy, and inspiration, put things out there. Reply to other muses’ IC asks & posts, send asks (anon or IC), reblog replies you like, comment on posts, send kudos out through VC Positivity or just in general. Be the RPer you wish everyone else was in terms of what you put out there. Because if you don’t send things out and interact and make RPland a happy place, no one is going to do it for you.
(*Obviously check RPer’s rules and if they don’t want people responding to things IC, heed their wishes.)
^THIS.
Same goes for interaction with fanartist, cosplayers, general fandom ppl, etc. Don’t wait from someone to drop into your inbox, reach out to them! Be the blog you wish to see *u*
“iam-yourqueen has made me look at Akasha in a different light. Before reading her RPs she was simply a maniacal tyrant, hellbent on destruction. Now I see her as a nuanced woman with flaws; with depth and such humanity. She is more than the maddened queen, but a vampire, just like all the others, trying to find her place in the 21st Century.”
