Concerning your 30 Seconds to Mars post… Don’t you think Jared Leto would make a nice ricean vampire? Maybe Louis?

#VC CASTING #WE NEED HIM #Louis de Pointe du Lac #AGREES AGGRESSIVELY

I mean look at this guy he’s Ricean material. He’s a fantastic actor, a chameleon really, with the wide spectrum of roles he’s played. Plus he doesn’t age. So there’s that. Bonus points that he can sing.

Difficulty: Who could be hot enough to be his Lestat?

FMK Armand, Marius, Bianca

This is hard bc tbh I don’t pine for any of the three but OK HERE WE GO:

I can’t marry Bianca because I am a straight lady myself. I don’t think Marius or Armand would fuck or marry me if I killed one of them so… I’m forced into this first choice :-

Kill: Bianca- c’est dommage 😦 But I just don’t want to marry or fuck her so consider it a mercy killing. I would take no pleasure in it whatsoever, but I would have to set it up that I killed her in self-defense, which would be the only acceptable reason to do it, bc I wouldn’t be able to keep it a secret from powerful Mindly Gifted Marius and Armand who would definitely not Fuck or Marry me if they found out about a cold-blooded murder of their dearest Bianca!

Marry: Marius- choosing between him and Armand, overall I’d say Marius is more stable, he’s had long-term relationship experience with women and especially the alpha-personalities-clashing thing which would definitely happen between us. Plus “Burnadette de Romanus” would look great on paper.

Fuck: Armand- I wouldn’t marry Armand because I wouldn’t want him to get too relaxed and stop trying to impress/please me sexually, as sometimes happens in marriages. He’s probably a better lover than Marius, so he’d be my Mister (y’know? Like the way men have ‘mistresses’? Like that!). We’d keep it a secret from Marius bc I feel like canon!Armand would prefer it that way.

The other reason I picked Armand for Fucking privileges is because he knows how to party better than Marius, and I don’t need to prove that by sharing examples bc that’s just CANON.

Which of the major VC character would you say are the most intelligent? I mean, for all the love I have for him, I’d place Lestat on the smart side of average at best. What do you think? What of the others? Your opinion is of paramount importance to me lol

Well my opinion should be of paramount importance to you bc I am in fact highly intelligent. Like off-the-scale. SO SMART.

image

There are different kinds of intelligence, tho. I couldn’t assign IQ numbers, bc those might fluctuate over time, and are not the only/best way to define the nebulous concept that is “intelligence.” So I can’t say which are the most intelligent, but I can describe their types of intelligence. I’ll do my faves first and the rest under a cut like noone is gonna read all this ffs!

Lestat- His experience as a hunter in life and as a vampire made him flexible, resourceful, and inventive/impulsive. His theatre experience gave him improvisational skills, which are useful in negotiation, courtship, and life-of-the-partyness. So I don’t think I can agree with you that that places him “on the smart side of average,” since I’m not considering his intelligence as a notch on a numerical scale. But I’m glad you still love him, even if you rate his intelligence that way! That’s totes fine.

Louis- His love of books is a love of learning and storytelling, a seeking of deeper meanings, an enjoyment of the imagination, so I would say his intelligence lies in his introspective nature. This helps with diplomacy, trying to talk sense into Lestat and others. He’s empathetic, can read people’s poker faces, and hence is an excellent risk-taker in gambling.

Claudia- A planner, she is the best at the old “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” She can plan moves ahead of time, even better than Louis can. She is emotionally manipulative, able to instigate fights between her parents with very little effort on her part.

Hit the jump for more.

David- As the Head of the Talamasca (I forget his exact title okay this is good enough), he must have risen through the ranks for a reason. His unflappability under pressure, his own Mind Gifts even before his turning, and the wisdom and sense of peace that life experience brings, these are all good reasons. He’s one of the only creatures Lestat really listens to, one of the only ones Lestat actually will modify his behavior around, with just a subtle directive. David has brought many talented people into the Order, and trained them for fieldwork. He’s generous to a fault.

Armand- Part of why he disliked Claudia could be subconscious, in that he might have seen some of himself in her (and therefore found another reason for competition with her). He has all her skills and more, with his powerful Mind Gift, he can weave fantastic illusions in the minds of others. But it takes alot of energy to do so. He devours knowledge, seeking the keys to satisfaction, chasing a state of peace that he can never seem to maintain for very long by himself.

Daniel- Like Louis, he is a lover of the written word, making him empathetic to others. As an interviewer, he knew how to “ask the right questions” to get his subjects to open up and reveal more than they might have intended. He also has a great level of patience, which is an enormous virtue in arguments; he can generally keep his cool much longer than his opponent, able to focus on the debate and not resort to cheap personal attacks.

Marius- Obviously a skilled artist, and appreciator of art in humankind and in nature, it has led him to attain a state of peace for the most part. Art as a form of self-expression, he can relieve stress and anxiety by painting another mural or perusing a gallery. This peacefulness makes him a trustworthy mentor to many. In later canon this has faltered somewhat, we can see that he’s shaken by things, he is vulnerable, but like a cat, seems to always land on his feet!

Jesse- A lover of studying and a bold explorer, she had long ago cast aside societal ideals of settling down and making babies. She had a thirst for knowledge and adventure and she pursued both. She had balls in a time when women were congratulated for having them ;]

Gabrielle- Also a bold adventurer, someone with a strong sense of ethics, and decisive, able to hear an argument and cut through all the bullshit right to the heart of the matter.

Nicolas- Mad? Maybe. But also fiercely devoted to the violin. Having that much commitment to the study of an instrument demonstrates a passionate soul. The fact that he was actually talented at it and could “bring the house down” meant that the tireless practicing paid off. He had found the thing that made him happy (as happy as he was capable of being) and found the person he was most happy with (Lestat) and that’s an enormous accomplishment, both are things that some people never achieve in life.

Akasha- Mad? YES. And yet, one could also say she was a hardcore SJW feminist, blind to anything other than the information that would support her own ideas and agenda. At least she did her homework.

Maharet and Mekare- Were the most powerful witches of their time; they had to memorize spells, incantations, they had to learn diplomacy with spirits. Think of the volumes of material they must have had to keep in mind! After turning, Maharet kept records of their family tree, an enormous task, but it was well worth it in the interest of feeling like she still belonged to something larger than herself, which brought her peace. She helped her family when possible, financially or otherwise. Great empathy there.

My confession, since I began reading the VC I am somehow not afraid of the dark anymore and I found out that I can deal with death better now.

♛I told Gabrielle, “We are the things that others fear, Remember that.” It’s an empowering concept.

I always had a high tolerance for what others consider distasteful, but it definitely escalated after I was turned. I threw up my own blood and then found myself relishing the taste of it, licking it off the stone floor near a pile of dead bodies that resembled me! I scooped up a rat and studied its paws in front of retail people!

I’m glad to have shed light on things that frighten(ed) you. Glad to have led you away from fear of the dark, and of death. Not everything in the darkness wants to be there. The things in the dark, they might yearn for the light. They might not be trying to be deliberately harmful to those who wander into their territory. Things that kill may not always do it out of malice. It’s a Savage Garden. Bad things happen that are inexplicable. It’s possible to live in fear, but isn’t living for life itself better?

Being wary is good, but if fear hold you back, it’s freeing to let the unnecessary fears go. Fears that aren’t constructive to living.

ooc; AR has a way of choosing subjects that are difficult and unpacking them, taking the reader along, guiding us through it. Originally it was to work out her own fears, probably, and that’s why the first few novels were so strong.

yes, yes I meant that! OMG here I go: FMK, Luis, Lestat, Gabrielle :3

Well you’ve left me a convenient little loophole in your misspelling! Who is this “Luis?” I don’t know him, hopefully he’s an evildoer… bc I have to throw one of them under the bus.

image

Kill: Luis! Bc you misspelled his name I can pretend it’s someone else entirely bwahahahaa…. (If this were our actual beloved Louis, perfect-cinnamon-roll-too-good-for-this-world, I don’t think I could kill him, I doubt Lestat would want to fuck OR marry me after doing that. If you really insist it’s OUR LOUIS, I’ll have to revise all my answers.)

Fuck: Lestat, bc of reasons, no, really, bc he must be super talented in the bedroom (or the kitchen, or the alleyway, or the floor, wherever there’s a good solid surface really). I probably couldn’t keep up the kind of energy requirement he would need tho. He’s studied the Kama Sutra. He’d probably end up killing me… exhaustion-related death… Death by ecstasy? The French call the orgasm ‘La petite mort”; “the Little Death.” I imagine this would be like the Big Death *swoons*

Marry: Gabrielle. Honestly she seems like a good roommate (when she is around), we’d probably share similar taste in literature and such, she’s taller than me but we might be able to share some wardrobe staples. I like that it could sometimes be a long-distance marriage, she can go off exploring and I’ll hold down the fort. I’m sure the marriage would be an open one, platonic between us since I am a straight gal, and considering I’d fucked her son. She doesn’t want his leftovers 😛 even as excellent as this leftover would be if this leftover survived it ;D

#and like what so sad about this moment #actually #is that Lestat is learning smtg new here #that laudanum has a real effect on him #but he has not yet realized that Claudia aint playin #she has tactically weakened him #this is not in fact funtimes

That is bizarre! Anyway, there IS a Denis in the book. Also I think Denis was too young to be Armand? Armand was supposed to be around 17, and Denis looks more like 13-14 to me.

Not sure exactly whose theory it was (mine? whiningforcenturies? Both probably), but someone suggested that Antonio was actually Santino posing as Armand. Hence the not-teenage, not-red-head, not-cherubic appearance.

image

I have a whole pile of theories about Antonio’s casting here: #Defending Antonio.

^Lookit this loyal cutie omg ❤ This is kind of an Armand expression, the lack of surprise in an under-pressure situation, the stiff upper-lip.

That carriage is really rockin’. Don’t come a’knockin’. GDI Armand it’s wildly unfair to take advantage of a man who is turned on by the arson he’s just committed!

There were some comments on my post about Denis and basically, my feeling is that Denis was treated very well. He had a nice normal bed (looks like queen sized!), yes, he was locked in there, but who’s to say that the bars holding him in weren’t really meant to keep the other vampires in the Theatre OUT? It would be easy enough to get to Armand by torturing his pet; he needed protection.

We don’t know Denis’ backstory. Maybe Armand rescued him from a worse life, as Armand had been rescued by Marius. Maybe Armand was “paying it forward.”

We know Armand didn’t really click with any of the vampires in the Theatre. So why not have a little mortal companion who might love him unconditionally? We keep cats and dogs for similar reasons. We keep chickens and rabbits as pets knowing that we’re well some of us are capable of eating them someday. A human is another level of domesticated pet for a vampire!

Now the fact that Armand killed Denis does seem cruel at first glance, but it was probably because Armand had found what he longed for in Louis, a vampire companion. Hanging out with vampires for too long can distort your reality (just ask Daniel Molloy, lol) so Armand killing Denis was probably a mercy. What would have happened with that kid otherwise? Would he have tried to find Armand? Would he have killed himself anyway? If Armand didn’t want to turn or keep him, maybe Denis asked for death.

These things are worth considering before you judge Armand as being cruel to Denis.

I was wondering, as the mother hen of the fandom on this site, do you think Armand and Daniel ever loved each other? Or that they were both trying to take advantage of their relationship (Armand to learn about the modern world and to be less lonely and Daniel to achieve immortality)?

Mother hen! More like mother swaaaan. They are prettier and seriously badass. I was bitten by one when I was little. They don’t f*ck around.

image

Did Armand and Daniel ever love each other??!! omg what kind of an unfair question! Yes they did! YES, YES, YES THEY DID. AND MAYBE STILL DO. DEPENDING ON THE HOUR AND THEIR RESPECTIVE CRANKY LEVELS.

~What is love? Baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more.~

Initially yes, Daniel just wanted to vampire. He went looking for Lestat for that, and found Armand instead. Sparks flew, and he became fascinated by Armand, probably more than he was with Louis. And Armand seemed equally fascinated by Daniel. There was a macabre kind of chemistry there, a mutual attraction.

[Hit the jump for more, but really, go ask an Armand and a Daniel! I ship them, but admittedly, they are not my main ship.]

What even is a relationship? Every relationship is built and defined by the people who are in it. Armand could have hired a personal assistant if all he wanted was a tutor/travel agent. Armand wanted DANIEL. Daniel’s wit, his rebelliousness, his charm, his inquisitive nature, all these things made Daniel more appealing as a companion.

On his deathbed, Daniel wanted immortality to be with Armand, not just for eternity alone. The fact that they may or may not be “together” in canon right now doesn’t mean they didn’t share something very loving and special, and it doesn’t mean they don’t still consider each other fondly. Some breakups can be mended, some can’t. Some exes can be friends. Some can’t. That’s life.

Do certain weather conditions bother the VC vampires? Like very cold weather or very hot weather? Does it effect them like it would effect a human?

Ooooh #Vampire physiology (sending the vampire bat signal out to fellow Ricean vampire authority vampchronfic and for the non-Ricean vampires, askavampirologist).

In short, they can handle much colder temps than mortals can. Their default temperature is cold, and it seems like they prefer to be warm, since they’re only really hot right after a fresh feeding >;}

Louis has mentioned in canon that he dislikes the cold but he insists on wearing threadbare sweaters, it seems to be a form of self-punishment (and murder-husband-punishment since he knows Lestat doesn’t approve of the constant 90’s grunge/Derelicte look).

It’s not discussed in canon in huge detail, and I’m sure it varies vampire-to-vampire, so I’ll just give you Louis and Lestat answers.

In IWTV Louis would wander around, “standing in the rain like a zombie until your clothes are drenched and you smell like old wardrobe trunks in attics and have the look of a baffled idiot at the zoo.” This was probably warm rain, being NOLA. He might have been so transfixed with his new senses that he didn’t mind what might be uncomfortable for us/other vampires. Lestat certainly didn’t approve bc like “i buy you such beautiful outfits and you put them on WIRE HANGERS *ahem* no, actually, you go ruining them in the RAAAAAINNN.” *sulk*

When Lestat flies, he doesn’t mention needing to get extra bundled-up to deal with the colder air  altho i like the idea of him looking for the BIGGEST WARMEST FUR-LINED PARKAS so that when he takes to the air w/ Louis, he can cocoon them together bc awwwww…-

They seemed to enjoy the humidity and heat of NOLA. I imagine that they’re like big cats or lizards, always looking for warm spots to lounge around in to deal with their default coldness. Lestat’s always been a big fan of lighting all the candles in a room for the light, which might also be for the warmth; even one candle adds a surprising amount of heat.

Of course Louis, the pyromaniac, is really in an OTP with Fire, that should tell you smtg about the kinda temperature he prefers! ❤

What kind of poetry do the VC vampires like? Vampires like Lestat, Armand, Louis, and Marius. Or any other vampires you want to add. Which poet are they fans of?

image

[text from here] [devilsfool helped me w/ this answer]

I am actually a terrible resource for this question bc I… *gasp* do not really ‘get’ a lot of poetry! I only really like a few poets… like Shel Silverstein (he can be very adult and subversive, btw), Dr. Seuss (who tucked the richness of political/other messages into his works), and other “children’s” authors

yes don’t even think of mocking me on that ok i like what i like, and tbh I headcanon that Lestat has a passion for these, too, since he never got bedtime stories with illustrations as a child (and it’s why he read bedtime stories/poetry to Claudia well beyond the time when she could read to herself bc he loved impressing her with acting out the voices).

  • HOWEVER. I do love me some Shakespeare, and I think that counts as poetry, and Lestat loves him some Shakespeare, too. That’s canon. He mentions Keats in TOBT as he’s refurbishing the Rue Royale “Ah, wasn’t  it the ode by Keats which had inspired that long-ago purchase? Where  had the urn gone?” He also mentions Milton in that book. IDK if he read them but he came into possession of a collection of poetry by Wynken de Wilde in MtD.
  • Book-IWTV!Lestat is not wild about books of poetry, ditching Louis one night with a cruel little snap: “Read your damn poems, then! Rot!”
  • Lestat also considers music lyrics to “count” as poetry and might get all excited about a new track by Kanye WestEminem or Macklemore. I think he’d be especially drawn to freestyle rap battles.
  • Louis quotes from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, so I would assume he liked (at least at that time) that kind of story/poetry: macabre, dealing with religion v. nature undertones
  • I see Marius as liking the quirky poetry in the New Yorker, and Stan Rice’s free-form style, as he likes to study emerging trends in thoughts.
  • David Talbot likes Blake, the Tyger features in his… trajectory, shall we say.

…The rest I leave up to annabellioncourt,

devilsfool, fyeahgothicromance, gothiccharmschool, and duendology, who are probably better resources on this topic. Oh, and of course, anyone else who sees this and has an opinion please feel free to reblog/comment ;D
