Can you list a few modern professions you feel Lestat would have, if he chose to work?

The Stark is strong in this one…

TBH I think they sometimes DO try out jobs for fun, Undercover Boss-style. They also challenge each other to take on crappy/difficult jobs and see who can last the longest…

(Armand doesn’t like doing this bc ppl assume he’s one of the bosses’ kids or an intern. He deliberately spills coffee on their workstations for such offensive thoughts.)

Lestat’s diary entry: “Night 3 at Jamba Juice, Armand shows no sign of weakness. I MUST NOT QUIT BEFORE HE DOES”

For serious thoughts on Lestat’s choice of serious jobs, hit the jump.

Lestat is curious about a lot of modern jobs, many of which didn’t even exist in his mortal life, and has probably charmed his way into many, just to try them out. Here’s a list of jobs he might like, if he chose to work (and I use the term “work” very loosely with him):

  1. Musician – of all possible jobs, I think he would be happiest going under a pseudonym, as a trust-fund baby, in a hipster-ish 80’s cover band… doing Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and the Vampire Lestat (tee hee!) hits. Often, he’d reinterpret/rearrange these songs based on the abilities of the other musicians in his band, and for a musical challenge. People comment on his resemblance to the “real” Lestat, and he’s always nonchalant on the surface, but in truth deeply flattered that they remember the “real” one at all ;A;
  2. Antique or jewelry appraiser/ art curator – we know he is a lover of furniture and having lived through some of the eras (and with his enhanced senses) he would instantly know a fake from the real thing.
  3. Fashion designer – a true clothes-horse and fabric- and trimmings-enthusiast! but would probably never touch a needle or sewing machine himself. He would probably be happiest at D & G or Versace, where glamour meets risque and/or comedy.
  4. Advertising – He’s the Don Draper of vampires, no? He can sell anything to anyone. MIND GIFT.
  5. Chocolatier – he may not be able to taste it, but he can smell it. He could employ tasters. He’d certainly go all-out with the packaging.
  6. Writer/Illustrator– well, he already does this, but he should really have more of a presence at Comicon, no? He’s got a hidden drawing talent that even he doesn’t know about.
  7. Driving instructor – probably not a good idea to take lessons from him on this, but I bet he would enjoy doing it, scaring the hell out of the student drivers and everyone else on the road!
  8. Yoga instructor – He is flexible. He’d probably get alot out of seeing his students in spandex. Could he teach relaxation? Probably not.
  9. Florist – Louis I brung u les fleurs! He does love flowers. ALOT.
  10. French teacher – he wouldn’t suffer any plaisantins in his class repeatedly asking him to tell them the French word for “seal.” It’s le phoque, pronounced like, “leh fuck.” My poor French teacher from Belgium didn’t know American slang…
  11. Manny – a male nanny. Very hip on the Upper West Side here in NY. Lestat does love kids. He is great with them, for the most part. Until they decide he doesn’t know how to parent and they try to assassinate him.
  12. Private detective – he already uses his mind gift powers to hunt for bad guys, why not get paid for it, too? Difficulty level: Can’t eat the bad guys. Must turn over to law enforcement, no snacking on the job.
  13. Translator – Difficulty level: actually translating what the speaker is saying/writing WITHOUT mischievously adding/subtracting anything and causing an international war through miscommunication!

kristartpher:

“Such a messy eater.”

“It’s only lipstick, Cherie, I promise.”

My offering to the vc fandom and it’s queen ( i-want-my-iwtv ), a quick Lestat, pose referenced from a photo of Marilyn Monroe. I’d like to clean it up and color him eventually…

Hey, what kind of music does everybody listen to?…

@aganmagdalene said: This is fantastic! I feel that it’s all so accurate it hurts, especially regarding Marius lol.

Thank you! Comments like these make it all worth it *u*

hyperbeeb said: tbh i always thought Louis would be into The Used. After 200+ years, he finally found some musicians that truly spoke to the emotions he feels

Ha! You have a good point there. A pointy point. #Headcanon accepted.

XD I know right??! Guilty pleasure.

lestatemperorofthedead: Bet Louis’ favourite song from Hozier is Arsonists Lullaby…

Hey, what kind of music does everybody listen to?…

That’s one of the details I did like about the QOTD movie; I don’t remember Lestat taking earphones/buds into his coffin in any of the later books, but he did in the film, and I can absolutely see him doing that, and forgetting them often.

annabellioncourt:

i-want-my-iwtv:

Yep, agreed. Since you mentioned movie!QOTD, I was reminded of Time Warner Cable’s eloquent synopsis of it:

image

Riiiiight he unites with his counterpart, Akasha. RIGHT. That’s not what I’d call her.

#i bet lestat has also put sound systems into coffins and the coffin makers are like#WHUT#and hes like#its for an art piece#yeah#ART

That’s beautiful.

Honestly, the song Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks to me as a song represents the fabulousness of Lestat. I don’t know, whenever I hear that song I just feel like all of his antics go with that song’s level of energy. Lestat is fierce and even though he’s a Brat Prince he’s still fabulous. I also think that song has a bit of sass in it which I always thought Lestat had in spades.

I have to agree with you on that. It’s a very ballsy anthem, a very, “I may not know everything about this world, but when I get knocked down, hell if I’m gonna let it keep me down!”

There’s a mention of a guy in it, and it’s easy to see this as a young and fragile Lestat:

He was no more
(He was no more)
Than a baby then
Well, he seemed broken hearted
Somethin’ within him
But the moment
That I first laid
Eyes on him
All alone on the edge of seventeen

He’s only ever wanted to be loved, if you look at all the instances of him Doing the Thing, it was in pursuit of that goal. Religion taught him that to be loved, you must be Good. The idea is that Goodness makes one worthy of love, even when his religious beliefs have waned. The trouble is that his formative years were a confusing series of neglect and abuse (with little love from Gabrielle), the first real love he ever really shared was probably with Nicolas. And that ended pretty badly ;A;

So he still struggles with how to love (and not merely possess), and be loved (allow people to love him).

In the book (interview with the vampire) I know that Louis had a brother named Paul but didn’t he also have a sister? And in the book does he ever mention his mother or father? I can’t recall.

Yes, he had a brother Paul

image

[Young Man Sketching. William Bruce Ellis Ranken]

  • Louis’ brother: “He had the smoothest skin and the largest blue eyes. He was robust, not thin as I am now and was then” (IWTV) Not sure whether it’s canon or fanon but Paul was supposedly blond. He was 15 when he died, right after an argument in which Louis had laughed at him, had not believed him, and so, felt responsible for Paul’s death.

  • Louis’ sister: Unnamed (it’s fanon that her name is Henriette “Minette“ de Pointe du Lac), she played the harpsichord. After Paul died “My sister went to bed rather than face the funeral… People in society asked my sister offensive questions about the whole incident, and she became an hysteric. She wasn’t really an hysteric. She simply thought she ought to react that way, so she did…  I did come to know my sister, forbidding her the plantation for the city life which she so needed in order to know her own time of life and her own beauty and come to marry, not brood for our lost brother or my going away or become a nursemaid for our mother.”
  • Louis’ mother: Unnamed (it’s fanon that her name is

Paulette de Pointe du Lac) Louis didn’t seem to have a great relationship with his mother. When Paul died, “my mother told everyone in the parish that something horrible had happened in my room which I would not reveal; and even the police questioned me, on the word of my own mother.”

  • Louis’ father: Unnamed (it’s fanon that his name is

Aurestile Jean Michel Pointe du Lac) At the beginning of IWTV, Louis is 25, his father is dead and Louis “was head of the family and I had to defend [Paul] constantly from my mother and sister.” Defend him from their trying to get him to go out and have fun; but Paul was committed to the Bible.

Let’s play 5 questions…

♛Lestat laces his fingers together, stretches his arms out forward, and hunkers down with his laptop beside Louis on a small loveseat, purposely squeezing their bodies tightly together as he does so, in order to respond to paint-it-livid’s questions (thank u!)

“Louis my love, help me answer these questions, for I do so value your perspective.”

1 – What was the last song you listened to?

Lestat says: “Peter Gabriel – My Body is a Cage”

“This is a positively haunting cover of an Arcade Fire song, and when I first heard it, it brought me immediately to tears. So I played it for Louis just now, and… nothing. No reaction! He must prefer the original version because it’s an excellent song and he should have reacted appropriately.” Lestat huffs, glances at Louis, they silently debate for some long moments whether to play the song again. Louis rolls his eyes and the song is not played again.

2 – What’s getting on your nerves right now?

Pondering this, Lestat flicks a fang. So many minor things. “Louis keeps making stacks of books and periodicals and it’s like walking around a little doll set of skyscrapers, he’s forcing me to nag him about picking up after himself.”

Louis adds: “Well, half of those stacks are actually your piano and guitar chord books, which you piled up, dearest.”

“Touché.”

3 – Most visited website?

“This is an easy one. Youtube. I can be satisfied with hours of music, and see musicals and other performances we might otherwise not be able to attend, so many travel videos during sunlight to enjoy…” Lestat trails off, a wistful look in his eye.

Louis adds: “Those are good, we do spend alot of time on that site. He also loves tutorials. Particularly the fashion and

makeup variety. And he tests the techniques on me, when I’m in the mood for it.”

“Especially the Guyliner, Louis!” Lestat elbows him, attempting to impress Louis with the slang.

“Yes, calm down, I’m aware of the term.”

4 – Do you believe in love at first sight?

They exchange a glance. “Bien sûr!” Lestat said, quite sure of himself.

Louis adds: “I never believed in it before meeting Lestat, and even then, I was so out of… not myself… that I wasn’t sure then if it was love I felt for him or just a simple desire to hold and keep him with me, for as long as possible.”

“Is that not love, my love?”

“I was under duress at the time.”

“Was some of that duress my charming self, my love?”

Louis sighs softly, a smile growing across his face. “I suppose it qualifies.”

Lestat smirks, more than a little triumphantly.

5 – Which is better: hugs or kisses?

“Oh, they both have their benefits, to be sure,” Lestat considers, snaking his arm around Louis and giving him a gentle squeeze. “They’re different forms of intimacy… hugs are more for greeting and departure…would snuggling count as a form of hugging? Because I definitely require that.”

“Snuggling is… probably considered hugging, it’s bodies held together, no?”

“Oui, that it is, very scientific of you, Dr. de Pointe du Lac.” Lestat teases, assuming a stern expression and tone before breaking into a smile.

“But kissing has a language of its own, it’s about appreciation, reverence, a deeper connection…” Lestat eyes Louis’ lips as he speaks, growing more than a little interested.

“Kissing need not only be on the mouth, you know,” Lestat says, before making a trail of light kisses starting at Louis’ ear, tracing down the jawline. Louis twists, offering more access.

Louis smiles coquettishly at Lestat, pulling him closer: “Hugs or kisses? But why not both?

Did Louis actually visit Lestat in IWTV when Lestat went back to New Orleans to rot in his house? Because Lestat didn’t mention that Louis had visited him in “The vampire lestat”. Lestat only said that Armand visited him and that he knew that Louis was in New Orleans. Thanks for clearing up :)

Ooooh good question! In IWTV, Louis says that he did visit Lestat (and it was in the movie).

image

We actually don’t know if it happened :-

  1. book!IWTV has Louis following a young vampire to Lestat’s door.
  2. In the Tale of the Body Thief, Lestat says it never happened.

We have discrepancy in canon. Your headcanon may be that it happened, and someone else’s may be that it didn’t. With Louis’ book, was he telling his tale to try to call out Lestat? Maybe he knew that inventing a scene like this might provoke Lestat to respond. If so, it worked, Lestat wrote TVL as a response to IWTV. Also, Louis told his story to Daniel, who then had to send it to his editor(s), so maybe it was invented by someone other than Louis for whatever reason.

So who do I believe? Umm, I don’t think Louis is a liar, and I don’t think anyone invented it. Lestat has said, “I never lie, at least not to those I don’t love.” which means that he DOES lie to those he loves.

I’m going w/ Louis on this and saying that it happened as Louis described it.

1. Book!IWTV:

“Because shortly after that I saw a vampire in New Orleans, a sleek white-faced young man walking alone on the broad sidewalks of St. Charles Avenue…” (this mystery vampire kills a woman and takes her baby to a shabby old house where he meets up with another vampire) “My eyes widened as I studied this stooped and shivering vampire whose rich blond hair hung down in loose waves covering his face… I saw clearly, unmistakably, the profile of Lestat, that smooth skin now devoid of even the faintest trace of his old scars.”

BTW, it’s implied that that young vampire was one of Lestat’s own fledglings (another mystery fledgling?!):

`You all leave me!’ he whined now in a thin, high-pitched voice.“

(Louis taps at the window)

…” `It’s Louis! Louis!’ he said. `Let him in’ And he gestured frantically, like an invalid, for the young `nurse’ to obey. … and I could see the tears welling in his eyes…How baffling and awful it was, this smoothfaced, shimmering immortal man bent and rattled and whining like a crone.”

2. HOWEVER…

In Tale of the Body Thief, Lestat calls Louis a liar, and I think he’s referring to the whole visit scene:

“Ah, that makes you out to be a perfect liar,” I said furiously. “You described my weeping in your miserable memoir in a scene which we both know did not take place!”

So IF the vampires from the VC could have sex with humans and other vampires what would their sexual styles be or what would their sexual history be. Vampires like Lestat, Louis, Armand, and Marius.

Sexual styles and history vary so much depending on the ship, whether they’re mortal or immortal, the age of the character, and so many different factors…

What your really asking is about relationship dynamics, the balance of power, the level of dependency on eachother, the amount of trust, how often they’re even in the mood, etc. All those things fluctuate over time.

Lestat wanted to answer this in a snarky way but I’ll try anyway:

Lestat

  • Style w/ mortals: He’s always enjoyed taking the Little Drink while snuggling after sex, or during. This is how he can get away with having innocent blood now and then, as a treat. He tends to top.
  • Style w/ Louis: In the past, he would have to get Louis so worked up with foreplay that he’s completely begging for the D, or blood, or both. Currently, Lestat loves it when Louis takes control and bosses him around.
  • History: There’s fanon out there that suggests he was sexually abused as a child, well into his teens. I think that would help explain his difficulty in learning how to love properly, as he comes across as overly sexually demanding (like literally throwing himself on Louis), at least in movie!IWTV.

Louis:

  • Style w/ mortals: Louis doesn’t have sex with mortals (except one OC that I won’t mention YET AGAIN) bc he doesn’t get that close to mortals. But he does get crushes on them occasionally, like Babette Freneire.
  • Style w/ Lestat: See above. In the past, Louis was conflicted in his feelings for Lestat, his first (or second) male lover, and would prefer Lestat to be the aggressor, and then punish himself later for enjoying it. Currently, Louis especially enjoys calling/sexting Lestat during business meetings and getting him painfully turned on.
  • History: There’s fanon out there that suggests Louis had one male lover before Lestat, but for the most part, his sexual history was just getting drunk and sleeping with prostitutes. He had issues equating sex with love, it took him a long time to learn it, and is now very comfortable with expressing his feelings sexually.

Armand: (I really should leave this to the Armand and Daniel RPers)(BUT I CANNOT LEAVE A QUESTION UNANSWERED IT IS A PERSONAL FLAW)

  • Style w/ mortals: Armand doesn’t have sex with mortals unless he’s sharing them with Daniel. Armand wouldn’t kill these, he makes sure they get home safely.
  • Style w/ vampires: I would imagine that Armand was a generous lover with Louis, almost always the one to initiate. Currently he can be a bossy bottom, and likes it when his lovers initiate.
  • History: he was in brothels as a mortal, and it took him some time to learn to trust others. Marius was his first loving relationship, and Armand was rebellious then, seemingly unable to accept gentleness, because of his past.

Marius:

(I really should leave this to the Armand and Marius RPers)(BUT I CANNOT LEAVE A QUESTION UNANSWERED IT IS A PERSONAL FLAW)

  • Style w/ mortals: Marius has occasionally slept with the models he paints. He is always in control of anything that happens.
  • Style w/ vampires: Marius has occasionally slept with the models he paints. He is always in control of anything that happens.

  • History: We don’t have much canon support for Marius’ sexual history, but he did have a long term ship with Pandora in which he was unable to get it up on their wedding night but y’know, performance issues, it’s not uncommon. One out of five…
