I think rejecting completly an actor for a rumor ( that nobody have ever heard before and just can barely find any information ) is pretty extreme. Leto is a very dedicated and hard-working actor, he have gone to the point of being on a wheelchair just to get a character right. And is a very talented musician. I not even a fan of him, but I do have a lot of respect for his work, and I feel people should give him a chance.

FYI: I am 100% done with this topic and I’m deleting ALL future Asks about it. All. Even if he is cast in the new movie.

There are many places where this topic can be discussed, but it is NOT appropriate on a blog that is here to highlight a certain fandom and is focused on entertainment, and where I do my best to keep it politically-neutral, fair-minded, and civil. That is my prerogative on my own blog.

To address your points, which are hopefully more naive than trolling for a fight:

  • An actor’s/musician’s dedication to – or quality of – their craft does not eliminate the possibility that they committed crimes of repeated acts of sexual abuse of underage women. Combined with fame, acting skills and musicianship could in fact make someone a more dangerous predator. We’ve seen this happen far too often just in the last decade in the film and music industries.
  • The fact that we can barely find any information about these accusations could mean that the crimes are being covered up by his PR agents or whoever else, not that the crimes did not occur.
  • The fact that we are only now hearing about these accusations could mean any number of things, such as the victims could not come forward sooner, as is the case with many victims of this type of crime. Fear of their attacker is one possible reason; many victims are threatened into silence until they gain enough emotional support and are able to come forward with the truth.
  • If being “extreme” is my rationally stating my own opinion that I wouldn’t cast him if it were up to me, ok, I’m being “extreme.”

So I will restate for the 3rd time what I’ve stated 2x: Currently I don’t want a Leto!Lestat bc true or false, we don’t need that kind of baggage in our fandom, and:

There are PILES of younger actors out there who can play Lestat bc Boone wants this to be a trilogy w/ TV spinoffs and we need someone who can play 20 or 21 yrs old for a long time, and Leto altho he does not look like it is 44 yrs old.

Senpai!!! IS IT TRUE THAT THEY ARE MAKING A REMAKE WITH JARED LETO AS LESTAT??!!! should we accept this?? what do you think??

WE DON’T KNOW WHO IS CAST AS LESTAT YET THAT IS STILL SPECULATION, MY FANGED LITTLE TRASH KITTEN.

image

Josh Boone (who is adapting TVL & he intends to do two more after that) tweeted about that back in May of 2016* but there has been no confirmation or denial from Leto or anyone else about it. So it’s ~speculation~

It was just announced that Leto is in Blade Runner 2, so he’ll probly be all tied up w/ that and not in stepping into Lestat’s boots and red-velvet cape!:

“Leto will join Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, and Ana de Armas when Blade Runner 2 hits theaters October 6th, 2017.” [X]

*Although I may have acted somewhat excited about it a few months ago (and I don’t want to edit the post bc that’s a time capsule as to how I felt then), currently I don’t want a Leto!Lestat bc of the accusations against Leto, which you can google yourself bc I’m NOT going there. True or false, we don’t need that kind of baggage in our fandom, and there are PILES of younger actors out there who can play Lestat bc Boone wants this to be a trilogy w/ TV spinoffs and we need someone who can play 20 or 21 yrs old for a long time, and Leto altho he does not look like it is 44 yrs old.

Your post on Leto bore a waffling tone in which you seemed to feign a thin scrim of concern. The Reddit post you cited employed victim-blaming language. To pity a rapist’s stunted career is not an obligation anyone should be expected to shoulder. To accuse an underage victim of being a gold-digger is not a mark of a person sincerely concerned with the interests of anyone but the rapist. And to call real-life rape or assault ‘non-con’ is to belittle actual, lived experiences with fictional terms.

After
careful consideration, I decided to delete that post and I asked
those who reblogged it to delete it also. If there are any reblogs or
screencaptures still posted, I disown them.

The way I
expressed my opinion may have hindered my intended message, to clarify:

I
have no pity for a confirmed rapist; I have great empathy for the
victims of any abuse; and I deeply respect the pain of their real
life experience.

This
is an issue beyond the scope of a fandom blog. I deleted the post because
I had not appreciated the hurt it might cause when I expressed myself
in the style that I did, along with citing the Reddit article, and I DO NOT endorse James Barbour in any shape or
form. I cited it so anyone could begin their own research on the subject. I realized that my overall treatment is not how I want to
approach this issue.

I
do apologize for my style of writing in that post; a heavy topic like
this demanded a more serious tone, and I attempted to add a little
levity since that is my naturally optimistic disposition. What appeared to be waffling was my attempt to present both sides of the issue without choosing a side, which I do not feel confident enough to do at this point with the information on hand. The use of the word “noncon” was an abbreviation for “non-consensual” which is a word used out in the world at large (I also abbreviate “people” to “ppl,” which is not a standard abbreviation, and I abbreviate out of the habit of writing on a fandom blog; it was not intended to belittle anyone’s experiences). I can understand why all of those things could be offensive to others and I am sorry for any hurt
that may have caused.

There
are many places where this topic can be discussed, but I don’t think that
it is appropriate on a blog that is here to highlight a certain
fandom and is focused on entertainment, and where I do my best to keep it politically-neutral, fair-minded, and civil. That is my prerogative on my own blog.

The guilt or innocence of the accused rests with the judicial system. As citizens, we have limited access to all the facts.

I
hope this clarifies and terminates this dialogue.

I found an article with Jared Leto being the new Lestat. I think every Vampire Chronicles fan is dying of excitement right now X)

The fandom is currently dying of excitement or misery or something inbetween! It’s only been ONE DAY since Josh Boone tweeted that pic of Jared Leto with the caption “Lestat – there can be only one.” and I’ve already seen tons of support and tons of hate for this possible casting choice.

Let underscore that.

this possible casting choice.

From the article: “Well, he may very well have his next role already lined-up, as the new vampire Lestat.”

“Not only did Boone reveal the upcoming film, he Tweeted a photo of Leto with the caption “Lestat – there can only be one. #JaredLeto .” Leto will be starring in the role originally played by Tom Cruise in the 1994 classic.”

^Despite the last line thrown in there by the author, who has not provided any other evidence than the tweet, we don’t know if it’s official yet. @cloudsinvenice informs us that the pic is NOT Josh Boone playing dressup with Leto to make him into their version of Lestat; it was from Leto’s instagram, March 2015:

NOW, if I was Josh Boone, I wouldn’t tweet something like that with such a bold statement unless:

  • A. I had already been talking w/ Leto about it and he was interested, or
  • B. I wanted to get Leto’s attention on the project and see if he was into it.

EITHER WAY… Let’s all be cautiously optimistic. I’m not saying I’m 100% convinced yet but Leto has alot going for him:

  • He is currently very hot and he doesn’t age.
  • He is an actual rockstar and has all the singing and stage presence that goes with that.
  • Did you see him in Alexander?? Is this not what happened? He’s willing and able to bring the sensuality to the role that we could never have before *u*

As utterly repungant as I find his behavior on the set of Suicide Squad he does have a few traits that I had hoped for in an actor playing Lestat

He’s an older actor, but not old. Lestat is supposed to be around 20 years old physically, but really requires an actor of experience to play him well.

He can sing, like, this guy is the main part of 30 Seconds to Mars, and here’s a nice Lestat song they’ve done.

So we might actually get a soundtrack out of this, that might be decent. (Remember how despite its myriad of failings, Queen of the Damned had a fun record to go along with it, including a fake website for Lestat’s band?)

I mean he has the slimmer/lithe build that Lestat is often headcannon’ed to have?

I’m still scared, still worried, but then again….I mean Tom Fucking Cruise played Lestat and killed it. I don’t want to pass too much judgement until we know more

^Agreed on all counts.

Concerning your 30 Seconds to Mars post… Don’t you think Jared Leto would make a nice ricean vampire? Maybe Louis?

#VC CASTING #WE NEED HIM #Louis de Pointe du Lac #AGREES AGGRESSIVELY

I mean look at this guy he’s Ricean material. He’s a fantastic actor, a chameleon really, with the wide spectrum of roles he’s played. Plus he doesn’t age. So there’s that. Bonus points that he can sing.

Difficulty: Who could be hot enough to be his Lestat?
