My RL best friend is a foodie and she is gonna laugh her ass off at my vivid display of foodieism below but OH WELL.
If I had to choose, the Oreo pie at the Court of the Two Sisters in NOLA one of my absolute faves, and it is very cake-like. I wish I had a pic but I generally just do not take pics of my food so i guess i will have to go back there! While I love a slab of NYC cheesecake, after the first few bites, I need help finishing it bc it’s so homogeneous. The Oreo pie has all the stuff I like best: cream filling, crumbly dark chocolate, vanilla, various textures.
Best pie I ever had was apple pie in the middle of nowhere in Arizona. With a big scoop of melty vanilla bean ice-cream. The apples inside still had a little bite to them, and they floated in the yummy congealed filling. Flaky toasted crust. It was pretty awesome. But then again we were starving, so it might have been the old “Hunger is the best sauce” effect 😉
Plus, there is a fic floating around out there that mentions this specific type of NOLA pastry, called the “King Cake,” and henceforth Lestat has the nickname “Babycakes.”
This interview… I’m sharing it bc I feel so much second-hand embarrassment for Tom whenever I watch it which is not often but I found it again today so I’m posting it here for… reasons. He shares this story, without hardly being prompted, about cutting off the oxygen of one of his passengers while in flight (starts at 2:32). Watching it, I just keep feeling, “Tom, no, stahp plz, oh gawds… begging you… FIRST OF ALL WHY WOULD U DO THAT?? Second of all, WHY WOULD U OFFER THAT STORY UP – I can’t even with you sometimes… You are in serious need of non-sexual corporal punishment.”
But the story is a very Lestat thing to do and it’s a very Lestatuesque way to tell it, as he’s cracking up, with what can only be described as manic laughter. He keeps hiding his face probably bc he knows he’s dug himself in too deep with this story, but he has to keep going, even though he probably knows he can only make it worse.

laugh, it is certainly… well, impressive (I’m being polite here). And to be honest,
I think he was kinda scary/manic at this time (if, as I think, the interview is
from late 90’s – mid 2000’s), even if I’m too young to remember that properly (but
you know, I did my homework).
I definitely agree with you on the lestatique attitude, the more I
think about it the more he looks like a brat for me ; sometimes charming, sometimes totally out of control,
and not thinking much about the consequences… Pretty much like Lestat, in fact.

I actually really hope that he was drunk when he did this interview! It was 2004, and i know that bc he mentions his kid’s ages so I did the math based on that so we can’t say it was part of the CRAZYINLOVE that was Dating Katie Era (started in April of ‘05).

I have a huge list of faves. HUGE. But the thing about VC fanfic is that we still have to be sort of careful about sharing it bc of reasons (under the cut if you wanna know why).
MY faves may not be what you’re looking for as I tend to skew L/L, since they are the OTP I am hopelessly afflicted with, but I have some drabbles and links to fic saved with other characters in my #fanfic, and #damn you and your perfect headcanon perfection tags here. Gulfport: A British Petroleum Fanfic (Part One) by hw_campbell_jnr – There are 2 parts and it’s incomplete but this is devastatingly beautiful long!fic. Hipster modern Lestat and Louis, Lestat going by a pseudonym, politics woven in, it’s just too good. It annoys me how good it is. I am annoyed. I would be less annoyed if it were COMPLETED.

In short, Anne Rice had waged war on VC fanfic in the mid-90s, sic’ing her lawyers on many fanfic writers, eventually breaking apart fanfic sites (“speculative fiction” or “spec” archives/communities) and driving many of these writers to stop writing altogether or do so in a more underground way.
Currently, she’s had conflicting stances on fanfic, but hasn’t made outright war at nearly that level. We try not to tag her in discussions of it, basically, we don’t try to provoke her by making our caches of VC fanfic known. Especially on Facebook, where she’s very active and might see it. She posted this on her FB in 2014 (I think):
