Close Quarters

“So what if we had to sleep on lumpy pallets, and the neighbors woke us up with fighting.” -Lestat, The Vampire Lestat

Was it the first night? The second? Third? It had all been a whirlwind to me, the excitement of arriving in Paris, the world suddenly such a different place from where I’d spent the last 21 years. People everywhere, the stench of shit and piss in the streets, the sounds of horses and church bells and music everywhere. How I loved it.

We’d rented a tiny room at the top floor of a building–one bed, two windows, a shelf and a basin in which to wash. Such a small space! Such heaven to me, such cramped and glorious beauty.

The first night we’d made wild, happy love, tumbling into the lumpy, uncomfortable bed twisted and entwined and endlessly delighted in each other. The bells of a church chimed the hour in the distance, the moonlight spilling into the little window and onto the floor of the flat. I remember this image as I drifted off to sleep, a strange thought coming to me that I hoped my mother was okay, that she was becoming well again, perhaps.

It was maybe an hour later that I was roused, abruptly, by shouts. The wall above our head thudded as something hit it–something heavy.

“Nicolas–” I shook him, then, his eyes snapping open.

“What is it? What the hell–?” He sat up, nearly conking heads with me, both of us turned to face the wall behind the headboard.

The screaming continued, followed by the shattering of glass. I know my eyes widened, then–I’d experienced plenty of abuse and yelling in my years, yes, but never had I been privy to the violent fighting of complete strangers, not in such an intimate way. I’d grown up in a damn castle, for God’s sake–the walls were thick and the place devoured sound.

Then Nicolas began to laugh.

I snapped my eyes to his, “How can you laugh? It’s terrible!”

He fell back against the bedclothes, snatching my pillow as he laughed and throwing it at me.

“Welcome to Paris, Lestat.”

Skåll blood brother!! Do you know if there is rp blogs for Thorne ? Bonsoir ! Et merci !

//ooc; my Lestat never interacted with a Thorne, so mun will answer for him.

@nordic-thorns is the only Thorne RPer I know of (thanks for reminding me, @maestroderomanus! I remember seeing them on the dash but I couldn’t recall the name), not sure if they’re currently active. You can peruse their archive tho 😉

“A woman approached me on the street and called me “fine”. I am fine. I don’t need mortals telling me how I feel inside.”

[^X]

They used to RP with @redhairedtwin, that mun may know their whereabouts.

Hello! Do you recall if there is ever any reason given on why Mael didn’t survive the sun stunt although Armand, who is much much younger did? If Anne ever explained it I didn’t catch it. I love your blog by the way and you seem to be a lovely person <3

Y’know, I don’t think it was ever explained in canon! We’ve had a few Mael RPers over the years who might have have a good answer for you… @thevampiremael, @maelgallia come to mind. Other RPers, or anyone else, are welcome to comment/reblog w/ ideas on this.

[^X Brock O’Hurn bc of reasons *swoon*]

Mael had been turned (pretty soon after Marius was turned) by Avicus, another God of the Wood who had survived the Great Fire. Even if Avicus had done a bad job turning him or had recently turned other fledglings, that shouldn’t have been a factor in Mael’s vulnerability to sunlight so many years later, since Mael was old enough to have earned some durability on his own. The only answer I can think of rn is that Mael’s combusted remains were further destroyed by frightened mortals who saw it happen? Idk! It’s an answer I’d like to have.

I love your blog by the way and you seem to be a lovely person ❤

Awww thank u for the blargh love and comment about me, that’s very sweet of you! ^_____^

You guys, @everlastingporcelain is back from a lil hiatus, and is a longtime Bianca RPer. Hit her up for your Bianca questions and interactions ❤

(I really do think the pearls in this one character’s hair were a teensy reference to Bianca.)

So, I am still new to Tumblr but I really would love to ask this question to you. Regarding ” The Vampire Armand”, what is your general opinion on the realitionship between Riccardo and Armand? How did you react to Riccardo’s death? “The Vampire Armand” is one my favorite out if VC series, but for some reason when I read the book I found myself becoming attached to Riccardo, even though he is introduced much later.

Welcome to our little corner of tumblrland!

@riccardo-de-romanus is a Riccardo RPer, you might check out their archives or try to get in touch with them for Riccardo action. They use Avan Jogia as a face claim.

Anyone is free to comment/reblog this w/ their thoughts. I reached out to some ppl privately to help me with this bc I was never really all that attached to Riccardo…  but yes, I thought Riccardo’s death was believable, and shocking, and heartwrenching! The fact that Armand survived that experience is a testament to his character’s strength, that he could go on after that ;A;

You’re not wrong for wanting to attach to this more or less obscure character; some RPers specifically choose less popular characters as their muse, the road less traveled and all that ;D

Other people with positive thoughts to share w/ you on Riccardo:

As @bloodyvampchrons put it so eloquently: “Riccardo is a cinnamon roll<3″ More from @bloodyvampchrons:

The thing with Riccardo that gets so tragic is that he’s one of the very few characters in TVA who’s genuinely kind and caring and not controlling or abusive in any way, he’s quite innocent, just an ordinary young man.

He welcomes Amadeo immediately and is charged with taking care of him since Riccardo is among the eldest (and Amadeo second eldest I THINK? I’ll have to look up ages). And they just become best friends/brothers and have a lot of NORMAL innocent teenage fun. So it’s like the only bits of that book which are healthy tbh xD

They pair up together for fencing because they’re evenly matched, they go to Bianca’s together and go to taverns and play cards and get drunk illicitly (XD), Riccardo helps teach him Italian and ‘rescues’ him from making a fool of himself at lessons, and they seem kind of inseparable. i think Riccardo is a few years older but I’m not sure how much.

Aaand then of course Anne uses that elaborate setup (Riccardo is really the only one of the boys she takes the time to make a distinct and familiar character) to make it THAT much more awful when he dies.

^I agree with all this. The healthiness of Marius/Amadeo vs. Riccardo/Amadeo (if that was a legit ship) is endlessly debatable.

Hit the jump, cut for length.

Re: your attachment to him, I’m noticing this more now with other obscure characters, too. There seems to be a tendency for fans to attach to characters like Riccardo who aren’t in canon as much as the major ones. I would suggest it’s because we don’t know as much about these characters, less has been written for them, and so they are available for our own projections, to some extent. If we do know their history (like Quinn) but their POV hasn’t been done as much as say, Lestat’s, maybe ppl want to know how they’re handling things that occurred outside whatever their own story was.
