IDK if IWTV is a high-grossing vampire book, I would hope so! My guess would be its ranking in vampire book lists has changed over time. Popularity probably surged when movie!IWTV and movie!QOTD came out, when the Lestat Musical came out, when each new book comes out, etc.
If not IWTV, I wouldn’t know which is the highest-grossing, but I would bet it’s TVL, because it establishes alot of the Ricean vampire lore/rules, and that’s the one they are focusing on in the new film adaptation.
… and then it also depends on ppl’s access to the book, whether they have to sneak it bc they are 8 yr olds reading their big sister’s battered paperback, or adults listening to the audiotapes bc it was recc’d by a friend, who knows! Everyone seems to come in at different times in their lives, different ways. Very few ppl tell me they just saw it on a shelf and the cover made them want to give it a try, it’s usually someone giving it to them like a drug dealer gives you a taste of the goods to get you hooked… lol.
(of course I don’t write fanfic, anywhere, what kind of horrible meanie would do that??yes i do actually)(And that is so sweet of you, my interpretation of the characters is spot on?! *hugs* Most of it comes from my own headcanon, but I’m also grateful to be in this fandom and have the benefit of such good headcanons to absorb through other ppls fanworks and RP, etc. <3)
#I love these kind of stories, how ppl got their first taste of this stuff… you were 8?? That’s very young, yep, you probably would have missed certain things… and it sounds to me like it got this Forbidden Fruit quality for you like it did for me. I was 11, and while my parents didn’t stop me from reading it, I wasn’t old enough to see the movie!IWTV in 1994, so I had to wait until it was on VHS (YES I AM THAT OLD) to see it, and even then, it was rated R so I had to sneak over to my friend’s house to watch it. I had bought a copy from another friend and relabeled the tape Forrest Gump, and for some reason my parents never thought it strange that I had 2 copies of that movie… they probably never noticed lol.
But I am jealous that your mom (AR Veteran! omg I bet I am closer to her age than yours) is into it. I tried to get my parents into it a few yrs back, and they made it through the first two books and then dropped it. OH WELL. At least now I can quote canon occasionally and they have an idea of what I’m referencing.

So the delay in reply was bc I actually have gotten a few asks recently about fave scenes and such, and you asked me AND the fandom, so anyone is welcome to comment/reblog this post (or shoot me an Ask and maybe I’ll compile a few) and offer their own ideas for what they’d like to see in fanart.
Personally… if I were to REALLY dig deep into my soul, I would have to consider each book and pull scenes from it, and I’ve already delayed far too long in answering this, so this is a less serious list. I think what I’m asking for is some canon and/or fanfic scenes.
As for the style, personally, I prefer comic panels, crisp lines, color optional (like Alphons Mucha), but then there are great pieces in more surreal styles… And beautifully rendered works that are almost like classical paintings! So, really, any style or medium, my thirst for fanart is insatiable!

So I just want to make a shoutout post to @i-want-my-iwtv because I love your blog and have been following it since I got into The Vampire Chronicles. You’re my favorite.
So, Sybelle! A rare one for ppl to ask about and rarely chosen for RP. I remember there was @sybelle-the-appassionata, but it looks like they’re on hiatus. There was also @play-the-appassionata, looks inactive now, but their archive might have smtg for you!
I don’t really have positive or negative feelings towards her, but in light of later canon, she’s become more solid, more believable, and I do hope AR develops her some more. There’s more to Sybelle than being ANOTHER beautiful blonde woman-child, and having a name of Greek derivation; Sybelle means “prophetess, oracle.” Does she foresee things in canon? Not so much, IIRC, but maybe that has yet to happen.

In fact I think the comparison is more than reasonable; Sybelle also seemed isolated in a tower, and further isolated herself with her obsession with the piano, specifically, Beethoven’s Appassionata.
We have Sybelle to thank for waking Lestat from his coma, so I set my alarm to one of the stronger sections of the Appassionata,
you really cannot ignore it or shut it out, and it’s NOT the most pleasant thing to wake up to. It works though, it really works. IT COULD WAKE THE DEAD. I had to change it after a few weeks, but try it!
Just try and tell me that Valentina Lisitsa isn’t basically Sybelle, just look at her! She’s just older.
