FIRST and foremost, one of the Lestat RPers who still uses JCB as a face claim, @cdf-archiveā (now known as @couer-de-feu, tumblr isnāt hyperlinking it OH WELL) wrote up a gr9 post about JCB as Lestat [X], excerpt under the cut. Ā
I feel ya, I find that playing the casting game is hard bc ppl can be really dismissive of actors, pointing out what they think are physical limitations of the actors, or whatever, itās easy to nitpick based on our own ideals of beauty.
A great performance is more than just the actorās looks, itās the harmony of every film crew memberās job done well, from the grips, to the sound ppl, to the costume ppl, to the director, and so on, not just the actors. But talking VC casting can be fun to see which of our choices are shared by others ā¤Ā
So YEAH, JCB was a somewhat popular FC for Lestat RPers at one time, so your opinion is/was shared by others! Iām gonna reblog a few pieces of fanart after I post this that are basically JCB as Lestat, so stay tuned šEDIT: I have fanart of Paul Boche as Lestat, not JCB! Iāll reblog those. But can someone send me some Lestat fanart based on JCB? I feel like Iāve seen it but canāt remember whereā¦
^I donāt have a joke to go with this, Iād made it
aaaages ago
for @coeur-de-feu. Maybe itās Lestat reacting to coming home to a Louis dressed only in a sheer green scarf, surrounded by piles of red roses, for Lestatās birthday or smtg, lol.Ā
I havenāt seen Will yet but it looks like an intriguing and snazzy take on Shakespeare! Admittedly, I have not been a huge fan of Jamie Campbell Bower, bc I havenāt seen the stuff heās been in, Iām not a YA fan⦠from the pics Iāve seen of JCB he has seemed too skinny/bony for my own headcanon of Lestat (and I admit thatās based on my own ideals of beauty)-
BUT BUT BUT, these pics of him from Will are looking, actually, very #Lestatuesque to me!
^Like, maybe itās the hair*, the lighting, the expression, etc., (a combination probably) idk what it is, but his face seems less HELLO CHEEKBONE now for some reason? Heās very Lestat here, to me. Like heās in thrall, listening to Nicki playing violin music.Ā
*The hair would need SOME more styling and highlights but JCB being a natural blond (I think?) should make it easier to brighten his hair up than it was for Tom, who has never been able to pull off a really bright blond in any movie I can remember (even the silver looked kinda strange in Collateral but I digressā¦)
[^XĀ from @foreverjamiecampbellbower] ^Even here, yes, JCB has cheekbones you could slice your hand open on, but maybe the stubble is also just, giving that jawline and generous mouth the attention they deserve? IDK itās working for me!
I think JCB has enough of the physical part nailed down that the rest can be built on his performance. Tom had limitations appearance-wise, too, but the acting won ppl over who donāt even like him in any other roles.Ā
This is already a long-ish post so for more of my thoughts on him, hit up my #jamie campbell bower tag.
Also, hit the jump for a quote from @cdf-archive/@coeur-de-feu that I think is relevant here.
The fact is, we all have our own ideals of beauty and our own headcanon of these characters. Itās highly unlikely that one actor will satisfy all of our expectations, and @cdf-archiveĀ wrote up a great post about JCB as Lestat [X], excerpt below:
āThere will always be inconsistencies, everywhere you look. But itās not really even whether or not I find him perfect. Itās his imperfections that make him perfect, to me. And perhaps thatās what Magnus found in Lestat – his imperfections gave him an indescribable yet authentic beauty and Magnus wanted to immortalize those features by turning Lestat into a vampire, even though Lestat did not want it. It was okay with Magnus that Lestat had a few things here and there that werenāt completely perfect; he found him extraordinarily beautiful, regardless.ā

I donāt know well what happened here
I was watching the wowpresents chanel on YouTube while looking through some Anne Riceās vampire chronicles fan art and boom! This came out
No real new info here but still! Let’s consider suggestions. I like that AR wants new actors, up-and-coming, not so much actors we’ve seen a lot of already or have baggage outside of their jobs (not mentioning who, but I think y’all know who I mean).Ā
Ā I’ll check her FB for some responses but we could make some suggestions, too! People Off the Page, any fresh Lestat casting ideas? Reboot this with a pic or two and reason(s) why ^_____^
I just donāt understand. How come Lestat could kick Armandās ass into the ground like that anyways back at Palais Royal that time? Sure, he caught him by surprise or wtv, so????? I mean, he was like what? Three hundred and something? Wasnāt Marius like 1500 years when he turned him and yeah okay, I get it Magnus was old but was he that old? And this blonde bitchĀ Lestat was like twenty holy shit.Ā
These are the questions that keep me up at night.
iām still pissed over this and iāll keep reblogging it untill someone gives me a reasonable explanation
I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Lestat isĀ āfearlessā and a lot of times in VC world the vampires need to embrace their strength to wield it. Armand wouldāve had strength if he tapped into it, between the advantage of his age and from Mariusās blood, but he was living underground and not really using it and honing it. Marius explains that a lot in B&G, too, like he would talk about how heād make these little discoveries and have to practice them and teach Mael and Avicus how to use them because they were like oblivious dumb dumbs and werenāt exercising their GIFTS. And it happens in QOTD, too, with Akasha teaching Lestat how to use the Cloud Gift and all that shit, and it has to do with having the balls to let go and let the Blood guide you and all that. I think a lot of vampires secretly acquire these things and they lay dormant until the vampire has the balls the try them on.Ā
So Lestat, I think, hits the ground running and is willing to push himself, whereas Armand has been rigidly following these coven rules and repressing himself for centuries and doesnāt know how to vampire.
Really though, depression is looming around the corner my dudes, who knows when it will come but it undoubtedly will, so you can bet your ass im gonna document everything that makes me happy while i can Dont waste the good parts [X] Ā
Found a ton of old Vampire Chronicles books today and, honestly, I forgot how I loved Nicolas de Lenfent with my whole heart (guess who canāt draw violins though)
Anyway I did some dumb sketches because theyāre a pretty cool gang I guess
lestat de lioncourt is a highly relatable character:
⢠whiny
⢠in a near constant state of existential crisis
⢠falls desperately in love with any man whoās even kind of nice to him
