|| I will take Antonio over creepy cherub guy trying way too hard to be 17 but looks 40 any day. I just pretend Antonio is Santino fucking with you.

I like the idea that it’s Santino fucking with us, hahaha.

I have such nostalgia for Antonio!Armand. Antonio doesn’t deserve the hate he gets for Armand, he did a great job, and brought a dark European hawtness to it. Check out my #Defending Antonio tag for legitimate ideas defending his casting.

In essence: if they had cast a cherubic teenage redhead (or older creepy cherub dude trying to look 17 *cough cough* movie!QotD *cough*) it might have been confusing to people who hadn’t read the books, and might have taken the sympathy away from Louis (who was supposed to remain the focus, it’s HIS story, after all). That would have been compromised by omg cute little redhead bby we want to snuggles you! <– If the person at least had the right appearance.

Let’s say it was an appeal to those who hadn’t read the book(s) … casting an Armand that they could understand more easily as being a more mature/father/teacher figure for Louis.

I find a vampire book in the library and of course it opens right up to Lestat.

NICE FIND.

Lestat should really be on the cover I mean like between Lestat and the Lost Boys’ David, which vampire wrote 9 books chronicling his ENTIRE life story, misadventures, and shared a unique vampire origin story? Among other things?

Louis has a PHD in ignoring Lestat

-Art by Admin F

Okay, but why is Louis wearing eyeliner and lestat isn’t? Shouldn’t it be the other way around, you know, rock star and all?

That isn’t eyeliner tho; those are dark circles under his eyes that show off just how done he is with his undead life. And Lestat. Mostly how done he is with Lestat.

At least 90% of those dark circles have accumulated because of Lestat-related-stress.

Worry = top quality guyliner/eyeliner

They need to scrap the idea of making The Vampire Chronicles into any more movies and just do a TV show called The Vampire Lestat on HBO or Showtime, or whatever. They can start with the second book, The Vampire Lestat (obvi), for season 1-Lestat’s origin, how he was turned, Nicholas, Marius, Louis, etc etc and see how it goes from there. There’s so much material, a 2 hour movie just isn’t enough for the characters or the storylines.

Yeah, and I’d be happy with a very freely adapted version of the books, a la what Hannibal does with Thomas Harris’s work. It could tell a lot of the same storylines without having to work its way through the books as written one by one, and they could play around a lot with inserting flashbacks as and when they wanted to either add new material or make the clunkier moments of storytelling in the books more concise.

Just go back in time and get this made pleeeeeeease. Nic Lea and Anne Rice = match made in something something.

^WHAT (you guys, watch the vid in the link bc HELP it’s giving me second-hand embarrassment for some odd reason)

“Anne Rice wrote the pilot about a group of higher beings who have taken human form in New York City and must battle nefarious forces not seen by mere mortals. Unfortunately it wasn´t picked up, so all that remains is this never aired pilot.”

Now I just had this thought. Or a vision without revelation as the line goes… Wait, not a thought, a familiar character. It was Lestat from Interview with the Vampire. He was mean as fuck and cruel even more. I saw him feeding on one of these “lovelies” who justified and absolved him of all his monstrosity because such big and forgiving is the love of a fan, who sees him and understands him… And in this weird vision he was not like James Bond of all vampires, no. He was no Prince either. He was Hannibal Lecter of all vampires….

And I liked that….

And the thing is, it’s as likely as anything else. In QotD Lestat tells us his fantasy of visiting that fan, but the fact he stops before the end allows him to seduce the reader without having to complicate the story with a disturbing ending. In TVL and TTotBT, though, we see him feed on innocence and love it. I think you hit on a very important truth in this idea that Lestat could just as easily bury himself in a fan’s forgiving love – after all, when he does terrible things, he’s counting on the forgiveness and forbearance of those around him (and sometimes, like when he burns Louis’s shack and Marius is Not Amused, it goes very wrong)…

Mmm, yes. One more thing I’d like to add. Let’s forget for a moment it’s a piece of fiction, and so is vampire. Fans tend to forgive Lestat almost everything because he’s Lestat. No? Even the fact he’s a vampire is viewed as his asset and certainly adds much to the general appeal of this character. From the literary point of view, because it’s vampire/horror (supposedly) genre too, it’s understandable. And the irony is we should stand wary, skeptical, and cautious when faced with the creature that, yes, it feels, thinks, sings and dances too, and used to be human even, but the bottom line is… the creature eats us, it’s a serial killer. I find it fascinating. Interestingly enough, Lestat himself in TOTBT warns us not to trust him, not to fall for the image he created himself of himself in his books. He is a killer. His words are smooth, but he’s a killer…  I’ve never forgotten that. It’s a subtle yet most powerful warning ever, yet it seems a reader can’t refuse the general romanticism of the books and characters, and of the way the vampires philosophize about the world and humanity, so – one by one – readers are seduced, sometimes against the human basic survival instinct. And yes, it’s fiction, it’s a seduction readers can allow themselves. Yet, there’s a deeper thing to consider and it’s this general notion or belief that someone who speaks so beautifully and feels so much can’t do me harm, right?  *winks*

So, yes, thank you, Lestat, for teaching me one of the most important lessons in and about life…

“And the irony is we should stand wary, skeptical, and cautious when faced with the creature that, yes, it feels, thinks, sings and dances too, and used to be human even, but the bottom line is… the creature eats us, it’s a serial killer.”

Warning; I’m about to wax at length about a
Daniel thing in Prince Lestat.
I’m probably “interrogating the text from the wrong perspective”, but so be it!
😀

So I’m poking my way through Prince Lestat again, because I
cannot resist squeezing every last bit of interesting detail out of any of the
Chronicles that has to do with Daniel, and I couldn’t resist taking a good long
look at this particular bit because I was also made to suffer four years of
seminary during my late teens, so any chance to use that knowledge for
something I actually enjoy is occasionally entertaining for this heathen.

The line from Prince Lestat I’ve been
pondering the last day or so:

Prince Lestat: He
and Daniel had to leave Brazil. This was a safe place no longer. Daniel said he
understood. “Whither thou goest, I go,”
he had said.

This is, of course, a partial quote from The
Old Testament which is full is:

Ruth 1:16: And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to
return from following after thee: for whither
thou goest, I will go
; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people
shall be my people, and thy God my God

With the last name Molloy,
it’s obvious that Daniel is of Irish descent, and so it seems to have become a
fairly consistent fan belief over the years (based on the fic and discussions
out there) that Daniel was likely raised in a Catholic environment. Personally,
this quote just cemented that fan-canon thought for me even more, and with that
in mind, it really added a new layer of depth to what Daniel is saying here.

I know it’s also been
speculated post Blood And Gold
that Daniel is in a situation he has little or no control over, being left or
taken into Marius’ care. That somehow he’s become a ‘lackey’ or he’d become a low-level
replacement for Those Who Must Be Kept. I know because I was a party of that
fan-camp of thought for quite some time. So believe me, this is a really big 180° for me to be taking.

It’s become clear in Prince Lestat that Daniel has
come back to his senses, but this particular line seems to also establish that
Daniel has remained and continues to remain with Marius of his own volition. His reference of The Book of Ruth is a pretty
subtle but clear indication that he’s accepted his companion and wants to
remain at his side. Wherever Marius goes, he’s going, and where Marius chooses
to live, that’s where Daniel will live.

It also adds an additional
potential layer of Daniel’s mindset toward Armand. In the Bible, Ruth
chooses to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, instead of going home to her
family, hence the famous quote. I can’t help but wonder if Daniel’s also subtly
referencing that even though Armand isn’t dead in the literalist of senses,
their relationship is. That of course also begs the question if he then thinks of Marius in a ‘familiar, paternal kind of way’ but I’m not going there right now. That’ll be for another time.

I am flailing so hard right now because I’ve wondered about that line and I love you to death for drawing this out and pointing out its implications in the context of Daniel-as-Catholic, and the relevance of the passage to Daniel’s situation.

Personally I got the feeling that Marius was doing some recovery of his own, and that possibly Daniel is staying with him for the time being because he’s needed, and Marius has done a lot for him. That’s not to say that I disagree entirely about his thinking re:Armand, I do think their reunion in PL is probably the first since Daniel ‘went mad’. So he wouldn’t have any particular reason to think they could pick their relationship back up, but he still seems pretty eager to go to Trinity and see everyone – and if going to Trinity meant ‘seeing the ex’ I think we could expect slightly more mixed feelings on Dan’s part? So while I do think he’s definitely staying with Marius by his own choice at this point, I guess I’m not sure about the finality of it. (But this post is really awesome and I love it.)

Yeah, I like the idea that the relationship (whether it’s just paternal or romantic) between Marius and Daniel has been therapeutic on both sides. I think that because neither made the other there’s a lack of pressure, and they were living together at what was clearly a very difficult time for both of them.

We get very little from Daniel’s POV in BaG but I suspect that for every one of Daniel’s worst moments as described by Marius, Daniel has also watched Marius spend an entire night just staring at the wall, or constantly putting an order for paint in an Amazon basket and then deleting it, putting it in and deleting it…

12-year-old Kirsten Dunst was made to look 5 years old in IWTV and technology has advanced so much since then so there is no excuse for Tom Cruise not to be Lestat again.

ooc; Coven Game Night Poker Edition

I COULD TOTALLY SEE THIS.

Lestat’s a hot shot, and would probably bet everything all at once, but doesn’t even care when he ends up sitting in his birthday suit.

Benji had to beg to join since he’s technically a minor, but when Marius said “NO” Armand just looked at him like he was a camera on the office. Marius sucks at poker and ends up naked next; then Benji because he hasn’t been alive as long to perfect his poker face.

Sybelle is playing piano in the corner and no one thinks she notices but there’s a mirror above her on the wall and she really like’s tonight’s entertainment.

Louis was literally dragged into the room to play by Lestat and Armand, and it happened to be the only thing that the two of them worked together on that entire year.

Armand’s done next, and shoots death glares at the others, even though he’s not the least bit embarrassed.

And then there’s Louis, where there, on the final set of turns, when he’s the last one in, they look at him with nothing off but his shoes.

“Louis when did you lose them?”

“I didn’t, I just felt like taking them off and relaxing.”

^PERFECTION

I remember you saying something about how the vampires in the VC are asexal. What does that mean? Can they still have sex as vampires? Can they have sex with vampires and humans. This is something I’m curios about.

So this is a good question and I could spend entirely too long answering it but people don’t want to read a huge Wall of Text™©®. I’ll try to be concise.

The sharingz of BLOOD is all a Ricean vampire needs in terms of sexual interaction. This can be a fully clothed or naked

activity, or anywhere in between, and ppl sometimes forget that there is a major artery in the inner thigh called the Femoral Artery which makes for a very sexy place to bite…

image

BASICALLY your 2 main canon quotes re: asexuality are:

1. Lestat has this to say about his package:

“I studied my reflection … and the organ, the organ we don’t
need, poised as if ready for what it would never again know how to do
or want to do,
marble, a Priapus at a gate”
– Queen of the Damned

2. Pandora wants Marius to sex her up on their ‘wedding night’ and he can’t do it, but they try, awkwardly:

He covered me and kissed my cheek. “Drink from me,” he said, “drink until the pain goes away. It’s only the body dying, drink Pandora, you are immortal.“
"Fill me, take me,” I said. I reached down between his legs.
“It doesn’t matter now.”
But it was hard, this organ I sought, the organ forever lost to the god Osiris. I guided it, hard and cold as it was, into my body. Then I drank and drank, and when I felt his teeth again on my neck, when he began to draw from me the new mixture that filled my veins, it was sweet suckling, and I knew him and loved him and knew all his secrets in one flash which meant nothing.

He was right. The lower organs meant nothing.

He fed on me. I fed on him. This was our marriage.

Pandora

Also, there’s little mention in canon of vampire sex other than bloodsharing, so it’s assumed they don’t need it, bc they don’t procreate that way. New vampires are made by sharing blood.

In canon, human/vampire sex it basically non-penetrative, but that all depends on your definition of sex. Is fingering sex? vampires!Marius and Amadeo do that with mortal!Bianca, for example, and she seems very satisfied!

Keep in mind that #Your headcanon may vary, and this is why we have fanfic. Lots of ficwriters write them as fully sexual beings who can do it with vampires or humans.

There are some fics that suggest that human/vampire sex can be harmful to the human, since vampires are stronger in alot of different ways, and some fics suggest human/vampire sex is impossible (like Lois Lane/Superman, how does that even work does he destroy her? It is a mystery).
