Lot 258 of 410: TOM CRUISE INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE PROP

Warner Bros., 1994, Lestat’s thumb talon, worn in the film by Tom Cruise while bloodletting his victims. Made of steel with engraved floral design, the talon is contained in a black coffin shaped case with the name “Neil” on the lid. The item was donated by the film’s director Neil Jordan. case 9 1/8 inches PROVENANCE: UNICEF Ireland, Movie Action For Children Auction, held at Sotheby’s New York, March 6, 2001.

It sold for $5,000! I can’t decide if that’s too much or too little for a steel ring movie prop, but at least the money went to a good cause. And at least we have a decent pic of it for the engravings… bc of reasons…

A chronological retrospective of the two rings Louis wears. For 200 years. Apparently Lestat could get him to change his wardrobe, kill people, and all kinds of other depraved things etc., but Louis kept his jewelry to a strict minimum.

One appears to be his wedding ring.

  • in the movie version, Louis is a widow. Maybe the ring was his wedding ring.
  • After the Dark Gift, he keeps it on. Maybe it’s earned new significance towards Lestat, now. 
  • After Lestat’s “death,” Louis continues to wear the ring. Maybe it’s significant to both people he’s lost.

The other is a pinky ring.

  • This one may have just been fashionable to begin with.
  • Maybe it symbolized the child who died with his wife in childbirth.
  • Later, maybe it’s earned new significance when Claudia is given the Dark Gift.
  • After Claudia’s death, Louis continues to wear the ring. Maybe it’s significant to both “children” he’s lost.

(re: Louis & rings in the film) pinky ring was a gay code, or “no marriage plz”-code at some point. I’ve always thought that Louis’ pinky ring is his dead wifes wedding ring, and so signifies both “all the loves I’ve lost” and “tried heterosexuality once and it was a disaster”…

I have not, but some of the fanart (here’s one) looks very VC to me! It’s on netflix?? High rating, I’ll give it a try! I like this style alot.

^The pixellation here makes this look like a video game. Could u imagine a VC videogame??! I’m visualizing a scenario like Super Smash Bros. w/ Lestat vs. Armand… or Louis & Claudia playing on a team vs.Vagabond European Vampire No. 73….

Also, lots of creative murders like the Fire Gift and the Explodey-Heart-Gift on mortals. 

So I was on Etsy today looking for vintage jewelry and I decided to search for “Interview with the Vampire” in the search box to see what people were selling on Etsy and all I can say is WOW! I believe you don’t need to open up an account to search for stuff so go ahead and take a look at all the IWTV stuff they have.

^yah so I don’t have access to any photoshoppin’ tools rn but whatever… that is yours truly and @roselioncourt.

So LOTS of things happening and tbh I’m a little overwhelmed by all the info we’ve gotten in the last week, and the posts in response, some of which I’ve seen… and I was trying to keep up w/ it all on my phone the whole frickin’ time it was happening (I have 100+ tabs open *laughcries* and the phone is not a happy camper)… it’s a little overwhelming. 

As Ron Swanson famously said: “Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing.” I’m gonna whole-ass all the things when I have the time this weekend, I got all your messages and plan to do massive replies. Also need to make a post about the PLROA booksigning, I took notes (altho there is a video of it on the official VC FB).

… I also have to read the new book (!!!)… I asked for spoilers and you should know that I *facepalmed* or “Oh, Anne”’d at almost every new piece of canon information.
