You know how there’s those posts where they symbolise how each character would do something, like the Salem the cat post for the vampires? Do you have any ideas like that for how each of the characters would dance?

Oh gosh… hmmmm… I’ll think about this. In the meantime, I’ll toss it out for others to try their hand at.

For now, take this:

What are some of your favorite Lestat facts and head canons? (Book and IWTV movie versions)

Are you the same Anon who asked me this a month ago? Why ask me when there are perfectly wonderful Lestat RPers who have full writeups about him, as well? I’ve listed them again at the end of this post.

I have alot of headcanons, and really, these are the seeds for fic/RPs. Headcanons come from canon, author interviews, and fanfic/RP. When they come from fanfic/RP, it’s ideas that fans have developed to answer the gaps left in canon, so they’re kind of preciously guarded until they are written into fic and released that way.

Go to my headcanon accepted tag for headcanons of others that I’ve agreed with ;] but gdi you twisted my arm, so here’s a little peek into my own headcanons… in general strokes. I wouldn’t say favorites. Just ideas that are floating around, begging to be written as fic. They apply to book!Lestat more than movie!Lestat, I guess.

  • Lestat’s birthday is November 7. This is undisputed. He always acts like he couldn’t care less, but if nothing happens that night, he’s wildly offended and can sulk for weeks or more afterwards. So Louis has calendar reminders far in advance so he can arrange an appropriately decadent outing/event/gift of some kind.
  • What do you get the man who has everything and can do anything? Experiences. Everyone in Lestat’s inner circle try to set aside the norm in order to try to give him a unique thrill for his birthday. More often than not they just decide to give him what he wants in the bedroom 😉
  • Lestat knows the date that he was turned and does not celebrate it, but spends it in service to others somehow; being kept busy for that entire night is especially important. He does not like to be in France on that night.
  • Lestat will lapse into paralysis when overcome with emotion, and Louis is the best at drawing him back out of it, with gentle touches and soothing words, or a little blood-dipped kiss, but even he usually just has to wait until Lestat resurfaces on his own. Sometimes Lestat is not himself if he’s “woken up” from it and it’s jarring to watch.
  • Lestat is a believer in Retail Therapy and has bought things immediately after or during an argument (even something as simple as a pair of shades at a gas station) in order to regain control of his emotions. It’s partly because he enjoys the whole exchange he has with the retail person.
  • Lestat had time to know his little sister, and mourned her loss, but didn’t write about it, ever, because it was too painful. She died young, she didn’t have enough hand-eye coordination developed yet to learn to hunt with him, but he wanted that for her so badly, and Gabrielle would have allowed it.
  • Lestat has a recent foot fetish. About his own feet. He can spend hours in a CVS picking out nail colors and he paints his toenails himself. He has 3 shoeboxes full of colors and glitters. Louis dislikes the smell, so Lestat will do it in the courtyard and wait until dry before showing off his artwork.
  • Lestat used to paint Claudia’s little fingernails. He did all sorts of girly activities with her, since it was difficult to find any children her age to befriend her.

Lestat RPers I’ve seen and enjoy watching (in no special order): askthebratprinceeternallyfabulousbratlestatmonsieur-le-rockstarmaestrolestatgorgeous-fiendprincelestatprimusduxasavagegardenindeedlestattheonetruepope, mortcharmant

I’m also tagging viaticumforthemarquise, who, as his mother, has her own headcanons about her son.

And merciful-death, who, as his #1 bitch, has his own headcanons about his maker.

If you have read all the books, do you think Louis is the person Lestat loved the most? I’d like to think it is but I’ve heard things against it? Like Anne Rice herself stated David was her favorite of Lestats intimate relationships.

Hmmm… I have read all 10 books. This question made me pause, bc I’d never considered the question of the “Person Lestat Has Loved the Most.” So of course I had to write a thesis on it, you better be grateful, Anon ;]

It’s interesting that AR thinks of David as her favorite of Lestat’s intimate relationships. I think that may be due in part to the fact that in canon she sort of forgot about Louis post-QotD. From there until Merrick, Louis’s role was fairly small. Maybe it’s because AR had made Louis in her own image, Lestat was made in her husband’s image, and felt that the Louis part of her was done and over with. She sort of morphed into Lestat’s role when her husband passed away. Maybe AR saw something in the father-figure that David presented to Lestat, that patient and kind teacher, that she would have wanted for herself… David has also had a great strength, from the first scene we meet him, he doesn’t take Lestat’s shit, doesn’t frighten easily.

But since we’re asking MY opinion here, I don’t think you can choose the ”Person Lestat Has Loved the Most.”

There are different kinds of love, different types of loving relationships; Lestat would probably agree on this concept. I don’t believe in 1 person getting 1 soulmate and that’s THAT. Think of the pressure on that person to provide ALL the love you need. Think of the pressure on YOU to give ALL the love that person needs. It would be enough to crush anyone.

I think Lestat needs to give/receive different kinds of love from different people, that’s why he’s not a shining example of monogamy (at least not for too long!). These 4 people stand out, to me (and other ppl who have read ALL 10 books), as being his main Loved the Most People (in no particular order):

  • Louis: I think we can agree that Louis is the one Lestat has loved the longest. It’s the most lasting relationship for both, and they undeniably have the strongest chemistry, and the strongest desire for each other in a much deeper way than just, “oh you are so hot let’s fuck.” They love each other for their inner beings, flaws and all. Which I think is one of the highest levels of love you can have ♥u♥ (But they do exhaust each other with their intensity from time to time and need space.)
  • David: was there when Lestat needed him in a way that Louis couldn’t (and wasn’t willing to) be. There’s an intensity added to the love for someone who essentially saves your freakin’ life! David saved Lestat’s life. I don’t want to spoil it for you if you haven’t read #4 so I’ll leave it there ;] …However, David has always been more independent, he’s never come across as yearning for Lestat the way Louis has. He was able to refuse Lestat’s very enticing advances when they were both mortal, and I wonder whether that was actually a fear that he might disappoint Lestat w/ his rickety old man body and lose him forever as a friend. David really did (and continues to!) try to keep Lestat in the Friendzone. Maybe David is afraid of becoming too attached to Lestat and yearning for him the way Louis does.
  • Gabrielle: let’s not leave out Lestat’s first love, Mommie Dearest! Oedipus Complex aside, she was the first person to really go to bat for him when he needed it, and even if they were not related, they still understand and care for each other in a way no one else can come close to.
  • Nicolas: First real relationship, in which Lestat learned about mutual support and caring, and adventure time, and all that other stuff. Some say Louis was Nicki 2.0. If Nicolas had survived, well… he would probably still be in Lestat’s Little Black Book at the very least.

I’m sure I’m missing someone and there’ll be backlash, but ^those 4 stand out to me as fandom’s agreed-upon OTP’s for Lestat.

~♥~ Honorable mentions would be:

  • Armand (definitely a BroTP at least),
  • Claudia (who took his heart and stabbed it, too),
  • Marius (♪”I will be your father figure/Put your tiny hand in mine”♪),
  • Daniel (just to spite Armand),
  • Jesse (no, not from that trainwreck QotD movie, just from the books, she was a pretty aggressive wanna-be groupie),
  • Tarquin Blackwood (a pretty big Lestat fanboy who Lestat allowed to blather on for about 95% of a novel ugh),
  • Mona Mayfair (Unfortunately he did fall for her for about 20 seconds),
  • Rowan Mayfair (Unfortunately he did fall for her for about 30 seconds).

I hope that answers your question! I can’t seem to answer anything simply. *siiiigh*

Besides the facts that Lestat is a serial killer and essentially does the opposite of what he’s advised, why is there so much chatter about “you wouldn’t want to be his friend”, “he’s not the one you’d want to be around”?? What else has Lestat done to make himself sound so unpleasant?

You can sum it up with “Does not play well with others.”

He’s kind of a bitch. In the books, he’s impulsive, a bully… he’s constantly biting back insults, violence, and laughter just to function in conversation. He covers up a lot of insecurity with bravado and that doesn’t always work in his interactions with others. He also dissolves into tears fairly easily.

Unfortunately monogamy is also difficult for him. He needs a lot of attention from a lot of sources. He’ll purposely sabotage a relationship, subconsciously or deliberately, to engage in another with someone else 😛 And regret doing so.

THAT said, he can also be the most loving out of all of the VC characters. He’s got a lot of love to give, and he gets frustrated when people don’t accept it the way he wants to give it.

Especially now that we are anticipating/dreading the new book, it is very nice to have a funny take on all things VC. (I also love the image of the people of the page as one large discontented possum.)

Yep! I think we’re going to need to be mutually supportive. It has a 99% chance of being… um… therapy-inducing. I think we all just want our fave characters to be represented properly and not pushed ooc (LOUIS IN MERRICK OMG)(I mean he was bewitched but STILL)(ugh)

I think the People Off the Page are the discontented possum… the People Of the Page are going to be a contented possum from page 1, line 1 😉

I just watched the director’s commentary section on the IWTV dvd and there seems to be some additional scenes

YES there are additional CUT SCENES and it is a sore subject among the fandom. And Warner Bros/Geffen doesn’t seem to be interested in releasing a 20th Anniversary edition with those scenes as extras *pouts*

Here’s some tags with pics you won’t find in the movie because they’re production stills or cut scenes (or unused shots from scenes that did make it into the movie, or I couldn’t tell the difference so I tagged it as both). Siiiigh.

There are little bits in the original trailer that have these, for example:

  • a few seconds’ snippet of a Theatre des Vampires stage performance
  • Louis saying something like, “I can’t take this anymore” to camera
  • Lestat saying something like, “I never knew what life was until it ran out in a red gush on my lips.”

I think Neil Jordan also specifically mentions some things but I haven’t watched the director commentary in a loooong time.

What do you think would happen if a vampire got a tattoo? Would it stay?

Well first of all, there are so many kinds of vampires to consider, all different interpretations, different physiologies, blah blah… my immediate thought is that 30 Days of Night vampires could have tattoos from before they were turned that would endure, and same for The Lost Boys vampires, and further, I think The Lost Boys vampires could get permanent tattoos after being turned, too. I don’t think we ever see if they do, that’d be a question for skeletalroses (Can you speak to that?).

RICEAN vampires are my fave (of course)(this being a Vampire Chronicles blog) so I’ll just focus on them.

So I don’t remember, but I think one of the Fang Gang dudes from QotD had tattoos…

As far as my opinion tho… I think they CAN GET a tattoo because they can be pierced with needles and such (especially when they’re allowing themselves to be cut/pierced) but it wouldn’t stay too long. The ink would probably be rejected by their system the same way alcohol and drugs swim around, affecting them temporarily, but evaporate eventually.

So they could get a tattoo and it might last a night or so. Think of the terrible tatts Lestat could get! Cheesy “MOM” hearts, or “Born to be Wild” for example. We could keep going. They would all be out-of-touch trying-to-be-cool things that he would torture Louis with. Even face tattoos, like the one in the Hangover

Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages was Aging-Brunet-Mortal!Lestat. Just look at this dude. Crucifix on the forearm, pistols on the waistband-area… a dragon curling around a pec, batwings on his back… ugh my heart.
