Claire Danes Becomes Real-Life Cinderella at the Met Gala in Glowing Fiber Optic Dress

At last night’s Met Gala, Claire Danes dazzled the red carpet in a
show-stopping ensemble, reminiscent of a futuristic Cinderella. Designed
by Zac Posen,
the gown had the glamour of classic couture, but with a glitzy
technological twist: fiber optic fabric that glowed in the dark.

Every year, New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art
hosts this black tie fundraising event—often fondly referenced as
“fashion prom"—to benefit its lauded Costume Institute, in coordination
with the opening of a new spring show. Danes’ dress was an apt
representation of this season’s theme: Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.
The 150-piece exhibition invited the exploration of “how fashion
designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the
creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear.”

(//ooc: from mun) Claudia, you look beautiful in everything, but what are some of your favorite colors/prints/fabrics to wear? Has this changed over time?

Claudia smiled at the compliment, weighing her head to the side slightly. “Merci beacoup, cheri. I wont wear just anything you know.” Thinking to her wardrobe, for a moment she glanced off into space. “My favorite color is royal blue. All those deep colors are really beautiful. Red, purple, even gold although I like gold more for accessorize than a clothing color.”

“Of course I adore lace. You can’t go wrong with floral patterns…..then again it depends on the floral. I don’t like to over do it.” Which was funny because Claudia was the queen of ‘over doing it’, next to Lestat of course. “There are so many crazy prints out there…” She had a look on her face that was a mixture of confusion and disgust as she shook her head. “Je ne sais pas…”

“Satin, silk, cotton, velvet, cashmere.” She listed. “Wool is good for warm but I hate that rough texture.”

“I’d like to think my taste has changed at least a little bit with time. Fashion has changed so much and new things come out all the time. The things people wear now is very different from what we use to wear. Less layers, then more layers again, then less material. I can’t wear my big thick gowns in 2018, I would stand out. You have to adapt and learn to accept change. Childrens clothes are one thing…” Claudia rolled her eyes. “It’s becoming worse and worse in my opinion but I have a personal seamstress, thank god.”

“He wore his favorite old dark coat, a little threadbare but so comfortable, and his favorite old flannel trousers and a fine white shirt Armand had forced upon him with buttons of pearl and outrageous lace. But Louis had never really minded lace.”

— Louis de Pointe du Lac; “It’s Hour Come at Last,” Prince Lestat.

or

Louis happily wearing the slut shirt Armand bought him. not slut shaming, tho. i’m sure he be looking like a snACK.

#are we really gonna ignore the fact that he’s wearing flannel trousers#Louis babe#what the everloving fuck#listen I know you’re trying your best#but Imma need you to try a little harder#like#i understand the threadbare coats and moth eaten sweaters and shit#but I WILL NOT STAND FOR FLANNEL PANTS#that is where i draw the line#the only way to pull off flannel trousers is if you go full punk#listen I own several pairs of flannel/checkered pants and you gotta commit to that shit#you either go balls to the wall with the pants + a plain black tee + a patchy jacket#or you go home#I will not stand for this BUFFOONERY

oh my god check @covenofthearticulate’s tags yo LMAO ikr. When I first read this, I pictured flannel-patterned pj bottoms and was like super horrified. But then I remembered that flannel is also a material, and became relieved when I realized he was probably wearing like classic gray pants made of flannel……but then I remembered we’re talking about Louis here…..and we all know how he is with clothes, so there’s like a 50/50 chance it is plaid flannel….and yeah the horror came book tenfold.

OH MY GOD—@wicked-felina BEING A SAVAGE: #how the fuck does anyone want him in these#briefcase wanker

JUST SEEING IT I DON’T WANT HIM IN EITHER. JUST TAKE THE PANTS OFF, BABE, GIVE ’EM BACK TO DAVID LMAO. I HATE IT.

Okay but I invite you to reconsider your stance on flannel trousers and argue that Louis would look hella good in them and they’re cool af (and because he looks good in everthing obvs)

Do I want to see Louis in ^^^^?

Yes, yes I do XD

YA’LL HOLD THE FUCK UP HOOOOLD UP WHERE ARE MY GLASSES—I NEED TO DO SOMETHING NO ONE REBLOG THIS ANYMORE UNTIL I COME BACK.

OK YEAH YA’LL JUST CONFUSED ME IDK ANYMORE I HATE THIS BOOK FR NOW (and yes kacy imma go reblog the glasses post bc i had to do this all w/o them; also, @sangriche, get in here my friend, i saw that reblog!! join the train wreck) AND YEAH PICK YOUR POISON. I’M DONE.

JESUS CHRIST I DID NOT EXPECT TO START AN ENTIRE THREAD ON THIS BUT I’M CACKLING AT Y’ALLS RESPONSES 😂 God damn it, Louis, why can’t we have one nice thing???

I love that model above. Handsome. I’ve seen him several times, especially in relation to VC/Louis and I am happyier for it. Pretty men make me happy!

  • @princelesthottie your fanart is lovely thank u! Proof once again that, in fact, Louis looks great in everything.
  • @terryfphanatics, Yes Miles McMillan is lovely and a fandom fave Louis faceclaim ❤
  • I’m with @wicked-felina Louis ain’t no #briefcase wanker, that is highly unacceptable.
  • @covenofthearticulate I’m glad your tags sparked this serious discussion, I love it!
  • @theraphaellus I appreciate your trouser suggestions but MIGHT I SUGGEST (these are similar to your 1st pic but tighter and softer-looking, I think)(Also possibly these are lower-riding on the waist, which, yes plz):

^These might be wool but I they could also be flannel. Louis could rock the whole outfit PLUS UNDERCUT. [X model is Mariano Di Vaio]

BUT I, for one, really love the idea of Louis wearing pajama flannels and giving no fucks, too. I mean if he hangs around at home curled up with a book or some other sedentary activity 90% of the time, why bother putting on outside pants??

Daniel has gotten him some ridiculous pajama bottoms with silly pics on them like Hello Kittys and Louis loves them.

Handmade embroidery on European men’s clothing in the 18th century

Hello, mon cher! It is I, Michaela (lixncourt!) and I was wondering if you knew if there were any specific screenshots of that gorgeous silvery-black robe Stephen wore in the film’s crypt scenes. I’ve been trying to find pictures for fan art purposes, but can’t seem to locate them! (And also, I wish you good health and happiness!)

Bonjour Michaela/@lixncourt~* Wishes received and appreciated, I wish you good health and happiness, too!

What an obscure question! I’m impressed. We see this silvery-black robe for like 20 seconds when he’s confronting Louis’ narration, “How did you wrong him? You said a name…”

That WAS a gorgeous silvery black robe, indeed. I’m guessing it was crushed velvet, you can see in the production stills below that it’s got “tracks” cut into it, so idk what fabric would do that, but it doesn’t look like a print to me.

@vinceaddams and @sanguinivora are costume ppl, they might know better what this is… I bet there were more scenes with Santiago in that robe, too, the full “trial” for Louis and Claudia under the theatre! but they were probably cut for time.

I also took a screenshot for you, and even though I tried to brighten it up, as it was a pretty dark scene, I don’t have the BluRay, it’s not the best quality 😛 Maybe someone has a better screencap.

Lestat, how do I look badass while still being girly at the same time?

♛Ah, fashion. One of my favorite topics. So much can be conveyed in fashion, a story adorning the body. Whatever gender you are, clothes do speak for you before you open your mouth. Certain people insist on advertising themselves as the bargain-bin at a thrift store *sharp glance at Louis.*

To your question, badass and girly is a delicious pairing. Think pastel colors bound with harsh blacks or metals. Something innocent coexisting with something threatening.

We’re talking

baby doll dresses, lace, floral prints, mixed with protective gear like fingerless gloves, thick jeans or leather vests. Weaponize it with studs, combat boots. Show you’ve been through battles with messy hair, bunched up in plastic barrettes or wild ribbons. Courtney Love, Taylor Momsen, and my own Tough Cookie have done well with that combination. Bold lipstick and eye makeup if you choose to do so, like war paint.

Think to yourself: My mother made me wear this dress when I was 12, I hated it, and I’m rebelling now when I couldn’t before. Don’t mistake my beauty for weakness, I’m equipped for a physical fight. Steel-toed boots and spiked jewelry are a warning that you make offensive attacks, thick leather for defense. Just because you may have lively colors, florals for peace, and soft textures, you’re no frail creature to be f*cked with.

image

//ooc: @superhiki had a great addition, which Lestat should have stated, but maybe he implied it:

And competence! You can dress however you want and BE a badass by being self reliant! Spikes are a costume, going to the DMV with all the paperwork you need completed filed in a nice folder and the attitude like you’re on a beach and not a rotting government building is arcane badassery that most people can’t handle. Now imagine that control of the situation but you’re also dressed like a fucking rockstar. Powerful.

^Kurt Cobain rocked this look, too.
