has AR ever canonically stated what happens if a vampire eats/tries to eat food? I know they can’t (or don’t) but I can’t remember if she ever said anything specifically regarding food, and I thought I’d ask you since you’re kind of an awesome vc expert haha xD

I’m “kind of an awesome vc expert”? Awww, that’s very generous of you

❤️ I’m not special I’ve just read all these books and talked about them for like 20 yrs ;,D

I don’t think that AR has ever canonically stated what happens if a vampire eats/tries to eat food… I’m not even sure if it’s canon of fanon at this point but I headcanon that they can swallow little sips of liquids other than blood. But not much.

^This is from What We Do in the Shadows, and it’s probably not projectile vomiting like this for Ricean vampires… but it’s hilarious (but GROSS) so WATCH IT (if you can handle the gross). For these and the Ricean vampires, eating people food is bad, but not lethal.

Ricean vampires lose alot of digestive anatomy when they’re turned. So their bodies just can’t metabolize food. Cooking smells are repulsive to them, as Louis describes it in IWTV:

“The slightly nauseating smell of cooking meat… I caught the sweet smell of the spices and the fresh green of marjoram and bay; and then in a wave came the horrid smell of the cooking meat, the blood and flesh decaying in the boiling fluids.“

So if they were to try a bite of a plate of food, it might be like trying to force yourself to eat something inedible, like an old soapy sponge. Unless you’re really determined to eat a thing, you’ll want to spit it out.

I would guess that eating a whole plateful of food would just make them throw it back up, no enjoyment in or out 😛

Not sure about other vampires, like The Vampire Diaries, Tru Blood, 30 Days of Night, Daybreakers, etc.

I seem to recall the Lost Boys vampires were able to eat Chinese food? I don’t remember.

*drops in through your window with VC themed cookies* sorry for intruding, I just wanted to tell you something I realized just now! So, I like art, right? I don’t know jack about it, but I like it. And I’ve been scrolling through some sort of archive for a few minutes, just looking at pictures of paintings from people who like art too, and after a while I caught myself saying “hi Armand” or “hey, it’s Armand” every time I saw a Botticelli angel pop up. VC has ruined me xD

Hello! Ooooh, yummy cookies… We ought to come up with a cookbook of VC themed foods…

You’re not alone in this feeling, @paintedbybotticelli JUST made a post about that, and @eliestela made a comic fanart re: Lestat giving Armand a book of this kind of art w/ post-its asking if any of them are Armand!

Salting sour fruits i.e. lemons makes them sweeter. The salt reacts with the sour acids to make a more neutral chemical. It kills the sour so you can taste the sweet.

Wow. I had no idea! Ya learn smtg new every day 😀

Maybe that applies to fandom in some way, too… bc the joke “When you’re motivated to write smut out of spite,” that’s being salty about someone’s sour opinion about a ship, I would guess, and OP writing smut of that ship just to rebel, that’s the sour to the saltiness?

Salty, sweet, sour, bitter, spicy, umami… all the flavors can be applied to fandom, too, and they’re all of value. We consume canon, fanon, etc… we create our own. This is probably not any kind of definitive statement on flavor (partly bc they’re lumping umami and salty? oddly?) but this article has some interesting info on flavor interactions that could probably be applied to fiction/media/fanworks/etc….

So YEAH in the article linked above, we get these recommendations with cooking that I think applies to fanfic. Maybe this will help someone with their writing!

Lestat, before you became a vampire had you ever eaten a slice of pizza?

//ooc; This sat in my inbox for 3 weeks and I was stumped, but from my research, it’s unlikely that Lestat would have eaten pizza in the Auvergne, as it might have been difficult to make tomatoes grow there at that time. I don’t know when pizza first came to Paris, he might have had it there.

@takemetocoffin-or-losemeforever, my French resource, informs me Lestat might have had tourte aux pommes de terre, which is Auvergne potato pie. It tastes like potatoes and cream, mostly. There might be other pizza-adjacent foods he might have had.

Is there a foodie in the house?

What foods does he miss, though? What foods would he have liked to try that didn’t exist during his time or were prohibitively expensive? Reblog/comment what you think, or message him about specifics.

you know, I’ve always wondered about this… Ricean vampires ONLY drink blood, right? But, why just blood? Because “normal” food doesn’t taste good for them anymore? What it would happen if they try it?? Maybe they’d get sick?? I don’t know, but I would love to find out :p (Btw, LOVE your blog)

Thanks for the blog luerve! <333 I really appreciate it.

Yep, Ricean vampires can only drink blood 😛 In some fanfic, they can take little sips of other liquid, but IIRC, they can only consume blood in canon.

^This is from What We Do in the Shadows. I don’t think it would be exactly like this for Ricean vampires, but it’s hilarious (but GROSS) so WATCH IT (if you can handle the gross). For these and the Ricean vampires, eating people food is bad, but not lethal.

Ricean vampires lose a lot of digestive anatomy when they’re turned. So their bodies just can’t metabolize it. So, cooking smells become repulsive to them, as Louis describes it in IWTV:

“The slightly nauseating smell of cooking meat… I caught the sweet smell of the spices and the fresh green of marjoram and bay; and then in a wave came the horrid smell of the cooking meat, the blood and flesh decaying in the boiling fluids.“

If they were to try a bite of a plate of food, it might be like trying to force yourself to eat something inedible, like an old soapy sponge, maybe? Our body’s way of defending itself from inedible things is to make them taste bad (but then there are people with Pica, who eat inedible things and then there’s the fact that some edible things that are good for you might not be very tasty unless prepared somehow so… idk).

I would guess that eating a whole plateful of food would just make Ricean vampires throw it back up, no enjoyment in or out 😛

@roselioncourt RPs as Rose de Lioncourt, and that muse has experimented with food made from blood. You could ask her about that.

Hey Lestat! What would you do for a Klondike Bar?

♛Well that is a blast from the past, as they say.

I don’t eat those, must watch my figure. That, and they’re completely inedible to me.

It’s depressing that there is so much food and drink I never had the chance to try when I was mortal, many of which didn’t exist where I lived, not even by trade *sigh* And I barely had any appetite for any of it during my… little misadventure.

I have experimentally prodded and tongued at some of these things, the textures, scent, and colors of things are so intriguing! But it all ends up being repulsive.

Probably a stupid question that I missed the answer to somewhere, but what exactly would happen if one of the vampires ate a whole plate of actual food? Is it just nasty or actually bad?srry for dumb Qs

^So it’s not exactly like this for Ricean vampires, but it’s hilarious (but GROSS) so WATCH IT (if you can handle the gross). For these and the
