I didn’t see the Hunger Games so idk about that character specifically but Woody Harrelson is one of my fave actors (especially in Natural Born Killers, Kingpin, White Men Can’t Jump, Zombieland). He is like 85% sass, 10% grump, and 5% extreme joy. Not things I usually associate with Marius, but then… I saw this gif, and it is very much smtg Marius would say to Lestat w/ this exact expression so… you may be onto something there… I’d screentest him.

I know like 3% about opera/musicals/plays so @annabellioncourt helped me out w/ this one. She says (btw this was a chat so italics are my comments and I edited it into this format, and she can correct me however needed):
FAUST – As a vampire he prefers Faust, which is about a man who sold his soul to a devil for youth and fame, and I think its self explanatory as to why he’s drawn to it.
So for Louis, the themes of darkness and the dark side of religion and the supernatural, the cost of damnation, those themes in Faust would stick out to him, even if the story itself is not one he approves of. The audience is not supposed to like the character of Faust.
Don Giovanni is just an amazing show, and was incredibly popular during the 19th century. As a mortal, Louis had a soft spot for Giovanni (but never admitted to liking anything other than French opera). It’s about a man who’s a womanizing creep, but at the end he’s dragged to hell by demons and the ghost of the father of a woman he wronged. In opera, the themes and music are always more important than the story.
Phantom of the Opera: (technically a musical but still) Louis would definitely enjoy POTO.
Les Mis: Lestat tolerates Les Mis bc even though its not THE French Revolution, its anti-aristocracy themes bother him.
Lestat loves some of the characters in Les Mis tho, like Enjolras (who he says looks like him). Louis enjoys it; he finds it patriotic.
Elisabeth, the German musical:
Its a rock musical and Louis would love this. The “Der Tod,” his character is basically Lestat. It’s about the Austrian empress and her life, as well as a love triangle with herself, her husband, and Death himself. Der Tod is German for Death. And he’s a main character.
Louis would probably enjoy any of the “traditional” musicals, but the more rock based ones would be more up Lestat’s alley.
If nothing else, you better believe it’s gonna be the best fish story you ever heard!

We really don’t know much of the story, just that it involves Lestat and Atlantis, so we’ve been making alot of mermaid jokes but we have no idea whether there will be any. Check my #PLROA tag, that’s where I put stuff about it as more info comes in.

I’ve been holding this message for awhile bc there are parts I don’t like that much either. There are parts that are boring, problematic, or other reasons not to like it.
Some ppl in the fandom actually HATE Lestat w/ a burning passion. They read the series for their love of other characters. There are ppl who adore Armand and pretty much just focus on his book and read the other books for snippets about him, which is totally fine!
Any story/movie/music/etc. (including VC) is like a bruised banana. Can you eat around the parts you don’t like and still enjoy the banana? I can. No one is forcing you to eat the whole thing. Skip the parts you really don’t like. You can always go back and read them another time.
What do you love about the series? Just stick with that!

Maharet’s information is good because it offers insight as to why Akasha is the way she is, and why she treats ppl the way she does. It’s good bc it sheds more light on the vampire origin story that will be developed much later in Prince Lestat. It’s good bc Maharet is one of the matriarchs of the species and she is a well-written female character in a series dominated by men.
Lestat’s getting new powers but each upgrade pulls him further away from the humanity he so desperately wants back, so the trade off, and how he deals with that later, is all good stuff. He’s uncomfortable exercising his new abilities. These upgrades also make him incompatible for Louis, who doesn’t want the powers or enhanced durability, so from QOTD onwards (until a later book in the series), Louis won’t drink Lestat’s blood. This makes bloodsharing (which is the Ricean form of intimacy) for them completely one-sided; Lestat can take blood from Louis but not give it back ;A;
Denial: “I don’t have to read canon or fanfic or post meta about VC in my free time. I can stop whenever I want. They’re just a pile of dysfunctional vampires anyway.”

^Oh wow, this may actually be the source of many ppl’s headcanon on this! We can’t expect you to disagree w/ a translator but for them to define it that way would certainly influence your headcanon…
BUT I just CANNOT ACCEPT THE IDEA that they are all walking around w/ permanent boners, as Louis would say: “I can’t. Or more truly, I will not.”
I just feel like it would have gotten alot more canon support if that were really the case. It’s referred to as being like the rest of their flesh, which is usually just compared to marble.

It’s especially flattering that you say I answer things in a hilariously Lestat-like way bc his positive attributes were an inspiration to me when, as a small fanged little trash kitten, I needed that so much. I feel more like myself when I’m interacting w/ ppl with some of his brand of optimism and charisma, which was not so much that I absorbed his, it was more that I recognized it was always there inside me, latent and sleeping, and needed to be reignited ;D
Plus, we all had to hide our love for this fandom in the dark ages before the internet really brought us together, and then some of us also suffered the war on fanfic. Unlike many other current fandoms, ours was crushed and couldn’t blossom until more recent years. I’m so grateful that we have these spaces now and that fandom is recognized as a more legitimate thing these days, we have more than shadowed spaces now! It’s very Lestat in TVL, drawing the Children of Darkness out into the modern world to enjoy the things that are out here to be enjoyed.
“Just remember: life – without me- would be even more unbearable” will always be one of my fave quotes bc there were times when it was very true, and currently, VC is still a positive presence for me, and it’s heartwarming to know it’s that way for others, like you, too! *hugs*

I feel kind of married to this fandom and I treat it that way, like a significant other. We’re our own individual ppl but I like to think we compliment eachother; we all have our own talents to contribute, even if being an audience member for the fanworks is all some of us do.
Sometimes we fight, and there are times we disagree with canon, but we get through things regardless bc there’s a shared loyalty there and that’s a beautiful and precious thing. It’s fragile, too, and needs our commitment to survive.
