You’d think, for one of the fandom’s main ships, there would be more of it explicitly canon. There just isn’t, sadly. But Lestat pines for Louis QUITE ALOT. In the immortal words of @hyperbeeb, “Now matter how hard you ship Louis and Lestat you will never ship Louis and Lestat as hard as Lestat does.” [X]
Part of why it’s such a tough ship is that AR just does not let us have much in terms of fluff of them! It mostly happens off-screen. Which is where fanfic steps in to satisfy that need ;]
what’s with all these stories of hundred plus year old vampires falling in love with teenagers like yes they might LOOK your age but you’ve got a few centuries of maturity on them I want vampires falling in love with 40 year old suburban housewives and business executives and preschool teachers not high school students
vampires falling in love with spry 90-year-old great-grandmothers
What an interesting ship that could have been, too. Daniel could have brought out Louis’ sense of humor, which he DOES have. Daniel basically did ask Louis to turn him and got majorly rejected. Louis was only interested in a kayak for one at that time, or to draw Lestat out from wherever he was by painting him as a horrible monster to provoke him into breaking out a can of whoop-ass or correct the record, or both.
Gabrielle/David – Regardless of potential compatibility Lestat would have an opinion on this:
“DAVID’S MY BAE MOM!!!” *huffs*
Gabrielle/Jesse – yes.
Gabrielle/Marius – I think she’d have the same issue w/ him that she had w/ Lestat; Marius is a man of civilization. He builds a big sumptuous nest wherever he lives, w/ all the amenities. She might visit but she’d never stay. Marius holds onto beauty, Gabrielle wants to experience it and search for more. Intellectually they probably would argue all the time, like Marius did w/ Pandora, bc Marius thinks he knows everything about everything but he’s not as “with it” as Pandora and Gabrielle are.
Gabrielle/Pandora – Maybeeee… but Pandora had some serious issues, re: confidence. I don’t remember how or when that was resolved, but she was very dependent on Arjun, in a way that I doubt Gabrielle would tolerate, even in brief moments.
It’s worth mentioning that in another thread, in another topic, AR is asked about “But as a long time fan, I’ve ( and many other fans, I´m sure..) never understood the whole “Lestat and Louis- thing” and I think in a psychologically way it is also very interesting. Please, can you POFOUNDLY explain this whole relationship?”
^What CAN she really say that would change one single line in any novel about her characters? She’s told us the story, she’s saying it’s up to us to interpret it however we choose. #Your Headcanon May Vary.
Questions like those are the kinds of things that make her want to explicitly spell it out for us (through Lestat’s POV, in PL, here):
““I love you,” I whispered. In a low intimate voice, [Louis] answered: “My heart is yours.””
In writing/storytelling, as in art, there’s the old adage “Show; Don’t Tell.” In this age of social media where we can ask the artist/storyteller anything, should we? Why do we need her Official Confirmation? It doesn’t hurt to ask, but one should take the answers with a grain (or truckload full) of salt.
It seems to me that it’s better to read the story and have your own interpretation, “Read between the lines,” rather than have it broken down and explicitly stated.
No one is saying you/we can’t have them, but I think it’s bc VC ships began sailing before ship naming was thing (which I think began gaining traction with Ben Affleck/Jennifer Lopez being “Bennifer” and Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie being “Brangelina”). Our ships were sailing even before “shipping” as a term was a thing! That said, I seem to recall seeing “Loustat” as a ship name for Louis/Lestat in the past few years, but can’t think of any others.
Go ahead and name your ships if you like, we’ll see if any catch on!
There are a couple of things about current shipping culture that confuse me.
1. The focus on whether or not a pairing will become canon as a reason people should ship something or not. Do you not understand what the “transformative” part of “transformative works” means?”
2. This idea that saying “I ship that” means “I think that, as presented in canon, this is a perfect, healthy relationship that everyone should model their relationship after.”
Sometimes shipping something does mean that. Sometimes shipping something means “Person A is a trash bag who doesn’t deserve person B but I would love to explore how Person A might grow to deserve Person B.” Sometimes it means “I want these characters to live together forever in a conflict free domestic AU.” Sometimes it means “I want Person A to forever pine after Person B. Nothing is beautiful and everything hurts.” And sometimes it just means you like their faces and want to see Person A and Person B bone in various configurations and universes.
Listen to your parents, kids.
This really should be one of a handful of Public Service Announcements randomly and chronically inserted into one’s dash.
its not always about sex
condoning a ship or actions in a show doesn’t mean that you’re committing to say that’s a healthy relationship?
you cannot/should not petition the writers of a show with your opinion to change the show purely to satisfy your ship.
shipping something doesn’t give you the right to shit on other people’s ships??? if you’re shipping a typical relationship and someone else wants something dark and awful just to explore those mental dimensions then fucking let them
Lestat: *takes a deep breath*
Lestat: i lo–
anyone who has spent 5 seconds around him, ever: yes, you love Louis. we know. you love Louis so much; he’s the light of your life, you love him so much. you just love Louis. we KNOW. you love Louis. you fucking love Louis, okay. we know, we get it. LOUIS. WE GET IT.
