Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles Optioned by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content – Dread Central

vampchronfic:

Mostly the same information as the Looper article with a few added tidbits.

“It is undeniable that Anne Rice has created the paradigm in which all vampire stories are measured against. The rich and vast world she has created with The Vampire Chronicles is unmatched and sophisticated with 90’s Gothic undertones that will be perfectly suited to captivate audiences, … We are thrilled to collaborate with Anne, Christopher, and the team at Anonymous Content on this epic series.” – Amy Powell, President, Paramount TV.

IT’S maybe possibly like 2 molecules closer to HAPPENING!

“Together with our partners at Paramount Television, we are embarking on a fantastic journey with Anne and Christopher Rice to bring Anne’s unparalleled imagination to television at the moment when the medium is experiencing a global apex in the demand for the most outstanding, exciting, and heightened premium dramatic programming”, says Anonymous Content’s David Kanter. “The Vampire Chronicles, in its entirety, is not only a phenomenally complex universe of storytelling, it is also a world-wide readership whose connections to the books and their author are deep and abiding. It is a tremendous responsibility to help bring the books to television, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity.”

^OK IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS PEOPLE ARE LEGIT VC FANS. That’s a requirement, in my mind. Are they fan enough to help pull off a mostly faithful-to-canon adaptation? As my Dad says, ‘the proof is in the pudding.’

I checked out the Anonymous Content website, and they seem to be able to pull off a wide range of projects. From commercials to music vids to movies like the Revenant, which I still haven’t seen but I’ve heard great things about, I think they have a generally solid mix of glitz & glamour and dirt and grunge and intellectual stimulation and yes, even some comic relief, all things I think we need in VC. Amy Powell is right, VC is “sophisticated with 90’s Gothic undertones”, so where movie!QOTD certainly USED 90′s Gothic aesthetics, I would recommend that Paramount and Anonymous Content should watch that movie and see what parts worked, and what parts didn’t. Along with movie!IWTV and Lestat the Musical.

BTW Anonymous Content did the following which I really enjoy…

Also, re: the story line, from CBR.com:

Anne Rice Plots Vampire Chronicles TV Series:

Anne Rice previously noted that the series likely will not touch on the events of “Interview with a Vampire,” but will instead pick up with its sequel “The Vampire Lestat.”

So it will start w/ TVL. Makes sense.

@firelight-fading had done a great breakdown of stuff directly said by AR re: the story line of the TV series, go check out the post with that info, bc I would bet that AR is sticking to her guns on all points. Would we expect anyone to be able to bully her to compromise on her vision? NOPE.

What is happening? I’m off tumblr for 2 weeks and suddenly there’s … WHAT going on?!

AR has the rights back to the VC to make adaptations, the new book is crackier more imaginative!! than we ever could have imagined, there’s an official VC FB asking for casting suggestions and some have been… also imaginative (did I hear Orlando Bloom suggested for Armand? And Sebastian Stan for Louis?)…

I love that we’re all excited and horrified and stimulated by all this! IDK KNOW WHAT TO TELL U OR ADVISE YOU I CANNOT EVEN I DON’T KNOW MY OWN HEART ON THIS IT’S SO FRUSTRATE it’s a good frustrate tho. Like trying not to scratch a mosquito bite but if feels so good to do it but you know you’re making things worse, even when it starts to bleed it feels good!! that’s sort of how I feel.

*~snacktime~*

^yah so I don’t have access to any photoshoppin’ tools rn but whatever… that is yours truly and @roselioncourt.

So LOTS of things happening and tbh I’m a little overwhelmed by all the info we’ve gotten in the last week, and the posts in response, some of which I’ve seen… and I was trying to keep up w/ it all on my phone the whole frickin’ time it was happening (I have 100+ tabs open *laughcries* and the phone is not a happy camper)… it’s a little overwhelming.

As Ron Swanson famously said: “Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing.” I’m gonna whole-ass all the things when I have the time this weekend, I got all your messages and plan to do massive replies. Also need to make a post about the PLROA booksigning, I took notes (altho there is a video of it on the official VC FB).

… I also have to read the new book (!!!)… I asked for spoilers and you should know that I *facepalmed* or “Oh, Anne”’d at almost every new piece of canon information.

#the real story behind #Queen of the Damned #he’s not proud of how he handled that ex girlfriend situation #live n learn amirite? #or not #OH WELL

Hello there! I think you’d know this, I tried searching on my own but wasn’t succesfull so! I recently read the first three vc books and was thinking of reading prince lestat next, but is that possible? like are there some major plot lines i absolutely have to read from the other books before reading pl? (ofc i’ll read the other books eventually, too) thanks so much!! also your blog is rad

Yasss my blog is rad thanx ❤

I think you should read #4 before PL. It’s got a lot of David Talbot, who you only know a teeny bit at the end of #3. He’s… different in PL.

I feel like skipping to PL, you miss other adventures and character development, amusing lines… pages about how beautiful Louis is, lol… I just feel like reading them in order is a richer experience.

At least you have more of an appreciation for the other main characters since you know their background.

Prince Lestat CAN be considered a stand alone, AR said herself it can be treated like that. It’s just so stand alone that I consider it very Alternate Universe. You’ll see what I mean.

*sigh* It’s so strange that ppl want to rush to PL, but I guess it’s bc it’s the currently newest VC and the upcoming book is a sequel to it.

Also, almost 2 yrs since its release, I still refuse to accept PL as canon. It’s AU to me.

This isn’t so much of a question as it is a compliment. Thank you for being so sweet and accepting, and hilariously Lestat-like with others questions! I have been a fan of the books for so many years but was always so intimidated by its fan base, enjoying from the shadows, as it were. I hope I do not erroneously think it safe to come out of my hiding place (sort of…) with this comment!

Omg what a thing to say to me thank u so much! *flails* YOU ARE SO WELCOME AS ALWAYS. You’re still on anon, so you’re not risking anything, but feel free to step into the light. What have you got to lose?

[X digging up an oldie from the archive, mon dieu using Impact was still in fashion! But the sentiment is still true.

It’s especially flattering that you say I answer things in a hilariously Lestat-like way bc his positive attributes were an inspiration to me when, as a small fanged little trash kitten, I needed that so much. I feel more like myself when I’m interacting w/ ppl with some of his brand of optimism and charisma, which was not so much that I absorbed his, it was more that I recognized it was always there inside me, latent and sleeping, and needed to be reignited ;D

Plus, we all had to hide our love for this fandom in the dark ages before the internet really brought us together, and then some of us also suffered the war on fanfic. Unlike many other current fandoms, ours was crushed and couldn’t blossom until more recent years. I’m so grateful that we have these spaces now and that fandom is recognized as a more legitimate thing these days, we have more than shadowed spaces now! It’s very Lestat in TVL, drawing the Children of Darkness out into the modern world to enjoy the things that are out here to be enjoyed.

“Just remember: life – without me- would be even more unbearablewill always be one of my fave quotes bc there were times when it was very true, and currently, VC is still a positive presence for me, and it’s heartwarming to know it’s that way for others, like you, too! *hugs*

That is what I want as my legacy, just remember that I was crazy and I made you happy, and/or inspired you in at least some small way, bc that’s what VC has done for me.

Cut for sappiness…

^AU where I am Mrs. Lincoln and the rest of the fandom here is Mr. Lincoln ❤ bc that is what I want as my legacy, just remember that I was crazy and I made you happy.

I feel kind of married to this fandom and I treat it that way, like a significant other. We’re our own individual ppl but I like to think we compliment eachother; we all have our own talents to contribute, even if being an audience member for the fanworks is all some of us do.

Sometimes we fight, and there are times we disagree with canon, but we get through things regardless bc there’s a shared loyalty there and that’s a beautiful and precious thing. It’s fragile, too, and needs our commitment to survive.
