Lestat has saved my life. He doesn’t know it but I adore him. I guess i’m just a silly fangirl but I cant help but feel so grateful to him (lord knows his ego doesn’t need it) and when i meet his eyes in photographs it’s as if he knows. I wish I could speak to him and thank him. But he’d ignore me if i ever got the chance, i’m a nobody.

♛ Dear anonyme,

You are absolutely not a ‘nobody.’ Haven’t you noticed how I address my readers at almost every opportunity? “So until we meet again, I am thinking of you always; I love you; I wish you were here… in my arms.” My actual published words. I adore you. Silly fangirls, serious fangirls, silly fanboys, serious fanboys, agenderfans, even the ruthless critics, all!

These “Vampire Chronicles” are my life, laid out as honestly as possible for you. Perhaps in my search for goodness, I’ve already found it in sharing my stories. With you.

Do me a small favor, Anon: please give yourself some of the love you give to me. For the courage it took to write your message, and too many other reasons to list here, you deserve it.

I’ve explained this to another person like you… I’m an actor, as you know already, but beneath the performance must lie real substance, real experience, in order to engage with you, the audience. What good is the best performance from one of the greatest actors (ME) if there is no audience? You’re needed, every last one of you. Actors feed off their audience’s reaction, though the lines may be the same, it’s never the same show twice. Even when you read my books a second, third, fourth time around, you bring different life experiences of your own, and though the plot points are the same, your reaction to it is not.

What are my books but stories? And what are stories? Experiences in someone’s navigation of life, “Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer/The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,/ Or to take arms against a sea of troubles/ And by opposing end them…”

I have always wanted you to experience my journey, be my captive audience, and learn from my example, whether I was being “good” or “bad” (or somewhere in between). Perhaps you can learn to take arms against your sea of troubles the way I’ve done, or suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune as I’ve suffered… more than one lifetime’s worth of both.

I know these stories have had an impact on you, on many. Have I saved lives? Like yours? I hope so. Killing evildoers is one way to save lives, writing is quite possibly another way. My autobiography had been intended for Louis, to give him everything I wouldn’t give him before that point. To save his life, if he was at all thinking he might end it. The fact that the novel touched so many lives in such a positive way made me want to share more. And more!

So ever since I’ve seen Interview with the Vampire I’ve always wondered about a certain scene in the movie. How does Louis drink blood from that women and kiss her at the same time? Did he just bite her lip or something?

Y’know I don’t know exactly what was going on but she was in some kind of fabulous ecstasy to not try to stop him notice him basically biting her tongue and sucking on it… Supposedly Louis can Spellbind ppl w/o consciously trying, this is one of his Gifts.

…but also Lestat is doing most of the “work” for him in this scene, she’s probably reacting to that more.

I don’t think there are any major arteries in the mouth that he could have hit, so it’s just, IDK, tongue blood. And he is spilling some. Seems like alot of effort and not much dinner for him. When we see her mouth again, her lips look a little bloody but not damaged, so he was either biting her tongue or the inside of her mouth somewheres. #kinda ew

Probably a stupid question that I missed the answer to somewhere, but what exactly would happen if one of the vampires ate a whole plate of actual food? Is it just nasty or actually bad?srry for dumb Qs

^So it’s not exactly like this for Ricean vampires, but it’s hilarious (but GROSS) so WATCH IT (if you can handle the gross). For these and the

Ricean vampires, eating people food is bad, but not lethal.

Ricean vampires lose alot of digestive anatomy when they’re turned. So their bodies just can’t metabolize it. Cooking smells are repulsive to them, as Louis describes it in IWTV:

“The slightly nauseating smell of cooking meat… I caught the sweet smell of the spices and the fresh green of marjoram and bay; and then in a wave came the horrid smell of the cooking meat, the blood and flesh decaying in the boiling fluids.“

So if they were to try a bite of a plate of food, it might be like trying to force yourself to eat something inedible, like an old soapy sponge.

I would guess that eating a whole plateful would just make them throw it back up, no enjoyment in or out 😛

Not sure about other vampires, like The Vampire Diaries, Tru Blood, 30 Days of Night, Daybreakers, etc.

I seem to recall the Lost Boys eating Chinese food? I don’t remember. Try askavampirologist for non-Ricean vampires!

What kind of poetry do the VC vampires like? Vampires like Lestat, Armand, Louis, and Marius. Or any other vampires you want to add. Which poet are they fans of?

[text from here] [devilsfool helped me w/ this answer]

I am actually a terrible resource for this question bc I… *gasp* do not really ‘get’ a lot of poetry! I only really like a few poets… like Shel Silverstein (he can be very adult and subversive, btw), Dr. Seuss (who tucked the richness of political/other messages into his works), and other “children’s” authors

yes don’t even think of mocking me on that ok i like what i like, and tbh I headcanon that Lestat has a passion for these, too, since he never got bedtime stories with illustrations as a child (and it’s why he read bedtime stories/poetry to Claudia well beyond the time when she could read to herself bc he loved impressing her with acting out the voices).

  • HOWEVER. I do love me some Shakespeare, and I think that counts as poetry, and Lestat loves him some Shakespeare, too. That’s canon. He mentions Keats in TOBT as he’s refurbishing the Rue Royale “Ah, wasn’t  it the ode by Keats which had inspired that long-ago purchase? Where  had the urn gone?” He also mentions Milton in that book. IDK if he read them but he came into possession of a collection of poetry by Wynken de Wilde in MtD.
  • Book-IWTV!Lestat is not wild about books of poetry, ditching Louis one night with a cruel little snap: “Read your damn poems, then! Rot!”
  • Lestat also considers music lyrics to “count” as poetry and might get all excited about a new track by Kanye WestEminem or Macklemore. I think he’d be especially drawn to freestyle rap battles.
  • Louis quotes from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, so I would assume he liked (at least at that time) that kind of story/poetry: macabre, dealing with religion v. nature undertones
  • I see Marius as liking the quirky poetry in the New Yorker, and Stan Rice’s free-form style, as he likes to study emerging trends in thoughts.
  • David Talbot likes Blake, the Tyger features in his… trajectory, shall we say.

…The rest I leave up to annabellioncourt,

devilsfool, fyeahgothicromance, gothiccharmschool, and duendology, who are probably better resources on this topic. Oh, and of course, anyone else who sees this and has an opinion please feel free to reblog/comment ;D

Hey so I thought I knew shit about iwtv but my friend reblogged some gifs of armand but it was some cute blond guy??? And she said you’re the mothership of the fandom so pls explain I know nothing

Mothership of the fandom well that is a new title and flattering indeed! Idk about mothership but I am highly knowledgeable and pretty damn well organized with my tags when I’m not metatagging with my silliness, which makes it easier to answer these kinda questions.

Wellll I would need to see those gifs u mentioned but I would guess they are of Bjorn Andresen, who has been used as a face claim for many Armand RPers over time… sadly he is now 60+ yrs old but we can still adore the ~Amadeo perfection~ that he once was:

[that last one by vampchronfic]

Hey do you think Louis has an obsession with boobs or does he just blatantly like them? Silly question I know but in some books he likes to describe them and look at them. I think he does a lot of that in Merrick.

Louis blatantly likes bewbs. That’s practically canon. Look he has his hand on her cleavage here – altho it is pretty far above the boobs – but that is no accident!

image

Obsessed with? Idk if I’d use that word. But yes, he does describe bewbs often (although in Merrick, it’s David telling that story, and it seems that HE is the one obsessed with her bewbs in particular).

Madeleine knew she had phenomenal boobs and wielded their seductive power like a pro:

Louis was partially under Armand’s spell here, but Madeleine totally used her bazongas to completely bewitch Louis into giving her what she wanted (IWTV):

“’ `If you were a mortal man; man and monster!’ she said angrily. `If I could
only show you my power…’ and she smiled malignantly, defiantly at me `… I could make you want me, desire me! But you’re unnatural!”

Ooooh burn! She basically just called him NOT A MAN. That her powers only worked on men with working man parts. Claudia might have told her about that.

“’… What can I give you! What can I do to make you give me what you have!’ Her hand hovered over her breasts, seeming to caress them like a man’s hand.”

^I think they teach strippers to do that to excite their audience.

“It was strange, that moment; strange because I could never have predicted the feeling her words incited in me, the way that I saw her now with that small enticing waist, saw the round, plump curve of her breasts and those delicate, pouting lips. She never dreamed what the mortal man in me was, how tormented I was by the blood I’d only just drunk. Desire her I did, more than she knew;….”

If the VC chrachters were the greek gods ,what god do you think will fit each ?I think Gabrielle will make a PERFECT Artemis wnd Armand a good Hermes indeed

Ooooh! VC chars as Greek Gods!

I did these based on character and not on the gods’ family tree bc that would’ve added more consideration and this is more fun so shut up.

[All descriptions from Wiki-to-the-pedia.]

Lestat = Dionysus – Let’s just get that out of the way right now bc it’s easy. And in fact I think Neil Jordan would agree; he has Lestat playing with a bunch of grapes in movie!IWTV and that could be a reference to Dionysus. God of wine, parties and festivals, madness, chaos, drunkenness, drugs, and ecstasy… He was depicted in art as either an older bearded god or a pretty effeminate, long-haired youth.

[fanart by Dany&Dany]

Gabrielle = Artemis – Works except for the virgin part, but I’ll let you have this one, Anon. Virgin goddess of the hunt, wilderness, animals, young girls, childbirth, plague, and the moon.

Louis = Apollo – Not that Louis is skilled at making music, but he does have a very deep appreciation for music, art and literature, poetry specifically, and also he’s drop-dead-gorgeous so y’know, there’s that. PLUS, this would make him Artemis’ twin brother and that works, too, if Gabrielle is Artemis! God of music, arts, knowledge, healing, plague, prophecy, poetry, manly beauty, archery, and the sun… In sculpture, Apollo was depicted as a very handsome, beardless young man with long hair and an ideal physique. As the embodiment of perfectionism, he could be cruel and destructive (OH LIKE BURNING DOWN BUILDINGS?), and his love affairs were rarely happy WELL THAT SOUNDS LIKE POINTE DU LAC.

Armand = Hades – Okay I love Armand, but this is more for when he was the coven master!  King of the underworld and the dead, and god of regret.

Daniel = Hermes – I actually think Daniel fits this better by the description than Armand, since it was Daniel who started what would become the written record of the Coven of the Articulate: God of boundaries, travel, communication, trade, language, and writing… Hermes is the messenger of the gods… He was depicted either as a handsome and athletic beardless youth…

Marius = Zeus – Okay so I am running out of dudes at this point, but actually, Marius is a father figure at least through books #1-4. In a way he was the Patriarch of the vampires while taking care of TWMBK. King and father of the gods, the ruler of Mount Olympus and the god of the sky, weather, thunder, lightning, law, order, and justice.

Pandora = Athena – I actually struggled with Pandora, probably not as self-confident as Athena, but she has the debate, wisdom, peace skills so there u go. Goddess of intelligence, skill, peace, warfare, battle strategy, handicrafts, and wisdom.

David = Poseidon – Okay so I picked this one based more on the physcial description but also bc David is strong, and David first act as new vampire was to take a swim in the ocean. God of the sea, rivers, floods, droughts, and earthquakes. In classical artwork, he was depicted as a mature man of sturdy build with an often luxuriant beard, and holding a trident.

Maharet = Demeter She was the Matriarch of the coven and the Mayfair family so all that motherly stuff. Goddess of grain, agriculture and the harvest, growth and nourishment.

Jesse = Hestia –

Works except for the virgin part, but Jesse doesn’t seem to have had notable ships in her life so this works well enough. Virgin goddess of the hearth, home and chastity… she appeared as a modestly veiled woman… In some accounts, she gave up her seat as one of the Twelve Olympians in favor of Dionysus, and she plays little role in Greek myths.

Mael = Ares – God of war, bloodshed, and violence…  Homer portrays him as moody and unreliable.

Akasha = Hera  Queen of the gods and goddess of marriage, women, childbirth, heirs, kings, and empires… Her sacred animals are the heifer, the peacock, and the cuckoo.

I just read you Lestat/Life = OTP answer to the anon, and a thought came into my head: Do you think through the series Lestat, as you said, has so many different lovers and so much love to give because that’s just what he’s about, or do you think it has a little to with AR needing to give him new lovers as the series progressed to keep things interesting and give the reader a new way of connecting with him? (Also: my headcanon where Lestat just owns a bunch of fluffy dogs that make him happy).

[This post right here, is the Lestat/Life OTP post, if anyone wants to catch up]

BRACE YOSELF FOR A WALL OF TEXT™©®

…like GDI YOU ASKED FOR IT.

^This is like the only time they hold hands in the movie ;A; not ghey enuf

I think I can say w/ 100% certainty that AR did not set out to write the Vampire Chronicles as we know it now. When her original short story of IWTV was published in 1973, she didn’t plan for a 2014 VC that diverged from canon, sinking several ships in its wake (including Lestat/Rowan).

No, I don’t think the VC relies on Lestat’s romantic relationships specifically to keep the series interesting and keep ppl connecting with him. There are ships in canon other than whoever Lestat is throwing himself at! Armand/Daniel, for example. Marius/Pandora. Marius/Amadeo.

Of course, I’m sure some readers need the romance in VC in order to stay interested/connected to it, and that’s fine, too, but I would ask them to consider looking deeper.

TL;DR: Lestat is all about love, yes, but not necessarily in pursuit of specific ships. He’s filling a void that was made in his childhood and no one seems to be enough to fill it other than simply the pursuit of it. AR does throw in a little fanservice now and then, but I think she writes for deeper reasons, and the romance aspect – or lack thereof – is part of her exploration.

Hit the jump for more. I also address your doggie headcanon 😉

AR wrote the first short story basically to ask why her daughter died of leukemia. She wanted to interview God, the Devil, and/or Death himself. She wanted to know: Was she and/or her husband being punished for being bad Christians, or was their daughter a bad Christian? When a parent loses a child they want to know why. So she made Louis, and he answered her, “There was no reason, that girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don’t serve Heaven or Hell, I was just hungry, I’m sorry, I feel like shit. Also, blame Lestat.”

Then she had to interview Lestat and find out where the evil comes from. How evil can he be, when he was forced into vampiring, totally against his will?

Everything else that followed in the series stems from that central question. Why do bad things happen? Why do people do bad things? What if the person doing the bad thing did it accidentally? Or they feel terrible about it? What if they are trying to change and be better? Why do they want to be better?

Lestat strives to be good bc he wants love. He is making up for an enormous void, his formative years spent mostly unloved and untouched, a childhood in which the only love he got was from his animals, the teachers in the school he briefly went to, the theatre troupe he ran off with, and a teensy bit from his mother. When he expressed himself, he was often shot down, and with beatings.

He knows the equations he’s been taught:

  • Be Good —> Get Loved.
  • Give Love —> Get Loved.
  • Be in Control —> Take Love.

So I think his huge heart is a hungry one, he can’t get enough, and he can’t seem to get enough from one person. I think he’s afraid of commitment. To commit to one person is to risk that person having too much control.

Having lots of relationships, well, I do think AR was doing a little fanservice when she set him up with women. That was probably a response to so many POTP begging her to set him up with a woman for a change.

But I on the other hand, I feel like alot of his dating record is unsurprising. Who can predict their future lovers? I think we can all learn from our past relationships, and that improves subsequent ones. Lestat does tend to repeat some mistakes and he does have issues with consent in relationships, but he at least is good at confessing these things and presumably working on them.

We all agree Lestat is a dog person!

He had a pack of them as a mortal, and yes, I think he’d love to own a bunch of fluffy dogs that make him happy! But dogs do not like vampires:

“I’d expected to hear from [the dog] before this time, for surely it would pick up my scent, know instinctively that I wasn’t human, and then begin to sound its natural alarm of growls and barks. Dogs had done that enough to me over the centuries, though they don’t always. Sometimes I can entrance them and  command them. But I feared the instinctive rejection and it always sent a pain through my heart.” – Lestat, Tale of the Body Thief.

That’s part of what made Mojo so special, that he seemed to override whatever natural dog instinct with love for Lestat ❤

Lestat also has expensive tastes in terms of furniture and fashion, and that’s incompatible with having a pack of dogs. People with even one dog have to dog-proof their home to some extent or risk sacrificing things to a curious doggie.

And plus he’s a wanderlust, he likes to just up and leave for long periods, and he can’t leave a pack of dogs with Louis to babysit. Plus, he knows he can’t be there for all those puppies during the day when they need to be walked and run around, so I would imagine he would have to set them up to be taken care of on someone’s huge farm or wherever so he can play with them occasionally when he needs a good dose of animal therapy ❤

also Lestat how was it to give that one girl her very last foot popping kiss?

♛I assume you mean this – very expensive – lady of the night?

I give many people their very last “foot popping kiss.” The act is different for everyone, although I admit that I do enjoy such displays of unleashed passion, when the victim’s mind is completely swept away in the best orgasm of their lives and their bodies can no longer defend themselves against it, no silly societal shame or embarrassment, just a quivering mess of fleshly bliss.

Having Louis there watching me always adds a layer of extra thrill. Even when he was being a rebellious child *laughs* He’s much more involved and deliberate in his actions when we share now.

Add to all that the other lady of the night, unaware of what was happening so close by… and her little hand on my leg, such a skilled touch, she had absolutely shared men with her partner-in-crime before, and she knew just how to stimulate. I didn’t even know that area behind the knee was such an erogenous zone before, this old dog is always learning new tricks *winks*
