lestat what do you think about depression and or mental illness?
♛I think they are very real and they cause suffering for those who carry them.

Depression is a familiar emotion for me. I saw it in my Nicolas and ignored the signs, thinking I could fill the void he carried within him because he meant absolutely everything to me. He might have even led me to believe I was helping him, but when he could no longer play along, well… that was the end of us.
I’ve known depression. I wouldn’t know if it’s the “normal” amount we’re meant to experience as opposed to the deeper kind Science has discovered; more to do with brain chemistry than anything else… but mine was a sludge that seeped out to greet me whenever I returned home as a mortal boy, to a family that ignored me at best, and physically beat me on a regular basis at worst. A terrible, sinking feeling.
I felt it when I found out about Nicolas’ death.
I felt it when my mother, my only companion, disappeared one night without leaving any way to contact her again.
I felt it when I looked into my daughter’s crystal blue eyes and no longer recognized her.
I felt it when I had been essentially murdered and left for dead. More than once. Physically and psychologically broken, cocooned in a derelict old shelter, barely able to feed, embracing the dust and the moldy floorboards for months at a time. Self-imposed solitary confinement. Prisoners at least have their meals delivered to them.
The road to recovery from all those and more has not been easy. I am still drawn back down that spiral by a phantom Vaudeville hook, always hovering just off-stage for me. Being alone, well, no one can hurt you, no one can leave you. So I understand those who choose to suffer alone.
I’m doing well now. Others in the coven tease me for my materialistic ways, and yes, this is a new pair of sunglasses. It’s less about the ownership of things and more about the ease in going out and interacting with the salespeople, the moving men, the accountants. Being out there amongst people.
Being there when Louis wants to curl up on the Italian silk couch with me under a cashmere throw. The flat screen showing us so much detail that it’s as though we truly are outside in a gondola at the magic hour, when the sunlight slants in diagonally. The waters are blue.
Life, in almost any form, is worth living, as bad as it can seem. It’s worth the effort.
Ok so I’ve only read IWTV and I was obviously captured by it and cried more than once haha. I saw the movie years before and only recently read the book. But I didn’t really pick up on the emotional connection to Lestat that you always elaborate on.. I totally see Lestats obsession with Louis, that much is obvious. But throughout IWTV, Louis seems to range from hatred to disinterest, to pity, with no real love besides the initial wonder. Is this b/c I only read the first one? Or whats your take?
So Louis’ emotional connection to Lestat, and the fact that it wasn’t really visible in IWTV.
The really short answer is that I believe in Louis’ love for Lestat so much that I can’t quite pinpoint the evidence for it! I think it’s from reading further books and seeing Louis from other ppls’ POV, who can describe his love better than he might be able to admit.
“Louis, the watcher, the patient one, was there on account of love pure and simple. The two had found each other only last night, and theirs had been an extraordinary reunion. Louis would go where Lestat led him. Louis would perish if Lestat perished.” – Khayman, Queen of the Damned.

TL;DR: You gonna have to read The Vampire Lestat to get that connection.
These are actually pretty appropriate here:

So, yes, I think you’re somewhat right when you say that in book!IWTV and movie!IWTV, it seems like the only feelings Louis has for Lestat are:
- a “range from hatred
- to disinterest,
- to pity,
- with no real love besides the initial wonder.”
Louis is baffled by a lot of the things Lestat does in IWTV, he disagrees with Lestat’s philosophy (which is unclear in IWTV in both versions), and until Claudia rebels against their maker, Louis stays with Lestat because YES, he is still fascinated with him, he doesn’t know of any other vampires, and he’s sure he can pull more of the mysteries of life out of Lestat about vampiring, and his place in the scheme of things (whether vampires work for God or Satan is a big question).

^At the end of IWTV, Louis does meet up with a very incapacitated Lestat. Lestat says in the next book that this scene never happened.
Whether they met like this or not, Louis clearly is “empty” at the end of IWTV, and he wants to find Lestat, but how’s he going to do that? Check the Yellow Pages? It would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
IWTV is like a Batsignal from Louis to Lestat to call him out of wherever he’s hiding. Some of the story is embellished (or maybe even invented) to paint Lestat as a bizarre antagonist. This is all to get him ANGRY ENOUGH to rise up out of hiding and FIND LOUIS. Whether to retaliate physically, and finally end Louis’ misery, or correct the record by putting out HIS side of the story, and everything he couldn’t tell Louis during IWTV.
Which is exactly what The Vampire Lestat is, and that’s why you need to read it ❤

Reflecting today…. As is Lestat ! Interview with the Vampire was indeed an incredible journey and experience for me as a Makeup Designer and Department Head. It takes a great team in every department to turn out a film of this caliber. #micheleburke #burke #burkemakeup #makeup #mu #lestat #interviewiththevampire #iwtv #vampire ⭕️

Did Louis actually visit Lestat in IWTV when Lestat went back to New Orleans to rot in his house? Because Lestat didn’t mention that Louis had visited him in “The vampire lestat”. Lestat only said that Armand visited him and that he knew that Louis was in New Orleans. Thanks for clearing up :)
Ooooh good question! In IWTV, Louis says that he did visit Lestat (and it was in the movie).

We actually don’t know if it happened :-
- book!IWTV has Louis following a young vampire to Lestat’s door.
- In the Tale of the Body Thief, Lestat says it never happened.
We have discrepancy in canon. Your headcanon may be that it happened, and someone else’s may be that it didn’t. With Louis’ book, was he telling his tale to try to call out Lestat? Maybe he knew that inventing a scene like this might provoke Lestat to respond. If so, it worked, Lestat wrote TVL as a response to IWTV. Also, Louis told his story to Daniel, who then had to send it to his editor(s), so maybe it was invented by someone other than Louis for whatever reason.
So who do I believe? Umm, I don’t think Louis is a liar, and I don’t think anyone invented it. Lestat has said, “I never lie, at least not to those I don’t love.” which means that he DOES lie to those he loves.
I’m going w/ Louis on this and saying that it happened as Louis described it.
1. Book!IWTV:
“Because shortly after that I saw a vampire in New Orleans, a sleek white-faced young man walking alone on the broad sidewalks of St. Charles Avenue…” (this mystery vampire kills a woman and takes her baby to a shabby old house where he meets up with another vampire) “My eyes widened as I studied this stooped and shivering vampire whose rich blond hair hung down in loose waves covering his face… I saw clearly, unmistakably, the profile of Lestat, that smooth skin now devoid of even the faintest trace of his old scars.”
BTW, it’s implied that that young vampire was one of Lestat’s own fledglings (another mystery fledgling?!):
“ `You all leave me!’ he whined now in a thin, high-pitched voice.“
(Louis taps at the window)
…” `It’s Louis! Louis!’ he said. `Let him in’ And he gestured frantically, like an invalid, for the young `nurse’ to obey. … and I could see the tears welling in his eyes…How baffling and awful it was, this smoothfaced, shimmering immortal man bent and rattled and whining like a crone.”
2. HOWEVER…
In Tale of the Body Thief, Lestat calls Louis a liar, and I think he’s referring to the whole visit scene:
“Ah, that makes you out to be a perfect liar,” I said furiously. “You described my weeping in your miserable memoir in a scene which we both know did not take place!”

oh lestat, you deserved everything that’s ever happened to you. you better not die. You might actually go to HELL.
