Hi Lestat, can I come to you for romance advice? Is it bad that I’m jealous of my two best friends (a guy and girl)? We both like him, too. I always feel like a third wheel when it’s the three of us. I feel like they will probably get together soon and they would be cute together, but it kinda sucks. I don’t really know what to do. Maybe you have some good advice (from experience). Thank you Lestat (:

♛This is something I have yet to master myself. I’m more in love with myself than anyone else, so really, when people choose each other over me, it’s more their loss than mine.

It hasn’t happened yet, be glad that your friends are still just your friends. So no need to be truly jealous yet. But yes, being a third wheel is not much fun.

image

([X] //ooc; ^L/L didn’t do this so explicitly in front of her, but I imagine that’s how Claudia might have felt in general ;A;)

I don’t know enough about your situation to advise you one way or the other, but it is possible to let them date each other if that’s what happens, and their happiness can be your happiness, you don’t have to dump them both as friends just for leaving you out. They’ll still need you separately, if they valued your friendship in the first place.

image

You can ask them not to slobber all over each other when they’re in your presence, though, that seems like a reasonable request.

Of course, if Louis and David “got together” as they say, and left me out, I’d have a tough time being happy for them. Very tough. No. Impossible. They’re not allowed. Absolutely not!

The main thing to remember is that finding a mate shouldn’t be your mission. If it happens, it happens, and if not, then not. But you should never feel lesser because you’re single. Friendship is as valid as a romantic relationship. In some ways, even more difficult. Different definition of intimacy. I’ve known people whose relationships were based mostly on sex and they had little else really in common. It was enough for them, but it wouldn’t be enough for me.

If they do start dating each other and you can’t be happy for them, you should probably not torment yourself by being around them. Focus on other things you’ve been meaning to do, or meet new people.

//Apologies if I’m remembering incorrectly, but didn’t they give Mojo to an older lady to take care of him, and they sometimes visited…?

You’re right, yes, they did do that in canon, but there is fic in which they eventually brought Mojo to live with them in their home, around the clock, until he grew old (I assume they still dumped him on the little old lady when they went on trips and couldn’t bring him along). So I’ve accepted it as my headcanon ;]

Hey Lestat! Do you or any of the VC vampires like snow? By the way this is coming from a person who lives in Minnesota and recently has it’s first major snowfall. Not sure how many inches we got but it’s a lot.

(@thelionscrimsonclaws wrote a gr8 response to a similar ask about snow, very poetic, very touching <3)

♛Minnesota, hm? We do travel to places to ski and romp in the piles of white stuff that we wouldn’t get in New Orleans. Might have to go there next…

image

We love lounging in a cozy cabin to watch the snow fall outside the windows… nothing quite like the inner peace and contemplation snowfall can bring.

Yes, we love snow. Most of us aren’t bothered by the cold. Louis is, and he will allow me to bundle him in enough layers so he can ski with us, or build snowmen and igloos. However, when he’s warm enough from a fresh kill, he just might strip off enough layers to regain flexibility of movement, he is a masterful snowball assassin, slinking around the forest like a ninja!

I call Armand “Panchino” sometimes and he doesn’t know why…

image

Louis what do think about Lestat’s dog, Mojo? Do you like pets or Lestat brings animals despite it drives you crazy?

♠(Louis) It took me some time to warm up to him, and he to me, since our first meeting had gone so badly, but he became a loved member of our home. Lestat does not usually bring home animals. He has plenty of other ways to drive me crazy. As a mortal, I loved horses, and still ride them now. There is a cat who visits. We kept caged birds for some time. In general, I don’t like to keep animals.

image

[X] Animals instinctively reject us and it is rare to find one who sees us for who we are rather than what we are, and Mojo was such a creature. He could absolutely understand everything we said, and he spoke to us in his own way, we learned his huffs and barks and those happy whines when we would both give him our full petting attention. Lestat still makes some of those noises, secret code sounds which only we know. Mojo has left an indelible mark on us.

*sighs* Mojo was in a way our furry son, and we had to make the hard decision to give him mercy at the end of his life. Letting him go was painful, to say the least.

“I wonder, could you ever turn animals into vampire-animals? Like, can you turn a cat? A dog? A lion? O.o”

In ‘Tale of the Body Thief’, Mojo goes to lick Lestat’s face and (I think) he had blood tears on his cheeks. Lestat gently pushed Mojo back and tells him he must never, never taste the blood—something similar to that, anyway.

Yes, I do remember that scene, but Lestat doesn’t make any comments in canon at that time about turning him.

I always read that moment as Mojo licking his face like he would for a normal crying human, that Mojo ignored the taste, that he did it purely to comfort his big awkward bipedal yellow puppy son ❤

“Lestat look, Louis got me a puppy for the upcoming Christmas! Can we keep him?” -livingdollclaudia

♛”Claudia, did Louis really gave that to you? Please don’t lie to me, ma petite…” Lestat sighed. He reached out to pet the dog’s soft floppy ears.

image

“No, we cannot keep a puppy. Who would play with her all day when we’re asleep? It wouldn’t be fair to her.” More truly, Lestat was concerned about the inevitable damage to their home during the day, and, that Claudia might get hungry one night and kill the poor animal herself. This had happened before with a rabbit, she spent nights sobbing remorsefully over it, and none of them needed to endure that again.

I wonder, could you ever turn animals into vampire-animals? Like, can you turn a cat? A dog? A lion? O.o

((When I was 11, I wrote a terrible short fanfic from the POV of a vampire dog which Lestat had turned as an experiment. I don’t remember anything about it except that the dog was pretty happy as a vampire dog… it’s lost to time and space forever. Just thought that might amuse you!))

IDK about vampire animals in other media, I’m sure someone has done it, but IIRC, they’re not in VC canon at all. I don’t know if AR has considered it, with all the implications that follow. Could the world survive packs of vampire dogs and cats? Herds of vampire horses?

Vampire

Lions?

Vampire

Tigers?

Vampire

Bears? Oh my…. Could a vampire chimpanzee (or rat!) turn a human into a vampire? Would it matter if the animal was a herbivore or would it have to be an omnivore, like humans are? If the vampire lab in PL is still running, maybe they’re experimenting on animals. #FIC REQUEST.

In some religions, animals are considered not to have souls at all, or that they lack the same type of soul that humans have. in VC, the soul seems to be a crucial element in anchoring the vampiric spirit to its host body during Dark Gift transfer.

Also, just physiologically, not all infectious diseases are transmittable between animals and humans. For example, humans cannot get Feline AIDS and feline leukemia virus (FeLV) from cats [animalplanet.com].

  • Zoonotic diseases: diseases transmitted from animals to humans through media such as air (like influenza) or through bites and saliva (like rabies).

  • Reverse zoonosis: human viruses that infect other animals.

I headcanon that vampirism is not a reverse zoonotic disease.

Recycling this from a previous answer; It’s funny you mention vampire animals bc the question was raised, when old age finally started to rear its ugly head for Mojo…

Lestat: What if we could heal him with-

Louis: NO Lestat. No.

Lestat: Just an experiment to-

Louis: We’re not making a vampire dog that’s a crime against nature we have to draw the line somewhere.

Lestat: *pouts*

Louis: *glares*

Lestat: *pouts harder*

Louis: *glares harder*

Lestat: Ok confession time: I already tried to give him a few drops of blood and he was not at all interested. Repulsed really.

Louis: *ragged sigh*

Lestat: It was worth a try!

Louis: Then why were you even asking me?

Lestat: I thought he might prefer yours

Louis: *slaps Lestat hard across the face and storms out*

I remember hearing about (but not reading) Bunnicula, “a children’s book series written by James Howe, featuring a vampire rabbit that sucks the juice out of vegetables,” but I know that’s not quiiiiite what you were looking for, lol.

image

^Lookit the widdle fangs! Bunnicula even has the classic “widow’s peak” hairline in their fur like Dracula *u* and a “cape” in the fur?? I think it’s been adapted to an animated series, too.

Other quotes I found about animal-human disease transmission:

  • “While most feline infectious diseases affect only cats, and most human infectious diseases affect only humans, it is important to be aware that some of these diseases—called zoonotic diseases—can be transmitted between cats and people.” [X]
  • “The general rule is that viruses have a narrow range of suitable living conditions (ie body temperature, metabolism etc) and are not easily passed between species. There are some exceptions to this, but the common cold is not one of them and you will not pass it on to your cats, it cannot live in their higher body temperature.” [X]

Also relevant is zombie animals. In The Walking Dead, there are no zombie animals, and I found a forum where ppl were discussing it (walkingdeadforums.com), whether it’s true that the original comic artist set the canon for that bc he “does not enjoy drawing animals so much,” or whether there might be a scientific reason for it…. Zombie animals are as equally debatable as vampire animals!
