@artisticfreedomofexpression:

Found this on my Instagram and immediately thought of you. I hope you’re well, and having a lovely day! 💖

I LOVE THIS!! Great find, @artisticfreedomofexpression. Definitely brightened my day *hugs tightly*

Do you remember if it felt at all weird to suddenly have fangs? I mean, the mouth is designed to fit normal teeth, not extended canines. Did you ever cut your lip while talking or anything?

devilsfool:

It took a little getting used to, but human beings have always been adaptable, and becoming a vampire didn’t change that. I don’t have memories of cutting my lips or doing any significant damage, but I do remember dealing with the sensation of longer teeth. It was definitely an adjustment, though not so big of one as worth mentioning.

Every vampire’s fangs are different. I’ve never mentioned that, have I? Some of us have two, some four, some six. By this I am speaking of teeth along the top of your mouth, not the bottom–Louis and I have joked before during discussions that perhaps the number of fangs have something to do with the appetite, but in reality I’ve no idea what the deciding factor is.

I have primaries, secondaries, and tertiaries, as did Claudia, though Louis only has primaries and secondaries. Gabrielle is the same as Louis–four fangs.

My maker had primaries only–I do remember that.

Honestly, someone ought to do a scientific study of all one day. I’m sure the Talamasca has all sorts of interesting information regarding it buried away somewhere.

Hey Lestat! I’m a huge fan! I’m looking for a set of fangs I can wear for Hallow’s Eve or on other occasions when I need a confidence boost, but I want to be as realistic as I can. Would you recommend a style, find me a picture (or take one!) of fangs as close to the ones you have as possible? If nobody makes them properly, I’ll at least need a picture so I can make them myself, since I know where to find all the necessary tools. Thanks in advance!

♛Of course you’re a huge fan of mine, how could you not be? *smiles*

Fangs do give mortals a noticeable confidence boost; every version of myself I see on the streets of New Orleans is just oozing with it. Even those masquerading in cosplay as Armand or Louis take pleasure in flaunting their fangs.

The only fangs I “make” are the ones grown naturally by my fledglings or the one custom pair that I discussed previously, which were realistic in shape but not material. Take note, I actually have six upper fangs. I don’t know why. Something to do with our appetites, perhaps. That’s all the advice I have on that.

//ooc; so Lestat obviously can’t really take a picture for you! But here’s a pic of Brad trying on fangs for IWTV. More angles here [X]. They did two sets in IWTV, these are the “attack” or “wide-shot” fangs, longer than the normal ones so that they’re visible from a distance.

Claudia’s here are shorter, possibly bc she was a child, but also bc Michele Burke was going for a vampire makeup in which at first the vampires looked like normal people, but w/ something slightly *off,* that they could conceal the fangs when speaking, passing for normal people, or reveal them if they chose to do so.

what is my life that I’m drawing whiskers on a pic of Brad Pitt from 1992 or ‘93 and indicating which of his teeth would be fangs OH WELL

^Basically you want the fangs to be long enough to be visible but not interfere when you close your mouth, so they’re really more draping along the outside of the lower teeth. To get that canine point looking sharp, curving it back like a snake’s makes sense.

The IWTV fangs also involve the lateral incisor, the tooth between the front and the canine, and here it’s also kind of pointed backwards here but I think Tom’s was done straighter. It also looks like Tom had the first premolars as fangs, too, but I’m not sure. Doing the lower canine is a thing other vampire media does, often. I’m not sure if they did that for IWTV. I don’t think so since this post has Brad’s fangs for sale on eBay and it’s only the upper teeth.

I imagine straight or curved, having one or two neighboring fangs would be beneficial for gripping a struggling victim’s flesh, sharing the strain put on the canines.

Elaborating on your last post about fake fangs, what do you know about fangsmiths? Are those fangs durable? I’m just so curious because they sound awesome!

Hello! I am actually… really passionate about this and I’ve thought about doing it for myself, too! For now I settle with fanart of me w/ fangs…

[^Portrait of moi by the amazingly talented @vaciel, it’s a WIP, I hope they finish it someday][Ya can’t see them but I would have the canine fangs, too, you can only see the

lateral incisor fangs here

(that’s the tooth between the

front tooth and the canine)]

I actually don’t know the specifics, it depends on the fangsmith, but we have a few

fangsmiths

brought into Halloween Adventure here in NYC leading up to Halloween every year to make fangs, so you might get in touch with that store. They would probably need to be done in person so that the fangsmith can take a cast of your teeth so that their fangs will fit perfectly (my little story about the custom fangs, well, Lestat sneakily gets the cast by making the molds himself w/ Brian, during an evening of experimentation with Alginate ^____^ ) I’m pretty sure the fangsmiths all make their fangs removable.

One fangsmith, who I think is one of the Halloween Adventure ones, is Father Sebastiaan, and he has a gallery and prices. He has a list of pointers about his fangs that are probably true for other fangsmiths:

  • “Fangs color match your teeth.
  • They will last 2-3 years with good care, longer if you are careful.
  • Not wise to sleep or eat with them.
  • OK for smoking, drinking coffee, tea, alcohol, absinthe and sex.
  • Made from high quality dental acrylics.
  • 18 years of fang making experience.
  • Good for singing.
  • Feel like your real teeth when being worn.”

This is one of the customers in his gallery:

^IWTV-style fangs, I think, bc this dude vampire has the lateral incisors done, too ❤

Hit the jump for a little more, anyone w/ more info is welcome to share or tag someone who does!

I’ve also seen my fair share of custom fangs made by dentists who are willing to do cosmetic work, like the plastic surgeons who are willing to make your ears pointy for superficial reasons. Much more expensive, I would assume. Here’s a picture of a fan at a booksigning for PL in ‘14 who I think had permanent fangs and hers were… in my opinion… too big. She reminded me a little more of a sabretooth tiger than a vampiress but hey! It worked for her.

image

[X] Sorry for the low-res, it was hard to get any snaps of her! Her fangs were concealed when her mouth was closed, but her lip was pushed out to make room, I guess, and I think she had a little difficulty talking. Hers seemed very durable.

Dear my Charming Prince Lestat, in a post over a year ago you mentioned having made custom fangs made for a friend of yours molded off of your own. May you pretty please – with a blood drop on top – elaborate on that? And Louis, what was your reaction to Lestat getting his tattoo? (Your words, not his)

Oui, ma petite. I did mention that particular gift *smiles* and it is a gift that keeps on giving… It was a gift for a mortal we have grown extremely attached to, allowed his life to tangle into ours, and shared some very intimate evenings together. “Ours” not in the royal sense but in the Mine and Louis’ sense.

image

Our beloved Brian Callahan drove into our lives one night by chance; he was assigned to chauffeur us to the airport on a night that we preferred mortal transit. Since then, he became a personal assistant, friend, and then even closer as a lover for one or both of us at different times… It’s difficult to say that fate was not involved. I don’t know that I would call it fate that brought Louis and I together, but a similar invisible thread must have brought Brian to us as the one that brought Louis and I together.

During our more intimate moments, I’d wanted to see Brian with fangs of his own, wanted him to be able to pierce our flesh without hand-held blades (even as erotic as seeing him with an antique razor has been) or having us do it for him, but there is more consideration to be had over whether he wants the more permanent fangs. The custom fangs are fashioned of a white pearlescent metal that he can remove, but again, they are not just for show; the intention was for them to be functional and they are reinforced enough that he can truly bite, quite firmly and pleasurably. What he has are stunning and vicious training wheels *flicks fangs* We all enjoy them.

I will add here that the fangsmith who made his fangs had been very impressed with mine, and asked me, repeatedly, “Who did your work?” and refused to believe that they’re real. Finally I told him, “Magnus.”

And the fangsmith said he’d never heard of that designer. I replied very curtly: “He’s French and he’s dead.”

…Louis will answer your other question separately, about the time I had “Property of Louis” tattooed across my chest just to rile him, it was a trick that could only be done once, and his reaction far exceeded my expectations!

//ooc; I meant to write that fic about the custom fangs, and it’s @vampchronfic/@gairid‘s OC, Brian Callahan (click his name for more about him, but if you really want to get to know him, you’ll have to read Gairid’s fics on AO3!

Also, wow, I am beyond flattered that you dug that deeply into my archive to followup on that. *hearteyes* I had asked Gairid if I could write that fic with her OC, and she’s even given me notes and encouragement for it, but like many fic ideas, it’s fallen to the backburner.

Your ask has renewed my interest in it… and maybe I’ll try to actually write it. Thank you for that!

^All of which also applies to the tattoo thing, too! We’ll see what Louis says in his answer about it.
