Yes they do!

Don’t gamble on anything with Louis. Even sports. He keeps up w/ stats, but more importantly, he can size up a team pretty quickly and estimate their odds with a lot of accuracy.

He also loves Drew Brees from the Saints bc of course he does… (oooh I get to dig an oldie up from the archive, I made this for @gairid​ ages ago!)

Lestat cannot be trusted to go to a live game bc he “encourages” streakers, and can be really embarrassing on the Kiss Cam. Daniel will never forget the game he went to with Lestat in which Lestat sloppily made out with him for the longest 6 seconds of his unlife on the Kiss Cam, for no other reason than because ‘Stat knew Armand was watching the game at home.

Lestat also, of course, loves beach volleyball bc of obvious reasons. Louis secretly agrees and would never admit it, but Louis loves a good rack.

Armand is into the more graceful kinds of athletics like ice skating and tennis. He skates himself, and sometimes rents out a rink and has a vampires-only skate party where he choreographs elaborate performances.

Marius likes watching diving and swimming competitions. Something about the sleekness of the athletes touches his soul.

Comparison of ironwork on balconies in New Orleans and New York. An unintentional collaboration by @gairid and @i-want-my-iwtv, 3 years apart.

I’ve walked by this balcony on 54th street dozens of times and felt this nostalgia, where was that feeling coming from?! Now I know! My friend @vampchronfic has been using the NOLA balcony shot as their header image! Little piece of NOLA right here in NY *u* I would bet the NOLA balcony was made first, since it has more details and dimensionality, but maybe simplifying that was a design choice for the NY client, since we have harsher weather to contend with here.

Do you remember if it felt at all weird to suddenly have fangs? I mean, the mouth is designed to fit normal teeth, not extended canines. Did you ever cut your lip while talking or anything?

It took a little getting used to, but human beings have always been adaptable, and becoming a vampire didn’t change that. I don’t have memories of cutting my lips or doing any significant damage, but I do remember dealing with the sensation of longer teeth. It was definitely an adjustment, though not so big of one as worth mentioning. 

Every vampire’s fangs are different. I’ve never mentioned that, have I? Some of us have two, some four, some six. By this I am speaking of teeth along the top of your mouth, not the bottom–Louis and I have joked before during discussions that perhaps the number of fangs have something to do with the appetite, but in reality I’ve no idea what the deciding factor is. 

I have primaries, secondaries, and tertiaries, as did Claudia, though Louis only has primaries and secondaries. Gabrielle is the same as Louis–four fangs. 

My maker had primaries only–I do remember that. 

Honestly, someone ought to do a scientific study of all one day. I’m sure the Talamasca has all sorts of interesting information regarding it buried away somewhere. 

Women are socialized to make men feel good. We’re socialized to “let you down easy.” We’re not socialized to say a clear and direct “no.” We’re socialized to speak in hints and boost egos and let people save face. People who don’t respect the social contract (rapists, predators, assholes, pickup artists) are good at taking advantage of this. “No” is something we have to learn. “No” is something we have to earn. In fact, I’d argue that the ability to just say “no” to something, without further comment, apology, explanation, guilt, or thinking about it is one of the great rites of passage in growing up, and when you start saying it and saying it regularly the world often pushes back. And calls you names.

Fanfic?? there’s no such thing as VC fanfic… pfffft. What are you crazy honestly??!

I have a huge list of faves. HUGE. But the thing about VC fanfic is that we still have to be sort of careful about sharing it bc of reasons (under the cut if you wanna know why). 

MY faves may not be what you’re looking for as I tend to skew L/L, since they are the OTP I am hopelessly afflicted with, but I have some drabbles and links to fic saved with other characters in my #fanfic, and #damn you and your perfect headcanon perfection tags here. There’s also some fine stuff in the @vcsecretgifts​ archive.

has a mission statement about protecting fanworks from copyright infringement arguments, so I feel pretty safe recc’ing stuff that’s on there:

  • Gulfport: A British Petroleum Fanfic (Part One) by hw_campbell_jnr  – There are 2 parts and it’s incomplete but this is devastatingly beautiful long!fic. Hipster modern Lestat and Louis, Lestat going by a pseudonym, politics woven in, it’s just too good. It annoys me how good it is. I am annoyed. I would be less annoyed if it were COMPLETED.

In short, Anne Rice had waged war on VC fanfic in the mid-90s, sic’ing her lawyers on many fanfic writers, eventually breaking apart fanfic sites (“speculative fiction” or “spec” archives/communities) and driving many of these writers to stop writing altogether or do so in a more underground way.

Currently, she’s had conflicting stances on fanfic, but hasn’t made outright war at nearly that level. We try not to tag her in discussions of it, basically, we don’t try to provoke her by making our caches of VC fanfic known. Especially on Facebook, where she’s very active and might see it. She posted this on her FB in 2014 (I think):
