I feel like all the Vampire Chronicles books should just be renamed with a brief description of whatever adventures Lestat got up to in them
So books 1-10 would become
- Lestat’s Adventures with a Progressive Family
- Lestat’s Bisexual Adventures in 18th Century France
- Lestat’s Adventures with the Queen of the Vampires
- Lestat’s Adventures as a Human
- Lestat’s Adventures with Satan
- Lestat’s Adventures in a Coma
- Lestat’s Adventures with Polyamory
- Lestat’s Adventures in the Deep South
- Lestat’s Adventures with Not Being There At All
- Lestat’s Adventures with Witches and Other Weird Shit
11. Lestat’s adventures with Being the Vampire Head of State
12. Lestat’s Adventures with Literal Fucking Aliens
So like everyone else who is in the Vampire Chronicles fandom(I enjoy this fandom very much) they have learned that our beloved books will be turned into a tv show (really excited but also nervous). I’ve noticed that lots of people talk about who should play Louis, who should play Lestat, and who should play Armand and so on and so on but I’ve never heard anyone talk about who should play Claudia. Who do you think should be casted to play Claudia?
Yes, I obvs enjoy our faction of the VC fandom here too! We’re all excited/ nervous/other… some ppl have nope’d out entirely, it’s a big mix *hugs*
Casting Claudia will probably not be an issue if they start with TVL, bc Claudia’s only in IWTV, and just mentioned in later books. It seems like AR really loves movie!IWTV, so I doubt she would redo that book.
But… let’s cast an actress as Lestat’s little sister for TVL, the 8th de Lioncourt child, and then have her play Claudia, too! The resemblance would be so heartbreaking! ;A;
For funsies tho, I must inform you… awhile back, @hyperbeeb suggested Mia Talerico [X], who just turned 9 on 9/17, and I have to agree!

[^She’s the kid from the “confused baby” meme!]
Mia’s had a long career already (IMDB says she was eleven months old when she started filming Good Luck Charlie, so that’s 7 yrs of acting, being directed, being comfortable in front of the cameras, etc.). I Perusing through gifs of her (thank u @child-actor-gifs!), I think she’s got what it takes. Physically, who can deny that she’s super cute, w/ doll-like features as described in the books, fiercely intelligent, adorable smile, and naturally blonde already (so we can save a few $$ on hair dye!).

^Here she is a little older. She almost looks like she plotting here… Look what she’s doing with her hands, conscious acting choice? I think so. Imagine she’s crushing a (breakable prop) porcelain doll’s face into shards instead! Yissss…

^Perfect disingenuous apology, very Claudia.

^”I want more…” hugs? Sure you do.

^So yeah let’s hurl her at AR!
(ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧
I think we could also find a great child actress on Insta or YT, some fresh kid whose experience comes from making short vids under adult supervision so they are already accustomed to taking some direction bc kids are notoriously difficult to direct. I love Katie Ryan on Insta (@katieryan430) … It’s frickin’ BATS.
IIRC, there was alot of difficulty finding a 5 yo talented enough to play Claudia in movie!IWTV. Kirsten Dunst was the first they auditioned of one hundred actresses, varying in amount of experience, from around ages 5-12. The 5 yr olds struggled with the intensity that the part required… so I wouldn’t mind if they aged her up to 10 or 11. If they cast a 5 yo who looks perfect but can’t act like the frustrated adult inside, it won’t really work.
If Claudia’s in the new adaptations at all, I think it will be as a ghost (in later books, she sort of haunts the Rue Royale, Louis, and Lestat), which could also be animated and voice acted by an adult.
@cloudsinvenice had suggested Shirley Temple ages ago and I kinda love that, too!

Hey Vampire Chronicles fandom, in preparation for the new book coming out can we agree on some sort of acronym or other short form to talk about Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis? Because I will be liveblogging this on mobile and I don’t particularly want to type out Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis spoilers for every post (i am lazy and have trouble with the touch screen keyboard) so is there another, shorter way we can refer to this new book as that we can all agree on?
I’ve been tagging it #PLROA. Pronounced “P’Lore-Ah”
Yes please liveblog it! I’m gonna be reading it with adult beverages so my first read-through may not be 100% coherent all the way through…
No matter how hard you ship Louis and Lestat you will never ship Louis and Lestat as hard as Lestat does.

replied to your post “I may feel bad for saying this, but I really, kind of don’t want there…”
if the stand fandom doesn’t call themselves the standom they’re missing a major oppurtunity
omg so true!

I’m not sure if you’ve talked about Only Lovers Left Alive, but how well do you think Lestat would get along with the characters from that movie. I feel like he’d have a soft spot for Adam (a musician) and Eve (an intellectual), but would maybe have mixed feelings for Ava who is a little reckless.
I looooooved Only Lovers Left Alive! So many similarities to VC, I could write a thesis on it, but those characters were also beautiful in their own story. So many questions about them! I want the backstory on all of them. WHAT HAPPENED IN PARIS 87 YRS AGO?

^Bad things happen in Paris in VC, too ;A;
But look at these cuties awwww… the OLLA vampires’ personalities are totally compatible w/ VC, they seem to be characters first and the vampiring is secondary.

The OLLA vampires have different physiological rules from the Ricean vampires, and those rules dictated how they live. For one thing, Adam and Eve have arrangements w/ mortal agents to get clean blood rather than risk taking victims, whose blood could be tainted w/ modern disease or drugs, which OLLA vampires are vulnerable to. So no funtimes hunting evildoers like Lestat :[ They also don’t seem to need to drink as much blood as Ricean vampires do except for Ava bc she’s Claudia.

OLLA vampires can also stay awake during the day if they want to but are still highly flammable to sunlight, so they can probably pass as mortal somewhat better than Ricean vampires do. Eve has a sensory gift in which she can “read” the history from touching an object!
You asked about Lestat specifically, but Louis and Adam would totally bond over poetry and literature. Lestat and Eve (and/or Ava!) would go out to dive bars and rock out. Ava’s similarity to Claudia would make her an ideal hunting buddy for Lestat, but her recklessness would definitely irk him when he realizes he can’t reign her in. Ava seems as insatiable as Claudia, and even MORE selfish.
As @hyperbeeb put it so well [X]:
I’ve fully just accepted that [the OLLA vampires are] a part of the VC universe but have managed to stay out of the way of the wacky bullshit that affects the rest of the VC characters (probably due to the powers bestowed on Tilda Swinton from being an alien goddess). But maybe one day they run across Louis and Lestat and become so incredibly grateful that they don’t spend time around these other vampires (even if Lestat and Adam talked about music for like 8 hours and Lestat told Louis for days afterwards that Adam was like him except better… but less pretty don’t be offended Louis)
Hit the jump for moar pics and thoughts…
Some more comparisons bc of reasons:

^Never in the house you naughty girls!

^Little sisters to big bro/sis: “We are going to have S O M U C H fun”

^Adam would appeal to Lestat in his similarity to Nicolas, w/ the tortured musician thing and similarity to Louis with his fascinations with things (and he’s a slim brunet w/ a lot of soul like BOTH of them). Adam seems even less interested than Louis in fashion and material possessions, and his home is as disorganized as I would imagine Louis’ would be (Adam has nests of use, w/ items roughly clustered by category). I would hope that Louis takes better care of his stuff, tho. Adam and Louis both considered suicide a very real option but couldn’t do it themselves; fortunately, their loved ones dragged them back from the edge. Nicolas allegedly did suicide in canon, but there is fanon that he’s still undead, kicking around in secret.

Eve was definitely like Lestat in her confidence, curiosity for even the smallest things. Fearless, outgoing, very fashionable. Blood popsicles! She also has some positive Marius qualities to her, in that she had been turned a VERY long time ago, and is largely at peace with the way the world changes around her. Lestat would be intrigued by her tactile gift, too.

Ava is very Claudia, aged up, more optimistic, her default mood is generally pretty happy, even though it seems like she’s a pro at being kicked out of groups. Her mood can shift quickly, she’s selfish, flashy, silly, impulsive. She might have been turned anywhere from 16-24 yrs old. She even disregards the #No Killing Friends in the House rule! This is probably how Claudia would have been if she had been turned later in life.
Bonus: Adam + Louis eyerolls

FebruaryMarch Film ReviewsDay 24: The Hunger
I’ve reviewed a lot of queer female vampire seduces innocent female mortal movies in this series. What makes The Hunger better than all the rest? David fucking Bowie.
If you only care about the queer lady aspects of these reviews, please skip this paragraph because I need to talk about the immortal space traveling lizard person that is David Bowie. David Bowie is great in this. He plays Catherine Deneuve’s mortal lover who is kept young through her blood but his time runs out and he starts rapidly aging in the first act. I’m really impressed with his performance here. Bowie really made me feel this sort of panic of not only his sudden lack of desirability to the woman who he loves who also sustains him but increasingly his sense of impending doom. I give him major props because playing a man confronting aging is a reach for David Bowie who doesn’t age as us mere mortal earthlings do. Bowie gave a really affecting, chilling and emotional performance that’s the best I’ve seen from him. I’m also impressed how he managed to tone down his whole Bowie-ness and not steal the show from Deneuve too much or clash with the tone of the movie.
So after Bowie starts to age, he visits Dr. Susan Sarandon who’s a dermatologist who he hopes can help him. She cannot and Bowie eventually ages so much that he becomes little more than a skeleton though still conscious. One of the creepiest scenes in the movie comes when Catherine Deneuve places him in a coffin in a room full of all her other lovers who have had the same fate. That’s a great addition to the vampire myth and really scary. The idea of being conscious but unable to move or speak is terrifying and it’s made worse by the fact that you’re also stuck in a coffin. For the lovers of Catherine Deneuve’s character Miriam, the last memory they have of her is betrayal.
Once David Bowie’s become not a valid prospect, Miriam sets her sights on Susan Sarandon and uses her vampire seduction powers to enthral her. This plot line is pretty similar to every other queer vampire movie I’ve reviewed. The difference is the ending. Unless most of the innocent mortals, Susan Sarandon does not turn to the dark side of immortality, blood drinking and scissoring but instead fights back against Miriam and what she represents. Ultimately though, the victory belongs to David Bowie skeleton who leads Miriam’s other past lovers in a skele-uprising and ultimately kills Miriam.
This movie is fucking great. It’s got vampires, lesbians and David Bowie. It’s atmospheric and creepy and overall fucking brilliant. The last scene is a bit disappointing because there’s a lame bit of sequel bait but I can live with that because the film overall is so damn quality. Go watch it.
30 Day Vampire Chronicles Challenge Day 9- favourite quote
“There’s no way to cheat a sensualist like me, somebody who can die laughing for hours over the pattern of the carpet in a hotel lobby.”
-Lestat
I really connect with this quote because just as Lestat spent ages laughing at something not actually that funny, I spent ages laughing at this fucking quote
#The Vampire Lestat #Actual 7 year old
Do Louis and lestat have a romantic relationship throughout the whole series? Or is it over after IWTV/TVL? I haven’t read that far and I’m curious, because they’re my favorite couple
Yes, they do, but it’s mostly between-the-lines ;A;

[I’ll warm your cold blood by DrKav]
You’d think, for one of the fandom’s main ships, there would be more of it explicitly canon. There just isn’t, sadly. But Lestat pines for Louis QUITE ALOT. In the immortal words of @hyperbeeb, “Now matter how hard you ship Louis and Lestat you will never ship Louis and Lestat as hard as Lestat does.” [X]
Part of why it’s such a tough ship is that AR just does not let us have much in terms of fluff of them! It mostly happens off-screen. Which is where fanfic steps in to satisfy that need ;]
