First of all I wanted to say your blog is my favourite blog on tumblr, and I find your posts to be hilarious. But let’s get to the question. What book do you think is the best VC book and what book do you think is the worst/most disappointing VC book? I want to read all the VC books. I’m currently reading MTD (which I don’t really like) and I wondered what your favourite book in the series is and which you liked the least. As for myself, I can’t choose between IWTV or TVL being my favourite.

omg mine is your favorite? *flails* Thank u! If u love this blog, u love the VC fandom by default.

My fave VC changes over time. When I first started, I was definitely more IWTV, I identified with Claudia, and then Louis. It wasn’t until later that I switched over to Team Lestat. Claudia is very nearly the biological daughter he probably would have had deserved, in a mortal Lestat AU!

When I reread the books now, I see different things than before, now that I’m older. I can see the parenting perspective better now, for example.

I feel like someone just asked me my fave recently and I think I said TVL, bc it’s the one that’s stood the test of time the most for me, probably.

Least favorite also changes over time. I’m a very generous person tho, I can find beauty and salvage elements/quotes/scenes from books, movies, etc, that I otherwise don’t like as a whole. Same is true for VC. Lots of gems tossed in amongst the later canon that you’ll only really appreciate if you excavate them yourself ;]

I wouldn’t call it disappointing per se, but I admit that I didn’t really enjoy Blackwood Farm, I’d say that was my least favorite, consistently. It’s almost a stand-alone novel. Probably the reason I don’t like it as much is bc it’s almost a stand-alone novel.

If I want to be selective, or semi-selective, do I need to make a list of people who I want to (or usually) roleplay with? What if that person (or everyone) doesn’t want to be in the list?

{{I should be answering this privately, but can’t, bc you’re on anon. I do know some things about RP, but I am in no way an authority on it. Ask a few RPers for their definitions. Anyone can reblog this and add their comments, too.}}

image

One thing is for sure: Don’t make a public list of people you plan to RP with. It can make the not-listed people feel left out and can lead to you getting anonhate. You can do what you like privately, of course! Make all the lists you want privately.

Now, it’s fine to make a tag list AFTER you have been RPing and have multiple muse interactions, it’s a nice way to organize your threads and give your readers/followers a way to look on your blog for certain interactions ;]

“selective” means that you only RP with mutuals (ppl who you follow & who also follow you).

“semi-selective” means you RP mainly with mutuals, but are open to others on a case-by-case basis.

In my blog’s description I have: “Sometimes a selective Ask blog” which I wrote before I knew the fandom definition of “selective.” I was/am using that in the normal context of the word, meaning that I will sometimes answer things as my muse RP, if it feels appropriate.

How would you describe IWTV to someone who has not read the book or seen the movie?

image

(I struggle to describe it to ppl, I usually cater the length and depth of my description based on my audience, for example, to describe it to my 7 yr old cousin (who loves vampires and was a vampire princess fairy for Halloween): “It’s mostly about a happy vampire family with 2 dads, and they don’t always get along with eachother or the world.”)

As Tom Cruise put it so eloquently, “The movie is not for everyone.” No value judgement there; it’s just not everyone’s cup of tea, so I don’t try to sell it.

I will try to describe the story in the language of tumblrland:

“How would you describe IWTV to someone who has not read the book…?”

You can also try my vc synopsis tag, but there be spoilers there!

….That last gif is also tribute to antoineandthepiano who loves that gif! And it’s appropriate here, bc if I think the person might actually like it, I do tell them to #READ THE BOOK in the hopes that I can make them one of us

in the movie, louis’s eye color changed once he experienced mortal death and became a vampire. Do you think this is a normal occurrence or simply something added for effect for the film?

*Takes a deep breath* *Tries not to write a lot* *Writes a lot anyway*

I think it was both. Added for effect for the movie but also, their eye color IS enhanced with the Dark Gift. Here look at Louis’s pretty eyes change color:

image

First moments as a new vampire would be intense, Vampiring has just been installed into the system and director Neil Jordan probably wanted to make it very clear to the audience that this moment is as significant a moment as birth, and other than seeing the blood dry up and absorb into his face, and now we see the blue veins more prominently, it’s the eyes that really convince us that a change is happening. The eyes are the window to the soul!

In VC, it’s often noted explained at enormous length and exquisitely vivid detail how beautiful Louis’ emerald green eyes are *u* Both before and after turning.

Short answer is, in canon, the Blood enhances what you already have. The amount of that enhancement varies.

~Hit the jump for 3 Shades of Lestat’s eye color.~

Movie!IWTV does not align with book!IWTV on eye color. It isn’t mentioned in the books that their eye color changes by a particular tonal measurement; the Dark Gift is different for each of them, but what it does do consistently is enhance what the fledgling already had as a mortal.

For example, Armand has warm brown eyes as a mortal, IIRC, and they take on a golden (or amber) glow when he is turned.

Their eyes brighten and darken at different times in the movie, maybe it’s related to the intensity of their emotional state. I know for a fact that they all (main adult cast, not Claudia or Denis) had at least two shades of contacts in their color: a normal set and a brighter set and of course there may have been times, as with Orlando Bloom in LOTR, that someone forgot to put the contacts in before shooting, that’s human error.

3 Shades of Lestat’s eye color:

Chastising your idiot child who could’ve finished you both would be intense:

Finding out that your daughter has polluted her own bed, less intense or intense in a different way? i mean it’s HER bed after all you don’t sleep with her thank goodness:

Pleased with self for A+ parenting, low intensity:

Is there any fan fiction or fan art of Louis’ wife? I know he had a wife who died in childbirth in the movie. And is there any information about his wife?

Fanfic/fanart of Louis’ wife? No, not that I know of 😛 Most fic writers/artists base their fic/art on canon, not movie!IWTV in that regard.

In the IWTV script of April ‘92, 2nd draft (btw there are a number of cut lines and scenes that are in there, too), there is the mention of her name, and the child’s name:

I’m gonna make a wild headcanon that the angel statue over that grave was meant to resemble Dianne de Pointe du Lac.

Out of all the vampires in the Vampire Chronicles which one has the most money? And how did they vampires become so rich? I imagine Marius got it through his art/paintings and Lestat though being a rock star but what about the others like Louis?

That’s tough. I would think that it fluctuates. THEY ARE ALL GROSSLY FILTHY RICH.

The most rich? Probably Marius, or Armand. But this is the gif I have that’s on topic so this is what you get.

Marius has been around for a LONG time, whatever money he got in the beginning of his vampiring has accrued to an enormous amount over all this time. I don’t think it’s just based on selling paintings, which I would think he does more for fun than financial gain, but could be both.

(I like to think Marius also givens painting lessons as a hobby bc he does love to teach!)

In no particular order:

Lestat’s money was there before he was a rockstar, he had to have alot of startup money. He talks about hiring the best people and buying the best equipment for all aspects of getting the band updated and concert ready. He talks about hiring security and lawyers. He had that money already, it was waiting in bank accounts he had set up in the 18th century. Remember, he started off vampiring with a big treasure chest of stolen money and jewelry from Magnus’ victims, which he invested.

Louis is rich bc he was a plantation owner and owned property in NOLA. He was careful with banking and originally thought Lestat chose him for his money. AS IF! Louis is also a great gambler, he has a knack for cards, and can win huge sums to invest. Louis also loves books, and probably is in the vintage book business. Louis also probably gets money from Lestat, if he needs it.

Armand initially arranged for dives for treasure from sunken ships, an archaeological find, “a cheap piece of South American property yielded a long forgotten emerald mine.” And that money was invested. He owns and runs the Night Island, and other businesses, which are a constant source of incoming profit.

Daniel had money from the publishing of IWTV, and later other books, but his money really comes from Armand.

// I dunno, “My Immortal” is still so much worse, in my opinion. But that BV excerpt is still close enough to that level of bad that you can’t not see it.

The resemblance is uncanny!

Hi! I love your blog, and I have a question for you! My favorite character is Louis, and I’ve heard that he features more prominently as a character in Merrick. I’ve heard good and bad about Merrick, but I’ve never read it myself. Is it worth a read? (I’m getting back into the VC after a long time away, and I only read a handful of the books.)

Thank you I love my blog tooooo *u* heh so humble, too

Yes, READ THE BOOK!

image

antoineandthepiano made this lovely aesthetic pic set and description about Merrick for a Merrick RPer, forgotten-mayfair. You might want to ask them both about the book for more detail, any Children of Darkness (that’s what VC Fandom ppl are calling oureselves now) can also feel free to reblog this and add comments. I didn’t want to steal antoineandthepiano’s description from their post, go check that out!

Basically, if you love Louis, this is definitely a novel with alot of him in it, doing alot of serious stuff. It will hit you right in the feels. You might need to take breaks while reading it.

I don’t remember if it spoils any other major plot points from books that come before it, but I seem to recall it as being almost a standalone novel. It does spoil the fact that certain characters in the novel were not vampires in previous novels.
