♛I am so pleased, ma chère. True love knows no gender limitations. And we can always use more characters inspired by my relationship with Louis. I’m not revealing anything new when I say it’s no walk in the park but it’s absolutely worth fighting for. Constantly. For centuries! *tosses laptop aside and pounces on Louis for kisses*
^//ooc: Yes, Lestat recycled this answer, and you may be the same anon who said smtg similar before, but in the time since then, he has gotten a ton of fresh followers who haven’t seen this lovely response and even lovelier picture! So he is somewhat sorry to recycle, but it’s like a fancy jacket, why can’t he wear it again? *u*
♛I’m an avid consumer of art. When you take joy in all the beauty around you, man-made and natural alike, it can’t help but plant a seed inside you and shine out from within. There are no rules to appreciation *winks*
characters in canon, so take every discussion about him and his treatment of Armand/Amadeo with a huge truckload of salt and patience, bc there are some strong opinions out there.
Marius knew about Armand (known then as “Amadeo”) and Lord Harlech. He might have been jealous, but didn’t say so in TVA, only that he was worried for Amadeo’s safety:
“He has quite the reputation, your English lord, slamming down his knife on the board in any tavern he chooses. Do you have to consort with common murderers? You have a nonpareil here when it comes to those who take life.”
The main difference I see is that Marius gave Amadeo the autonomy and independence to make his own choices in this regard, and Amadeo was more rebelling against Marius in his fling w/ Lord Harlech than furthering his sexcapades education. It turned out that LH was bonkers, got all weird and overly possessive and wanted to kidnap Amadeo… it was a bad breakup.
[X,@cloudsinvenice said: I’m thinking Armand when he fights Lord Harlech, personally.]
There’s some debate about why Marius sent Amadeo around for all those sexual escapades and I always read it as part of Marius’ full-rounded education deal that he wanted Amadeo to have; to have experienced all the good things in life that can be humanly experienced, and to show him that physical intimacy doesn’t have to be the horrible experience it was when Amadeo was kept in the brothels. Not necessarily the best cure for a sexually abused child/teenager but Marius was probably thinking of it as exposure therapy:
Exposure therapy is a technique in behavior therapy used to treat anxiety disorders. It involves the exposure of the patient to the feared object or context without any danger, in order to overcome their anxiety and/or distress. Procedurally it is similar to the fear extinction paradigm in rodent work.
I was going through my inbox, and felt like doing some deeeeeep excavation, here’s a really old one, do you think this anon is still attracted to me, or have they given up? Or are they still waiting on a reply?? *laughcries*
Idk if I would kill for it but I would really like some of that ❤ I haven’t read PLROA yet, maybe we’ll get some Louis POV there or in the next book. We had a chapter from his POV in PL. What would you want to know about him specifically? What would you want him to write about?
There are Louis RPers out there if you wish to get in touch w/ him directly, so to speak. Hey ppl, Like if you are a Louis RPer, Reblog/Comment on this to recc us Louis RPers!
Yes, I obvs enjoy our faction of the VC fandom here too! We’re all excited/ nervous/other… some ppl have nope’d out entirely, it’s a big mix *hugs*
Casting Claudia will probably not be an issue if they start with TVL, bc Claudia’s only in IWTV, and just mentioned in later books. It seems like AR really loves movie!IWTV, so I doubt she would redo that book.
But… let’s cast an actress as Lestat’s little sister for TVL, the 8th de Lioncourt child, and then have her play Claudia, too! The resemblance would be so heartbreaking! ;A;
For funsies tho, I must inform you… awhile back, @hyperbeeb suggested Mia Talerico [X], who just turned 9 on 9/17, and I have to agree!
[^She’s the kid from the “confused baby” meme!]
Mia’s had a long career already (IMDB says she was eleven months old when she started filming Good Luck Charlie, so that’s 7 yrs of acting, being directed, being comfortable in front of the cameras, etc.). I Perusing through gifs of her (thank u @child-actor-gifs!), I think she’s got what it takes. Physically, who can deny that she’s super cute, w/ doll-like features as described in the books, fiercely intelligent, adorable smile, and naturally blonde already (so we can save a few $$ on hair dye!).
^Here she is a little older. She almost looks like she plotting here… Look what she’s doing with her hands, conscious acting choice? I think so. Imagine she’s crushing a (breakable prop) porcelain doll’s face into shards instead! Yissss…
^Perfect disingenuous apology, very Claudia.
^”I want more…” hugs? Sure you do.
^So yeah let’s hurl her at AR!
(ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧
I think we could also find a great child actress on Insta or YT, some fresh kid whose experience comes from making short vids under adult supervision so they are already accustomed to taking some direction bc kids are notoriously difficult to direct. I love Katie Ryan on Insta (@katieryan430) … It’s frickin’ BATS.
IIRC, there was alot of difficulty finding a 5 yo talented enough to play Claudia in movie!IWTV. Kirsten Dunst was the first they auditioned of one hundred actresses, varying in amount of experience, from around ages 5-12. The 5 yr olds struggled with the intensity that the part required… so I wouldn’t mind if they aged her up to 10 or 11. If they cast a 5 yo who looks perfect but can’t act like the frustrated adult inside, it won’t really work.
If Claudia’s in the new adaptations at all, I think it will be as a ghost (in later books, she sort of haunts the Rue Royale, Louis, and Lestat), which could also be animated and voice acted by an adult.
AR has the rights back to the VC to make adaptations, the new book is crackier more imaginative!! than we ever could have imagined, there’s an official VC FB asking for casting suggestions and some have been… also imaginative (did I hear Orlando Bloom suggested for Armand? And Sebastian Stan for Louis?)…
I love that we’re all excited and horrified and stimulated by all this! IDK KNOW WHAT TO TELL U OR ADVISE YOU I CANNOT EVEN I DON’T KNOW MY OWN HEART ON THIS IT’S SO FRUSTRATE it’s a good frustrate tho. Like trying not to scratch a mosquito bite but if feels so good to do it but you know you’re making things worse, even when it starts to bleed it feels good!! that’s sort of how I feel.
I always recommend reading the earlier books before the later ones bc that’s the order in which AR explored the characters. #READ THE BOOK.gif
The crossover books will spoil things or may leave some things confusing/unexplained which happened in the original Mayfair series, so if you don’t want to be spoiled that way, y’know, start at the original books.
I’m not as familiar with the Mayfair series* bc I read them a long time ago and didn’t reread them… but you’ll probably see the witches as richer characters when you know what they’ve been through before the hybrid novels (AR calls the crossover books “hybrid novels”). IIRC, sometimes past events are referenced in the hybrid novels, but not fully revisited from other POVs as happens in VC.
*One exception is Merrick Mayfair, who isn’t mentioned in the original Mayfair trilogy, she’s in Merrick.
For example, Mona Mayfair is no ordinary witch, and so when we see her in Blood Canticle (Mona was so awesomely sassy in BC!), it feels like she gains back an inner strength about herself (from the earlier Mayfair books) that may have been lost.
Also relevant: at the booksigning last night (11/30/16), someone asked AR if we’d see more of Rowan or the other Mayfairs in future books, and AR basically said she doesn’t think so, bc the hybrid novels haven’t worn well over time, and that she feels the original Mayfair trilogy is good as it is (also, she wrote it in a house in NOLA she no longer owns; it’s harder to get back into that universe from another location). We do have some Mayfair mention in PLROA tho, so clearly AR is keeping some things from the hybrid novels and tossing others so i d e k.
[X] //ooc: they are refusing to answer this because they see the Twilight series as the author’s wish fulfillment
fantasy, and they don’t want to step on anyone’s feelings, but neither of them would want to go to high school for centuries, nor do they have any issues killing people now. Lestat is a little jealous of the sparkling tho, so he just wears face and/or body glitter sometimes.
Well… your message sat in my inbox for 5 days bc this is a question every reader has to answer for themselves. It partly depends on how much canon you’ve read.
[^X“I love him in ways that I can’t explain to other people. They don’t understand… it’s not their fault.” is that not canon?!]
IWTV is Louis’ account of their time in that era, and as @vraik astutely pointed out, Louis admits that he’s holding back information when he says “If I held something too close for you to ask about it, I would not bring it up in the first place.” Lestat says as much near the end of TVL, that Louis left many things out. *~Unreliable narrators!~*
And movie!IWTV had even less of what Louis says in the book, because it had to be edited for the sake of time… many scenes in the book were not in the movie. Also, it was made in the early 90′s, keep in mind that it pushed the envelope for its time re: showing any homosexuality.
tl;dr: I ship Louis/Lestat, I don’t need to define my ship as romantic, sexual, or platonic, etc. I just hardcore ship them TOGETHER.
Hit the jump for more, cut for length.
While they don’t “date” in canon, Louis talks about Lestat in IWTV with a lot of fascination, and later, Lestat writes about Louis with a lot of fascination, too (more, really!)… and they don’t actually kiss in canon until the 3rd book, right before Lestat’s big concert, and then they’re separated again soon after. It’s a ship that takes alot of Read Between the Lines.
Most of the vampires who are turned in canon are turned bc their makers love them so much that they can’t let their loved one be perishable any longer. Whatever Louis’ perception was of IWTV!Lestat, it seems clear to many of the fandom that Lestat chose Louis for more than his wealth and/or friendship, and that now, in later canon, the feelings between them are mutual.
io9: There’s the concept of Louis and Lestat as Claudia’s “parents,” which we see in the novel, movie and now in the graphic novel. When you know the narrative, it’s not quite the modern statement it could appear to be visually, in the adaptation. Are you okay with that as an idea for the new century?
AR: Sure! [Laughs] Sure! I never thought of it, they were the first vampire same-sex parents.
io9: I had wondered if that had been a thought on your mind before.
AR: No.
io9: That’s the way that it seems to be shown, it’s very much “she’s our daughter now.” So I can say, they’re a same-sex couple with children?
