I bet Louis and the guys in that library scene saw what she was reading! But the audience? No, we don’t see what the titles of her books are… but maybe someone recognizes the illustration style in this one, at least, and can tell us? It looks like “Hell and Damnation” is a chapter in it. Maybe it’s a book the props people designed just for the movie, though.
In the movie, Louis says:
“She studied the myths and legends of the Old World, obsessed with the search for what she called ‘our kind’ ”

In the book, this is what Louis says about Claudia’s interest in going to Europe, but not that she studied any specific books about it:
“Meantime, she made a plan. It was her idea most definitely that we must go first to central Europe, where the vampire seemed most prevalent. She was certain we could find something there that would instruct us, explain our origins. But she seemed anxious for more than answers: a communion with her own kind. She mentioned this over and over, `My own kind,’ and she said it with a different intonation than I might have used. She made me feel the gulf that separated us. In the first years of our life together, I had thought her like Lestat, imbibing his instinct to kill, though she shared my tastes in everything else. Well first of all, #I love these kind of stories, where ppl talk about how they got sucked into this fandom, whether it’s when they first saw movie!IWTV (or movie!QOTD) or starting reading one of the books…
Movie!IWTV is frightening, there are brutally scary parts. It touches on a lot of taboo subjects. The kind of violence it has is scary partly because there’s the element of betrayal in many instances, definitely when Claudia knifes Lestat, and then when Louis sets him on fire ;A; We laugh about it now bc if we didn’t have a sense of humor about it, it would just be too cruel. But that is really cute that you watched it with your older sister, hopefully she explained things that were confusing or at least provided some support during the scary parts ;]
I was given book!IWTV when I was 11 and saw the movie soon after, sneaking over to my best friend’s house bc it was rated R and I wasn’t allowed to watch it. It was dark comedy to us, and we ended up watching it repeatedly, trying to memorize the lines so we could say them along with the movie. Our favorite line had to be:
“Just remember: Life – without me – would be even more unbearable.”And I can’t really gif that out, the shot is pretty dark, but you remember, it was here:
That line was a declaration between us, too. We’re still best friends to this day, 20+ years after bonding over this series!
VC had a huge enough influence on us. For better or worse *shrugs*
I was an ambivert. I was completely obsessed with antagonists, too. The VC encouraged me to develop all those extroverted traits I loved in Lestat, which other characters didn’t always approve of, but he dgaf! He marched to his own drum. He craves the spotlight for validation but his own love for himself outweighs these external rewards. The VC has been a huge source of strength. So much great advice. Here’s an example, that suffering can be embraced as being a valuable part of our experience, too:
“It’s an awful truth that suffering can deepen us, give a greater luster to our colors, a richer resonance to our words. That is, if it doesn’t destroy us, if it doesn’t burn away the optimism and the spirit, the capacity for visions, and the respect for simple yet indispensable things.” –Lestat, Queen of the Damned
But really, the quote that bound me and my best friend together, that’s what I hope for fandom to accomplish. We do come and go, but I’ve been in this for 20+ years, and it seems to me that VC fandom as a whole will always be here for those who want it.

^What I think is also worth mentioning here is that Lestat could have killed Louis or just left Louis in NOLA at any time (before Claudia). But he didn’t. Even at his worst, Lestat was still fascinated with Louis, and life – without him – would have been even more unbearable ❤

♛Did he break your heart? I assume you didn’t break his and are asking about putting him out of his misery, but if you did break his heart physically beyond repair, by all means finish the job. It won’t cure him, but it will make him dead. I prefer not to extend physical suffering in my victims unless they’re truly evil and I’m really offended… or really bored that night.
It’s terrible when we trust people with our hearts and they fail us so badly. It’s happened to me. And I’ve broken hearts, too. Love is truly a battlefield, but it’s worth the fight.
Be glad he did it now rather than string you along for any longer, wasting more of your precious time. There are worse punishments than death, and ignoring him, just cutting him right out of your life, should be a living punishment for him. You’re not his plaything to break when he feels like it.
You’re free. Pick up the pieces and mend them yourself, don’t rush into having someone else take his place. You have to love yourself before you can love anyone else. At least, that’s how it’s been for me. I still don’t have that first part down completely, but I break all the rules, even my own…
Cure for a broken heart – what they call “self-care” these days, which is specific to each person, do whatever gives you life again, and confidence in yourself.
I wish you the best, but as you know, this could happen again. Emotionally, hearts can break and heal, over and over again, I know from experience. It’s a durable little thing! The love I’ve shared with others has been worth the heartbreak. If it’s worth it to you, don’t be afraid to put your heart out there again, when you’re ready *hugs*
If Louis had gone back to France like his brother wanted, well… who knows what his life would have been like? His brother wanted him to sell “everything we owned, and use
the money to do God’s work in France.” So, would they move the women into a convent to be nuns; freeing Louis and Paul to become priests or monks? In Paris, or some other part of France?
If Louis was a priest in Paris, would he have drawn the attention of any of the vampires there? The Theatre des Vampires was set up and had been going for some 10 years by the time Lestat met Louis. Armand was there. If he met Louis as a mortal, would he have been interested in him at all? I don’t know. Part of what drew Armand to Louis was his connection to Lestat. Would Louis still be as appealing without that connection? Would he be appealing as a companion to any other vampires roaming around in France at that time?
Those are all questions to consider.
I don’t think anyone would have chosen him to vampire, if he were some French priest, probably dissatisfied with his life choices. They might have just killed him for fun, though. The TdV killed innocents and they seemed to really enjoy killing the beautiful ppl, and he still would have been attractive enough for that.
As to Louis having a different maker, that’s why I couldn’t answer this ask sooner. It’s too big a question for me!
Physically, he probably would have been better off. He was Lestat’s 3rd in about a decade (and Lestat himself was still very young!), contributing to his ‘weakness’ as a vampire, and lack of some of the vampiric gifts that others can get when they’re turned.
But I think no matter who turned him, or how strong he was, he would still struggle with the whole killing people issue. Marius might have helped guide him into it more slowly. As problematic as Marius became later, in earlier canon we knew him as a mentor figure, and if he had just been that, with no Amadeo situation, he might have been a good maker for Louis.
I’ll open it up to everyone else bc it’s just too big a question: Who would have made a better maker for Louis, and why?

There are a number of spooky tales from Louisiana, but one of the most enthralling is that of Manchac Swamp. First of all, Manchac is rumored to be haunted. It’s also rumoured to be the haunt of Rougarou, the Cajun werewolf. As well as that, it’s said to be haunted by Julia Brown, a once practicing voodoo priestess, who put a curse on the entire town the day she died. A number of curious visitors to the swamp have reported hearing shrill screams from a disembodied woman.
