I made this the blog I wanted to find when I was looking for VC fandom action. People like you who follow it and love it and tell me so, you give me life.

AHEM okay, *straightens up* so, as far as VC casting, I was asked this awhile back and I still haven’t been able to answer, and couldn’t figure out why I was feeling speechless about it. That’s why I’m attempting to answer now, with this “I can’t answer!” answer. Why not? Why can’t I seem to motivate myself to do a full VC cast when it would be a fun thing to attempt?? After some introspection…
Short answer is:
When you say ALL, there are so many characters to consider I get overwhelmed,
I have a relatively open mind, which means I might consider ppl who may not “look the part,”**
And there are ppl from different eras who are too old now who I WOULD HAVE WANTED SO MUCH.
I prefer fanart of the characters over a lot of the current actors available. Check my #fave tag for my faves ^_____^
(**After all, AR was vociferous about Tom Cruise not “looking the part” but then when she saw his performance she praised him to high heaven; showing us all that it’s somewhat unfair not to give an actor the chance to prove his craft, that he’s more than his physical attributes.
Really phenomenal acting transcends physical appearance, it can even alter physical appearance within one scene.
Also isn’t that Hamilton Musical doing great w/ race-swapped characters? So that’s another consideration, too.)
That’s the abridged gist of it :- so check my #vc castingtag, it has a wide variety of character options to peruse (some were submitted or suggested to me, some I’ve offered up for consideration) and my opinions about them *u*
Hit the jump for the long-windier reasons why “I can’t answer!”
1 – There are TONS of characters in VC, I mean, do you want to go into minor characters, as far as like, that mortal Emily who was already dead in IWTV, killed by that zombie vampire, and her bereft spouse/fiancé/boyfriend Morgan (I think that was his name, can’t check rn)? Arjun? Is he a minor character? Not in Pandora’s book, but he’s hardly sketched out in Blood and Gold.
There are a lot of characters and honestly if I were to do a post like that, I would want to be very thorough, with notes backing my reasons, it would be a REALLY long post, possibly need to be done in several parts, it would take hours, and it would probably be met with like 5 likes, 2 reblogs, and possibly a bunch of disagreement 😦
While I don’t post things For the Notes, when I’m going to invest a good chunk of my time in a fandom Thing, I do it for something I can’t resist doing bc I care about it deeply, or it’s for someone I know specifically, or it’s something hilarious that I have a pretty good feeling will amuse my kind of people.
I did this long post about casting Rose de Lioncourt, and it got 16 notes, so it seeeeems like ppl didn’t really care enough about her, and it took me at least an hour to put that together, it was basically a labor of love from me since I cared about it deeply enough. *shrugs*
VC casting is fun to discuss but bc we had such a terrible experience with QOTD, and there’s been little news of another adaptation, it’s hard to get REALLY excited about ;n;
2 – So as I said, I’m really generous with actors, so I have trouble picking just ONE per role, I would need them to screentest!
It also depends on their combinations with other actors and which story the director has chosen to tell. For example, whoever is cast as Louis has to work well with be really gay with whoever is cast as Lestat *u* BUT they have a very different relationship in IWTV than they do in TOBT.
Same goes for casting someone like Armand, if we’re telling the story of TVA, the actor will need to be able to show the evolution from mortal to vampire, and a lot of other major changes in his life and unlife. But if it’s QOTD, it’s not Armand’s story specifically, but his role is more about his relationship with Daniel. That affects the casting choice.
3 – A lot of singers from the 90’s, or 80’s, or even earlier, would make fantastic Lestats.
I would hope that the next VC movie shows Lestat as Monsieur Le Rockstar, if not on stage, at least working something out privately at home, and actually singing lyrics that are not terrible, lol. I would want a Lestat who can sing, since it’s such a huge part of his identity as a performer.
Also, that Björn Andrésen is pretty much my purest headcanon for Armand, but alas, that actor is 61 now ;A;
With actors who are too old, we can use them as a point of inspiration, casting agents probably take kid!pics of adult actors in order to find a point of inspiration when they need to cast the child version of those actors in films.
4 – The fanart in our fandom is incredible. So much of it! We are spoiled with so many fandom treasures in our fanartist collection. We have hilarious fanartists, serious ones, all flavors. Check my #fave tag for my faves ^_____^
Burnadette is a slight variation of Bernadette, French name meaning “Brave as a bear.” I changed it to get the fire reference ;] So Louis’ sister would have spelled it the normal way.
… I won’t deny it looks good. “Bernadette, Louis, and Paul” sound like they could be siblings 😀 BTW, that’s the Jane Austen font from DaFont.
But I wouldn’t want anyone to feel left out in the sense that I’m *special* or anything, I’m glad that some names were left out of canon, so anyone can project their own names onto those characters.

I called her Henriette Marie (with the diminutive Minette) in a long ago mortal Louis fic. She probably has quite a lot of names since Mater didn’t give her one!
I also remember more than one writer calling her Sophie.
Ah yes, merci! I also like your choices for other chars… I think you chose Aurestile Jean Michel de Pointe du Lac for Louis’ dad… And Paulette for his mother? Or was that someone else?
And there is another ~top sekrit~ fanfic out there that assigns Lestat’s dad’s name as Valere de Lioncourt and I can’t un-headcanon that. Too perfect. It just sounds right.
Can I just add: the way Lestat tilts his head in that second gif,#he’s so curious, #catlike, #absorbing the whole experience, #being in a moving car, #delicious pulse of a fresh victim burning in his hand, #all served up and waiting, #like Holy Communion, #Daniel might be one of Lestat’s first human kills since reviving himself, #all those years spent healing mind and body reading comic books, #living vicariously through Sam Spade, #eating rats and alley cats in a filthy hovel, #which is normally repulsive to him on so many levels, #wearing an old moldy blanket, #rejected by Louis, #utterly alone, #hiding from all the evolving world and scary new technology #and now he’s IN IT, #he heard Louis’ voice from the street and followed, #lurked anxiously outside, #bc even in San Francisco a wraith like him could arouse suspicion, #picked the license plate number out of Daniel’s mind, #got into the backseat and waited in his car, #waited in the dark as Daniel tossed his leather jacket on him, #waited hungrily, #lips too dry to even close properly, #and now he’s ready to leap into the next big adventure, #… #just needs a good meal first.

[BTW: It’s “Mater Fabuloso,” a name someone suggested for me ages ago on here, and it’s bc “Mater” means “Mother” in Latin. We used to refer to AR as “Mater Gloriousa,” “Our Glorious Mother.” So it’s related to that.]
The name is also featured in this song, which is very upbeat but if you listen to the lyrics closely the singer is basically a guy who has to have ALL OF this poor lady bc apparently she’s already so much a part of him that he needs her more than just out of love, and smacks down the competition as unworthy. It’s pretty obsessive.
I liked it when I was a kid, so it has a nostalgic feel for me, and at that time, I just thought it was a guy who couldn’t help but express himself as to how madly in love he was. Obsession and madly in love, unhealthy relationships… very VC.

And I answered, basically, that there were a lot of extenuating circumstances, and pressure, you were under in that story… so I don’t really think it was a lack of intelligence on your part and I don’t think it’s your job to try to “turn-on” your readers/audiences with every story.
But how would you have handled that question?
It’s actually my favorite misadventure….mainly because it is really the first modern tale where it’s just myself telling the story. There is plenty of cast support, so to speak, but it’s all from my viewpoint.
I know I’ve expressed before, that every vampire is a frozen drop in an icy sea of time indefinite. I’m no exception to that rule. You bet, I love modern excess and read constantly but any self-proclaimed exclamation of genius is pure vanity.
I’m clever, that is to be certain….wily like a fox and I learn quickly but how best does anyone learn? Mistakes. I may have the body and visage of a god but like all deities in mythology, I’m fallible, baby!
I started out my life as an illiterate bumpkin! I was talented in four areas; hunting, fucking, drinking, and acting. Hardly the stuff of Hawking, Jobs, Tyson or any other modern mega-mind!
It took the Dark Gift to expand my capacity for thought and to retain knowledge. I’m a great mimic. Up until my time as a rock star, I couldn’t compose Chop Sticks if you paid me. I had no time for that, man! I was a bit busy….
Imagine now, that you take this demigod, frozen in time, suffering from post-traumatic stress due to the biggest let down of his life and set down before him, a large ‘Do Over’ button. It’s bright red and glowing in the center of the hole in his life and it says, “DO NOT PRESS THIS EVER!”
Who am I? What am I famed for? The neon signs came out, lit up like Christmas in Las Vegas telling me to do ANYTHING other than press that precise button! So of course, I smashed my fist into that son-of-a-bitch because I wanted to know! I wanted to remember what it was like! I’d tried Death and she threw me back! So how about life?
And ahh I thought I knew and remembered what it was like! I thought everything I lifted from every meal I engorged myself with made me an expert in the human condition! I was so horribly naive.
And I described how dreadful it all was! The eating, the drinking, the shitting, the paltry sex, the illness, the fragility! I could barely see! I could barely move or think clearly enough to qualify as much more than some en vogue, hunky, runway model…..no brain, all body, probably a dreadful accent! Best ogled, not heard! What was I to do with all that? I was almost that country pauper again.
I needed help and I was grateful for Gretchen, for David! Without them, I would have died…in one of the most wretchedly, abysmally common mortal ways.
This mind of mine combined with the Blood and this body is a complete package that works! Raglan didn’t do so hot inside it, if you recall?
I could describe my many attributes again but to sum it all up, I’m smarter than the average bear and I love telling a good tale but don’t let the golden fleece fall over your eyes, darling! This was an extraordinary event that happened to an otherwise ordinary guy.

Afterword: If that disappointed you or broke your heart, then might I suggest developing a crush on my brainy squeeze, David! Or Louis? I surround myself with genius to put me in a brighter spotlight. Just don’t be in their beds when I want in. I have the jealousy of a bull in the midst of puberty.
