The VC Fandom on FB: OH MY GOD ALIENS, ATLANTIS & VAMPIRES, IT’S THE BEST COMBO EVER, THIS BOOK IS GOING TO BE THE BEST IN THE SERIES. ANNE YOU DESERVE A NOBEL PRIZE FOR LITERATURE!! YOU’RE THE BEST WRITER EVER!!!
The VC Fandom on Tumblr: What the actual fuck Anne? Have you ever heard of an editor? We love you, but you’re scaring us here… look at us, we’re desperately clinging to the idea of mermaid vampires to cope.

Oh my gosh, well… I waited 6 hours, but there was no further message, so I’m just going to answer now.
“I don’t know how to feel about Anne…”
Respectfully, I’m not going to tell you how to feel about Anne Rice. I must regretfully decline.

I know how I feel about her: that she has given us a wonderful gift and that she has committed no actual crime for which she would deserve to be boycotted. We can poke fun at her, at her books, we can critique them, bc she has set herself and her works for public review. We can feel distrustful for her past behavior towards the fandom and distrustful of her handling of her own characters. Those are all within our rights as a critical public.
I always recommend that people read the books and draw their own conclusions about them on their own merits. It’s part of what makes fandom great, that we can agree on some things, disagree on others, and have lively discussions about it all.
What I will tell you is that you don’t have to like Anne Rice to read her stories. To my knowledge, she has not committed ANY REAL LIFE ACTUAL CRIMES. People boycott actual criminals bc we do not want to financially or morally support them. IMO, Anne Rice should NOT be lumped in with REAL LIFE ACTUAL CRIMINALS.

It is not a crime that she waged war on fanfic. It was incredibly painful and it shattered the fandom, and drove us all underground for years ;A; But she was within her legal rights. Keep in mind that fandom was not really socially acceptable or understood like it is today, authors understand now that fanworks are types of fan engagement with canon and each other. She seems to understand that now, or if not, she at least ignores fanfic.
It is not a crime that she waged war on reviewers. Also painful and oppressive at the time, AR used to be very offended by critical or negative reviews of her books, and would sic her People of the Page on reviewers. Again, she now seems to understand that people are within their rights to critique her work and she can ignore them.
What she writes is not an actual crime. She has problematic elements and explores taboo subjects in her writing, refuses any editor’s advice, refuses anyone’s idea of what she should write. That’s her prerogative as a ‘music maker,’ as a ‘dreamer of dreams’ (<– like Willy Wonka!). To argue that any of her writing is a crime is, to me, a form of censorship, and I do not believe in censorship of fiction.
^^^^None of these are Real Life actual crimes. Personally, I may not accept all of her writing as canon, and I may poke fun at it, too, that’s my prerogative as a reader.
The idea that all art should be entirely unproblematic all the time…kills art. Like, I really don’t think we as readers have some all-solemn duty to constantly make sure we’re only having the ~right~ kind of fun.
But that’s just my opinion. You’ll have to draw your own conclusions and decide whether you want to financially/morally support Anne Rice by buying/reading her books, or not.
It’s fine if you don’t like romantic and sexual relationships in fandoms but there’s no need to blast others for having them.
vagabonddaniel-recordedarchives:
ooc: But… But I do like romantic and sexual relationships in fandoms. I usually write Armand/Daniel as romantic and sexual. I have many other ships that I love reading or writing in romantic and sexual ways. I have nothing against them at all. I certainly didn’t “blast” anyone for having them or liking them. I merely suggested that people stop holding up romance/sexual encounters over everything else as if they are the only sorts of relationships or encounters that matter.
Romance is important. But not important to all people because some people are aromantic. Sexual relationships are important to a lot of people. But not to all people because some people are asexual and some fall somewhere on the gray-ace scale. (And that doesn’t mean an aromantic asexual can’t enjoy reading or writing those things, as well. Just that romance and sex aren’t a priority for everyone.)
Fandom tends to put romantic ships on pedestal above all others. Probably because fandom on tumblr especially is obsessed with Shipping. People Ship It and if you don’t Ship It, you’re a “hater.” But not everything has to be a romantic ship.
Fandom also tends to take non-romantic and non-sexual canon relationships and turn them into something romantic, and that’s awesome. Fandom is all about taking canon and exploring all of its possibilities. If people want to write Jace Wayland and Simon Lewis as romantic, well, show me the slash fic! I am there. But I don’t want people holding up Jace/Simon as though it’s better as a romantic ship than a bromance or friendship, because platonic friendships and familial relationships and non-romantic love are important, too. And while it’s fun to read and write smut and sexytimes and UST and all forms of sexual tension, it’s also fun to explore other aspects and dynamics and levels of love/friendship/frenemies beyond messing up the sheets.
That’s all I was saying.
^Beautifully answered.
Mod 2:
I hate to post this again, but this is another reminder to please keep our ask box free of gossip, hatred, or anything regarding rumors of who runs this blog.
//Seriously, guys. If you can’t keep yourself from sending hate or gossip or rumors to a POSITIVITY BLOG, maybe like.. put some tabasco on your send button or something so you learn.
I find it pretty ridiculous that people would send negativity to a positivity blog, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Has vcpositivity ever condoned or offered to investigate or encourage gossip, hatred, negativity, etc? No? Then why send it to them?
There are people who need to hold grudges and be negative, maybe it’s a shield against further hurt? Is it fun? I can’t understand it. Don’t really want to.
Why not keep private matters private, forgive ourselves for our trespasses (we’re imperfect! Stop expecting people to be some idealized version of perfection! I’ve definitely done this myself and I still feel bad about it, but I’m a work in progress, too), forgive those who have trespassed against us, knowingly or not (the Lord’s Prayer is actually a pretty decent serving suggestion for life in this regard), and promoting positivity. And THAT is incomprehensible to some people.
Carrying a grudge is heavier on the carrier than the person the grudge is against, but that’s just been my experience. Do you really need someone to kill themselves for you to feel better? Really? Do you think you can remove anyone from the face of the earth who has ever wronged you? People who have felt that way have been considered, historically, to be the real bullies.
Why waste these feelings on those people who have upset you? When you could be writing angsty fanfic we could all enjoy, or making a playlist of the angriest music (may I recommend NIN? Try “Burn,” I’m sure Louis would approve), doing some angry fanart… If you’re doing it for popularity, rather than try to cut someone down to make yourself feel bigger, try channeling these feelings into something you can release back into the world.
Maybe you’ll even get more popular for this constructive approach ;]
Even if it doesn’t lead to popularity, it’s amazing how being creative can relieve the anger.
No one ever deserves to be sent anon hate. NO ONE. EVER.
ooc: PSA to the VC RP Comm
1. RP is not a competition. You are not auditioning for the role of your muse. You aren’t trying to beat others out. You don’t own your muse or the muses who RP with your muse.* There might be 1 of your muse or 10, and that could number could change tomorrow. It’s not static. If you don’t like it, maybe tumblr RP is not for you.
2. No, seriously, RP is not a contest of any kind. It’s not about who’s “better” (who the hell decides that, anyway?) It’s not a race or a marathon or one of those irritating muddy obstacle courses. Fandom is giant celebration in a giant meadow and there’s room for everyone to play.
3. We are pretending to be vampires on the internet. It’s not serious business. Let’s all make an effort to be good to each other, yeah?
*Obviously you own your OCs, but the part about it not being a competition is still very true. It’s not.
OOC: PSA
In the future can we please just agree as a fandom to keep issues that could be easily handled privately private?
There was an issue with this recently that caused someone to leave the community. Calling another writer out in a public display of personal unhappiness doesn’t strengthen this fandom – it weakens it and causes those writers already at their limit to question whether the Tumblr community is even worth continuing with. No one deserves to be made a public spectacle.
If you have issues, take it to that individual in their askbox. That’s what they are there for. Resolving issues on a one on one basis seems a far better solution than throwing anyone else under the bus for everyone else to see. That makes things highly uncomfortable for those of us not involved in the situations.
This has become a disconcerting habit in this fandom lately and I am only speaking up to make an appeal that it please stop. Everyone is free to have a differing opinion, of course. I normally tend to be quiet about these things but this trend is maddening to see and uncomfortable to be exposed to.
Thanks.
^This so very much.

“This fandom is so welcoming and kind and supportive. It both surpises me and warms my heart. Especially with how small we are in comparison to other fandoms. Other fandoms could, and should, learn a lot from our community.”
TRUTH.
//Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words more than I can describe. <3
Hey girl, you’re welcome!

I feel like, yes, Prince Lestat was not the best VC, but also, some bits of it were actually still good, I can’t dismiss it in its entirety… and I’m hoping you can make Rose a more embraceable character. No pressure, or anything! hahaha.
– {{ I read your comment on how I handled my Anon. Thank you for saying such kind things, and for understanding. It means a lot. :) ❤ }} –
Haters gonna hate, so we gotta support eachother!

Good. Because it is obvious you aren’t wanted. Look at who you play with. Do any other Cannon chars even interact with your vapid armand? no, Because they know that you are a ridiculous excuse for this character. Stop[ trying to make him sweet and sympathetic and go rp my little pony or something because you have no place in a dandom like VC. And considering no other canon rpers play with you, you should have left a long time ago. Good riddance.
Wow.
Um.
Thanks.
Like I needed that.
Fuck this site. Seriously.
I’m going to fucking rip this gray face apart with my teeth. No, I’m just gonna fjskakfjf I’m pissed, i can’t even decided how i want to hurt them first.
This is not okay, to send anyone hate and to lie so ridiculously. The amount of canon that you rp with doesn’t define your quality! There is no definition for quality, but if there was, you would be it.
I love your Armand, and i agree with How you play him. The bratty bit is over done, and frankly no fun. You are wanted. I want you here, you make my day and i would be crushed if you left tumblr. There are drafts i haven’t answered in like a week or so, but yours are at the top of my list even though it’s nit even been a day because i enjoy yours the most. You are a fantastic writer. You have a fantastic grasp on your muse, you are wonderful you are loved and this little bitch took time out of their day to send you hate. They are jealous, in fact, i bet they want to rp with you but somehow can’t and want to make you feel bad because they are a little bitch
Fuck them
Fuck them with a god damn poisonous cactus right in the ass.Sorry for all the bad words, but i don’t take too kindly to people hurting my friends.
And another awesome person I adore to pieces. Thank you!
#PREACH
This is not okay, to send anyone hate. PERIOD.
Life is too short, and we are here to have fun and share fandom love. Do you dislike the portrayal of a character? Fine. Don’t follow that RP blog. Did they ask for your criticism? No? Then keep it to yourself.
If they asked for criticism, be constructive. Treat others how you would want to be treated.
In the words of Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks: “Why can’t we all just – get along?”
