You are asking if I would have loved him if he’d been mortal when I’d met him, I am assuming?
It would be strange to think of such a scenario. At the time in which he came to me, I’d become bitter and cynical about life in itself. I loathed myself with a fierce absoluteness, and I loathed all those that surrounded me because it was easier many nights to experience a sorrow-tinged-fury than it was to just become despondent. I hated those cowards around me that would not put me down and sweep me away from the misery I could not remove myself from. I did not traverse the worst venues in New Orleans because I wanted camaraderie. I wanted to die.
I didn’t have lengthy conversations with many. I cheated and brought on fights. What would Lestat have done, if he’d not been a vampire? Would he have visited me as I drank an ocean of liquor? Would he have met me outside the door? Regardless, I can only fathom that I would have initially ignored him. He wouldn’t have seemed the kind that I wanted. I would not have looked at him and seen my own demise reflected in his eyes.
I’m sure he would have struck a conversation with me, and I would have become angry and ranted in my drunkenness. But then, there presents the question of whether he would have found me interesting enough to keep badgering, if he had not been a vampire? Because it is who he is to not rid himself of the presence of someone he’s become fascinated with. And if that had been the case, I’m sure he would have continued presenting himself as an irritation, day after day, night after night. He would have flirted about in the way only Lestat can. Speaking hypothetically, of course.
It would have infuriated me that he’d felt enough of an attraction to me to not let me be. It would have challenged me, I suppose, to make him hate me, as so many did. I have an immense amount of pride, and even in my darkest moments, that’s never vanished. He would have revived a strange sort of competitiveness in me that I’d not experienced in months. He’d become my norm. I’d find enjoyment in bantering with him, rather than the misery I felt in the bars. He’d be kind to me, and I would think I’d give up my fight eventually, and we would somehow come together. Most likely in a night of high emotion, because that is how the two of us have operated in immortality.
And that’s that. In this strange scenario where we’d both be mortals, I’m sure he would have refueled a fire in me, and I can only imagine that I’d be unable to avoid him. Lestat is inevitable. A reality in which I’d meet him and not love him seems incomprehensible. If there are alternate universes as portrayed in science fiction, I’m positive that I love him in every one of them.
Sexual styles and history vary so much depending on the ship, whether they’re mortal or immortal, the age of the character, and so many different factors…
What your really asking is about relationship dynamics, the balance of power, the level of dependency on eachother, the amount of trust, how often they’re even in the mood, etc. All those things fluctuate over time.
Lestat wanted to answer this in a snarky way but I’ll try anyway:
Lestat
Style w/ mortals: He’s always enjoyed taking the Little Drink while snuggling after sex, or during. This is how he can get away with having innocent blood now and then, as a treat. He tends to top.
Style w/ Louis: In the past, he would have to get Louis so worked up with foreplay that he’s completely begging for the D, or blood, or both. Currently, Lestat loves it when Louis takes control and bosses him around.
History: There’s fanon out there that suggests he was sexually abused as a child, well into his teens. I think that would help explain his difficulty in learning how to love properly, as he comes across as overly sexually demanding (like literally throwing himself on Louis), at least in movie!IWTV.
Louis:
Style w/ mortals: Louis doesn’t have sex with mortals (except one OC that I won’t mention YET AGAIN) bc he doesn’t get that close to mortals. But he does get crushes on them occasionally, like Babette Freneire.
Style w/ Lestat: See above. In the past, Louis was conflicted in his feelings for Lestat, his first (or second) male lover, and would prefer Lestat to be the aggressor, and then punish himself later for enjoying it. Currently, Louis especially enjoys calling/sexting Lestat during business meetings and getting him painfully turned on.
History: There’s fanon out there that suggests Louis had one male lover before Lestat, but for the most part, his sexual history was just getting drunk and sleeping with prostitutes. He had issues equating sex with love, it took him a long time to learn it, and is now very comfortable with expressing his feelings sexually.
Armand:(I really should leave this to the Armand and Daniel RPers)(BUT I CANNOT LEAVE A QUESTION UNANSWERED IT IS A PERSONAL FLAW)
Style w/ mortals: Armand doesn’t have sex with mortals unless he’s sharing them with Daniel. Armand wouldn’t kill these, he makes sure they get home safely.
Style w/ vampires: I would imagine that Armand was a generous lover with Louis, almost always the one to initiate. Currently he can be a bossy bottom, and likes it when his lovers initiate.
History: he was in brothels as a mortal, and it took him some time to learn to trust others. Marius was his first loving relationship, and Armand was rebellious then, seemingly unable to accept gentleness, because of his past.
Marius:
(I really should leave this to the Armand and Marius RPers)(BUT I CANNOT LEAVE A QUESTION UNANSWERED IT IS A PERSONAL FLAW)
Style w/ mortals: Marius has occasionally slept with the models he paints. He is always in control of anything that happens.
Style w/ vampires: Marius has occasionally slept with the models he paints. He is always in control of anything that happens.
History: We don’t have much canon support for Marius’ sexual history, but he did have a long term ship with Pandora in which he was unable to get it up on their wedding night but y’know, performance issues, it’s not uncommon. One out of five…
I think it’s true that everyone in the fandom has, at some point, had a massive crush on Louis.
Psssst we know that, Louis.
I do think Louis was a gateway drug for alot of fandom ppl. It’s his story at first. I read the books in order and I’d recommend doing it that way, even tho it’s not necessary. TVL really is a response to IWTV, and part of the charm of that book is Lestat’s joy at breaking open the floodgate to release all the forbidden answers to all the burning questions Louis had in IWTV. I loved Lestat more knowing that alot of his bastardness in IWTV was frustration that he was sworn to secrecy, and couldn’t risk putting Louis, Claudia, and himself in danger by telling them any of it at that time.
I think this varies from person to person in the fandom, and some ppl despise Lestat, and have from whatever book they started in. Like the movie itself, he’s not for everyone and doesn’t have to be.
My gateway drug was Claudia, and then Louis, and then Lestat. How crazy that the antagonist of IWTV ends up being, very quickly in this series, the lead and clearly the protagonist? As the series shows, he’s not wholly an antagonist to Louis. It wasn’t so black and white, as it is in real life, there were misunderstandings and gray areas.
Curious why she wants to know. I mean, I can guess why…but hmm really?
Interesting; I actually have mixed feelings about her asking and about how far she should…
^Interesting little thread re: what People of the Page have responded to AR’s question.
IDK what I would want. Fanworks kinda satisfy me in ways canon hasn’t, especially in getting more of characters I wanted to hear about and exploring existing canon ships. I take every new VC book as AU fanfic and can pick and choose things from it to assimilate into my headcanon.
Sometimes when I go hundreds pages deep into people’s Tumblr archives, I find really funny posts and I weigh the pros and cons of liking/reblogging them.
Pros: I’ll have access to them later because they’re fucking hilarious
Cons: They might think I’m creepy. Despite the fact that it’s public and on the Internet, it is not socially acceptable to let anyone know the extent that you creeped their archives.
I hereby extend blanket permission for anyone to creep on my archive, and to like and reblog posts from it if they want to. It’s really quite flattering.
