“Louis de Pointe du Lac, already described above but always fun to envisage: slender, slightly less tall than Lestat, his maker…"- Armand, the Vampire Armand
I don’t think it gets more specific than that in canon, but you know Lestat would be throwing a massive hissy fit about it every other book if Louis was taller than him bc ‘Stat is the biggest baby about height.
Generally, height doesn’t matter much when you’re horizontal ❤
This is a good question and it took me awhile to figure out the difference (and I might be wrong, so other ppl can reblog w/ their own explanation).
The confusion is bc “Verse” is an abbreviation for “universe,” and “AU” is an abbreviation for “Alternate Universe.” The difference is mainly in that the former is usually applied to RP and the latter is usually applied to fanfic and fanart, but both words can be used for both.
A “Verse” (lots of different words for this, different RPers make them up) is more for RPers, bc it’s a time period set in canon, or a non-canon time period chosen between the RPers who are roleplaying together.
– So you can have a Louis RPer and a Lestat RPer referring to “Verse:One Happy Family” (or whatever name they choose for it), which refers to the time period in canon in which those muses were living with Claudia and all three of them were happy, before Claudia started to actually grow up.
– Or, you can have a Verse that is NOT in canon, like “Verse:Italian Tales” (or whatever name they choose for it) in which a Gabrielle RPer and an OC RPer are roleplaying stories from Gabrielle’s childhood in Italy, which was not explicitly written about in canon.
An "Alternate Universe” is more typically used in fanfic or fanart in which the characters and canon have been rearranged somehow, like a female!Lestat, or the idea like: Enkil awoke in 1984 and he is mindlessly on the warpath, terrorizing the world, and Akasha is trying to enlist the other vampires to help stop him. My fave AUs are ones in which lots of canon, fanon, or headcanon is part of the story.
– There is an incomplete fanfic on AO3 called The Grim Brothers that basically casts the VC characters into a Grim’s fairy tale, and they are not vampires in it, but some things from canon are retained or reworked: Louis and David are stepbrothers, which is technically sort of true!
Chris Evans I see more as Daniel Molloy, don’t you think? Yeah, he has a Roman enough face/build for a young Marius but Marius is not likely to get a movie before Lestat does.
But hey, I wouldn’t stand in the way of Evans doing a screen test as Lestat *u* He is almost too muscular for my taste, but I’ll deal with it, somehow, lol.
He actually says he’s 6 ft tall in canon, and google converts that to 182.88 cm. Much to Armand’s chagrin and before you ask, I don’t know Armand’s height, not sure if that was explicitly stated in canon, but it is fanon that he is on the shorter end of the coven.
Innnnteresting choice, I don’t know her work, only just googled her, but I’d screen test Sherri Saum! She does NOT look like she’s 40. I don’t remember how old Merrick was supposed to be, but I like the idea of her as a Real Adult Woman since she has to seduce Louis, and he was turned at 24, IIRC, so that could be very hawt, a slightly older lady, not yet a cougar, bewitching a younger man. We don’t see enough of that.
^She has some solid sass in the vids and gifs I saw, that’s for sure, which is a necessary component to Merrick. Superficially she is gorgeous and I love her hair! Such great volume.
^Great smile, too *u* She can already wrap you around her finger w/o resorting to Voo Doo, probably.
Hello there, another anon! 😉 Right off the bat, check out @remarried, she is hella awesome ❤ garama used to make cool VC art but he doesn’t anymore and deleted most of his old stuff but check out his blog anyway and @i-want-my-iwtv (aside from having an awesome VC blog herself!) has a nice collection of his works. @ashetray did some hella rad VC fanarts, so did @devmin-art. But I reccommend going into @i-want-my-iwtv‘s fanart tag, you will surely find something to enjoy 😉
I probably forgot some people and I’m going to feel super bad in 3… 2… 1…
*appears in a magical sparkly cloud poof* DID SOMEONE SUMMON MOI?
Yes, @sheepskeleton is among those she mentioned as great fanartists in our fandom! We do have a bunch more active ones, but there is definitely some gold (older works or works by artists who have only done a small number of VC pieces) in my #fanart tag. All of our fanartists are awesome and some are even open to suggestion, if you send them an ask with a good prompt.
Some other VC fanartists that come to mind in addition to those already mentioned above, in no particular order:
Then there are a few I would recommend bc altho they do not post as often, they are definitely worth checking out (please do NOT take it personally if I didn’t mention you here, these are just the names that immediately come to mind):
As usual, I gotta say that it’s not JUST about appearance, so I’m open to suggestions, and it would need to be someone who can make the transition between mortal and vampire really well.
THAT SAID: I would be looking for someone close to their 20’s, or looks like it, with luscious dark hair, A+ artist brooding skills, a smile that can melt your heart, and an almost feral edge, this is not your boy-next-door, but someone w/ razor sharp wit ever at the ready to stab you with, but he keeps it back as much as he can. Leashed cruelty.
Major plus if they can play violin, too, bc I know ppl are going to be watching their damn fingering and will criticize them up and down, even if they get training with it, bc violinning is such a huge part of that character.
Some ideas (in no particular order), and there are more in my #Nicolas de Lenfent tag, I’m just picking some favorites here:
Thank you for this comment, bc I did some real percolating on it and I am happy to answer you.
I tagged it that way bc often I’ll see posts on my dash where someone has used a gif from a source, which hasn’t been tagged, and I’ll see tags or comments like, “Who is this hot guy?!” “Where is this from?!” which is so sad, bc they might really want to know and get into that fandom! So in tagging it #Supernatural, it’s actually free advertising BACK to Supernatural; someone might see my post on their dash, and think, “What is this from? Oh, it’s tagged Supernatural. Maybe I should check that show out, this guy looks like he could be a great actor…” And then you might gain awesome fresh blood in your fandom, who could turn out to be your new best friend (or even something more!, ppl meet the love of their life through fandom, I kinda hope to do so, too) ^_____^
I also enjoy the fact that other fandoms bleed into each other sometimes, bc fandom is an umbrella concept over so many of them (if not all). There are even crossover fanworks (fic, memes, etc.) between fandoms and different works of media, often enriching the experience of both. Especially when you have someone who can make really great meta-analysis comparing some aspect of one fandom to another, they might even make you ship smtg you never thought you’d ship.
As an example: One of our fandom ppl has moved onto the MCU!Avengers, but specifically the Steve Rogers/Tony Stark ship, and they convinced me that that ship has alot of similarity with Louis/Lestat. And now I can’t unsee it, and you could all lose me to Stony someday.
^Lestat/Louis meet Tony Stark/Steve Rogers, hilarity ensues. This is a fanwork that crossovers two different fandoms, and so much is conveyed without any dialogue at all, it’s all in the facial expressions and body positions and it gives me such feels whenever I look at it. Drawn by @americancaptaincomic
All that said, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has posted that gif with the #Supernatural tag. If you want a pure SPN tag, you can run your own blog and keep it as pure and clean as you like! And I don’t say that w/ any intended sassy attitude, it’s just a fact, and even though I wanted to keep my blog purely VC, I have found that embracing other fandoms is more inclusive and really does enrich the experience.
No one is saying you/we can’t have them, but I think it’s bc VC ships began sailing before ship naming was thing (which I think began gaining traction with Ben Affleck/Jennifer Lopez being “Bennifer” and Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie being “Brangelina”). Our ships were sailing even before “shipping” as a term was a thing! That said, I seem to recall seeing “Loustat” as a ship name for Louis/Lestat in the past few years, but can’t think of any others.
Go ahead and name your ships if you like, we’ll see if any catch on!
