Oh, to think that I thought I was suffering before. Naive me. Favouring the doomed, as if tumblr didn’t warm me. God do I love the book though, I can not thank you enough for keeping my interest alive by your blog until I could read on. ♥

You are so welcome! When encouragement isn’t enough I do throw grapes…

[^Quote from @goddessofidiocy]

Tbh even though Antonio Banderas Armand wasn’t exactly canon, he was still better than the Armand in The Queen of the Damned movie XD

Banderas!Armand was 85% Santino and 15% Armand. He was Armand in name and title, everything else was Santino.

The Armand in movie!QOTD (Matthew Newton) is no Botticelli angel himself ok? And I’m sorry bc I know some ppl actually really liked him, but look:

image

^This was one of the only pics I found where he looks remotely like the

Botticelli paintings and he’s still pretty far off.

image

^He looks more like a Claudia cosplayer tbh. Same lipstick color, strand of beads necklace, the humidity has wilted his perm tho.

I think rejecting completly an actor for a rumor ( that nobody have ever heard before and just can barely find any information ) is pretty extreme. Leto is a very dedicated and hard-working actor, he have gone to the point of being on a wheelchair just to get a character right. And is a very talented musician. I not even a fan of him, but I do have a lot of respect for his work, and I feel people should give him a chance.

FYI: I am 100% done with this topic and I’m deleting ALL future Asks about it. All. Even if he is cast in the new movie.

There are many places where this topic can be discussed, but it is NOT appropriate on a blog that is here to highlight a certain fandom and is focused on entertainment, and where I do my best to keep it politically-neutral, fair-minded, and civil. That is my prerogative on my own blog.

To address your points, which are hopefully more naive than trolling for a fight:

  • An actor’s/musician’s dedication to – or quality of – their craft does not eliminate the possibility that they committed crimes of repeated acts of sexual abuse of underage women. Combined with fame, acting skills and musicianship could in fact make someone a more dangerous predator. We’ve seen this happen far too often just in the last decade in the film and music industries.
  • The fact that we can barely find any information about these accusations could mean that the crimes are being covered up by his PR agents or whoever else, not that the crimes did not occur.
  • The fact that we are only now hearing about these accusations could mean any number of things, such as the victims could not come forward sooner, as is the case with many victims of this type of crime. Fear of their attacker is one possible reason; many victims are threatened into silence until they gain enough emotional support and are able to come forward with the truth.
  • If being “extreme” is my rationally stating my own opinion that I wouldn’t cast him if it were up to me, ok, I’m being “extreme.”

So I will restate for the 3rd time what I’ve stated 2x: Currently I don’t want a Leto!Lestat bc true or false, we don’t need that kind of baggage in our fandom, and:

There are PILES of younger actors out there who can play Lestat bc Boone wants this to be a trilogy w/ TV spinoffs and we need someone who can play 20 or 21 yrs old for a long time, and Leto altho he does not look like it is 44 yrs old.

Could I maybe get. A happy birthday from lestat its my 19th birthday today 😊

♛Bon anniversaire, ma petite! I would send you a doll, but some girls outgrow them at a certain age, apparently. Myself, I’m over 200 years old and I love dolls. There’s no accounting for taste in some people.

I love how everytime someone meets Louis for the first time theres pages and pages describing his beauty. its kind of hilarious but also makes it kind of impossible for me to imagine anyone who could be cast in the new adaption. do you have any ideas

image

YEP SAME HERE and that’s another reason why I am so attached to Brad’s Louis, I mean c’mon, he was in his long-haired sexy prime in the early-mid 90s. Men at the time were complaining that he was too feminine to be sexy but that’s part of what we frickin’ loved about him.

@lettersfromjericho put it so eloquently here:

I love how in all the books, regardless of whose talking Louis is described as ‘the pretty one’. Vampires in Anne Rice novels are all described as being beautiful in some way, death making them so. But in a supernatural world populated by Beauties, characters need to spend pages gushing about Louis looks. His utter bafflement at this and the other characters gushing make me laugh every time its brought up. [X]

Casting Louis is going to be SO hard bc everyone’s headcanon varies. I want an animated movie bc fanart always depicts him better than any casting idea, for me anyway *pouts bc we will never get an animated VC movie

Dig around in my #vc casting tag for Louis ideas, I’d rather not name picks here and open up that discussion bc I’m not really committed to the ones in my casting tag, and really, as long as he has strong chemistry with the actor cast as Lestat, we can all probably accept some physical deviations from canon.

How do you feel about the rumors that Jared Leto will be the lead in the upcoming Vampire Chronicles?! My brain is still trying to wrap itself around the new book and the fact they’re making a new film adaptation for the series.

*Although I may have acted somewhat excited about it a few months ago (and I don’t want to edit the post bc that’s a time capsule as to how I felt then), currently I don’t want a Leto!Lestat bc of the accusations against Leto, which you can google yourself bc I’m NOT going there. True or false, we don’t need that kind of baggage in our fandom, and there are PILES of younger actors out there who can play Lestat bc Boone wants this to be a trilogy w/ TV spinoffs and we need someone who can play 20 or 21 yrs old for a long time, and Leto altho he does not look like it is 44 yrs old.

is it a thing that people don’t like movie armond?

ARMAND.

[WWDITS/IWTV mashup by @luthi69]

Antonio Banderas is one of the fandom’s punching bags re: being cast as Armand in that movie, when that character is in fact described as being around 15-16 yrs old, w/ auburn hair, who looks more like a Botticelli angel than a real person. Alot of Armand fans are more than hopeful that the actor cast as Armand in the new adaptation will be more accurate to canon.

I initially felt the same way about movie!IWTV’s Banderas!Armand, that he was so very wrong. But then I considered it further and came up w/ a lot of reasons (#Defending Antonio) to justify that casting, so you can give my reasons a chance or not if you’d rather join in the fun of beating this dead horse bc I know I have my own dead horses to beat, so have at it!

New book! I still need to read Prince Lestat too…. oh well. Now that I have a job I can buy them, lol. I also wanted to tell you I made my cousin watch IWTV for the first time last night! Lestat was her fave but she felt sad for Claudia and Louis too.

Take your time, there’s no rush. Books are patient creatures.

Bringing your cousin into this: yesssss, fresh blood for the fandom ^______^

It’s endlessly amusing to me that Lestat is the real winner in that movie, bc Tom made him so lovable despite the cruelty he inflicts on everyone around him, and Brad solidified many ppl’s impression of Louis as a sad-sack and Kirsten made Claudia well… someone who deserved all the sympathy.

So I have a question that maybe you could answer? Why are people not excited for the new book? I definitely understand that the new title and storyline sounds a bit iffy but I just thought people would be excited that Anne Rice is writing new books and continuing the series. I know I’m a bit younger than most in this fandom, IWTV came out wayy before I was even born so maybe that’s why I don’t understand haha. Thanks!

Some ppl definitely ARE excited for the new book! There was alot of excitement and cautious optimism for Prince Lestat

I feel like I have a good perspective on this bc I have been in this fandom for 20+ years even tho book!IWTV came out before I was born, too. I’d have to ask a more veteran fandom person what it was like when they got the sequel(s) to IWTV! I got into the fandom right before the movie came out in ‘94, when we only had the first 4 books, so I looked forward to every new book with some level of excitement and that’s hard to shake even now *u*

New titles and storylines have often sounded more than a bit iffy and there has often been resistance to each new VC book. Alot of ppl didn’t think they would like TOBT or MtD, and some read those and still refuse to accept either as canon.

image

[X] Ppl have their own ideas of the characters in their minds. As AR continues delve into their perspectives on previous events and give them new stories in each new book, some ppl choose to “get off the bus” along the way, bc they don’t necessarily trust her vision and they don’t want to see their fave character(s) in characterization they feel is off, or forced into plots that make no sense, etc. And we can’t blame AR for this but the trainwreck that was movie!QOTD, so much was off that it was offensive, and yet, surprisingly, some ppl find that movie nostalgic! ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Some ppl actually trust the fanfic writers and/or fanartists more than the author at this point, bc many of our awesome fanfic writers and fanartists learned the voices and attitudes of the characters and try to keep them in the style that drew us to them in the first place ❤
