People who commit monstrous crimes are not necessarily monsters. If they were, things would be easy. But they aren’t and it is one of the experiences of life.
“People
don’t do things to be evil, they do things because
they think they’re right, and they think what they’re doing is right and it
just so happens that it can be evil to others.”
“Might as well ask heaven what it sees, no human can know….”
Y’know, I have lost count… definitely has to be more times than Neil Jordan has seen it. Maybe more times than it’s editor has seen it. The fact that I have a copy of it to pull gifs and screencaps from makes it so I can watch it frame-by-frame in excruciating detail and even re-edit parts of it to suit my needs but WHAT ARE YOU IMPLYING??!!
I will add that one weekend, around Halloween one year, it was on TV alot, and I ended up watching it 4 times in one weekend and THAT IS TOO MUCH. Even for me.
My favorite viewings are with other ppl though, where we say the lines out loud and make fun of all the stuff that can be made fun of.
“Now I knew her to be less human than either of us, less human than either of us might have dreamed. Not the faintest conception bound her to the sympathies of human existence. “
“I was a sad, lonely kid when I found the VC. I found beautiful characters that were sad & lonely too; who felt wrong about who they were but were learning to live & love anyway. I saw myself in them & as I grew to love them, I grew to love myself too.”
There are wonderful things in these characters and stories, I’ve definitely found more than one quote especially useful in my formative years. What are some of your favorite quotes/concepts? I’ve always loved this one:
“But you love books, then,” Aunt Queen was saying. I had to listen. “Oh, yes,” Lestat said. “Sometimes they’re the only thing that keeps me alive.” “What a thing to say at your age,” she laughed.
“No, but one can feel desperate at any age, don’t you think? The young are eternally desperate,” he said frankly. “And books, they offer one hope – that a whole universe might open up from between the covers, and falling into that new universe, one is saved.” –Blackwood Farm
But, we can’t cut Louis’ evil out of the conversation. His own cocktail of potent feelings for his…daughter, sister, friend, almost-lover? Whatever she was. Whatever she continues to be.
Louis’s evil is that he kills indiscriminately, which Akasha points out makes him “the most predatory of all the immortals here. You kill without regard for age or sex or will to live.”
But yeah, back to the NOTP of Louis/Claudia, I thought it was very well-handled in the movie. Which I consider almost canon bc AR did write the screenplay and was consulted on it alot. My notes in ().
Louis: “Listen to me. Claudia is very dear to me. (pause, feeling like he needs to actually specify the relationship?) She’s my daughter.”
Armand: “Your lover.” (and he mouths this word again silently bc he’s TEH JEALOUS)
Louis: “Well my beloved. My CHILD.” (He’s being very clear here, NOT LOVER)
Armand: “You say so, you are innocent.” (Armand knows that she didn’t come out of Louis’s wrist)
Louis: “She’s in danger, isn’t she?” (Tactically changing the subject so as not to bring up Lestat).
Truthfully she was his sister. But so is Gabrielle. Gabrielle is sort of his sister, Grandmother, and Mother-in-Law all rolled into one. WHAT A MESS.
When his life was ruined, his family killed, his farm destroyed, he knelt down on the ground and yelled up to the heavens, ‘Why, God? Why me?’ and the thundering voice of God answered, ‘There’s just something about you that pisses me off.’

(I assume you mean more than just unconscious sleep, which yes, he did sleep with her, that’s canon)
Y’know that’s smtg I’ve thought about, too. Was it only her body/age that was the obstacle there? She seemed to think so… or so it seems from what Louis shares with us re: just a few times when she even opened the subject with him.
Particularly that time in Europe when they had just killed the Icky Gross Mindless Vampire, and they’re totally exhausted and hungry, and she offers him her wrist:
“ `Drink,’ she whispered, drawing nearer. `Drink.’ And she held the
soft, tender flesh of the wrist towards me. ‘No, I know what to do;
haven’t I done it in the past?’ I said to her.” <—- REJECTED. I don’t think Claudia shared blood w/ either Lestat or Louis, at least not in any intimate way, ever, which had to have been part of her not-growing-up frustration.
SO BACK TO THE QUESTION AT HAND:
No, I don’t think Louis would have slept with Claudia if she had been turned at 18+ bc there were more obstacles than just her physical form.
For one thing, Louis was in a relationship already with Lestat, even though it was a problematic one.
The chemistry between people (even IRL) has to work in that way for there to be any sexual attraction.
He always cared for her like a daughter. She was very much his own security blanket, a buffer and a glue between him and Lestat.
She was less human than either of them, which did not seem to be something that made her more attractive, but less comprehensible to him: ” `I love you now with my human nature, if ever had it,’ I said to her.
“ `Ah yes …’ she answered, still musing. `Yes, and that’s your flaw,
and why your face was miserable when I said as humans say, ” I hate
you, “ and why you look at me as you do now. Human nature. I have
no human nature.’ ”
Also, in terms of canon vampire physiology, the Ricean vampires seem to be asexual, blood gives them all the satisfaction they need/want in that regard. It’s in fanon and RP that they’re sexual.
As a side note, claudiaindarkness might have some good opinions on this, bc she often RPs Claudia aged up. thevampire-claudia also had a thread in which Claudia was aged up and *ahem* had some private time with a Louis (merciful-death) if u need some tasteful au smut ;]
