Itâs spooky, Â itâs smart, thematic and has splashes of the otherworldly but itâs mostly a historical mystery

8. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
Why so perfect for fall? The emphasis on education makes this feel especially appropriate to read during back-to-school season.
This turn of the century coming-of-age story is an American classic for good reason. The beautifully crafted tale pulls you into Francieâs story and has you rooting for her as she grows up in challenging circumstances. There is an undercurrent of hope that buoys everything
9. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
One of Agatha Christie most famous mysteries, the eerie setting, and countdown of survivors makes for a satisfying mystery with a slightly Halloween-inspired feel. Add in the narrative following the childrenâs verse, and the disappearing soldiers mimicking the fallen guests and there is a decided sense of menace to the text.
10. The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury
This is a fast-moving, eerieâŚtale set on Halloween nigh. Eight costumed boys running to meet their friend Pipkin at the haunted house outside town encounter instead the huge and cadaverous Mr. Moundshroud. As Pipkin scrambles to join them, he is swept away by a dark Something, and Moundshroud leads the boys on the tail of adventures. This book is actually for kids but I read it last year at the age of 18 and I loved it and learned a lot about Halloweens history.
(Also I loved the movie as a kid)

I feel like the reason certain dog-lovers insist cats are evil is because they read their body language as if they were dogs. So hereâs a very basic guide to common âmeanâ things cats do that actually arenât mean at all if you know what theyâre thinking.
Rolling and exposing belly- attacks you when touched Does not mean: Give belly rubs! – haha I tricked you! Actually means: Iâm playful! If you reach for my belly Iâll grab your arm and bite it because I think weâre playfighting!Â
Lazily exposing belly – still attacks when touched Does not mean: tricked you again! Actually means: Iâm showing you my belly because I trust you. Please donât break that trust by invading my personal space. I might accept a belly rub if Iâm not ticklish and I know you well.
Snapping at you while being pet Does not mean: I suddenly decided I dislike you! Actually means: Youâre petting me in a way that gives me too much restless energy. Please focus on petting my head and shoulders instead of stroking the full length of my back next time.
Is in the same room but makes no attempt to interact Does not mean: Â Iâm ignoring you Actually means: Weâre hanging out! Iâm being respectful by giving you space while still enjoying your company.
Slapping/scratching your hand when you try to pet them Does not mean: I hate you! Actually means: Youâve failed to establish that weâre not playing, or the way youâre approaching me scares me. Be calmer, speak more gently, make eye-contact and blink slowly at me before you try again.
Iâm sorry but if I need a pamphlet to understand cats, I donât want them
Would say the same about a human? Doubt it.
My dad always says âcats are just humans tooâ and that actually a really good thing to keep in mind. No, cats arenât human but they have preferences and wishes that they canât communicate to us using words so they use actions.
Itâs no different to a person trying to communicate their own needs but not knowing how to phrase them.
If we make an effort to understand, weâre rewarded with trust and love.
vampire chronicles âtheyre totally straightâ discourse has been ongoing for literally 40 years and im finding the BEST garbage on the internet tonight
i just want to say that the punchline to this post is that these are all from comments on a single io9 article, and that articles title is

!!Look what u did you broke Lestat! Dude, the compliments were for ME, not for you! Pfffft. Iâll give him a good slap heâll be fine ;] #Percussive maintenance.
Itâs not in Armandâs nature to be simply happy. He has known joy and a sense of belonging at various points in his life; heâs even been in love. Currently he feels a sense of peace in being needed by those he spends time with.
Whether you ship Daniel/Marius or Daniel/Armand, I think Armand spends time with both Daniel and Marius; and feels loved to some extent by the whole coven. Armand likes to pull different members for trips to the galleries or shopping, but his favorite thing is lazing about the house playing chess with Louis or having a lively debate with David on art history, architecture being a favorite topic. Â
Occasionally he hunts with Lestat, where they can both feel a little more relaxed, away from the scrutiny of others (who actually encourage the friction w/o meaning to do so, just bc theyâre afraid it will happen and keep making furtive glances at Lestat and Armand to the point where they do sometimes crack under the pressure and pick a fight over nothing).
If you wanted Armandâs current vampire happenings re: Prince Lestat, which I struggle to accept as canon YES EVEN NOW over a year later i know get out ma faaace here ya go:
According to Prince Lestat, Armand was living in a gorgeous old building (which, of course, he spruced up to his exacting luxurious specifications) on the upper east side of NY w/ Louis, Sybelle and Benji. Eventually Antoine (the unnamed musician vampire from IWTV, Lestatâs alleged 5th fledgling who had gone unmentioned up until PL) arrived at their door and was welcomed by all.
Throughout the story of Prince Lestat, Armand does little other than be supportive of Lestat, in a way that almost seems obsequious. Not much really happens for Armand, he rides out the whole drama pretty unscathed.
So currently he is pretty content with things and enjoying the company of Sybelle and Benji, and whoever else wants to chill with him.
