“You are so clever, aren’t you, Sherlock Holmes. So very clever. Perhaps I should keep you…”

when i was 12 or 13 i got way into the vampire chronicles and ended up reading so many awful vampire novels because of it and p much nothing topped lestat okay

what a little bitch

also there were only four books nothing after body thief counts you can’t convince me otherwise memnoch who da fuck is that idek

And Lestat would be SO into Sherlock and would turn him and then be completely surprised when their relationship became a clusterfuck. But he’d still hold out hope! 😀

marius-de-romanus:

ooc: btw this is p random but i felt the need to voice my opinion so if you’re not interested feel free to ignore it!!

See, I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about Marius’ personality, not only here, but among good part of VC fans who I’ve came across in the past regarding his book Blood and Gold. I would like to point some things that I find important and that maybe would help you to have a second thought about it.

I reblogged from the source and cut it for length, but give this a read, this is very well-said, and applicable to many of the problematic characters in the VC.

They were human once, they’re not perfect creatures. I think if there was one message AR really wanted us to take away from the entirety of canon, it would probably be: These characters are like us, imperfect, searching for answers, longing to belong, to love, and be loved in return.

Some choices made in pursuit of those things are impulsive, some are well-planned, some had terrible results in retrospect, but hindsight is 20/20. We can only learn from the past and try to make better choices, moving forward… ask for forgiveness for our trespasses and strive to forgive those who trespassed against us ❤

marius-de-romanus:

When I read Blood and Gold for the first time, I felt a slight emptiness, and that familiar feeling of disappointment in the pit of my stomach after knowing closely some of his choices and attitudes – and more than that; his true persona, after all. But after a while thinking about it, I realized that no matter how wrong he was by some of his choices, each one of them made who he truly is: selfish, yes, but compassionate, an artist, melancholic, and undoubtedly proud, but good and gentle at heart.

He is far from being perfect even though we enjoyed to believe that he was due to numerous descriptions we had of him in TVA, TVL, QOTD and Pandora. But he isn’t. He commits mistakes as everyone else, and if we were to compare him to Louis, Lestat and Armand, for example, judging by all the years that Marius is alive, I honestly don’t think his mistakes were so numerous. Some of them were intense, and most of them regrettable, yes, but I do not think that makes him a “bad character” or that he is any less of what Lestat, Pandora, Armand, etc, describe in their respective books.

Only because he was described by many as a “sage”, a “philosopher”, etc, it doesn’t change the fact that before he was turned, he was also a human. And Marius, in my opinion, is one of the most “human” vampires among the coven. His mistakes were in it’s majority also ridiculously human, being driven by the impulse of his emotions.

So I think that instead of focusing only on the bad things, you also should remember how wonderful his good side is. How loving, caring, compassionate, intelligent and cultured Marius is.

Marius was not the only one to commit mistakes. And it is good that he did because it’s a nice reminder that not even “immortal beings” are perfect, no matter how godlike they appear to be.

Therefore, my point is: instead of simply judging and saying that he is a shitty character because he was not what you thought he was, give it a second thought. No one is made only by their good sides, nor by their mistakes alone.

To like him or dislike him is personal, though. Yet, to say that his character sucks only because you don’t like it…. it’s hella stupid and makes me hella pissed.

First up – love the blog. You do a great job with it all and make me laugh, sometimes so manically that I scare those around me. So thank you. Secondly, I require your (and anyone else’s) help. I’m currently designing some cross-stitch bookmarks to sell on Etsy. I’m thinking of doing a few VC designs (esp for the first 3 books and movie), but am lost for ideas! Perhaps the titles of the books? If you could provide me with any quotes, phrases or images to use I would be very grateful! Thank you!

Merci beaucoup! Good to know I am achieving the goals of interruptive-laughter-causing and bursting blood vessels through fanworks! ❤ YOU SHALL CONTINUE TO GET MORE OF THIS HIGH QUALITY MADNESS.

Cross-stitch bookmarks with VC quotes! I admit that my initial reaction is Yes DO THE THING!

Second reaction, must warn you, this type of fanwork is toeing the line of copyright infringement… :-

HOWEVER, I have seen Etsy items (and other sites) that have products which used VC quotes over the years, so I’m thinking that quotes may be acceptable… or not worth the legal battle to the copyright holders.

Here’s an example of one thing I found just now

image

It’s a decorative tile that says: “Your body’s dying. Pay no attention. It happens to us all.” which is a movie!IWTV quote, not canon. It even has Lestat’s name on it, since he says it, and it’s sitting there for sale. I feel like you’re safer with movie quotes, but it’s your choice.

So as far as things to use for your bookmarks, dig around in my #quote and #actual quote tags.

As far as a few of my fave movie!IWTV quotes…

  • I’m flesh and blood, but not human. I haven’t been human for 200 years.
  • I’m going to give you the choice – I – never had.
  • You can pretend it’s wine.
  • I know nothing of God, or the Devil. I have never seen a vision, nor learned a secret, that would damn or save my soul. And as far as I know, after 400 yrs, I am the oldest living vampire in the world.
  • Merciful Death, how you love your precious guilt.
  • I want some more.

Anyone have any quotes they want on bookmarks? Send it to andwefaeries!

thank you! I had a feeling telling you would be a good idea since your blog is chockful of vc goodness

You’re so welcome!

That’s the original purpose -and still a major one- of my blog: to be a collection of inspiration to the fanartists in making more yummy fanworks to feeeeed the VC addiction of all of us adorable fanged little trash kittens ❤

lestatemperorofthedead, What a lovely message! *flails*

♥u♥ ONE OF US ONE OF US (Apparently we’re calling ourselves Children of Darkness now, btw)

(BTW our mutual facepalming over Lestat was probably about this post)

Yes yes, memeything/fanart/fanfic/fanwork inspiration is, in actuality, the highest compliment to this blog, bc that’s REALLY what I do it for. When I started this thing there was fanwork but it was (and still is) all over the interwebs, and in my opinion there is not enough of it there is NEVER enough of it, so I wanted to have a collection of it for everyone’s enjoyment/inspiration, and a good resource for the fresh stuff, too 😀

Wow, your journey to VC is so touching, that our precious Sheeps shepherded you to us, was it this fanart of

Tonio Treschi?

You read Cry to Heaven –> saw sheepskeleton‘s fanart of it > sheepskeleton‘s fanart lead you here > now you’re one of us!!

#I love these kind of stories, and we (I’m sure I speak for others, too) enjoy your presence here. Great url, btw! He is Emperor of the Undead, lol.

I enjoyed Cry to Heaven, I don’t remember it very well, should reread it. I seem to recall that the main character reminded me of Armand.

vcpositivity:

“Shout out for Queen of the dammed for ending with Louis and Lestat making out in a graveyard and the Lestat saying “let’s go terrorize and old man and then I’ll buy you a coat” which they then do, a sequence of events that never fails to make me laugh and never fails to get s reaction out of non-VC fans when I summarize that ending as such”

Hi! Love your blog more than ever! What are your thoughts on Armand/Louis? Or specifically Louis’ feelings for Armand? Louis always seems to gravitate towards A whenever he is at loose ends with Lestat. If I am doing the math correctly, they have spent more time as companions than L/L. For some reason, though I love L/L, I am fascinated by A/L. Thanks again for your awesomeness in the VC fandom. <3

Thanks, dearie! What do you love about it specifically, hmmm? Simply my awesomeness in the VC fandom? You don’t need to answer that, my awesome is unquestionable hehehe…

Armand/Louis: To ship or not to ship?

image

[by garama bc apparently I’m having a GARAMA APPRECIATION DAY]

I have alot of Armand/Louis feels. The way they view each other seems built on their first impressions of eachother:

  • Louis saw Armand as the teacher/mentor (and lover??) Lestat could not have been. Armand definitely used some mental persuasion to draw Louis closer, but it seems the attraction was mutual, mostly natural chemistry.
  • Armand saw Louis as someone who could help him see the world anew, through younger eyes, and someone who was very much in tune with their emotions. Armand had closed off alot of those feelings, and was not very connected to any of the vampires in the Theatre des Vampires. Also he wanted Louis as a lover, but don’t we all? Also, Armand had advised Lestat in TVL that your fledglings will never make perfect companions, what you need is someone else’s fledgling. AND, it’s possible that Armand was even more attracted to Louis after reading his mind and knowing he was Lestat’s, whom Armand had a major unrequited crush on.

So they both sort of filled a void for the other, but couldn’t be together initially, as Louis was devoted to Claudia. Armand’s responsibility for her removal is subject to interpretation, whether it was his order or not, and other things that happened to her, but it seems to me that Armand had intended for Claudia to leave with Madeleine. He admitted to forcing Louis to make Madeleine for this purpose.

After all that, you would think Louis would want nothing to do with Armand, but he chose to spend some 100 yrs with Armand before passive-aggressively ignoring him until he left Louis, disgusted and on the verge of suicide, Louis not being a good boyfriend. (vampiredevelopment!)

Your math sounds about right, but a relationship’s quality is not based on the amount of time it lasts. Louis was probably much happier when he was with Lestat and Claudia for some 65 years. Of the 100 yrs he spent with Armand, much of it seems like Louis was going through the motions, letting Armand have him as a companion in various ways, but not really engaged fully in the relationship.

Lestat does often have to go off on his own adventures and leave Louis alone. There’s a kind of mutual respect between Lestat, Armand, and Louis now, it seems all of their past transgressions to each other are mostly water under the bridge.

TL;DR: Louis does still gravitate to Armand, maybe not as the mentor/teacher he saw him as before, but more as an ex-boyfriend that he is on good terms with, someone he cares about, and who cares about him. Extended family.

hyperbeeb:

Now matter how hard you ship Louis and Lestat you will never ship Louis and Lestat as hard as Lestat does.
