HEY. hey. People Off the Page. I have some VC-related or -adjacent messages to reply to, and I will. Just, you know, I didn’t forget ;}

Also top secret special gif in the making… just have to rerender and will upload tonight so stay tuned… ❤

If you could go back and do it over, what would you do differently in terms of teaching Louis how to be a vampire?

devilsfool:

You cannot teach someone ‘how’ to be a vampire, as each experience is entirely unique and different (although I do wonder if Louis would beg to differ on this).

With Louis, I was young and impatient, eager to assuage my own loneliness with his presence, and thus I blundered terribly with him. I have to say, though… Louis could not understand that he already knew what to look for, what to see. Louis’ gentle spirit and inquisitive nature already made him a prime candidate for vampirism, and his desire to learn and know gave him all the tools he needed to experience the world around him with his new senses.

I don’t know, frankly. I fail so often that it’s become rather commonplace at this point, and to continuously go back and say, “Ah, I would have,” or “but if only this” seems utterly pointless.

In short, there is this: Louis knew what to look for, even if he didn’t realise it.

Perhaps I might have actually been honest with him in how much I loved him. Perhaps that might have changed something.

//Sooo on my very stressful and not fun at all vacation I re-read Interview and TVL. I started QotD as well, but only got as far as Jesse’s introduction. Out of the series so far QotD remains my favorite. It’s masterfully put together, with each chapter/section the perfect length, all the while building proper suspense. It does perfectly what PL failed at, which is what disappoints me more about PL than any plot point.

As I read I highlighted passages [*pets my Kindle*] I found interesting/enlightening, especially since I’ve read all the VC books now and have 20/20 hindsight. Putting this under a read-more to save your dash.

I tend to blame Anne for the internalised misogyny (and she has copped to it herself), but I also find it canonically explicable (because I always have this urge to explain annoying canon things rather than disregard them) – I can see Marius (coming from the culture that he does, and having had only brothers, and being very insightful in some ways but really fucking stupid in others) being the kind of clueless misogynist who tells the women he loves that they’re “not like the other girls” and doesn’t grasp how insulting that is.

And god, I would kill for first-person POV books or even fucking sections for Gabrielle and Bianca. She’s at least shown she can still write Gabrielle, and Bianca was one of many characters brought back in PL, but with very little done with her. I’m not holding my breath for it to happen (’least expectations, least disappointment’ seems a good rule of thumb), but it’s a massive hole in the series, to my mind.

How many times have you watched iwtv?

“Might as well ask heaven what it sees, no human can know….”

Y’know, I have lost count… definitely has to be more times than Neil Jordan has seen it. Maybe more times than it’s editor has seen it. The fact that I have a copy of it to pull gifs and screencaps from makes it so I can watch it frame-by-frame in excruciating detail and even re-edit parts of it to suit my needs but WHAT ARE YOU IMPLYING??!!

I will add that one weekend, around Halloween one year, it was on TV alot, and I ended up watching it 4 times in one weekend and THAT IS TOO MUCH. Even for me.

My favorite viewings are with other ppl though, where we say the lines out loud and make fun of all the stuff that can be made fun of.

I do not want to think about the number of times I watched it. I remember I bought it at the bookstore, and stuffed it in my bag so my mother wouldn’t see—I was pretty young and she’d have flipped if she saw me getting it. But since I had to get it at the bookstore and not the local shop, it was twice the price and I wondered if it’d be worth it.

I have more than gotten my money’s worth out of it. I think I watched it four times this month alone. But I don’t do that all the time. Its one of my full time obsessions along with Harry Potter and Marvel (though its more than Marvel but slightly less than Harry Potter, just because I’ve been in the HP one for….eight years more?), so whenever I’m not currently loony over something in the media world, I turn to it when I want something darker/more mature/artsier than the earlier HP movies/books but not as fucking depressing as the later ones. Marvel isn’t that deep, there’s not much to think on, and its fun, but I don’t do much writing on it or analyzing with it. I read a comic in one setting, have one of the films playing while I watch TV. Oh and I forgot Star Wars but that’s like the only film MY ENTIRE FAMILY can sit down and enjoy so that’s always a together thing

With Interview, I can sit down with tea or wine at the end of the day, and the camera slowly pans over San Francisco, the choir in the background, that eerie Latin hymn that I know in English and hear on Sundays but in this setting it speaks of something of another world, a world made safe only by the screen between it and myself. Louis talks shortly with Daniel and then he goes on “The master of a large plantation just south of New Orleans…” and I relax and get lost in this other world and other time. I’ve long lost track of the times I’ve fallen asleep near the end of it, only to wake when Louis finds Lestat in the present day, to stay awake through Louis’ attack on Daniel and then grin when the music turns up and the G n’ R cover of the Stones over powers the whole scene and its almost dawn now, both and their world and in mine.

Its too loud at points and too jarring to be called a lullaby—but I compare it not only to the fact I use it to relax but I’ve never seen a movie (until OLLA) that flowed so well, one segment of the story to the next—its a smooth film.

….

well. I didn’t intend to go that far. But there you have it. For God’s sake please no one mention Phantom or Elisabeth or Labyrinth or request me to do one of these soul spillings for any of the films I listed above, because its late, and alas, I am a member of a dinural species and need my sleep.

I’m currently in love with Lestat. Have a quick little doodle of everyone’s favorite bon vivant who is decidedly not vivant. Ba dum BUM.

Hey, I made a demographics survey for the vc fandom (for curiosity’s sake). Please fill it out if you have the time, and reblog so we can get more accurate results. I’ll post the results in a few weeks. Thank you!

This is a really interesting project and I’m looking forward to seeing the results!

Lestat/Daniel Commission & All The Shippy Feels

kissingandsnugglingdeadthings:

I woke up to the finished product of the tattoo commission in my inbox from sheepskeleton this morning, and all of the feels promptly exploded in my heart:

( Lestat/Daniel commission by sheepskeleton. Her commission’s info is here. Go. Go give her your monies. Fistfuls and bagfuls of monies. All the monies! )

Seriously, commission her, you won’t be sorry. Everything I wanted for this piece, all my requests, I got. She nailed it, guys.

The look between them. I know they’re one of the least popular VC ships out there, but frankly, and especially as I’m looking at this, I don’t give a damn. There’s no decades or centuries worth of bad blood between them yet. There’s no history of betrayal, abandonment, manipulation, or heartbreak between them. Sure, it’s there in their personal experiences, but not with one another, not yet. Would theirs be a waistcoat-ripping, fire-setting, loss-riddled, globe-stalking, psychologically damaging, deliver-you-to-death’s-doorstep romance?

No. But it could be something good. Lestat has been searching for goodness for centuries, and I’ll be damned if Daniel doesn’t deserve some goodness after everything he’s been through. I love this ship for it’s potential. Because it could possibly be functional. Daniel is a listener and Lestat is a talker. Daniel likes kissing and snuggling dead things and Lestat is amourous. Both are risk-takers in their own right so there’s opportunity for lots of fun and adventure. Because these are two personalities that I think would mesh well more often than they would clash. Because Daniel went searching for him and has been vampire fanboy number one for sixty years, and Lestat adores adoration. Because Lestat took the time during the potential annihilation of all of vampire-kind by Akasha to note that Daniel was pretty. Because Daniel would go with Lestat if he asked him too. And if wanting to see a ship that has capacity for good and such potential is wrong, I don’t ever want to be right.
