That sounds very #Lestatuesque, share a picture with us if you have any! He does love gold and sequins and over the top patterns and !SPRAKLES! (which, really, is a much better way to spell “sparkles,” n’est pas?).
♛Lestat here. Louis and I had a wonderful dog, which took some time for him to warm up to as he had nearly killed the poor creature the first time they met! Mojo remembered that, but having such a large heart, Mojo was able to forgive and forget.
There was a cat that made her home with us, a black cat named Harriet. Louis informed me that that was her name.* She is tolerable. I mean, she only lets Louis pet her so you can see why I’m not overly fond of her!
Animals are instinctively wary of us, it’s been a painful side effect of being what we are that dogs in particular often see us as threats and their startled owners are left flustered with apologies like “She never acts this way around strangers normally!” and that sort of thing. Dogs were a great source of solace for me in my youth and I know that Louis loved horses. I have frightened horses into compliance but it’s not the same as the caring relationship one can have with a beloved pet *sighs*
What type of pet would we like if we could have our choice? Louis has always been fond of birds, so I would say that he’d like a pair of lovebirds, or an a talking bird like an African Gray parrot. I’m sure he’d prefer I not teach it curse words, but you know that I would have to do that!
Personally I find large cats like tigers compelling and would love to have one, but I love my interior decoration more, and those two things do not mix. As much of a gentleman as Mojo was, a number of vases and statues fell to their deaths due to an accidentally wagging tail or… admittedly… our impromptu wrestling matches *grins*
♛I adore Bowie. Present and past tenses. Adored and continue to adore.
Your low-key bae? He belonged to many of us, but his complete devotion to Iman was always palpable and endearing…*sigh* I visited him many times, in the eighties up to more recently. We got along very well. We did a few of his songs and a few of mine together, privately. No recording.
[X] We shared the same sense of humor, for sure. Not that I definitely would have given it to him, but we discussed the Dark Gift. He knew what I was. He didn’t want it. I told him before any of the doctors did, I could sense… that his time was limited. I wasn’t ready to lose him, we both thought he had more time to consider it.
♠Lestat is confused as to why you’re directing your questions to me, he’s trying to force me to answer what he would answer, but I am pointedly ignoring him.
It’s not of great interest to me, but I will note that he has gone to considerable research about brushing teeth, he and Daniel bring home these little “self-care” packages: toothpaste of different flavors, devices that spray water or have vibrating bristles, and they test these items out on fruit or each other. I sometimes participate.
There are nights that Lestat returns to me from hunting and his breath is truly atrocious, so he has to do some level of cleansing to be permitted within my personal space. I follow the same etiquette for his sake.
In the past, we would have a basin and would wash before going out, and before going to sleep for the day. Little mortal rituals like these keep us feeling that we have some semblance to humanity still, and perhaps, it is also restorative in the way many acts of taking care of oneself are restorative.
However, it’s not necessary for us to brush our teeth in much the same way, I suppose, as it is unnecessary for wild animals. Perhaps it’s because we do not consume cooked meat, refined sugars, or flavored drinks. Fareed suggests that we have saliva with a high Ph value, which protects the enamel from demineralizing and thus prevents cavities.
I’m baaarely familiar with JJBA, but I do like the fanart! Definitely has a VC quality to it, the glamour, the violence, the fashion…
This is a cropped version of one fanart I reblogged(apparently sometimes he IS a vampire?), by @salamanshe, check the link for the full pic, but yes, very Lestatuesque!
Anyway Louis kills other ppl’s dogs… Lestat doesn’t eat junk food if he can get smtg better 😉
I got my copy at Powell’s City of Books in Portland, Oregon, and I deeply regret not ALSO buying a slim hardcover VC book there that profiled VC fans and was published in the 90′s! Argh. I don’t even remember what it was called. I didn’t imagine it though!! It was REAL. I should beg a certain Portlandian to go for me and see if it’s still there… *cough* you know who you are *cough*
HOWEVER, I see the Vampire Companion on Amazon often, I bet it’s on eBay… and it’s in library book sales, but not as often. I think this is a recently printed edition w/ a new cover but not updated info:
Not to be confused with these “vampire companion” books, which hey, might be good on their own! They’re just not VC.
I get why you might be frustrated, I’m not sure how much VC you’ve read, I hope this answer doesn’t spoil you if you don’t want to be spoiled but here we go…
Lestat was born in 1760. Not sure where you got 1780… I believe you are forgetting the almost 10 yrs Lestat and Gabrielle ~wandered the Devil’s Road~ together, which was from 1780-89. There’s a timeline in the official Vampire Companion (there is some debate about discrepancies of this book to canon, but this book was intended to be the author’s deciding word on canon facts):
Here’s a snippet of the time line, sorry for the warping, but it’s a thick paperback book and I didn’t wanna injure the binding!
Worth noting also: AR underscores that Lestat was 20 when he was turned.*
So by 1791, Lestat is actually like 31 mortal years old, and Louis is in fact younger than he is, at 25 (why they made him 24 in the movie is beyond me bc it’s only a year different? IDK).
*Re: Lestat being turned at 20 or 21, that’s a topic that’s been debated for aaaaages, too, since he says in his book, “In the winter of my twenty-first year, I went out alone on horseback to kill a pack of wolves” and more confusingly, in the timeline above, AR indicates that Lestat is 19 when he goes to Paris w/ Nicolas so I am confusion, but taking Lestat’s line from TVL alone, that it’s his “twenty-first year”:
a baby’s “first year” is actually the day it’s born through it’s one-year birthday;
therefore, Lestat’s “twenty-first year” could be his year from his twentieth-year birthday through his twenty-first year birthday.
(Not that his birthday was celebrated in his house anyway, so it’s really just about whether he gets carded at bars, currently, and he totally does.)
I headcanon that:
Lestat kills the wolves in the winter, sometime after his twentieth birthday, 11/7/1779,
and then goes to Paris w/ Nicki that spring (5/1/1780 maybe).
Lestat and Nicki are working at the theatre for only a few months and then Lestat gets his big break in August: “It came in late August at last.”
Lestat only gets to perform for a few months, at least through October (”But in the month of October when Paris was already freezing,…”).
and then Magnus turns Lestat sometime close to, or before, his actual twenty-first birthday 11/7/1780. Maybe in October or that first week of November.
