I wonder, could you ever turn animals into vampire-animals? Like, can you turn a cat? A dog? A lion? O.o

((When I was 11, I wrote a terrible short fanfic from the POV of a vampire dog which Lestat had turned as an experiment. I don’t remember anything about it except that the dog was pretty happy as a vampire dog… it’s lost to time and space forever. Just thought that might amuse you!))

IDK about vampire animals in other media, I’m sure someone has done it, but IIRC, they’re not in VC canon at all. I don’t know if AR has considered it, with all the implications that follow. Could the world survive packs of vampire dogs and cats? Herds of vampire horses?

Vampire

Lions?

Vampire

Tigers?

Vampire

Bears? Oh my…. Could a vampire chimpanzee (or rat!) turn a human into a vampire? Would it matter if the animal was a herbivore or would it have to be an omnivore, like humans are? If the vampire lab in PL is still running, maybe they’re experimenting on animals. #FIC REQUEST.

In some religions, animals are considered not to have souls at all, or that they lack the same type of soul that humans have. in VC, the soul seems to be a crucial element in anchoring the vampiric spirit to its host body during Dark Gift transfer.

Also, just physiologically, not all infectious diseases are transmittable between animals and humans. For example, humans cannot get Feline AIDS and feline leukemia virus (FeLV) from cats [animalplanet.com].

  • Zoonotic diseases: diseases transmitted from animals to humans through media such as air (like influenza) or through bites and saliva (like rabies).

  • Reverse zoonosis: human viruses that infect other animals.

I headcanon that vampirism is not a reverse zoonotic disease.

Recycling this from a previous answer; It’s funny you mention vampire animals bc the question was raised, when old age finally started to rear its ugly head for Mojo…

Lestat: What if we could heal him with-

Louis: NO Lestat. No.

Lestat: Just an experiment to-

Louis: We’re not making a vampire dog that’s a crime against nature we have to draw the line somewhere.

Lestat: *pouts*

Louis: *glares*

Lestat: *pouts harder*

Louis: *glares harder*

Lestat: Ok confession time: I already tried to give him a few drops of blood and he was not at all interested. Repulsed really.

Louis: *ragged sigh*

Lestat: It was worth a try!

Louis: Then why were you even asking me?

Lestat: I thought he might prefer yours

Louis: *slaps Lestat hard across the face and storms out*

I remember hearing about (but not reading) Bunnicula, “a children’s book series written by James Howe, featuring a vampire rabbit that sucks the juice out of vegetables,” but I know that’s not quiiiiite what you were looking for, lol.

image

^Lookit the widdle fangs! Bunnicula even has the classic “widow’s peak” hairline in their fur like Dracula *u* and a “cape” in the fur?? I think it’s been adapted to an animated series, too.

Other quotes I found about animal-human disease transmission:

  • “While most feline infectious diseases affect only cats, and most human infectious diseases affect only humans, it is important to be aware that some of these diseases—called zoonotic diseases—can be transmitted between cats and people.” [X]
  • “The general rule is that viruses have a narrow range of suitable living conditions (ie body temperature, metabolism etc) and are not easily passed between species. There are some exceptions to this, but the common cold is not one of them and you will not pass it on to your cats, it cannot live in their higher body temperature.” [X]

Also relevant is zombie animals. In The Walking Dead, there are no zombie animals, and I found a forum where ppl were discussing it (walkingdeadforums.com), whether it’s true that the original comic artist set the canon for that bc he “does not enjoy drawing animals so much,” or whether there might be a scientific reason for it…. Zombie animals are as equally debatable as vampire animals!

Dearest Lestat, I’ve been having a difficult time lately. I’ve recently attempted suicide, I have some family members engaging in some questionable and dangerous behaviors, I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety (among other mental illnesses), everything feels horrible and heavy. Like being suffocated slowly, like being pressed to death. Do you have any advice or any reasons to encourage me to continue to live?

(ooc; Reminder: if you have already taken something or done something to harm yourself please call 911. If you haven’t done anything and if you’re thinking about suicide, please talk to the suicide hotline 1-800-273-TALK (8255) in the U.S., to find a suicide helpline outside the U.S., visit IASP or Suicide.org. ♛Anon!

Your message is heartbreaking. I wish I could come to you and convince you in person that you should live! As powerful as I am, I have my limits, and I can’t track you by IP address, I have hackers working on finding you as I write this.

I wrote a response to you already, twice, deleted both times. From what you have shared, and survived, the burdens you bear, I am so sorry you’ve been dealt such a hand in life. I hear you. We hear you. You’re not alone.

I’m reaching for you, as you reached out to me to share your story, just reach out to me a little further, close the distance between us by taking the step to ask for help. Call the suicide hotline

1-800-273-TALK (8255) in the US, or find it in your area

IASP or Suicide.org. Call the local hospital. Call 911. It’s me on the other end of that line, I’m there, just with a different voice and a different name.

Please do this one small thing, since you already did a big thing by writing to me!

Reasons to live, a very short list, just to begin with:

  • Puppies, kittens, zoos
  • Botanical gardens
  • Museums
  • Art Galleries
  • Films
  • Music
  • Libraries and books
  • Candles
  • Bath soaps
  • Loved ones
  • Art you want to make
  • Poetry and stories you want to write
  • So many other things… (ooc; please add to this list, everyone! Reblog or in the comments)

My childhood nurse used to sing this poem to me, maybe it will help you:

“A rainbow cross the clear blue sky, Do you see it?

In the oven bakes a pie, Do you smell it?

A bluebird cries a happy cry, Do you hear it?

Notice all the goodly things in your life, then you will be happy.”

I’ve been wondering about this for some time, but is the use of the yellow-and-black Under Construction images in the top banner graphic for your blog a deliberate nod to the old Rue Royale Specs Inc. page where Dark Angel and Father of Lies kept their fic pre-Purge, or just a coincidence?

It isn’t a reference to that, just a coincidence! It’s the caution tape at a construction site. I hope it’s ok that I accidentally made that reference, tho… I don’t remember that site, tho the author names are familiar.

^I was thinking of keeping the cat somewhere in the new layout and changing the hat for different holidays tho! ❤

Maybe I should go back to the old header so it’s not so glaring. Part of the reason it’s been like that for SO VERY LONG is that a new layout is under construction on a secret side-blog, and I’m not using that code until I’m happy with it. The overall color scheme & aesthetic is also very different than the current aesthetic and I’m not sure I’m ready to move into the new look :-

Also my webmistress insists on the tags being on the bottom center of posts and I vehemently disagree!! That’s not how I use my tags, I sometimes have a whole extra dialogue in the tags… *Grrrr*…

I’m about 150 pages into ROA and its killing me because the Atlantis plot might have been really interesting, albeit out there, sci-fi novel, and her sections with the vampires aren’t any worse than PL, but together its so…../no/.

*nods* That’s the general impression I’m getting from ppl about it. I still haven’t read it but I WILL.

Those things in the new book: Atlantis, aliens, our vampires, etc. are intriguing separately. There’s no doubt about that.

When I was 11 years old, I loved choc. syrup and baloney sandwiches, and let me tell you… choc. syrup ON a baloney sandwich? My brother and tried it and…../no/. We didn’t like it, but I am sure that there’s someone out there who probably LOVES choc. syrup on baloney sandwiches! I hope they use potato bread, at least, it’s cake-ier than white bread.

yo it’s rem. i love your face and youre a great person and i like all the fangs and whatnot you’ve got going on 10/10 gold star A+

(THIS ONE’S FOR ME awwww!) Thanks bunches, Rem! <3<3<3

I actually got this message 3 days ago, but I was neck-deep (hehehe!) in birthday messages for Lestat, so I felt like this could be answered a little later, when the dust his confetti settled.

… Little did I know that the sh*t would hit the fan so spectacularly here in the US… where am I going with this, you ask? Well, in the face of such stress and anxiety and and and… all the emotions one can have in this situation… it’s so good to know my face (figuratively and literally) is loved, fangs ‘n all, and I’m still needed, and by unrelentingly plowing ahead, encouraging others to make – and making my own – fanworks, it can help us all get through this.

It isn’t just escape into a fantasy world. Fandom is letting the fantasy world supplement us, bolster us, give us hope. Fandom is drawing our friends and loved ones as close as we can, even separated by massive distance, we can at least communicate with and support eachother.

Homework assignment to everyone out there: Reach out and send a lovely message like this to someone today ❤

By the way, totally unrelated: how’s everyone’s immigration policies? Asking for a friend…

This might be a strange question, but does the VC affect your day to day life? For example: you’re reading a book and you think “Louis might like this.” Or you see a child and her appearance reminds you of Claudia? Or perhaps you find yourself quoting something from the books when you’re having a conversation. Do you ever experience those little daily moments when the VC doesn’t seem to be relevant but suddenly you are reminded of it because of the things you experience?

Not a strange question at all! It does affect me, in a positive way 😀

image
  • Kids often make me think about Claudia, both for VC casting ideas and also what it would be like to be an adult trapped in that little body (5 yr olds really are small!). I’ve never seen a *~perfect~* kid to play her, though. I think Kirsten Dunst set the bar very high.
  • Speaking of VC casting – I am always on the lookout for that. There’s a homeless guy I pass by on a regular basis who might be great for Lestat’s dad during the IWTV era. I’d love to share a pic but I feel like it would be rude to take one 😛
  • My headcanon for the VC characters is often in the back of my mind, and something might spark an idea about one or more of them, useful for fanfic ideas… Here in NYC I saw some older ladies, tourists, petting some huge police horses with policemen in the saddles, looking down and making small talk back at the ladies, and I had a very clear vision of Lestat seeing that as a form of fellatio (the men were straddling these massive animals and the women were flirting with them, practically fondling the horse’s necks and faces!) and finding it pretty hilarious, having to explain why he was laughing to Louis… so I wrote it up: 9TH AVE, BETWEEN 57TH & 58TH ST.
  • I’ll often slip in quotes from the books in emails or conversation partly bc they sound good but also it’s sort of a feeler to fish out other VC fans. Sometimes it works, too!

It works on bad days, too, I’ll just remind myself that Lestat doesn’t take this kind of crap from anyone, he just dusts himself off and kicks the asses that needed kicking!
