Devotional candles, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna by Seth Sawyers

and:

After years of domestic isolation, Dylan reasserted himself as a star. Crowds cheered and raised their lighters as one. It was the first time anyone had seen this at a concert and photographer Barry Feinstein captured the moment for the forthcoming live album Before the Flood.

You’ve been in the fandom longer than I have, so can you answer something I’ve always wondered? Did the Lestat fans go nuts when Rock of Ages came out (the movie)? Since its pretty much rock star lestat….

Exhibit A:

^Basically rock star Lestat.

Exhibit B:

More gifs/pics from RoA that I consider Lestatuesque.

As for the fandom reaction, tbh I’ve been a fan ever since the dark ages of speculative fic on geocities websites oh gawd i am old I survived the War on Fanfic from the 90’s... but I didn’t actually find the fandom as it exists now until after this movie came out (2012)!

At the time, I myself was excited along with a few RL friends who were my entire VC fandom at that time. We were pleased as punch.

I’ll speculate that the fandom ppl that loved Cruise’s Lestat (like meeee) were very psyched for RoA. Even now, I consider Cruise’s Jaxx to be an older, mortal, brunet, tattooed Lestat. That’s alot of AU there, but still.

In RoA, his character is similar to Lestat: that whole macho shell with a tender, bruised inside that just wants to be loved for who he really is. At the end of RoA, Jaxx ends up with someone who loves him for HIM, rather than the groupies who love his stage persona or want to bang him for his sexual prowess, or his money, or whatever. Same thing with Lestat. So many people want to fuck him, but very few put in the effort, or gain his trust enough to get to know who he really is inside.

Tom Cruise was the best Lestat. Townsend was a try hard.

In short: YES.

However, Townsend’s fail is not all his fault. He was doing what the director told him to do, he was made up the way the director wanted, and he was working from a terrible script. Unfortunately it was a trainwreck of a movie.

IWTV had Anne Rice on the script, working closely with the director to keep her vision as close to the book as possible.

Also, Tom Cruise did his homework. He read IWTV, TVL, (and presumably QOTD and TOBT bc at one point he was trying to star in and get TOBT made). He’s been at this longer, he’s a more practiced actor, he just *got* Lestat better.

DESPITE all those ppl who still complain that he was too short, bc honestly, to judge an actor by his height, something entirely outside of his control (he did wear boots w/ some vertical assistance) is so narrow-minded and other related complaints so don’t even get me started.

I don’t know what the deal was with QOTD, but they clearly didn’t care for canon. That was the real source of its failure, not just it’s terrible Lestat.

So I love this still for alot of reasons but let’s just point out here:

  • Claudia was clearly waiting in his room for him to return. Just LURKING THERE, tucked right near the bed, and he actually passes her by, doesn’t notice that she’s in the room at all, either because she is so still, or because he is that broken by what happened in their last scene together.
  • The classic blood dripping from the vampire’s mouth, which would ordinarily look kinda cliche, makes it almost look like he’s taken a hit to the face.
  • He’s also got blood near his collar and on his sleeve. This was a messy meal.
  • I think this would have been the scene after he kills the priest, which was in the script and the book, but I doubt it was filmed.
  • This whole shot is so gorgeously composed ;A;

Still ship it.

Even post-Prince Lestat, nothing will convince me otherwise that Daniel and Lestat are the OTP that never was and hasn’t been given the chance it should have and we were so cruelly teased with the possibility of in QOTD.

I dont think were actually going to get new TVC movies

Maybe, maybe not. I didn’t think we’d ever get a new book and here we are even though it was, as predicted, a raging pile of crazy. The biggest fan and pusher of a new VC movie is actually Mater. For realz.

But the movies would be a big pile of butts

piles of butts can be good, too…

Thinking about it now, I get how someone could get that impression. After all, I do only wear black. ;)

“…it was [Claudia’s] pleading that forced me to give up my rusty black for dandy jackets and silk ties and soft gray coats and gloves and black capes. Lestat thought the best color at all times for vampires was black, possibly the only aesthetic principle he steadfastly maintained, but he wasn’t opposed to anything which smacked of style and excess.”

– Louis de Pointe du Lac, Interview with the Vampire

Thinking that “someone who wears all black = goth” was an older sorta view of goth. Now there’s pastel goth, and steampunk goth, and all these crazy variations.

See, when people try to label me, I know what’s really happening, they’re trying to categorize, trying to assign words to something to better understand it… Maybe in the way that when people ask “Where are you from?” And you say, “New Jersey,” or “Portland,” or wherever, they are adding to their knowledge base of “People from New Jersey are ______“ or "People from Portland are ______”.  When in fact you really can’t compare one New Jersian or a Portlandian so simply. If I meet a nice person from Portland, are they ALL nice people there? Pfffft. Nope.

When an older person says, “Wearing all black makes you look goth,” sometimes I feel like that’s a veiled kind of criticism, what they’re really saying is: “Other people who do not know you like I do might think that you are goth and make assumptions about you because you are dressed like one.”

Maybe they’re trying to help, like, if I had smtg on my face I would want someone to say, “Hey, are you okay, there’s alot of blood dripping down your chin there…”

Just proper etiquette!

Awww thanks loyal long-time follower! This blog is powered by VC fandom love ❤

And even better that you agree with me in defense of Antonio! Look, I started out in this fandom on the hate bandwagon against Banderas!Armand, but… nostalgia and a little consideration go a long way *u*

So they actually are working on Tale of the Body Thief: Christopher Rice wrote the screenplay (for freeeee) at AR’s request and they are both in meetings about that with the people who own the rights to it.

image

Yes, that would be a particularly big challenge, to be as loathsome as AR sometimes describes him, while still being a little Botticelli angel, that’s Armand’s whole delicious appeal!

image

Yeah, well, for Armand’s backstory, one would have to make The Vampire Armand, instead. I think that would be a fantastic movie, so much happens in it, it probably would be better as a series, with episodes to break it down. His life with his family. His religious zealotry as a young man. His kidnapping. The whole brothel time period. Marius rescuing him. The Palazzo time period in his life. BIANCA SOLDERINI and her story! Etc.

Basically I’m agreeing with you ;D
