I’m not sure if you’ve talked about Only Lovers Left Alive, but how well do you think Lestat would get along with the characters from that movie. I feel like he’d have a soft spot for Adam (a musician) and Eve (an intellectual), but would maybe have mixed feelings for Ava who is a little reckless.

I looooooved Only Lovers Left Alive! So many similarities to VC, I could write a thesis on it, but those characters were also beautiful in their own story. So many questions about them! I want the backstory on all of them. WHAT HAPPENED IN PARIS 87 YRS AGO?

image

^Bad things happen in Paris in VC, too ;A;

But look at these cuties awwww…  the OLLA vampires’ personalities are totally compatible w/ VC, they seem to be characters first and the vampiring is secondary.

image

The OLLA vampires have different physiological rules from the Ricean vampires, and those rules dictated how they live. For one thing, Adam and Eve have arrangements w/ mortal agents to get clean blood rather than risk taking victims, whose blood could be tainted w/ modern disease or drugs, which OLLA vampires are vulnerable to. So no funtimes hunting evildoers like Lestat :[ They also don’t seem to need to drink as much blood as Ricean vampires do except for Ava bc she’s Claudia.

image

OLLA vampires can also stay awake during the day if they want to but are still highly flammable to sunlight, so they can probably pass as mortal somewhat better than Ricean vampires do. Eve has a sensory gift in which she can “read” the history from touching an object!

You asked about Lestat specifically, but Louis and Adam would totally bond over poetry and literature. Lestat and Eve (and/or Ava!) would go out to dive bars and rock out. Ava’s similarity to Claudia would make her an ideal hunting buddy for Lestat, but her recklessness would definitely irk him when he realizes he can’t reign her in. Ava seems as insatiable as Claudia, and even MORE selfish.

As @hyperbeeb put it so well [X]:

I’ve fully just accepted that [the OLLA vampires are] a part of the VC universe but have managed to stay out of the way of the wacky bullshit that affects the rest of the VC characters (probably due to the powers bestowed on Tilda Swinton from being an alien goddess). But maybe one day they run across Louis and Lestat and become so incredibly grateful that they don’t spend time around these other vampires (even if Lestat and Adam talked about music for like 8 hours and Lestat told Louis for days afterwards that Adam was like him except better… but less pretty don’t be offended Louis)

Hit the jump for moar pics and thoughts…

Some more comparisons bc of reasons:

^Never in the house you naughty girls!

^Little sisters to big bro/sis: “We are going to have S O  M U C H fun”

image

^Adam would appeal to Lestat in his similarity to Nicolas, w/ the tortured musician thing and similarity to Louis with his fascinations with things (and he’s a slim brunet w/ a lot of soul like BOTH of them). Adam seems even less interested than Louis in fashion and material possessions, and his home is as disorganized as I would imagine Louis’ would be (Adam has nests of use, w/ items roughly clustered by category). I would hope that Louis takes better care of his stuff, tho. Adam and Louis both considered suicide a very real option but couldn’t do it themselves; fortunately, their loved ones dragged them back from the edge. Nicolas allegedly did suicide in canon, but there is fanon that he’s still undead, kicking around in secret.

image

Eve was definitely like Lestat in her confidence, curiosity for even the smallest things. Fearless, outgoing, very fashionable. Blood popsicles! She also has some positive Marius qualities to her, in that she had been turned a VERY long time ago, and is largely at peace with the way the world changes around her. Lestat would be intrigued by her tactile gift, too.

image

Ava is very Claudia, aged up, more optimistic, her default mood is generally pretty happy, even though it seems like she’s a pro at being kicked out of groups. Her mood can shift quickly, she’s selfish, flashy, silly, impulsive. She might have been turned anywhere from 16-24 yrs old. She even disregards the #No Killing Friends in the House rule! This is probably how Claudia would have been if she had been turned later in life.

Bonus: Adam + Louis eyerolls

The Vampire Lestat – The Vampire Chronicles

I love your blog!! I check it everyday and it’s always great!!

Merci beaucoup! Every day?? *hugs tightly*

I just said this but it bears repeating: I love the idea of this thing being part of someone’s daily routine BC IT IS CERTAINLY PART OF MINE and someone out there ought to be as attached to it as I am #no regerts. So the feels, they are mutual, and

I’ll try to keep up the quality you’ve come to expect *u*

“Lestat’s name doesn’t mean anything. It is a name that I made up. I search hard and long for names that are unique, and Lestat is, in a way, a mistake. There is an old French name in Louisiana, "Lestan”, and my husband’s name is Stan, and I thought I was using the old French name when I wrote Lestat . It was only later that I realized I had added a “t” for an “n”, and created a name that didn’t exist, so you might call it a Freudian slip. Lestat was definitely like Stan. His self confidence, his blonde hair, his blue eyes, his feline grace — all of that was inspired by my husband, Stan. So maybe it means ‘the Stan’.“

I just want to be happy because the movie project finally seems more tangible that all previous rumors!! we may actually get another movie after 14 years!!
It is also unlikely it will met ALL fans’ expectations, we already have a wonderful adaptation after all, so let’s just hope for the best 💕💕

I wasn’t even thinking about Lestat when I wrote interview with the vampire I was thinking about Louis. Louis was the hero, everything revolved around Louis. Lestat just sprang to life in the corner of my eye. This character took on all this ferocity. I never sat down and thought “Well, this is based on my husband, Stan,” or “This is what Stan would do.” I had an idea of Lestat as the man of action, the man who could do things that I couldn’t do, that man who could make the decision that I never had the nerve to make; and the person who could go through life joyfully in spite of the questions that torment me — the doubts that torment me, the horror of death that torments me. Of course, that was tied up with the idea that he was an 18th century personality; he was from the age of reason, he was much more rational, much more cynical in some ways than Louis. Louis was more a naïve romantic character, much more I think 19th century. All of that was working in my mind. Not that the Romantic period is limited to the 19th century, certainly not; it starts in the 18th. But still, Lestat represented the Enlightenment. He represented a different view on things. He’s also inherently a comic character, in the sense of always triumphing and always coming back and never being really destroyed. He never really absorbs a tragic definition of himself for very long. He always comes back laughing at everything and just rebounding. It may take him a few years, but he always does it. I really wanted to explore a personality different from my own. He became a kind of dream version of what I’d like to be; he was the man I wanted to be; he was the person I wanted to be. I wanted his strength. And once he became a living character I never had to consciously steer him in any direction. It was just a matter of getting into Lestat and then he’d go, and he’d take me where he wanted in the novel. I never had to worry about his dialogue. My knowledge of him was so complete, and so instinctive, that I could just write. The other characters I might have to think about — where they were coming from, what they had to say. But not him. I know exactly what he thinks about everything. If I walk into a theater and see a play, I know whether he likes it or not. If I watch an opera, I know whether he loves that opera. If I go visit a city, I know what he thinks of that city. I’ll never be away from him; he’ll always be apart of me.

(((Just cuz I think it’d be an interesting crossover, what do you think Lestat would think of Christine Daae (Phantom of the opera) if he ever met her?))

Ooooh! That could be very interesting. At the very least we know he loves actresses! He could definitely play the Phantom, but would he be willing to cover his face and get all gruesome underneath for it? Hm…

[^textmeme by @sheepskeleton] well we know what lesson Louis took from POTO, lol.

I am not in the POTO fandom, so I’ll tag some ppl who might answer this better:

@alvadee, @annabellioncourt, @muirin007, @laviniaspeaks, @lavinia-de-mortalium, and any other theatre ppl with an opinion ;]

I so appreciate your blog, it’s become a daily routine for me to check it. My question is: What kind of art would you (and the fandom) like to see? I mean as in which characters, scenarios and art style? Maybe a scene from the books that you like?

Awwww thank u! ❤ I love the idea of this thing being part of someone’s daily routine BC IT IS CERTAINLY PART OF MINE and someone out there ought to be as attached to it as I am #no regerts. So the feels, they are mutual *u*

So the delay in reply was bc I actually have gotten a few asks recently about fave scenes and such, and you asked me AND the fandom, so anyone is welcome to comment/reblog this post (or shoot me an Ask and maybe I’ll compile a few) and offer their own ideas for what they’d like to see in fanart.

Personally… if I were to REALLY dig deep into my soul, I would have to consider each book and pull scenes from it, and I’ve already delayed far too long in answering this, so this is a less serious list. I think what I’m asking for is some canon and/or fanfic scenes.

As for the style, personally, I prefer comic panels, crisp lines, color optional (like Alphons Mucha), but then there are great pieces in more surreal styles… And beautifully rendered works that are almost like classical paintings! So, really, any style or medium, my thirst for fanart is insatiable!

Hit the jump for stuff, cut for length, some misc. spoilers after a few fanart samples.

^[X by @anaryawe which they drew for meeeee!] Scenes in which Claudia, Louis and Lestat are a happy little family before Claudia started actually “growing up” ;u; Fluff! With a touch of angst is fine, too.

image

^[X fanart by ya-ah] mortal!Lestat and Nicolas, their Auvergne and Paris theatre shenanigans, when Lestat went by Lestat de Valois.

image

[X by meeee] Kinky ideas… interpret that as you will… (most of these are SFW, not to worry!)

Other stuff I’d like fanart for:

  • Mortal!Armand in the caves, mortal!Armand living w/ Marius and his pack of lost boys
  • Mortal!Daniel exploring/dissecting stuff w/ Armand (BLENDERS, etc.)
  • Marius getting turned into a vampire bc that was scary.
  • Lestat goes to heaven, not impressed by God
  • Lestat goes to hell, freaks out, but not impressed by the devil, either
  • Merrick’s seduction of Louis in Merrick
  • Mona’s feminist speech in Blood Canticle  “Yeah, females do come in grown-up sizes! And I happen to be one of them, and this is not the Garden of Eden, and I am not taking off this dress!”
  • Lestat turning David in TOBT and David trying to tussle with him afterwards as if THAT was gonna happen.

^That should satisfy you for now 😉 I’ll try to think of more for another Ask.
