Where is that pic you posted for the vampire body hair ask from?

[Anon refers to this post] I don’t remember! I don’t remember where I get some of my stuff. Sometimes ppl randomly send it to me w/o a source, and sometimes it’s stuff that was hosted on a website that’s since been taken down. I’ve been collecting it for 20 yrs and didn’t really think about sourcing back when it was only for my own personal collection.

image

It’s not like I have a password to a super secret online archive and I’m only leaking out little bits to you! Well, I do still have my own personal collection, but I post the things that are worth sharing.

Hopefully we’ll get this kind of stuff for sale or handed to us w/ the new adaptation(s), since that’s a more common thing to do these days!

Most often, I’ll be digging around the interwebs looking for a better quality version of a production still and land on a dead forum, in another language, with a bunch of pics posted, and I’ll go into a user’s account there and find another gallery of their collection… I get lost down the wormhole for a few hours that way, and sometimes find nothing new, sometimes I find smtg I haven’t seen before.

That’s one of the majorly frustrating things about this fandom, a huge difference for us vs. more recent fandoms, is that the more recent fandoms often get a lot of great behind-the-scenes vids, info and pics. The ppl behind movie!IWTV didn’t give us much in terms of behind-the-scenes extras on the VHS, DVD, or BR releases, and we didn’t get a gorgeous illustrated book like the Crimson Peak fandom got 😦

I think the combination of intense secrecy they needed before & during filming (so as not to spoil anyone), plus after the movie came out, the fact that it had so many societal taboos in it…. it pushed the envelope for its time and everyone was quick to make fun of it. Maybe the producers doubted that anyone would want behind-the-scenes materials.

I don’t remember it being as common for all movies at that time, anyway, to share behind-the-scenes stuff. Getting a big behind-the-scenes treatment was more for movies like Titanic or Star Wars.

redversaillesrose:

I was rewatching QotD the other day because I hate myself and like, check this out.

Like, these are two of the vampires in the vampire bar. But, like, ignore the shitty quality and look at them.

Like, a red-haired teen with a guy in his mid-20s with long black hair. Both rather pretty.

And we all know that a lot of fans acted like extras in the “movie”. Isn’t it cool how two of them just went as Louis and Armand?

ACCEPTED. That’s Louis and Armand.

I hate when people ask me why I am always in such a melancholy mood. It’s part of who I am, and my past has shaped me to be this way. It’s seems that no matter how elated I get, I may never have my sunlight. May my deepest wishes never be granted?

♠ Dear Anon,

I deeply relate to your concerns and find it as irritating as you do when my attitude is questioned in this manner. I’ve often asked it of myself, whether this melancholy “mood” is simply an element of who I am, who I always was, and not only the result of what I’ve experienced.

image

I see others thriving in the sunlight, metaphorically, and I have yearned, at times, to strip away my burden and join them. I have only ever done that when in a state of mortal drunkenness, and even then, I never fully took leave of my senses.

But this pervasive feeling is not truly a burden, it has its benefits. Are we more introspective than others? Possibly. More sensitive to the pulse of life in a different way than they are. Not all flowers require sunlight, some can only bloom at night.

When curled up at home with

a good novel in my hands, only the song of the cicadas outside, and ambient lighting, that’s peace for me. I’m sure that you have similar moments. Your deepest wishes of happiness can be achieved in the simplicity of allowing yourself to enjoy the things you enjoy, and forgiving yourself for the way you are. Treat yourself as you would a very dear friend, not an enemy.

I was scrolling through your posts when I saw a production still of Louis wearing that coat he wears when he and Claudia arrive in Paris and he’s in a cemetery, maybe a cemetery in Paris? Is there any explanation for this production still? I’ve never seen it before.

That is a fabulous coat.

image

[X] Possibly a teensy ref to Lestat’s fur-lined cloak in TVL? Not fluffy enough to be wolf, but hopefully fake fur for the movie.

This is the image you referred to (it appears that he’s wearing the same coat with jacket underneath as in the screencap above):

image

I don’t know of any cemeteries that have multiple levels like that, what is that, stadium seating?, definitely not in NOLA (at least one of the cemeteries in NOLA is that crowded tho). There is a scene in one version of the script (thanks @thesaramonster!) that mentions a graveyard in Transylvania of course, when Claudia and Louis are on their own, searching for other vampires:

MONTAGE OF SKETCHES

A TRANSLYVANIAN VILLAGE, A GRAVEYARD.

RUINED CASTLE AFTER CASTLE, LOOKING INTO THE SKIES…

LOUIS
The quest for these Old World
vampires filled me with bitterness.

We searched village after village,
ruin after ruin and I was glad when
always we found nothing. For what
could the damned really have to say
to the damned?

^So I don’t think Neil Jordan tried to include the scene in the book where they find and kill a zombpire, but that production still might have been sort of a reference to it.

But it’s especially sad that Louis still has that coat after Claudia’s been killed ;A;

Can you imagine how painful it would have been, returning to the hotel room he shared with Claudia, all her clothes and accessories exactly as they were when she left it last? ;A;

replied to your post “About the poised/boner (the same anon btw) book referances Priapos…”

my hc was always that they couldn’t get it up; that the “at the gate” bit meant that it was waiting to rise to the ocassion, but they lacked the ability either physically, or else they were no longer sexually aroused bc blood was a far greater pleasure to them.

That’s my hc, too, at least for Ricean vampires. As much as they might have disliked eachother IRL, Tom and Brad definitely conveyed the ecstasy of blood sharing, a form of intimacy similar to (or as AR has put it, better than) sex.

IWTV is on Syfy right now, and I’m 100% sure that they lowered the red levels and partially desaturated it to fit the dark and gritty Syfy Aesthetic.

i know they did, I have seen this movie 7737468394 times and I know it visuals by heart, what kind of butchery is this?????

THIS IS THE HOTEL SCENE. ITS SUPPOSED TO BE REDS AND GOLDS AND CANDLELIGHT??? THEY ALL LOOK LIKE THEY’RE LITERALLY CORPSES.

WTF SYFY? We need Fictional Character Protective Services.

@artisticfreedomofexpression:

Found this on my Instagram and immediately thought of you. I hope you’re well, and having a lovely day! 💖

I LOVE THIS!! Great find, @artisticfreedomofexpression. Definitely brightened my day *hugs tightly*

you make all your own graphics and things right? Can you recommend tools/art programs etc that you use? I know photoshop is good but i can’t afford that :/

Graphics that are watermarked w/ my url are mines, I also use other ppl’s graphics/gifs and include the sources*.

image

I use a legal version of adobe photoshop to manipulate images and compress gifs, and a legal version of premiere to make video edits and pull footage for gifs.

I don’t know of free programs to recc, ppl can feel free to reblog/comment w/ suggestions on that. I’m wary of freeware bc viruses ;A;

Sorry I can’t be of any direct help on that 😛

I didn’t watermark the images above bc they’re both screencaps, even though I did some manipulation to Claudia’s drawing to flip it and take her hand out. I decide whether to watermark based on how much I’m adding to it and/or how potentially offensive it is, so when it’s not edited very much or it’s pushing the envelope of offense, I don’t watermark it.

*If all I’m doing is taking a gif someone else made from the movie and brightening it I usually don’t watermark or source it. The reason I don’t source those is that I am adding something to them, but since it’s just frames from the movie, it doesn’t really belong to either of us.

What’s your opinion about the VC lack of PoC characters?

One can criticize a work, create AU fanworks of it, or create an entirely original work. I would encourage everyone to write the story they want to read. Be the change you want to see in the world!

image

(^Unfortunately, many PoC in VC have unhappy endings. Keep in mind that she’s an evildoer in the book, which wasn’t explicitly stated in the movie. She murdered her clients.)

I’m a straight white lady, but I can understand how frustrating it must be to see one of your favorite authors release novel after novel in one of your favorite series and feel left out of the story bc your race/gender/etc. is not represented (or it’s fetishized, or represented negatively). I can understand how it might feel like the author is saying that you don’t exist (or matter enough) to them to place someone like you on their stage. It may be that they would love to write about a character like you but don’t have the knowledge/confidence/etc. to do the character the justice they need.

However, in my opinion, an author is not a vending machine. No matter how successful they are, an author is not required to cater to their readership. Sometimes they make an effort to do so, as in the case with J.K. Rowling supporting her readers in their headcanon of Hermione Granger as a PoC. (Another concise article on that here: X).

AR has always advised us to write the story we would want to read. Publishing houses turned her work down for years until she found one that chose her story for what it was. Knopf felt her story would sell really well so they took the gamble on it. A publishing house doesn’t want to invest huge sums of money in something unless they think the odds are very good that they’ll make a worthwhile profit. I would ask that the criticism be leveled more towards publishers than the authors of stories which lack representation.

In this day and age it is easier than ever before to self-publish and get your story out there. Anna Todd did that with her One Direction fan fiction, “After”, and here’s a quote from AR (w/ my underlines) about it bc I feel it’s relevant here: [X

image

In the same post, AR writes: “And in this great world in which we live, no writer is really in direct competition with any other writer. There’s room for us all. We can each try our personal best to write the books of our dreams and to become the writers of our dreams. And I’m really glad Fifty Shades came along. I am happy for E.L. James. And I’m happy for all the people who like “Fifty Shades.“ ”

“…The amazing thing about the writing world is that there has always been a lot of room in it, and a lot of heartbreak. We’re never directly in competition with some one who makes it big; there are so many avenues, so many spots on the bestseller lists of the world…… We’re really in competition with ourselves, driven to outdo ourselves. That’s how I see it anyway.”

So, write the story you want to see in the world! If it’s compelling, others will want to read it, too.

List of more VC PoC under the cut.

(Not including PL characters bc there are so many! And some ppl do not recognize PL as canon. Go to wiki for those.)

David Talbot – he becomes Anglo-Indian

Davis – from the Fang Gang, not explicitly stated other than “black,” so African American, possibly.

Merrick Mayfair – mixed race

Tarquin Blackwood (I think he is, can’t remember specifically), and other supporting characters in Blackwood Farm.

Akasha – from Egypt

Enkil – from Egypt

Khayman – from Egypt

Avicus – from Egypt

Azim –

Himalayan? Maybe? He has bronze skin. That’s where his temple is.

Benji – Arab, Bedouin

Eudoxia – Can’t remember specifically, but I think she is a VoC. She is described as having white skin, but that may be due to her age (centuries old already when Marius meets her).
