Nah you’re not slim or pretty enough to be a vampire

floozys-deactivated20180908:

ok but like are you trying to tell me that there has never been a fat vampire? a fat person has never been bitten nor has a vampire ever drank enough blood to put on some weight? really?

First of all why would you say that to a stranger on the internet? I feel sorry for Anon, that they felt the need to put someone down this heartlessly. What a gross oversimplification.

How dare you tell someone they’re not pretty or slim enough for anything. Who made you the Decider of Prettiness and Slimness? I didn’t vote for you.

image

While it’s true that fandoms/media tend not to glamorize fat and/or ugly fictional vampires, they do exist.

@askavampirologist might have more to say on this, but here’s a whole pile of fat and/or ugly vampires some of which I found on a QUICK SEARCH OF TEH GOOGLE which Anon could also have done but was apparently too lazy or cynical to bother with doing.

1. Magnus, Lestat’s maker, is described as being ugly. He’s missing all his teeth except for his fangs. Were they lost/removed before he became a vampire or after? We don’t know. Usually, having all one’s teeth is a necessary element in being considered “attractive,” among other things. [Fanart by J. Oliver, Magnus on the right]

image

2. Meet Pearl from Blade, a FAT AND UGLY VAMPIRE. Someone made him (I don’t remember if Pearl was m/f) a vampire, was it before he was obese or after? Was it before he got ugly or after? Someone had a reason to do it and it might not have been based on beauty or slimness AT ALL.

image

3. Here’s Deacon from What We Do in the Shadows, and while I wouldn’t call him FAT, I wouldn’t call him SLIM either. Nor is he attractive to everyone even tho he thinks he is.

image

4. Here’s a Cassandra Clare quote on the subject: “Maybe they didn’t make vampires out of ugly people. Or maybe ugly people just didn’t want to live forever.”

^While I don’t necessarily agree with her, there could be some truth in that. Not everyone would want to have to kill to live forever, maybe it so happens that “fat” and/or “ugly” people are more compassionate in that regard and wouldn’t be able to do it. Or there have been

“fat” and/or “ugly” vampires who have chosen to die rather than continue vampiring for whatever reasons.

You want some more? Hit the jump.

5. Alan Moore made a “morbidly obese vampire bride” … “a fat monster that spends her day wallowing in the filth of an abandoned movie theater.“  It was part of a Swamp Thing series, I think. [full page here]

image

6. Lady Luljetta “is a female vampire who resides in the country of Lelitania, where is originally from no one really knows.” [X] There seems to be fanart of her out there! [fanart by @fatline, who will draw any and all fat related draw requests]

image

7. This is a very real book, I haven’t read it but apparently it’s part of a FAT WHITE VAMPIRE series!

8. Here’s another fat vampire series:

9. Here’s a coupla fat vampires in a cartoon:

If you had to wear glasses, lestat, what would they look like? Pictures?

♛Actually, I do wear glasses from time to time, gives me an intellectual air. It also gives me something to fuss with during tense moments in therapy with Louis so that I don’t wring his pretty little neck. Which, justified or not, still tends to weaken my position.

I assume your question means aside from sunglasses, of course. Which you know about already, my preference for violet-tinted. I highly recommend it. Everything I look at is washed over with a dreamy lens. Je vois la vie en rose, so to speak. Improves one’s mood immensely.

The only glasses that look terrible on my face shape are the iconic circular ones popularized by John Lennon.

Ah well, can’t have it all. *sighs*

I also don’t like this modern frame-less look, at least for men. It lacks the warmth of the human touch of frame design and craftsmanship.

I favor glasses that flatter my bone structure, generally wide but not too rectangular, to enhance my cheekbones. Large lenses are necessary to balance the strong jawline and my voluminous hair, but I like a casual material for the frames like tortoise-shell or black plastic.

When the fabric you’re wearing is Serious (like velvet or leather), accessories should be more relaxed.

Fairly certain these are tortoise-shell Ray-Bans, the icing on the slice of cake that is this male model:

image

This Aaron Tveit has good taste (and looks like he tastes good, too…)

image

Here’s Josh Hutcherson, who I’m enjoying more and more the more I see of him:

image

Justin Timberlake, the reigning “Prince of Pop,” oui? We could make such beautiful music together… Would love to raid his closet. With him present. As he tries to defend it. Mmmmmm…

image

I have another suggestion for a possible VC casting, which would be Rami Malek as Enkil. I think he has the right face for it, and he already played the role of an Egyptian ruler in Night At The Museum. (And he was a vampire in the movie Breaking Dawn, but let’s forget those catastrophic Twilight movies.)

One of my fave topics is VC casting 😀 and Enkil doesn’t get enough love. So naturally I wrote an unnecessarily long-ass answer.

image

(^Rami Malek from NatM bc I couldn’t look at pics of him from Twilight, that vampire makeup was just too weird for me and that’s saying a lot bc I love the gross vampire makeup from 30 Days of Night.)

Rami is ethnically perfect and very cute and Enkil was supposedly pretty young when he started his rule:“But he was young and strong and determined to rule his land.” Maharet talking about Enkil, QOTD

And he looks like someone a giant bitch in a tiny package Strong Woman like Akasha could push around without much resistance. I vaguely remember liking Rami in NatM, all those characters were somewhat cartoonish and I always enjoy that. I’ve only seen bits of the Twilight movies but not enough to poison myself, and not enough to remember him from them 😛

But if you really want MY opinion, he’s not my first choice for Enkil.

We first really meet Enkil in TVL when Lestat meets him for a cordial discussion Enkil nearly crushes Lestat’s skull in defense of his Queenie. Even before that moment, Lestat is freaking the hell out over TWMBK. Not many characters are capable of scaring the (figurative) shit out of Lestat, and Enkil is one of them. So he needs to be able to look intimidating before he can speak or even move. Granted, some of Lestat’s flipping-out was more about the fact that they might be paralyzed inside their bodies (if you haven’t seen @remarried’s fanart of that moment you really must), but still. The near skull-crushing certainly gave him someone to be scared of in Enkil. Normally I defend all actor’s abilities over their physical characteristics, but in this case, he starts out as a statue, and needs to look intimidating without the help of fancy moves and lines.

So I imagine him looking more masculine, a hint of grimness (he orders some pretty cruel stuff if you remember!) and some mystery in his face, and I happened to see Ranveer Singh on my dash just today… and yes. Yes yes. Yisss.

image

Difficulty: Finding pics of Ranveer NOT smiling. I don’t know his acting, whether he does Serious at all, but physically, Ranveer matches my headcanon better than Rami. Rami might be a good Khayman, though.

I’m also not of the Social Justice Warrior contingency that demands ethnic conformance of the actor to the character. I am not politically correct *shrugs*

And Enkil does love Akasha, and I would want some snuggles like this:

image

Which of the major VC character would you say are the most intelligent? I mean, for all the love I have for him, I’d place Lestat on the smart side of average at best. What do you think? What of the others? Your opinion is of paramount importance to me lol

Well my opinion should be of paramount importance to you bc I am in fact highly intelligent. Like off-the-scale. SO SMART.

image

There are different kinds of intelligence, tho. I couldn’t assign IQ numbers, bc those might fluctuate over time, and are not the only/best way to define the nebulous concept that is “intelligence.” So I can’t say which are the most intelligent, but I can describe their types of intelligence. I’ll do my faves first and the rest under a cut like noone is gonna read all this ffs!

Lestat- His experience as a hunter in life and as a vampire made him flexible, resourceful, and inventive/impulsive. His theatre experience gave him improvisational skills, which are useful in negotiation, courtship, and life-of-the-partyness. So I don’t think I can agree with you that that places him “on the smart side of average,” since I’m not considering his intelligence as a notch on a numerical scale. But I’m glad you still love him, even if you rate his intelligence that way! That’s totes fine.

Louis- His love of books is a love of learning and storytelling, a seeking of deeper meanings, an enjoyment of the imagination, so I would say his intelligence lies in his introspective nature. This helps with diplomacy, trying to talk sense into Lestat and others. He’s empathetic, can read people’s poker faces, and hence is an excellent risk-taker in gambling.

Claudia- A planner, she is the best at the old “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” She can plan moves ahead of time, even better than Louis can. She is emotionally manipulative, able to instigate fights between her parents with very little effort on her part.

Hit the jump for more.

David- As the Head of the Talamasca (I forget his exact title okay this is good enough), he must have risen through the ranks for a reason. His unflappability under pressure, his own Mind Gifts even before his turning, and the wisdom and sense of peace that life experience brings, these are all good reasons. He’s one of the only creatures Lestat really listens to, one of the only ones Lestat actually will modify his behavior around, with just a subtle directive. David has brought many talented people into the Order, and trained them for fieldwork. He’s generous to a fault.

Armand- Part of why he disliked Claudia could be subconscious, in that he might have seen some of himself in her (and therefore found another reason for competition with her). He has all her skills and more, with his powerful Mind Gift, he can weave fantastic illusions in the minds of others. But it takes alot of energy to do so. He devours knowledge, seeking the keys to satisfaction, chasing a state of peace that he can never seem to maintain for very long by himself.

Daniel- Like Louis, he is a lover of the written word, making him empathetic to others. As an interviewer, he knew how to “ask the right questions” to get his subjects to open up and reveal more than they might have intended. He also has a great level of patience, which is an enormous virtue in arguments; he can generally keep his cool much longer than his opponent, able to focus on the debate and not resort to cheap personal attacks.

Marius- Obviously a skilled artist, and appreciator of art in humankind and in nature, it has led him to attain a state of peace for the most part. Art as a form of self-expression, he can relieve stress and anxiety by painting another mural or perusing a gallery. This peacefulness makes him a trustworthy mentor to many. In later canon this has faltered somewhat, we can see that he’s shaken by things, he is vulnerable, but like a cat, seems to always land on his feet!

Jesse- A lover of studying and a bold explorer, she had long ago cast aside societal ideals of settling down and making babies. She had a thirst for knowledge and adventure and she pursued both. She had balls in a time when women were congratulated for having them ;]

Gabrielle- Also a bold adventurer, someone with a strong sense of ethics, and decisive, able to hear an argument and cut through all the bullshit right to the heart of the matter.

Nicolas- Mad? Maybe. But also fiercely devoted to the violin. Having that much commitment to the study of an instrument demonstrates a passionate soul. The fact that he was actually talented at it and could “bring the house down” meant that the tireless practicing paid off. He had found the thing that made him happy (as happy as he was capable of being) and found the person he was most happy with (Lestat) and that’s an enormous accomplishment, both are things that some people never achieve in life.

Akasha- Mad? YES. And yet, one could also say she was a hardcore SJW feminist, blind to anything other than the information that would support her own ideas and agenda. At least she did her homework.

Maharet and Mekare- Were the most powerful witches of their time; they had to memorize spells, incantations, they had to learn diplomacy with spirits. Think of the volumes of material they must have had to keep in mind! After turning, Maharet kept records of their family tree, an enormous task, but it was well worth it in the interest of feeling like she still belonged to something larger than herself, which brought her peace. She helped her family when possible, financially or otherwise. Great empathy there.

GTA Vice City : San Francisco Edition – A slight recut of the final scene

YOU MAKE A GOOD POINT, HOW THE HELL DOES LESTAT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE??? DID HE HAVE TO GO TO DRIVERS’ ED? DID HE MAKE LOUIS TEACH HIM? HOW DID LOUIS LEARN? CAN ANY OF THEM DRIVE? DAVID, GABRIELLE AND LESTAT ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT DO IN THE BOOK, OH MY GOSH I NEED TO KNOW.

Well somewhere in the series – I think TVL? – Lestat says that vampiring makes learning things much faster, he learned to read and write just by watching the transcriber do it for him long enough. Same with technology and modern inventions.

In movie!IWTV, he was watching Daniel from the backseat for at least a mile or two before they got on the bridge.

That makes more sense, but its a lot less entertaining than thinking about them wrecking their way through the cities trying to drive.

Yep, I made this
gif set thinking “oh, it would be fun if Lestat drove and reacted like a GTA’s
player”. I’m very surprised, and most of all delighted, that it’s
generating so many constructive
reactions. You’re amazing, people of the vc fandom, and it’s always a pleasure to read you!

Remember how I said that Lestat and Claudia’s final conversation was my 2nd favorite scene from the movie. Well everyone, this is it. My favorite scene from the Interview with the Vampire movie and there are so many reasons why. Some of them are mentioned above like: how the hell does Lestat even know how to drive??? but what really gets me is that Lestat was like camping out in this guys car the whole damn movie. He was just sitting there as Louis dictated his life to Daniel and restrained himself from jumping into the room and saying ‘EXCUSE ME THAT IS NOT HOW IT HAPPENED LOUIS.’ and then proceeding to tell the nice man the REAL story. Seriously what is going through Lestat’s head this entire scene? I don’t know but I need someone to write something on it. Frankly this is one of the most ridiculous and funny scenes in the movie but for all its OOC-ness I can’t say with a clear conscious that it wasn’t immensely amusing to watch.

^Yes, #fanfic request or #fanart request. I bolded what we need. Someone plz feel free to #DO THE THING.

I am confused… so people who follow Anne on facebook do so slavishly? Maybe we just follow her because we like certain things that she posts? I don’t mean to sound whiny, but lumping all her fb followers together hurts. If that’s not what you meant and you were only referring to the people who /do/ follow her obsessively, then I apologize. I just can’t tell from your words in that post, so here I am.

TL;DR

I struggled with this answer, because, while it would be diplomatic to simply apologize, I won’t apologize that it was hurtful, because, as you’ll learn in this post, that group of “more obsessive” people have been and are much crueler to their victims than I was with that one word about them.

~Here is a picture of Our Lady of VC for the more obsessive fans to frame and worship~

image

Side note, before we go any further: Anon, why do you care who I lump anyone in with? I could say everyone who follows X is “a gullible baby,” and everyone who follows Y is “a perfect cinnamon roll, too good for this world,” but that doesn’t make either true. Obviously, if you don’t think you follow AR “slavishly,” then you don’t! Take a breath, this is tumblrland, this blog is for VC fandom love and fanworks (and fandom etiquette and education sometimes), it’s meant to be an outlet, an escape from reality, so don’t take things personally.

This is actually a great opportunity to educate you, Anon, and anyone else who might not be aware of the history between Anne Rice, her “People of the Page” (her phrase, not mine. ”POTP”) followers, her fandom outside of POTP, and outside people who have had opinions on her works. I could write a dissertation on this topic but it’s not worth the effort; this post will be TL;DR for most people. I’m doing this so I can tag it and use it again the next time this topic comes up.

The short answer is: In the beginning, all of AR’s FB followers were POTP. No distinction needed to be made, because they were ALL highly obsessive to the point that they were her online army she could rally to attack people/reviewers who dared to have an opinion on her works. There have been many instances in which something critical to AR came along – or something that she INTERPRETED as critical – and AR makes a statement on her FB page about it, which is a thinly veiled order rallying her troops to inundate that source with their “discussion” on that review. Sometimes her POTP simply made so many personal attacks in the comments on the offending critical post that the victim is forced to withdraw/delete their review. This whole cycle has happened too many times. In fact, AR has recognized this pattern and actually said that she will no longer link to negative reviews of her works (½/14):

“Guys, I am always open to publishing negative reviews of my work for consideration, to balance the many positive reviews to which I link. But the negative reviewer must bring the review here and request it. When I’ve linked to negative reviews for discussion, some of the reviewers in question have felt that they were unfairly targeted; and they have objected to some of the comments made on their reviews. It just doesn’t work. So I no longer volunteer any negative review, no matter how well written, for discussion. Again, reviewers are welcome to bring their reviews to the page, and post links and offer them for discussion. Same with blog posts. I might not repost every single one; but I’m happy to see them posted on the page and to read them and consider them for reposting.”

“… if I link to them for discussion, some of these people get very upset. They accuse me of “demonizing” them. They call the People of the Page “hell hounds” for their comments. And admittedly, some people do make very unpleasant comments…”

She has 1.1 million followers as of this posting, and I, myself, am one of them. So, of all 1.1 million, at least one of her followers is not an obsessive “hell hound,” as described above.

I actually think she has moved past much of the drama, and now her POTP (both our kind, Anon, and the “more obsessive” kind) are more focused on news items, poetry, VC adaptations & casting ideas, headcanons/canon requests for AR, and other good things she likes discussion on. I enjoyed her #Fan Questions for Lestat, and the 15 yr old inside me still gets excited when she posts something about “Where are they now?” like Lestat doodling on a napkin, or the whole coven all flopped together on a couch watching Hell on Wheels, that’s good stuff *u*

Hit the jump for links to examples of POTP vs. reviewers clashing, etc.

1. War on Fanfic

So this is before the POTP’s time, but it’s worth noting that Anne Rice waged a War on Fanfic in the 1990′s. She had every right to do so, but it destroyed the fandom. She sicc’d her pack of lawyers on all VC fanfic authors, and forced speculative fiction (old-timey-wimey word for “fanfic”) sites to shut down. The fandom was driven underground; fanfic could only be shared very privately, possibly through email exchanges or carrier pigeons.

This experience taught AR a valuable lesson: Anything that she didn’t approve of could be shut down by forces she could marshal. Lawyers cost money, and take on only legitimate legal cases, and legal battles can get messy (she’s had other legal issues but I won’t go there, you can use your newfangled googley-woogly machine for that).

2. The Pandora story

Here’s where the POTP became AR’s army, and they didn’t cost a penny, and there were no legal ramifications in sending them forth on her behalf.

“Kayleigh Herbertson found Pandora to be a poorly written novel where the vampires didn’t act like vampires… after Herbertson was done writing the review she took the book, which was already falling apart, and turned it into decoupage.”

“[AR] chose to respond by posting a link on her Facebook page (where her 740 thousand Facebook followers could find it) and appended the invitation: “Comments most welcome.”.“

Her POTP left an enormous amount of harassing comments on that page, and eventually, it was taken down. Here are my two favorite POTP comments from that article:

  • HOW DARE YOU EVEN COMPARE SHITTY ASS STEPHANIE MEYER TO THE QUALITY WORK THAT IS ANNE RICE HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU FUCKING HAG, I HOPE YOU GET HERPES
  • You bitch! 😡

Here’s a link to another article on this situation, with more context.

3. Mess of Links

Here, have at it. I can’t read through these all, but you can!

Hope this helped! I think we’re all coexisting pretty well these days, her People Of The Page and her – what I like to call ourselves – People Off the Page. Let’s just all take a chill pill and enjoy this series together, and if not, let’s just do it in our own way. Live and let live.

marius-de-romanus:

ooc: btw this is p random but i felt the need to voice my opinion so if you’re not interested feel free to ignore it!!

See, I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about Marius’ personality, not only here, but among good part of VC fans who I’ve came across in the past regarding his book Blood and Gold. I would like to point some things that I find important and that maybe would help you to have a second thought about it.

I reblogged from the source and cut it for length, but give this a read, this is very well-said, and applicable to many of the problematic characters in the VC.

They were human once, they’re not perfect creatures. I think if there was one message AR really wanted us to take away from the entirety of canon, it would probably be: These characters are like us, imperfect, searching for answers, longing to belong, to love, and be loved in return.

Some choices made in pursuit of those things are impulsive, some are well-planned, some had terrible results in retrospect, but hindsight is 20/20. We can only learn from the past and try to make better choices, moving forward… ask for forgiveness for our trespasses and strive to forgive those who trespassed against us ❤

marius-de-romanus:

When I read Blood and Gold for the first time, I felt a slight emptiness, and that familiar feeling of disappointment in the pit of my stomach after knowing closely some of his choices and attitudes – and more than that; his true persona, after all. But after a while thinking about it, I realized that no matter how wrong he was by some of his choices, each one of them made who he truly is: selfish, yes, but compassionate, an artist, melancholic, and undoubtedly proud, but good and gentle at heart.

He is far from being perfect even though we enjoyed to believe that he was due to numerous descriptions we had of him in TVA, TVL, QOTD and Pandora. But he isn’t. He commits mistakes as everyone else, and if we were to compare him to Louis, Lestat and Armand, for example, judging by all the years that Marius is alive, I honestly don’t think his mistakes were so numerous. Some of them were intense, and most of them regrettable, yes, but I do not think that makes him a “bad character” or that he is any less of what Lestat, Pandora, Armand, etc, describe in their respective books.

Only because he was described by many as a “sage”, a “philosopher”, etc, it doesn’t change the fact that before he was turned, he was also a human. And Marius, in my opinion, is one of the most “human” vampires among the coven. His mistakes were in it’s majority also ridiculously human, being driven by the impulse of his emotions.

So I think that instead of focusing only on the bad things, you also should remember how wonderful his good side is. How loving, caring, compassionate, intelligent and cultured Marius is.

Marius was not the only one to commit mistakes. And it is good that he did because it’s a nice reminder that not even “immortal beings” are perfect, no matter how godlike they appear to be.

Therefore, my point is: instead of simply judging and saying that he is a shitty character because he was not what you thought he was, give it a second thought. No one is made only by their good sides, nor by their mistakes alone.

To like him or dislike him is personal, though. Yet, to say that his character sucks only because you don’t like it…. it’s hella stupid and makes me hella pissed.

Was the notion that dead blood is bad ever dispelled? I was rewatching IWTV [for what feels like the billionth time] and Louis drinks rat’s blood from a wine glass. Isn’t that blood technically dead? Does it not count as dead because it was drained from a beating heart? I’m just not sure if this was ever settled, or if this is me just over analyzing things.

Hey, not overanalyzing! I love #vampire physiology, and this is a big topic in that. Fortunately, it’s an easy answer.

No, dead blood is not bad (as in lethally poisonous) to Ricean vampires. It just tastes like nasty old coffee *spits*

image

{{Oh Louis, bb, we know, it gets cold so quickly…}}

You’re right that movie!IWTV was not explicit on this, I will explain u a thing based on the movie & canon ;}

The rat blood: is just as drinkable as the whore lady’s blood in the crystal glass later on in the story (the rat is dead, but the lady is still alive, when their blood has been poured into glassware, and in neither scene are the vampires poisoned that way). Blood extracted from a body is not bad in itself, but it cools with the exposure to air, and cold blood tastes bad as I will explain under the cut. When a vampire feeds from the victim directly, there’s no air contact with the blood, and it stays – preferably – hot. More than that, there’s also the entire multi-sensual experience of the act of killing which is way more fun than just the consumption of the nutritional value of the blood.

Lethal/poisonous blood is not about the blood itself, but is about the moment of death of the victim: What Lestat warns Claudia about in Vampiring: 101 (and he warns Louis in the book, too) is that she must stop drinking before the victim’s heart stops, at least in the beginning, or else the victim could take her down with them in death. That’s more about the soul separating from its body at the moment of death. Older/stronger vampires can keep drinking and slurp the impact of the death down, too.

Hit the jump for canon stuff, spoilers in there…

In TVL: Lestat goes to Armand in Paris for help after Claudia and Louis try to assassinate him a second time, and Armand throws him in a locked cell with a dead mortal for dinner:

“Sometime in the dark, I discovered a mortal victim there. But the victim was dead. Cold blood, nauseating blood. The worst kind of feeding, lying on that clammy corpse, sucking up what was left.”

^So clearly dead blood is not bad in the sense of being poisonous, just icky 😛

AR answered the dead blood question at a booksigning ages ago, that dead blood is like “old coffee that’s sat out for awhile. Just distasteful.”

Lestat does say in the movie (and this is probably where the confusion about the supposed lethalness of dead blood comes from, too), “You let me drink *dead* blood?” and it might seem like he means that the deadness of it was the lethally poisonous aspect of it, when in actuality he knows he’s been drugged, it was the absinthe & laudanum combo that drugged him. Still, those drugs are not poisonous to a vampire; he asks to be put in his coffin like a mortal might want to be put to bed, to sleep it off.

Claudia did it to bring his defenses down so she had a chance at killing him. He couldn’t fend her off in that drugged state.

Who knows why director Neil Jordan didn’t clarify this, and why he had the line

“You let me drink *dead* blood?” My guess is that he wanted to underscore Claudia’s betrayal, she had made a “peace offering” that was actually a Trojan horse, designed to enter Lestat’s system and weaken him from within.

Which is really upsetting, especially from a daughter to a father. That moment when she convinces him she wants peace, he looks at her with the most tragic expression, as Amy Nicholson wrote in her book Tom Cruise: Anatomy of an Actor

“When Claudia starts her assassination plot by bringing him a human gift, Cruise’s eyes show Lestat’s surprise that someone has finally done something nice for him for the first time in the film… In that moment, we realize that while Lestat is capable of love, he’s never been loved back.”

Hey, what kind of music does everybody listen to? I think we all know Lestat’s music taste but what about Armand, David, Louis and Marius. I imagine Louis listens to Nirvana or Hozier or classical music.

I could write a thesis on this. DON’T WORRY I WON’T DO THAT.

(BTW, if you’re just looking for music reccs, I have a VC fanmix, fanmix, and music tag for that)

First of all, you have to consider when are they listening to music? It can be solitary or social…

Armand ~

  • Enjoys gathering a small audience and hiring live musicians to play complicated classical pieces. Or asking that vampires who can play things come and entertain them. He still loves Sybelle at the piano, even better that her repertoire has expanded beyond the Appassionata. Antoine has played lively duets with her.
  • Otherwise, Armand throws on huge wireless headsets while perusing art galleries. He’ll listen to anything others recommend to him, he shares a Spotify account so that anyone can try out his playlist, which has a broad spectrum of musical styles.
  • Armand is drawn to works that are used in ice skating competitions, oddly. It is a recent obsession.

David ~

  • Musicals, anything upbeat. Has a love for Spanish culture, Flamenco, like the Gypsy Kings. Without much urging, Lestat will put on makeup and dress up in a Flamenco gown and dance with David in public!
  • David’s rainy-day guilty pleasure are artists like Michael Bolton, for when he’s home alone, feeling left out of the coven activities.
  • He also loves Sting; the song that hooked him was Desert Rose, which Marius sent him on a mix-CD because of the Arabic singer, Cheb Mami.

Louis ~

  • It takes a long time for Louis to warm up to new bands, and he likes a few pieces by Hozier which Lestat added to Louis’ outdated iPod. It’s an older gen model but it still works fine, so Louis doesn’t see a need to replace it.
  • He prefers pieces without lyrics, ambient works that he can melt into while reading.
  • The Blade Runner movie that Armand got him to watch the first time made Louis a Vangelis fan and a fan of film soundtracks. He often plays the Gone Girl soundtrack.

Marius ~

  • Daniel and Lestat have introduced him to alot of modern music. Marius will listen while he paints. Marius is the biggest Hozier fan of the four discussed.
  • Whatever will inspire during painting, but he will also go to live performances of just about anything to be sociable ❤

Desperate Times: An Appeal To Tumblr (Signal Boost?)

kissingandsnugglingdeadthings:

Hi Tumblr. I hate to do this, but I am running out of options.

image

I’m Morgues, and prior to this clusterfudge I’ve been a Tumblr dork, fandom geek, and an aspiring writer and filmmaker. And this is my long story short: my soon-to-be ex up and split town on me. He was the main source of income at the time. This is a good thing in that he was abusive, sleeping around, and had dove back into drugs and gambling., His splitting town happened after I called BS and got help from domestic violence services and also pointed out that he was not doing jack about the bills we had. The downside of this is that it’s left me with those bills. Plus an eviction notice. Yup, his lack of assistance with the bills went that deep. I’m guessing the money he was making went to cocaine and booze.

I have until Tuesday to try and come up with rent either for where I live (which is $2200 due to him not paying anything for the last THREE MONTHS)  or $500 for a new place I can sublet. Otherwise I’ll be going to a women’s shelter IF they have room for me. I’m currently on a waitlist for that and I am not at the top of the list. I also don’t know what I’m going to do with my cat. I am almost more angry about that than anything – the possibility of losing my cat. He’s my stress pet and he’s old (14 years old now) and he does not deserve to go to an animal shelter because of this mess: I don’t want to lose my kitty.

I am currently unemployed and looking for full time work (I was working online as a transcriptionist but the Internet got shut down at I cannot connect via most of the wifi places in town so my income has been cut off), which is proving a little emotionally draining, but dammit I’m trying. On top of the impending divorce and dealing with the support group meetings for the abuse, I am also bipolar, suffering from PTSD (even more so now from what’s happened) and a handful of other delightful mental and physical health issues. I sucked it up and tried appealing to my family, but I’m still dead to them since I’m not straight. My mother straight up told me the little bit I talked to her on the phone that I deserved the abuse. Yeah, not going to get any help there. Another result of being queer this also means most local church assistance is also closed to me.

I am appealing to you, Tumblr, as my last ditch effort for help. Until I am LITERALLY homeless and on the street I’ve been denied assistance by local government agencies. I am currently in the middle of trying to liquidate what I own to make cash and that is hurting my heart as people are already trying to take advantage of the situation by lowballing me on the value of what I’m selling and this is how I’m trying to make ends meet and survive.

Anything helps at this point. I’m not using GoFundMe since they take a chunk. I’m also not a big believer in something for nothing, so if you want to donate something and leave me a note with it about your fandoms or something, it will take me some time, but I will write you a drabble or make a photo edit or icons or something. Again I have super spotty internet unless I’m at the local library, but I’ll eventually get it to you.

So that’s it, my appeal to you Tumblr. I figured it couldn’t hurt since Tumblr raised enough money to save DashCon and that sad ballpit, and I have seen miracles happen for others as well.. If you can’t help, a reblog and signal boost would be appreciated. Again, I am about to be homeless as of Tuesday, June 16th if I cannot get some kind of assistance.

^SIGNAL BOOST.

tl;dr, no really, read it. C’mon VC (and others!) fandom. If just some of our followers sent her $1 yes I know paypal has a fee but humor me for a second here it would make an enormous difference to her.

She’s not looking for a free ride, she’s essentially opened commissions for the money. If you can’t give, please reblog, maybe one of your followers can.
