Is there any reason to why Claudia cried real tears and not blood tears right before Louis turned Madeleine into a vampire? Isn’t vampires supposed to cry blood tears? I have been wondering…

Ricean vampires do cry blood tears in the books. Other vampires might not. Claudia would have cried blood tears.

In this production still from a cut scene, it looks like Claudia does have blood tears:

I don’t know why they didn’t actually do it throughout the movie. Looks like they at least tried, though :-

Here’s another production still. Maybe the director didn’t like the thickness of them? Or the fact that they would be difficult to add in physically, since you’d have to redo her makeup for each take? In the books, blood tears are basically regular tears tinged with blood, so they would probably look pink, not so thick and red as these are. These look like ketchup.

Wouldn’t Lestat be like, really bright and shiny in the mirror? I know he has to put on makeup to deal with light glare from photos, so I’m just kind of imagining him looking in the mirror and the light bouncing back and forth between him and the mirror so he just becomes this sparkly-ass bloodsucking disco ball of vanity. I highly suspect he has a room full of mirrors just for this occasion. Spends entire nights admiring his own brilliance from a variety of angles. Probably nude.

Some or all of that may in fact be true. Our fandom’s true OTP is Lestat/Mirrors.

As for the #vampire physiology aspect, I don’t think Lestat is THAT shiny. Without spoiling anything for you, I’ll tell you that his skin, at least in mid-canon, is not as marble-white as some other vampire flesh can be. Yeah, if he knows he’s going to be photographed (like for modeling!), he’d probly use a light spray tan to reduce the glare.

Vanity is definitely his fave sin. Gluttony would probably be a close second >;}

nah man your dna contains millions of years of totally random bugs, some of which don’t really change anything, some of which are rly bad and annoying, some of which miraculously make the software work better

I believe it was in “Queen of the Damned” in which Khayman spoke of a power akin to technopathy. He was able to understand the use, composition, and function of any device, down to a molecular level, by simply looking at it.

I’m not sure that that’s the exact word for it, but the Ricean vampires in general have implied that they’re adaptive, inquisitive, they learn things easily and much faster than mortals. I can’t find the quotes to support it but I’m 99% sure that Lestat learned to read/write by watching people do it (his monastery schooling only gave him so much: ”I couldn’t read or write more than a few prayers and my name.” TVL)

Do you have any theories on why, after you turn, your hair becomes long and stays curly and always grows back to that length?

♛It’s a great question, and one that puzzled me for a long time. You have it slightly off, though.

image

My hair didn’t become longer after I was turned. It was wavy, almost curly, and just past shoulder length and it still is, unless I cut it. It grows back to the length it was when I died. I can’t grow a beard or mustache, however, much to my chagrin and everyone else’s relief. I would have really liked to try the kind Salvador Dali sports *laughs* Sometimes I do apply fake ones for my own amusement. Goatee, soul patch, Tony Stark-esque manscaping, it’s a hobby.

Do I have any theories on this? Well, I didn’t know it would grow back so rapidly (and completely) until my mother had cut her hair. As you may know, during the day it had grown back to the length it was when she died. At the time, after the shock wore off, we did puzzle over it, but we had no one else to compare the experience with, so we assumed it was like all of our other inexplicable physical abilities: increased speed, strength, the ability to hear thoughts. Just another piece of the mystery of what we had become.

Knowing what we know now, I would offer that our special hair growth (and the fact that it maintains the texture it had when we were alive) is part of Amel’s irrational fusion with us.

In case you aren’t familiar with dearest Amel: we, as a species, all share a piece of the one great entity that is him, he’s our spiritual parasite. He connects us all together.

When we give the Dark Gift, our fledgling takes an invisible piece of Amel into him/herself, and Amel gets right to work mapping out their body, unconsciously choosing the things that will work for him, discarding what won’t…

it’s a tingling feeling. Our physical appearance is important to him; he wants to preserve the beauty he finds, and part of that is hair length (this applies to all hair, all over the body… you’ll note that Jesse was groomed for it first).

For if we can remain just as we were when we died, we have the best chance of continuing to exist, feed ourselves/him, and let him experience the world vicariously through us.

#and like what so sad about this moment #actually #is that Lestat is learning smtg new here #that laudanum has a real effect on him #but he has not yet realized that Claudia aint playin #she has tactically weakened him #this is not in fact funtimes

If a vampire can walk in the sunlight then do they sleep during the night, stay awake during the day, and do they sleep in a bed?

That’s alot of Ask! It would depend on the type of vampire. I did some sunscreen discussion a little while ago. askavampirologist would be better for this question, too.

image

^So Claudia has a bed, and it is covered with dolls, but why even have a bed if you don’t plan to sleep in it at all? Oh wait bc sexytiemsnot for Claudia tho, she has a bed to hold her doll collection and dead figure drawing models ffs… In the books they sleep in beds, now that there are really good blackout curtains available.

image

^In movie!IWTV, Claudia was able to be awake during the daylight, she just couldn’t let it touch her. I don’t think she (or the other Ricean vampires) would have wanted to try to adopt a day/night sleep schedule like a person… even if they physically could, vampires seem to be nocturnal animals and prefer it that way.

Choice is really irrelevant with Book!VC (Ricean) vampires bc they succumb to the Deathsleep; they are physically unable to stay awake during daylight hours. Even in a place like Alaska in which nighttime extends during the winter months, Ricean vampires are still susceptible to a reasonable deathsleep rhythm.

Vampires in other media, like Only Lovers Left Alive for example, do stay awake during the daylight hours if they feel like it, and they do sleep in beds. Are they trying to imitate mortals? Maybe!
