Hello, I was wondering if you know of any fanart that might have been done on Louis’ brother. I know he wasn’t a major character but I would really love to be able to visualize him. Also, I know there is a fanart somewhere of Armand ranting that Marius is not Lestat’s sire. So would he also rant that Lestat is not Daniel’s sire? Since I know people tend to confuse the movies Queen of the Damned and Interview with a Vampire since they state completely different sires from the books.

Ok well… hmmm…. YOU CHALLENGE MY MEMORY AND COLLECTION and I am in a MOOD TO MEET SUCH. Let’s see what we can do….

1) Paul de Pointe du Lac

The one fanart that is specifically Paul is this one:

image

X by @baladokentang

^I love this fanart, he’s got his brother’s raven hair and green eyes <3, but Paul is described in canon as “He had the smoothest skin and the largest blue eyes. He was robust, not thin as I am now and was then… but his eyes… it was as if when I looked into his eyes I was standing alone on the edge of the world… on a windswept ocean beach. ” (IWTV) Not sure whether it’s canon or fanon but Paul was supposedly blond. He was 15 when he died.

I have a few other things collected in my #Paul de Pointe du Lac tag, like this portrait I think is pretty canon compliant:

2) Sire drama and fanart

  • Also, I know there is a fanart somewhere of Armand ranting that Marius is not Lestat’s sire.

Hmmm that is a very tough one, I know I’ve seen a fanart or two like that over the years, I’ll try and dig around in my personal archives for that. I do think Armand would take more issue at that than the idea that Lestat might have been Daniel’s maker.

I mean, and I shouldn’t go here but I will, bc I think this is one of the reasons I can’t watch movie!QOTD w/o someone with me, cracking jokes at it…

Marius gets unfairly mashed together with Magnus in movie!QOTD, essentially, bc he turns Lestat w/o consent. Therefore, Marius takes on the burden of having raped Lestat into being a vampire and there is no explicit reconciliation or apology for that crime whatsoever, but he and Lestat are kicking it together in Modern Times, with Lestat seemingly bitter at him and Marius seemingly smug back? It’s ooc and uncomfortable. I think Armand would be more annoyed at Marius taking on Magnus’ actions than he would be pissed at Lestat getting to claim Marius as his own sire, since QOTD!Lestat doesn’t seem all that thrilled with that pedigree.

BUT ANYWAY if anyone out there has fanart in which Armand is ranting about Marius not being Lestat’s sire, plz send it to me, or reblog and tag me!

I have one of Lestat and Armand fighting over Marius, and @garama‘s Antonio!Armand w/ QotD!Marius which is not quiiiite what you’re asking for but might like anyway… that I’ll rebagel after this…

  • So would [Armand] also rant that Lestat is not Daniel’s sire? Since I know people tend to confuse the movies Queen of the Damned and Interview with a Vampire since they state completely different sires from the books.

Ppl may blend together certain things, but I think anyone who’s seen the movies AND read the books takes the books as more true to canon, and the movies as adaptations, which is what they are. But if ppl only see movie!QOTD, I can’t really fault them for taking that info as their own canon, if they like it.

In MY opinion, since you’re asking: Armand will rant about it @ Daniel in private, but Armsy doesn’t tend to rant about anything he’s personally invested in when he’s in Lestat’s presence, preferring to keep a calm, collected, and unflappable profile as much as possible. Lestat knows this and loves to pester Armsy at any opportunity. There’s A LOT of joking around in the coven about those movies and how Daniel narrowly escaped having Lestat as his fictional maker…

Lestat: “You’d have liked that, wouldn’t you?” *makes a kissy face @ Dan*

Daniel: “Not saying I’d have liked it exactly, but it might’ve sped things up a little…”

Armand: “Are you saying I took too long, Daniel? I had my reasons…”

Lestat: “Dude I see someone I love, I turn them THAT NIGHT,” *snaps his fingers* “If I can possibly manage it, or the very next night, or at least that weekend, gotta strike when the iron is HOT!”

Armand: “Or else they might come to their senses and run as far away as they can get from you?”

Lestat: “HEY!”

Daniel: “I did run from you, Armand…”

Armand: “HEY!!”

Marius and Louis just sit back and watch all this, wishing that they had popcorn they could eat.

Would it be possible for a vampire to get a tattoo and have the tattoo stay on their skin?

As always, I can only answer re: Ricean vampires, I’m not aware of any other vampires in other media having tatts… maybe in Twilight they can/do?

Definitively, it’s not addressed in VC canon, I don’t remember any of the vampires having tatts (whether they got them before or after they were turned) so it’s open to interpretation, #Your headcanon may vary. Personally, I have a bunch of thoughts on this mixed into my #tattoo tag, so check that out.

My headcanon is that vampires can get a tatt (and it will look permanent) but it will fade during the deathsleep, which is what @frankenland informed us that Anne Rice thinks about it, too:

image

If we accept the author’s words as canon, we can say definitively:

1) Tattoos that the vampire tries to get AFTER they have been turned: Will vanish in 24 hrs.

2)  Tattoos that the vampire has BEFORE they have been turned: Will fade/lighten/change (see comment from @monstersinthecosmos on my post about this, below)

@monstersinthecosmos added:

i remember Anne said on FB once that someone’s tattoos would probably go really light and lacey/elegant looking after they’re turned, but remain in a way that looks ~ethereal~ lolol

^I’d have to find the post but I would imagine that AR means that the tattoo will “go really light and lacey/elegant looking” over time, not at the moment of turning, but it could be interpreted either way.

@thebibliosphere added to one of my posts: “I treat vampires as just very long living humans, which means even tattoos fade over time as the skin cells regenerate.” [X] I’m inclined to agree. I also think a tattoo could be removed from vampire flesh “by scraping/cutting/etc. off the tattooed skin and letting it regenerate to its natural state).” as @skeletalroses put it [X].

What is Louis supposed to look like?

i-see-light-blog:

Hauls out all these fuckin books… anon why u kill me…

“He stared at the vampire’s full black hair, […] the curls that barely touched the edge of the white collar.” -Interview with the Vampire

“Those green eyes gazed at me […] with a mindless innocence,” -Interview with the Vampire

“I fell fatally in love with Louis, a young dark-haired bourgeois planter, graceful of speech and fastidious of manner,” -The Vampire Lestat

“His blindness to the motives or the suffering of others was as much a part of his charm as his soft unkempt black hair or the eternally troubled expression in his green eyes.” -The Vampire Lestat

“Tall, slender figure. Short dark hair. […] Black hair, green eyes, […] a frayed black sweater that hung shapelessly from his shoulders, legs like long black spokes.” -The Vampire Lestat

“his black hair full and disheveled as it had always been in the old days, and his green eyes full of melancholy wonder,” -The Queen of the Damned

“I touched his face again, the cheekbones, the arch beneath the black eyebrow. What a finely made thing he was.” -The Queen of the Damned

“He ran his fingers back through his hair. Such fine black hair. The first thing I’d ever noticed about him–well, after his green eyes, that is–was his black hair. No, all that’s a lie. It was his expression; the passion and the innocence and the delicacy of conscience.” -The Queen of the Damned

“his face sharpening, the whole picture of high cheekbones and dark probing green eyes firing beautifully.” -The Queen of the Damned

“His face, quite thin and finely drawn by nature, an exquisitely delicate face for all its obvious strength,” -The Tale of the Body Thief

“I glared at him, at the sharp graceful angles of his imperturbable face, […] his wide-set eyes, with their fine rich black lashes. How perfect the tender indentation of his upper lip.” -The Tale of the Body Thief

“Louis de Pointe du Lac, […] slender, slightly less tall than Lestat […] black of hair, gaunt and white of skin, with
amazingly long and delicate fingers […]

whose
green eyes are soulful, the very mirror of patient misery, soft-voiced, very human,” -The Vampire Armand

“I followed his slim, delicate figure as it picked its way
through the clutter and nineteenth-century Paris, I knew that this black-clad darkhaired
gentleman, so lean, so finely sculpted, so sensitive in all his lineaments,” -The Vampire Armand

“it seemed to me that he was a vision of male perfection […] his curly black hair […] combed back over his ears and curling above his collar” -Merrick

“he seemed a young man of twenty-four–with sharply defined and beautiful features, and gaunt well-modeled cheeks.” -Merrick

That only took forever… even with all my dog-ears… anyways, Louis is a pale skinny dude with a Beauteous Male Model face, short, curly black hair, and green eyes, as described over and over and over and over again in almost every book. Brad Pitt was way off.

Also I think this accidentally became a testament to how fucking gay everyone is for Louis, it’s really unbelievable. I even tried to cut out most of the superfluous gay bits and still,

“And I realized what a dreadful
change had come over his narrow face” – Tale of the Body Thief

Nicolas de Lenfent and Louis de Pointe du Lac.

Turns out they don’t look alike at all, who’d’ve thunk?

Look at @hedonistbyheart‘s tags LOL  #in other words plz don’t cast the same damn guy  #also 99% of fandom louis looks like nicki guys plz i suffer

THIS. And please guys please just read the descriptions of Louis properly in the books. HE DOES NOT HAVE LONG HAIR. His hair is relatively short, and wavy. Pleeeeease can we have more canon Louis and less Pitt!Louis and his bizarre hair.

I am 100% supportive of #in other words plz don’t cast the same damn guy. That “twin” comment from TVL was more about their personalities than physical resemblance:

I fell fatally in love with Louis, a young dark-haired bourgeois planter, graceful of speech and fastidious of manner, who seemed in his cynicism and self destructiveness the very twin of Nicolas.

Although, I’d say canon Nicki has dark and curly hair… the first time Lestat describes Nicki in TVL:

Only his hair was what it used to be, dark and very curly, and boyish looking for some reason though it was tied back with a fine bit of silk ribbon.

Re: Louis: I gotta say, I do love me some closer-to-canon depictions of Louis! All fanart of Louis is good, but yes, @wicked-felina and I have discussed this privately for longer than I’d want to admit and I am convinced that Louis has short, wavy/curly hair as shown above.

Brad’s Louis will always have a place in my heart, long and Barbie-like, almost chestnut color (I think Brad himself called it “Lion King” hair”)! I don’t remember if Louis actually has long enough hair in canon to tie back in a ribbon, and if he doesn’t, then really, shorter like this fanart here, is more canon-compliant, at least in my reading of canon.

BUT ANYWAY I wouldn’t trample on anyone’s depictions of Louis, #Your Headcanon May Vary, and all that, but it is true that we have more of Brad!Louis than not, so I encourage everyone to try their hand at a Louis with shorter hair (it will also serve the dual purpose of pissing off Lestat, so, y’know, there’s that).

pazithigallifreya:

There’s this… phenomenon… I’ve witnessed in several fandoms, where a particular blog gets really popular within a fandom.

And suddenly that blog will start getting people literally asking them for permission to hold certain opinions. I don’t mean someone just asking “hey can I get your feelings/opinions on this subject” but “is it okay if I think/do xyz?” like some child asking their parent if they can go somewhere.

Worse, is when these blogs start taking these questions seriously and feeding them answers. Like they suddenly start believing that they truly have this authority. I mean it’s bad enough when people do this and the blogger is just like “well I have my own opinion but don’t ask me” but when they start to actually act like they can tell other people what they are “allowed” to do.

This I the creepiest fucking thing on tumblr I swear.

Why would you give some random stranger on the internet that much power over your mind? Why would you be so afraid of forming your own opinions that you have to ask someone else to give you opinions to hold?

And so often they end up with a rabble ready to crucify anyone who doesn’t do as they are told, and that’s when I really run for the hills…

It probably looks a little egotistical to reblog this post, as someone who relates to having the “particular blog gets really popular within a fandom,” but I deeply agree with this post from both sides. It has been suggested to me privately that my opinions hold sway over people and I have a responsibility to answer a certain way so that the other fans aren’t led astray, that they are so gullible that they take my every word as fact. I sincerely hope that this is not the case.

I refuse this responsibility bc that’s not the kind of blog I want to have. I don’t want anyone taking my opinions as an authority, or the Law of the Land or whatever… *~popularity~* shouldn’t give me any more authority than anyone else!

Please don’t feel like you have to literally ask anyone for permission to hold certain opinions. I’m happy to share my ideas, but they are only my ideas. I’m a random stranger on the internet! I love my followers, the interactions we’ve had, the messages you’ve sent me publicly and privately over the past few years have kept my blog alive, and I can’t thank you enough for that ❤

But! If I can just paraphrase from the above, Do not give some random stranger on the internet that much power over your mind! Don’t be so afraid of forming your own opinions that you have to ask someone else to give you opinions to hold!

Please do not become part of some random stranger on the internet’s rabble ready to crucify anyone who doesn’t do as they are told!

They need to hurry with the show! I’ve been waiting forever.

I KNOWWWWW… beLIEVE me, I know that feel.

image

…and yet, I, personally, wouldn’t want them rushing it out just bc they CAN, like with movie!Queen of the Damned. I mean, hey, I don’t know the backstory on that production, so maybe they DID put a lot of thought and effort into that movie… and let’s not forget that ppl DID enjoy that movie and even now they find it nostalgic, ppl liked it as an adaptation or as a standalone (if they hadn’t read the books, they probably weren’t judging it for being non-compliant w/ canon), for whatever reason (Aaliyah! Was actually great, IMO!). So I’m not the arbiter of taste, and neither is any one fan. I’m glad some ppl enjoyed it bc hey, maybe whatever success that movie had is part of why we may get the VCTV series! And whatever failure it had, that can be learned from (like, maybe, don’t rewrite canon to the point of switching around makers for whatever reason, like making Marius Lestat’s maker? BC that just screws up so many connections, among other issues?).

If the VCTV series happens at all, it’s inevitably going to disappoint some fans no matter what it does or doesn’t accomplish, no matter how canon-compliant* it is or isn’t. There is NO PLEASING EVERYONE! Our headcanons DO vary. Everyone projects their own ideals of beauty and everything else onto these stories, the act of reading a story involves adding your own experience, supplying it with your own imagination.

(*Altho, AR has said that she DOES want to make it as canon-compliant as possible, and hopefully that means she won’t try to shoehorn in the later ALIEMS into the story before they contaminate it come in much later in the series.)

I think it’s great when we can agree on some things, like I would say we all agree that Lestat’s red velvet cloak was RED in color, but then we could debate DARK RED or BRIGHT RED until we are blue in the face so like… even little details like that can be a point of disagreement *shrugs*

ALL THAT SAID, it would be WONDERFUL if this adaptation gets like a B+ with the majority of the fandom, that’s how low I’m setting the bar lol.

Good Omens: a gentle reminder

neil-gaiman:

Your headcanon is your headcanon. The characters in your mind are what they are, and nobody is trying to take them away from you. Think of the Good Omens TV series as a stage play: for six full hours, actors are going to be portraying the roles of Crowley and Aziraphale, Shadwell and Madame Tracy, Newt and Anathema, Adam, Pepper, Wensleydale and Brian and the rest. Will they look like the people in your head? The ones you’ve been drawing and writing about and imagining for (in some cases) almost 30 years?

Probably not. Which is fine.

The people in your head and your drawings are still there, and still real and still true. I’ve seen drawings of hundreds of different Aziraphales over the years, all with different faces and body-shapes, different hair and skin, and would never have thought to tell anyone who drew or loved them that that wasn’t what Aziraphale looked like. (And a couple of years after we wrote it, I was amused to realise that the Aziraphale in my head looked nothing like the  Aziraphale in Terry’s head.) I’ve loved every instance of Good Omens Cosplay I’ve seen, and in no case did I ever think anyone was doing it wrong: they were all Aziraphales and Crowleys, and it was always a delight.

Good Omens has been unillustrated for 27 years, which means that each of you gets to make up your own look for the characters, your own backstories, your own ideas about how they will behave.

The TV version is being made with love and with faithfulness to the story. It’s got material and characters in it that Terry and I had discussed over the years, (some of it from what we would have done it there had been a sequel). Writing it has taken up the greater part of my last three years. You might like it – I really hope you will – but you don’t have to. You can start watching it, decide that you prefer the thing in your head, and stop watching it. (I never saw the last Lord of the Rings movie, because I liked the thing in my head too much.)

Remember we are making this with love.

And that your own personal headCrowleys and headAziraphales and headFourHorsemen and headThem and headHastur and headLigur and headSisterMary and all the rest are yours, and safe, and nobody is ever going to take them away from you.

Some thoughts on this under the cut, cut for length.

It is, admittedly, always fun to deride Lestat for this

screwup

decision when Marius (for all his own f*cked-upedness, he does have a little decent advice to give at various points) specifically told him: DO. NOT. TURN CHILDREN. INTO VAMPIRES. EXCEEDINGLY NOT COOL.

In TVL, Lestat says he wanted to do it just because he wanted to see what would happen:

image

^I don’t think this is the reason (or at least not the MAIN reason), I think this is Lestat’s bravado, and knowing that he’s writing the book FOR LOUIS, really, knowing Louis is going to be reading it, and this is the answer he’s putting out there to make himself look that much more callous, bc the real answer is too painful to share.

Someone (she’s not on tumblr, I’d tag her if she was) once suggested that Lestat made Claudia to keep Louis’ conscience clear; after all, Lestat is essentially ‘saving’ her from death. The line in the movie is, “Your conscience is clear.” If Louis had actually killed a child (a Holy Innocent!) that night, it would have been the worst crime he’d committed in vampiring, and Lestat didn’t want Louis to bear that burden of guilt. Louis might have even felt guilty enough to kill himself over it, also something Lestat did not want to happen.

So I think Lestat would prefer that Louis think of this as just another gross, horrible act to add to the list of gross, horrible things Lestat has done, and he’d prefer that we write him off as an antagonist, which is easier than being confronted with what he does and why he does it.

I know it’s a bit of a reach, but I feel like Lestat admitting that he made a child into a vampire, knowing it was a crime against nature, and condemning her to the body she was turned in, was a sacrifice he made to prevent Louis from bearing the guilt of her death, it’s all too painful, and could invite questions about it, and he just can’t let anyone in that close.

I understand that it’s a very problematic book, but this is also why I can’t throw the entirety of TOBT out, because Claudia comes back to haunt Lestat to confront him with the decision of turning her. He reflects on it off and on throughout the book and finally admits that even knowing what he knows now, he would still do it all over again, and that’s taking into account the joy they all experienced as a little family, but also the pain and suffering she felt as she became aware of the trap of her own body.

When vampires suck dick do they have to resist the urge todo drain the blood from the dick ???? (random question . i see over there )

Hey it’s a valid question, I getcha >;} I’ve thought about it, too!

image

[^X a piece of my commissioned art drawn by the awesomeness that is @riwox, and there is a panel in it w/ oral action, but it’s just licking.]

Look at this comic that @remarried did, too, btw, along these lines, which I can’t bear to chop even a piece out of bc it has to be seen in FULL to be enjoyed!

IDK about other vampires but as far as VC goes, vampire dicks don’t get erect (there is alot of debate about this)(and I love writing/reading fanfic and seeing fanart in which their dicks DO work!)(but in canon, from my reading, I would say that they do not) so it’s kind of a moot point. But I do think they would still involve it in intimacy if they wanted to. See this post by @amadeo-child-of-the-renaissance w/ comments from @gairid. #Your headcanon may vary on this.

IN CANON: I don’t think that either vampire/vampire or vampire/mortal blowjobs are addressed in canon. I believe that anything that can be bitten can be an erogenous zone, and would enjoy being bitten anywhere, and they could bite mortal’s boners. Now I have this image of a dick just deflating on being drained of blood lol…

How is there very much space in the mouth with those fangs there, tho? Especially if you buy that they may have other sharpened teeth than just the canines. Can they even take a dick in their mouths w/o cutting it? It’s fun to read in fanfic, but would there really be enough space for it? I’m not sure!

I would think that vampires would be limited in their blowjob abilities, unless the vampire’s mouth is big and/or the dick in question is relatively smaller XD

TL;DR: I do think vampires have to resist the urge to suck all the blood out of a dick during a blowjob, if they want that dick to keep working.

@thebibliosphere, help me out?
